Brutish
General | Posted 16 years agoWhile investigating a journal, "My Brute is Tougher the Your Brute", I somehow found myself with a Brute of my own...
http://d.o.p.r.mybrute.com
I thought it was a single-play Flash game, good for a couple minutes of entertainment, but I guess it's more of a fighting sim like Poke/Digimon, which means it's more time-intensive.
I hadn't really signed up for that sort of thing, but I'll give it a trial run.
So come one, come all! Challenge my little D.O.P.R Brute! I'll build a Conan out of him yet!

Changed my Mind and Opened up the Doors
General | Posted 16 years ago"When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors."
I'm a natural hermit, but lately I've been regretting that habit.
It's not as easy a thing for me anymore to simply turn on Meebo (or AIM or Yahoo or whatnot) and randomly IM someone. For one, there aren't a great many people who I know that would be willing to answer, and there have never been a great many people on my lists to begin with.
I'll be the first to say that I don't exactly have a very magnetic personality, and am absolutely horrid at keeping in contact with friends. Even the people to whom I feel the most attached, and have the most affection for hardly ever hear from me (gaps in communication can go for as long as months).
But I am a social creature, and recent times have made me appreciate and yearn for the sort of regular interaction and companionship that I've been so standoffish towards for so long.
So I'm going to be making efforts to be more sociable; not only by signing into my messengers more often, but also by posting more journals.
These have been hard times for me recently, with harder ones likely one the way. Facing them alone is a prospect I don't look forward to, and loneliness on the top[ of that makes for a rather bleak existence.
So, look out for me - I might just be uploading more journals then pictures in the days ahead.

Do You Remember the 90's?
General | Posted 16 years agoI'm still shocked that the 90's are considered "retro" - but then, I guess that's our fate as we all age.
Still, here are some fun reminders of that glorious decade (stolen from Gravis):
You remember watching:
[ ] Kenan and Kel; (I remember it, but I never watched it)
[x] Doug;
[x] Ren & Stimpy;
[x] Pinky & the Brain;
[x] AAAAAAAH Real Monsters!;
[x] Rocko's Modern Life; (Damn I love that show)
[x] Animaniacs;
[x] Hey Arnold!;
[ ] Out of the Box;
[ ] Bear in the Big Blue House.
[x] You’ve ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!";
[ ] You just can’t resist finishing this: "In west Philadelphia born and raised...". (I can resist it...)
You remember:
[x] Step by Step;
[x] Family Matters;
[x] Dinosaurs;
[x] Boy Meets World;
[x] Full House.
[x] You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons; (we really need those times again)
[x] You remember reading Goosebumps.
When everything was settled by:
[x] "Rock/paper/scissors";
[x] "Bubble gum, bubble gum in a dish";
[ ] "Miss Mary Mack". (I didn't do Mary Mack, but I remember it)
[x] When kickball was something you did everyday; (relegalize kickball!)
[x] You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record your FAVORITE song of ALL time on a tape.
[x] You remember Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis;
[x] You remember The Original Game Boy;
[x] You always wanted to send in a tape to America’s Funniest Home Videos... but never taped anything funny; (we couldn't afford a camcorder)
You remember watching:
[x] The Magic School Bus;
[x] Wishbone;
[x] Reading Rainbow;
[ ] Ghostwriter.
[x] You remember when Yo-Yo's were cool;
[x] You remember those "Where’s Waldo" books; (I still have two)
[x] You remember eating Warheads and Splashers Gushers;
You remember watching:
[x] Batman the Animated Series
[x] Aladdin;
[x] Ninja Turtles; (I was obsessed with the Ninja Turtles as a kid, I had all the toys)
[x] GhostBusters. (anyone alive in the 80's and 90's knows the Gostbusters. They were gods...)
[x] You remember Ring Pops!!!;
[x] You remember when everything was "da BOMB!";
[x] You remember boom boxes vs. CD players;
[x] Making those little paper fortune cookie things, and then predicting your life with them;
[x] You played and/or collected Pogs; (I still have all my Pogs and Slammers)
[ ] You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere you went.
You watched the original cartoons of:
[x] Rugrats;
[ ] Wild Thornberrys
[ ] Power Rangers (I loathed the Power Rangers)
[ ] All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand. (No but I remember all this stuff).
You collected:
[ ] Beanie Babies;
[ ] Pokemon cards;
[ ] Carebears;
[x] Silver dollars. (I have a bunch of them)
You remember when:
[x] Everyone watched the WB
[ ] Everybody knew all the Pokemon by heart;
[ ] Digimon was still on;
[x] If you even know what an original Walkman is; (still have one)
[x] You know the Macarena by heart;
[x] "Talk to the hand";
[ ] You went to McDonald’s to play in the playplace and it was still sanitary; (my McDs never had one)
[x] Before the MySpace frenzy;
[x] AOL & text messaging;
[x] Before Sidekicks & iPods;
[x] Before PlayStation or X-Box;
[x] Back before X-Box period;
[x] Before SpongeBob; (I hate that show)
[x] When light up sneakers were cool;
[x] When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs;
[x] When gas was $0.95 a gallon;
[x] When we recorded stuff on VCR;
[x] You had slap bracelets;
[x] You actually played outside until it was dark; (I had a treehouse, which made it more fun.)
[x] Way back before we realized all this would eventually disappear;
[x] Post this if you smiled at least more than 5 times;
[x] And if you remember at least half the stuff on here.

