Low Spirits
General | Posted 17 years agoAs the title suggests, the job hunting hasn't been going well for me, and my moral is pretty low.
So if any of you are interested, how about you post a link here to a funny/amusing/awesome video or pic. If I like it, I'll try and find an equally funny/amusing/awesome video or pic to respond to it with.
All that I ask is that there not be anything obscenely gross (like 2G1C or goatse), or too terribly inane, like Jackass, 4chan (though there is a lot of funny stuff on 4chan) or SA and POE.

Laid Off
General | Posted 17 years agoI got fired today, so that means that The Bun and I are both unemployed.
We just paid rent, so we're OK for October, but the outlook for us is pretty grim unless we can both get employed very quickly.
Chances are however, that we will lose the apartment.
Our internet is paid, but the electric hasn't been. Depending on how much comes in my last check, and The Bun's last check, we might have to sacrifice it for an extra month of rent. We'd be limited to candlelight, but we'd still have a roof.
As I said, things right now are pretty grim, but we're going to try our best.
Amongst all the other problems we've had lately, this was the lest expected and likely the most devastating.
I'm not going to outright ask for help, but we need it. I try to keep my personal problems out of the fandom as much as possible, but this is something that I can't ignore.
This also means that I'll be doing a lot of job hunting. I'm not sure if that will mean more, or less art (likely less).
Anyway, that's currents events for us right now.

FREAKING.
MOLEY!
This is what the ever-elusive-"they" refer to as - "THE GOOD SHIT".
I seriously have not been this pumped up playing a game since the first time I played Half-Life 2... It's an amazing triumph of FPS action.
A lot of the terminology and ground-level procedure gave me flashbacks.
I can well understand why it was 'Game of the Year'.
It really is THE GOOD SHIT.
D.O.P.R
P.S. The game was a bit uneven in it's story telling. It felt like there were gaps in between missions, as if some missions were missing. This of course, also made the game feel very short - I ran through the whole thing in a single sitting.
The variety of weapons was great, but there really wasn't any need to switch. Once I got my hands on the SOPMOP and the Dragonov, I never switched. And the few times I started with something else (usually the MP5), I was quick to cast it away for an M4 or M16 which happened to be laying in a pile of weapons right near my start. Still, it gives the game a lot of playability - since now I want to go through using only AKs... :-D

I've Tried to Do Those Things The Best I Can
General | Posted 17 years agoI apologize for the lack of uploads lately - but be assured that there are quite few new pics in the works.
The lack of gallery activity is mainly due to my increased dedication to RapRex, which I have been working on nearly every day now.
But there have been frequent deviations from that and I have actually managed to fill half of a standard notebook with sketches, many of which will be finding their way here for your viewing pleasure (I hope).

Creating a Monster
General | Posted 17 years agoI picked up a copy of "Spore: Creature Creator" mostly to explore for myself what I've been hearing so much about.
The adventure I had getting it will be a journal in it's own right; but for now, I'll stick with the game.
So far I've built two totally unoriginal characters - a 'raptor and a Dragon (as close as I could).
Truth told, they came out looking a lot more like their intendeds then I originally thought that they would. The interface was surprisingly intuitive (I picked up on the various points and pulls after a single limb placement) and I was impressed with just how much I could do.
I'll be playing around with it some more, and will start letting myself go and seeing what abominations I can make later.
I'm not sure how the community connects, but the screename I'm using in the creator is "DOPR5".