The Best of YouTube
General | Posted 16 years agoYouTube has become a huge phenomenon, a genuine kaleidoscope of pop culture and society.
It's also fun.
I keep a notepad file of fun and noteworthy links, and it's loaded with fun youtubes.
So I thought it would be fun to put together a rough kind of "Best of" for youtube.
Honestly, this is just an excuse to share links, but it should be fun nonetheless, right?

Childhood Sketches?
General | Posted 16 years agoI just dug up a whole stack of really old pics, many of them going back to my elementary school days.
Rather then being ashamed of my older work, I generally look at it with nostalgia and often just a bit of envy. I say envy because I apparently was a lot more prolific, and a lot more creative.
So would any of you guys be interesting in seeing any of my old pics? Old Dinos, Chicken Parkers, Terminator Endoskeletons, strange monsters, etc.
I'd be uploading them all to scraps so as not to confuse my main gallery, but nevertheless, I want to make sure a sudden glut of older pics would be welcome before I hoist them upon you.

Save the Kitties
General | Posted 17 years agoI just got accosted in the hall by my eldest (and largest) cat, Gil-galad. He apparently is unsatisfied with the level of food in his bowl and wished to make me...painfully...aware of his needs.
As I was heading to the bathroom for bandaids and gauze, I bumped into our youngest cat, Isildur. He was prostrate on his stomach, suffering and anguish looming in his large, green eyes begging for sustenance.
Later, as I was drifting back into consciousness after emo-cutting myself, I caught a glimpse of a black, shadowy figure hovering over me with white claws glittering against sable fur; and obtained a fleeting glance of our female cat, Khan, looking over me with hunger in her eyes.
So if anyone is interested in a quick $20 commission, I would be eager to provide it. My cats are out of food and I could really use the money to get them a big 10lb bag of chow.
I'm up for just about anything, within reason.
Please, think of the kitties...

GOP Leader?
General | Posted 17 years agoI generally keep my personal political opinions off the internet, and I don't want to start a "Us vs. You" fight here in my journal, but after reading in a Turner New Broadcast that Rush Limbaugh is being considered the de facto leader of the GOP in the absence of a clearer leader, I have to ask -
Is the GOP really in that desperate a state that it's down to someone like Mr. Limbaugh to take the front seat for them?

Mystery Block
General | Posted 17 years agoI recently realized that someone I have been watching for a while has put me on their block list.
This came as a great surprise since it's not someone that I think I've ever spoken too.
While my curiosity makes me want to contact this person and ask them why, I think the better thing to do is just move on (I can still view and fave their work, so not much is lost), but still, it's curiously mysterious.
Have many of you acquired unexplained "Mystery Blocks"? Or am I special?

Death and Eating
General | Posted 17 years ago"I enjoy eating, and I enjoy the hunt, but I don't enjoy the death - not for it's own sake.
The feel and texture of blood, the toughness of muscle tearing under my gums, the sensation of the passage of life from one body into mine - it's thrilling, invigorating, intoxicating, and something which I respect.
I don't want death. I don't want superiority over my prey.
Flesh feeds me, the hunt teaches me, the chase strengthens me, but the sacrifice enlightens me.
I owe what I am to my prey - and I honor them.
I keep their herds healthy, and they keep me and my future young alive.
And so long as we respect the sacrifice, then we can keep the balance.
The balance between predator and prey is an honorable thing. Try to keep it that way."