in situ
General | Posted 17 years agoI've been on something of an emotional rollercoaster lately, and while I by no means have it bad-off, they could (as the saying goes) always be better.
This journal is a kind of a in situ look into my current mood and thoughts (basically, a rambling rant), and should be taken as such with a few grains of salt.
I would like to proudly say that RapRex is proceeding along at a good pace. Already I've added to Chapter 4 about 12 fully-sketched pages in the last two weeks (which is a quick pace for me). Though after charting it all out, I'm not even half of the way through it yet.
I do feel like I owe all of you who have been so patiently waiting for the completion of this project an apology. Since it's unexpected inception nearly five years ago, I've been teasing you all with previews, teasers, and for a select few, a full view of the comic as far as it has progressed.
Considering the excruciatingly slow pace I am taking, I can't help but feel that I am being unfair to you all.
The whole project ran away from me very early, and I think in a strange way, I still haven't managed to catch back up with it.
When I first started more-or-less seriously drawing, I could pencil and colour a pic in an instant. Even small three-page comics were conceived, penciled, inked via Pilot pen and coloured with coloured pencil withing a half hour.
I couldn't possibly have done the sort of things in 1995 or 2000 that I can do now. I simply wasn't equipped.
Contrariwise, I'm no longer equipped to create in a single brushstroke the multitude of smaller, quick-wrought sketches and comics that I used to be able to do.
As I've progressed as a sketcher/doodler/perhaps even artist, I've become a bit more refined (if I may apply the term) and perhaps a bit more sophisticated in what I do and how I do it. Naturally I'm going to want to deal in terms of that sophistication and expound more upon it - that's where growth comes from.
Naturally, what satisfies me as a sketcher/doodler/artist now is much more complex then what I could manage then.
I'm no longer satisfied with the sort of pics I could do in grade school, or high school, and as such, I'm more interested in another, more "sophisticated" (and much more time intensive) level of personal satisfaction.
And now that RapRex is poised to possibly be of Magnum Opus stature for me, I'm putting all of that into its layout.
That means each page is 'crafted' rather then simply thrown down on paper. And to keep the integrity and intensity of the comic up, I try to only work on it when I'm in the mood to. If I force myself into adding to it without any inspiration, it will show in the result.
So all this adds up to a long wait yet for something that so many have already been waiting so long for.
So I apologize. Stick with me, and I hope that I can create a product that will be worth all the waiting.

What I Want
General | Posted 17 years agoA list I started, half as a joke, but half seriously.
- a grin like an idiot, and a smile like a child born yesterday
- a full paycheck and a pocket full of change, ‘cus we could all use a little change now and again
- my baby and my old blue jeans
- an iPod and a track and a street to keep my feet on
- a little groove (it’s in the heart)
- be on a hill (though not necessarily a fool)
- be touched by the blue above and the green below
- never to be given up on, or let down (now I’ve done it)
- to not always do right, but do just what I can
- shake that bush again
- to live long and prosper, and have the force be with me
- get one extra frag before I go
- a pepperoni pizza and a case of Dew
- see the sun rise
- have my fire lit
- something to say, and something worth saying
- be back in the ring for another swing
- a slow ride through a life in the fast lane
- to know when to turn and run, and when to stand and fight
- ein schwule hunde (obwohl ein Weibchen auch wundervoll ist)
- a reason to live, but something worth dying for
- for heaven to be not too far away
- be experienced
- to try sometime and get what I need
- Breath Deep, and Seek Peace
- crack through the shell
- be a dolphinback
- ramble on

Maw Shot
General | Posted 17 years agoI'm probably going to be doing several journals in the next few hours/days.
I've been keeping myself pretty busy, and between my various small projects, large projects, and general thought, have quite a bit I'd like to journal about
This journal though, is for practical reasons. I've been doing a lot of work on RapRex, and have come to a part were I'd like to do some outside-looking-in maw shots.
Since that isn't normally my cup-of-tea, I don't have any pics in my collection to help as reference.
Do any of you know of some good Dragonish/Dino-ish, maw shots?

Rockin TF2
General | Posted 17 years agoFor anyone who's a fan of Vavle's "Team Fortress 2", or likes Electronica, or a mix of both - check out Koolfox's album "Rocking Fortress".
It's a great listen, and fun as well.
I'm only just getting into the Electronica/Techo/etc scene, but I'm already a big fan of TF2, and I've been listening to it through and through since getting it.
Definitly a big reccomendation from me!

By the time most of you read this it probably won't be, but the music video for Safety Dance by Men Without Hats was the Link of the Day.
Possibly one of the greatest music videos of all time.
Thank you Dragoneer... I feel enriched.

Gargoyles
General | Posted 17 years agoOne of the great things about being in a community like FA is that there are artists/people who span all genres and tastes, so that if anyone is curious about a certain thing, or is searching for something, there are hundreds (thousands rather) of eyes out there the help look.
Does anyone out there know of any artists out there who do good "Gargoyles" (cartoon) art and would be up for a commision?
Though I watched and liked the show, I was never a huge fan. But I had an idea of something I'd like commissioned, but don't really know any artists for whom "Gargoyles" is a primary subject.
Also, if any of my watcher are Gargoyle-familiar artists and would be willing to hear my idea, let me know.
I feel a bit awkward asking you guys to, basicly, do my work for me, but as I said, FA is a huge database and by asking here, I (or anyone else who asks) has indirect access to a huge resource of knowlegable furs.
Bless you, Furries! Bless you all!

General | Posted 17 years agoApparently I've had dolphins on the brain of late.
Doodling at work - on the papercloth at Macaroni Grill (restaurant) - it seems that just about everywhere I've had the chance I've been sketching the sensuous cetaceans.
So, since I had them 'on tap' (so to speak) I decided to sit down and make a serious attempt at a picture. Or two. Or four.
I love dolphins and orcas more then my gallery at the moment shows. So the upcoming flood will likely remedy that somewhat.
I fell into some sort of...madness (all Sparta jokes aside) and ended up venting a piece of my long-absent cetacean obsession in a slew of no less then six pictures (seven actually, since one is a two parter).
None are yet inked, but I wanted to give all my watchers fair warning that the delphines are on their way.
Mmmm....prehensile...

You Call THAT Music?
General | Posted 17 years agoI've been offline for a while since my best friend of 13 years is visiting, so I apologize for that.
In other news, I've been broadening my musical horizons and, also having a curious nature, am wondering what bands and styles my watchers prefer.
So, what bands/styles do you guys like?
I'm pretty firmly rooted in Rock, Classic Rock, and Classical (especially movie soundtracks), but lately I've been listening to a bit more electronic and heavier alternative (such as Killswitch Engaged). And while my dislike of "Nashville" Country is still strong, I don't mind Bluegrass or certain accoustic country songs - but it's hit-or-miss.
Just to name some favorites off the top of my head, some of my favorite albums are:
The Complete Lord of the Rings Soundtrack by Howard Shore
"Box of Pearls" a compilation of music by Janis Joplin
"Are You Experianced?" by The Jimi Hendrix Experiance
"Disreali Gears" by CREAM
"OK Computer" by Radiohead
The "Jurassic Park" soundtrack by John Williams
Led Zeppelin (paticularly albums 1-4)
There are many, many more and I'll likely kick myself later when I remember ones that I should have added, but that's a start.
Music is such a powerful thing and everyone takes differant bits from differant songs/styles and as some famous dead guy once said - "Music is a bridge" that can connect people.
So go ahead - what are your favorite bands and albums?
By sharing, we can connect with other people with the same tastes, or open ourselves and others to new styles.

The Bunnie's Sence
General | Posted 17 years agoMy mate,
witchiebunny was just on the 2 Sense audio blog!
Check it out at http://www.ranting-gryphon.com/2sense.htm to hear Gryphon wisdom (with some additions by The Bun).
On a further note - a recoloured picture of mine was featured on the LiveJournal community "WTF FA" which highlights "the horrors of Fur Affinity".
The picture in question is featured here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1321111/ it was coloured by
bootyhunter01 who enjoys my MayBell character.
Congratulations to The Witchiebunny for her "Furry Fifteen" interview on "2 Sense"
Many thanks to
bootyhunter01 for the spontaneous colouring of my picture.
For myself making it onto WTF FA - I can only say that, if I'm making onto a site like that, then I must be doing well. Well enough to be noticed at the very least.

New Scanner Question
General | Posted 17 years agoI've started using 9x12 paper more and more lately, which is paticularly useful for the comic, but unfortunatly, won't fit in my 8x11 scanner.
Since it looks like I'll need to go get myself a new, larger, scanner does anyone out there have any advice as to what I should look for, or should avoid?

That's incredibly flattering.
While I love drawing and showing off what I draw, I generally consider my own pieces to still sit firmly in the "Special Olympics" category - especially considering some of the other high talent that frequents this site.
I hold no illusions contrary to the fact that the majority of those views and watches likely came about because I provide you all with a relatively steady stream of erotica.
But even so, that in no way belittles my feelings of gratitude and appreciation for each and everyone of you.
And so, keeping with what seems to be local custom, the first person to send me a screenshot of themselves being the 10,000 pageview, will get a sketch.
I regret that I don't feel I could offer anything greater then that, but I will open the floor for whatever subject (within reason) the fortunate person may want.
Once again, thank you all for taking an interest. All the comments, watches, and favorites have done more to inspire me and push me to create then many a professional art class has done.
All my gratitude.

It's Enough to Make You Beleive...
General | Posted 17 years ago...in Miracles.
It's been a roller-coaster of emotions regarding my Aunt's ill-health, and we're at another high-point after hearing that she may be out of the hospital in the next few days.
Though she will be confined to a convelecent home for a few months, her doctors are forcasting her recovery.
Naturally, after the last few months, I'm going to withold the majority of my enthusism untill we know for certain that she is out of the woods (if she will ever be again) but I'm nevertheless, breathing a HUGE sigh of releif.
The call came in Saturday, and when I picked up the phone and heard my father's voice say "It's about your Aunt Shari..." I felt certain that she had been called to her reward.
His next words were: "...It's enough to make you beleive in miracles..."
It is indeed.

Good Find
General | Posted 17 years agoThe Tucson Street Fair was several weeks ago, and while I was there, I ran across a vendor selling film cells.
He claimed that he had been an editor for Disney up untill the year before and had access to discarded cells which he mounted and sold. By the time we saw him, he was doen to the last of his stock and was markinng them waaaay down so as to clear them out.
I'm not sure of his story. Several years before, there had been a dealer who was selling what he claimed to be authentic Egyptian relics taken from tombs and mummy wrappings.
I'm not sure how researched the vendors are as far as what they sell, but I'm wary of anything that looks suspicious.
Even so, there were two sets of mounted film cells this person offered that I found hard to resist, especially at the price he was asking.
For twenty dollars (ten apeice) I got myself a collection of fim cells from "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".
The POTC set includes two frames of the title screen (amusinly, they were mounted upside down), three shots of Barbosa and Will Turner, six frames of Cutler Becket and Davy Jones, and three very nice shots of Captain Jack himself, blowing the smoke from his pistol barrel (and looking terribly sexy doing so).
It's set between pannes of beveled glass around an image of Captain Jack from the cartoon/comic book.
The LOTRs set has two frames of Legolas (Orlando Bloom) in Rivendell, two frames of Gandalf the Grey (and the top of Bilbo's head) blowing smoke rings, three frames of Frodo (and the back of Aragorn's head), and three frames of Aragorn (and the back of Boromir's head) during Boromir's death scene.
It's set in a smaller bevled glass frame with a photograph of Orlando Bloom that the seller assured me he had taken himself during the premier of "Return of the King".
All in all, I still doubt he was wholly truthful; but for the price, I got two sets of fairly nice examples of my rampant fanboi-ism.
I may post a photo of them if people are interested.

Possible Bad News
General | Posted 17 years agoIt seems as though my aunt is not yet 'out of the woods'.
As it now stands, she's not to be in this world much longer, and the doctors have already given "the long talk" to her children.
When/if the call comes, my mate and I will be flying out with my parents for the laying down.
This of course means that there will be a few days will we'll be out of contact.
Can't control how things go, but we can only see how it plays out.

General | Posted 17 years agoOk, that's the end of my art dump.
Sorry for flooding your Submissions pages.
There are a few more I could do, but I think I'll keep them back for the present. Besides, some of them are kind of special and I'd like to keep them that way.
I hope you all find something worthwhile in my flood!

Incoming Picture Flood
General | Posted 17 years agoI have a set of twelve (12) realated pictures that I'm going to be uploading later tonight and perhaps tomorrow.
They're older pictures that I did for one of the most important groups of people that I have met in this fandom, and one in paticular who I still look upon as a brother, even if our paths have seperated somewhat since.
The majority of them will go into Scraps, though a few of the nicest ones might make it to the general gallery.
So be prepared for artage coming up!