Overdue Journal
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's been quite a while since my last journal and although a lot has happened in that time, the only items which would interest the majority of FA readers is that there are several pictures incoming.
Chief among the incoming uploads is another try at doing a pic of Falco and Fox, of Starfox fame. I love Falco, but he's hard to draw.
Besides, I don't dare compete with the likes of
MissEbony and
rockgaara, both of whom draw him most beautifully.
Also upcoming are some dragon-related schetches and perhaps a few collaborations between myself and another very-well-established scalie artist.
In other, more personal news, I was released from my temp position, so I am once again unemployed. With my wife also out of work, that means no income untill we can get hired again.
The last three-four months have found us struggling at the last minute to make rent, and I've lost count of the people who deserve our thanks and repayment for support.
The constant pressure has also dulled the sharpness of fear and worry that would otherwise have me tearing my hair out at such repeated misfortunes.
We've made it through three rents that we never thought we would be able to pay, and each time we managed to squeeze through thanks partly to luck and mostly to the generosity of others (Thank You), and my ability to be as concerned as I was the first time has all but vanished.
We'll manage this crisis as we have others before. After all, it's these periods of hardship that make life interesting (and ultimately, they are, like life itself, fleeting).
---
tldr: Falco and Fox pic on the way. Sincere thanks to everyone who has supported me and
Witchiebunny during our hard times.

Flattered, or Scared?
General | Posted 17 years agoI have recently been informed that people have been "fapping" to me...
A picture I commissioned from
bonk appeared on e621, and apparently it's approved of there.
Now I'm certainly not above enjoying anything drawn by Bonk myself, but the idea that people are looking directly at me while stroking their lizards kind of threw me off for a sec.
Considering I've already drawn myself in several lascivious situations, it shouldn't take me so much by surprise.
Still, work of mine has popped up on Fchan, Rule34, and now an image of me is being creamed-over on e621. It just seems...odd.

I've been practicing colouring a few pics in Photoshop, so keep an eye on my scraps folder for them.

Year of Ash
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's been a belief of mine that the good things in the world and the bad things kind of even themselves out. That philosophy is certainly not new, and people with that bend of mind have been arguing about the truth of it since time out of mind.
When I was a child in Elementary School (during which I was plagued by bullies and heartbreak) I came up with the phrase: "For every good thing that happens, something equally bad, or worse, happens."
When I entered into High School, I discovered Nietzsche and his writings. While I don't subscribe to all his opium-induced views, he nonetheless makes many points (some of them unpleasant) that I feel are accurate, or at least mostly valid.
To this day, while I don't believe in Karma, I do feel that "things must be paid for" in one way or another. And that for every year of roses, their will be a year of ashes.
This apparently is becoming a year of ashes.
I'm not normally comfortable sharing my misfortunes with others, but those of you who also watch my wife,
Witchiebunny, might know of some of the problems we've been facing recently.
She lost her job, then I lost mine. She managed to get rehired nearly right away while I had problems doing so.
Eventually we were both working, but my job is not reliable and she lost hers again. The economy clearly is mostly, or at least partly to blame for this.
For the last three months we've been struggling to keep rent paid, and though each month was a close call, we managed. There have even been some good times, and the support of friends and family has been a Godsend to us, and we're thankful.
Today, a very good friend of ours "gifted" The Bun with a new computer (under the agreement that we would reimburse him once our situation improved). But going out to the parking lot this evening I discovered that the car was missing.
I've already reported the loss to the Tucson Police, and I'm currently waiting for an officer to arrive, but it seems as though our car has been stolen.
This is a blow which could very well be fatal to our current cause. There's no bus service to my workplace (which is almost 20miles away), and I doubt my parents will be able to let me use their car or truck (my dad needs it to get to his work, and my mother often needs to go into her work as well).
So once again, it's looking likely that I'm going to be losing this job, losing the apartment, and moving in with my parents.
I'm thankful that I have parents in the area who are available, and willing in this time of need, but it's not a comfortable or long-term option since the only space they have is a child's bedroom which they already use for storage.
These are pretty evil days, but it's at times like these that you either have to rise to the occasion or be destroyed. And as I mentioned in one of my earlier submissions, I want to be the sort of person who rises to the occasion.
A star that shines brighter as the darkness grows.

tl:dr version - Our car got stolen.

Additions to RapRex
General | Posted 17 years agoI made a pact with myself early on in the development of RapRex, when I first began taking it seriously as a comic and not just an exercise in character design - I would never go back and redo old pages, no matter how dated or ugly they may look, I'd leave them as they originally were intended. Now that the comic is passed the four-year mark, some of the older chapters aren't looking as spectacular as I first thought; yet I'm holding to m pact.
The only exceptions being two pages which fell victim to the destructive curiosity of one of my cats, and needed reconstruction.
However, I've decided that for the sake of continuity and story-telling, I'm going to insert a few extra pages here and there where I think the action or situation needs more explaining.
This of course poses the problem of trying to match my older style.
I had no idea how difficult that would be!
Nevertheless, I've already integrated two new pages into an older chapter to help with the pacing. I've tried to match styles, but only time will see how seamless (or not) I manged the transition.
In other news, I've been working on wholly new pages as well as some unrelated sketches, so hopefully I'll have new stuff to upload before the earth gets much older.

Like Poetry?
General | Posted 17 years agoI just rediscovered a bunch of my old poems.
Formerly, I use to really enjoy writing poetry (after a fashion) but I generally disliked the majority of what I wrote, so the fact that I saved a bunch of these shows that at the time, I felt they were worthwhile.
Now, would you guys be interested if I posted a few of them? Most are animal-related, though not really "Furry", and some have a slightly religious tone, though nothing overly preachy.
Let me know if you guys are interested and I'll put up a few.

Herpy Hacked
General | Posted 17 years agoApparently, the "Herpy Reference Archive" has been hacked.
Unsettling emails from the admins, as well as the classic (and stereotyped) "YIFF IN HELL FURFAGS" repeat are being sent out, and all the art has been replaced by carnage photos.
If anyone knows the admins there personally, they should really know. I'll be sending him a note shortly.
Sucks that there are still people who get off on this kind of mischief, but what's done is done.

Maynard is the Whore for the Evening
General | Posted 17 years agoNah, I like the guy (and "Perfect Circle").
There's a clip I've had for a long while now that I'd love to find all of. It's Maynard being called up on stage to help an unknown band do a cover of "Kashmir" (Led Zeppelin).
The clip I have is just under 3min long, and consists mostly of the unknown frontman calling Maynard a "pussy", and daring him to come on stage, which he finally does, and gives us this little jot:
"Hi, I'm Maynard...I'll be your whore for the evening."
After that, they go into about a minutes worth of very stirring rockage, but then the track cuts out.
If anyone has the whole version of this track, or knows where I could get it, please let me know!
I'm a big Zeppelin fan, as well as a fan of just about any good hard rock (which includes some "Perfect Circle" and even a few tracks by "Tool"). I've had this partial track for a long time, and dammit, I want to hear the whole thing!
Also, if you guys know any other bizarre, or unusual cover songs, let me know! I'll try and respond in kind.

Ooops
General | Posted 17 years agoKind of a RapRex update, though unfortunately this one is being brought to you by the letter "S" as is "Stupid Artist".
Considering how many pages it's up to, it's terribly inconvenient to carry the whole comic around with me. So I usually only keep the last couple of pages in my notebook at any one time. Later, when I've got maybe five sketched pages done, I'll transfer them to the larger portfolio.
It's also admittedly not easy to keep track of six characters, especially when I generally only focus on two or three at a time, and that focus can last for anywhere from three to eight pages at a shot.
Keeping track of who is with whom, what were they doing when I last left them and so forth is something I'm trying to keep close track of (hopefully before the comic is released I'll have a couple extra sets of eyes to look it over just to make sure the continuity is OK).
Well, it looks like due to a continuity error, I may have to severely edit five pages, and one might have to be scrapped all together.
At some point, I had drawn up a scene involving four characters that lasted four pages. Those four pages were the last in that notebook. At some point later, when I had gotten a new notebook, I tried to continue the scene from where I had left off.
I didn't have the other pages available, and my memory just wasn't good enough.
One of the characters disappeared (she went on into another scene shown afterwords), one changed position dramatically, and the other was no longer directly involved until several pages later.
I didn't find out about the full extent of this blunder until today. I've started editing a few of the pages to fit them into the rest of the comic, and I'll have to add a page to show the one character changing position, but unfortunately, one very important page is already completed and can neither be altered, or reinserted into the comic.
I'm not sure what to do with it now. It was inked ahead of the other pages because it was intended to be a "special" page.
All four characters, in position, as skeletons (I love drawing skeletons).
Since it's not looking like it will be going in the comic, and it's too good a page to simply discard, I'm considering options on what to do with it.
I may post it here as yet another freebie, or possibly offer it as a print.
In any case, the comic itself is still going and I'm mentioning this as a kind of update on my progress on the comic. ...and to help salve my embarrassment after making such a mistake.

Munesol was over this evening, and after he treated us to lunch, we treated him to a couple episodes of the Jeremy Brett versions of Sherlock Holmes. This is what resulted:

Therefor, go to Mune's page. Watch him. Fave his gallery. As you can see, he deserves it.
Oh, and thanks a bunch Mune!

The Tucson Mob
General | Posted 17 years agoWhat is The Tucson Mob you ask? Well even if you didn't ask, I'm going to tell you anyway...
The Tucson Mob is the sort of thing you don't ask about. And even if you didn't ask, it's best you not think about not thinking about asking about it, and just not ask.
It's just that intense...
For the latest rooster of this elusive, (and some say degenerate, debauched, perilous, venturesome, chimerical and whimsical) group - check out the file here:
