Tall Men and Zone Troopers
General | Posted 18 years agoWent to see 'Phantasm' in the theatre a few days ago.
The local 'arty' theatre decided to play the old 1979 classic horror flick, and I just couldn't resist. Especially when I found out that the Tall Man himself (Angus Scrimm) would be showing up after the film in person for a Q&A and autographs/photos.
It was a great way for my father and I to spend an evening. Mr. Scrimm was a pretty cool old guy (he must be in his 70s at the very least) and gave each of us an autograph and a photo.
The next day, The Bun and I went to Best Buy and bought two things - the complete Sonic the Hedghog SatAM series on DVD and Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.
C&C3 is now an obsession.
The first time I saw my harvester roll out and begin gathering those glittering green poisonous crystals, I felt like I had just watched my first egg hatch. I was giddy, I pracitcly squeeled (The Bun comments: "Practicly? You squeeled like a little girl!").
Zone Troopers have become a mainstay of my army, almost as much as the Mammoth tank itself (droools).
Playing back in the Tiberium universe really connects me with the old gamer I was back then, and the newer-more experianced gamer I am now.

General | Posted 18 years agoJust wondering why it is that Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow never got the respect it deserves.
I mean really...it had so much style and humor - great actors with great dialogue and effects. It really deserves a lot more attention.

Rent Troubles
General | Posted 18 years agoI don't often journal about my real life troubles, but The Bun and I are very close to being evicted from our apartment.
The check that had been written for rent last month bounced, and just today we were told that we have to pay last months rent by the first, and next months rent by the fourth (maybe holding out till the 15th) or we will be evicted and taken to court.
Fortunatly, after some very generous donations, and some help from my parents, it looks like we'll be able to pay - but this has us both rather strained, emotionally and as far as our relatioship - but we're hoping for the best.
Thank you to those who rose up to help us, I hope that the Lord, or karma, or good fortune reward you for your generosity.
To everyone else, that's what's currently going on, so...I guess now you're better informed.

Console vs. PC thingy
General | Posted 18 years agoI'm definatly a PC gamer. I got into gaming during the reign of Wolfenstein 3D and I've never looked back (except to count my own frags).
I enjoy primarily FPSers, though I love RTS games as well (namely the Command and Conquer series).
The only consoles I have ever owned have been a Sega Dreamcast (it came free with a TV/VCR combo I bought while in the millitary and since I didn't have access to a computer, I played Quake 3: Arena on it) and a Sega Genesis (it had a Jurassic Park game that allow the player to be a 'raptor and I just had to finish it).
My consort,
witchiebunny has a PS2 (which I bought her as a gift) and the other day, I saw a copy of 'Black' at our local game store for a cheap price. It was FPS I already knew, and since I also knew that a PC release wasn't planned, I decided to give it a try.
As I was playing, with The Bun watching, I began commenting on the differance between thumbsticks and a keyboard and mouse. The Bun had this to say:
"The console gamer who manages to match the PC gamer in skill, speed and accuracy will be quite the gamer indeed."
Discuss amongst yourselves.

Anime Meme? What the heck!?
General | Posted 18 years agoGot tagged with this meme by The TWF.
Just for the record, I do not like anime. Aside from the first few episodes of Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop, I do not watch anime.
1. What is your favorite anime?
Don't think I have one. Trigun, Cowboy Bebop and Akira are the one's I'm most familiar with, and I guess I'll go with Cowboy Bebop.
2. What is your second one?
Maybe Trigun.
3. If you could change your username without losing your stuff would you?
Yes, I would drop the '5' and just be D.O.P.R
4. What is your favorite japanese song?
I'm not fond of Japanese music either. But Wierd Al Yankovic did a japanese version of "Jurassic Park is Frighteing in the Dark".
5. What was the reason you came to FA?
It had been suggested to me by several people, and after some looking around, I decided it seemed a good place to put up some of my stuff 'out there' and see what people thought. I havn't regretted it since.
6. Who was your first watcher?
My kitten -
fullbloodlion
7. Who was the first person to do a commission for you?
I'n not sure, but I beleive it was David Hopkins (creator of Jack)
8. How many people are currently watching you?
I don't know how to check, but I have

9. Do you currently have any problems with FA?
Not really - though there is, of course, room for improvment.
10. What is that problem?
I wouldn't mind having a feature that allowed my to sort my favorites by Aritst, Genre and so forth.
11. What is your favorite furre related online game?
I don't have any game that's specificly intended to be 'Furry',except the Jack RPG. But I liked Drakan: Order of the Flame.
12. What is your favorite non-furre related online game?
I don't play games online.
13. What online game do you wish you could play?
None really, or I would have gotten them.
14. Do you wish you could draw?
Everyone can draw - I would like to able to draw better - but that takes practise.
15. If you could somehow be able to draw by trading your writing abilities for drawing ones... would you?
No, not really. I enjoy writing, and if I didn't draw, I would be able to write more.
16. Do you wish you had more people reading your stories sometimes?
When I feel so, I'll post them.
17. What do you hate most in the world?
Injustice.
18. Would you leave FA anytime soon?
Doubtful.
19. Do you wish you had as many people watching you as you watching other people?
I can't possibly answer that truthfull without A. Knowing how many people are watching me or B. Knowing what differance it would make.
20. What is one of your fantasies?
Having a device, or ability that allowed me to pause time itself. Basiclly in a situation just like the movie 'Timestoppers' - only I've had this fantasy since I was a child.
And now, to tag ten people:
I'm not going to torture anyone by spreading this further. I don't mind memes, but this one isn't very well done and doesn't make much sence.

Down in the Valley Tonight
General | Posted 18 years agoCome on inside my head and sit down for a while, we got some emotion who's sure to make you smile.
Carried off the Rio Grande, a bottle of liquour in his hand.
Sundown burn your eyes and now it feels alright. No one fears the darkness down in the valley tonight.
I have my feelings like a Dutchman has his gold. Deep in the canyon by the river that runs cold.
Hung years and fifth demention, these many poor conditions, oh!
Oh, sundown burn your eyes and now it feels alright. No one fears the darkness down in the valley tonight.
Sundown burns your eyes and now it feels alright. No one fears the darkness down in the valley tonight.
-She grew diamonds in her hidden magic drawer, in case her livelihood should fall right throught the floor.
And in a harvest season sow some good times on our skin-
Oh, sundown burn your eyes and now it feels alright. No one fears the darkness down in the valley tonight.

Sad News for MLG Fans
General | Posted 18 years agoThis was posted to one of the art groups I attend.
"Charlene K. Vink-Vermere Rickards aka Mousey
December 25, 1956 to May 19, 2007
Charlene of the "Mousey Love Girls" (the blond
one with the glasses) died Saturday night at
10:30PM Pacific time of bone cancer.
Herb called me today with the news – she left
peacefully and with her loved ones at her side
to see her off. She was fortunately enough to
be conscious at the end and was able to tell
everyone goodbye seconds before she left.
Heh, I've always got so much to say on stuff
and yet now, when there's something important,
I can't really think of anything. : /
Good bye Char, we'll miss you…
(From CigarSkunk)"
After ten years of fighting, she finally passed to whatever lies beyond.
Though I never had the fortune to meet her, I knew of her and respected her.
I hope the Lord takes her in His mighty arms and bears her to the golden beyond.

Updates, including RapRex and AC
General | Posted 18 years agoThe desktop PC is back to a working state, but is without internet - probubly for a while. So The Bun and I will be sharing (i.e. fighting over) the laptop till it's fixed.
The good news is that through an act of incredible generousity, we might just be getting a new, custom-built PC in June. We're beside ourselves with gratitude for this, and give many luvs and hugs to the provider (he knows who he is).
In other news - I have offically started on RapRex Chapter 4. I had a few sketches before, but now I have seven fully-sketched pages and a clear idea of how I want the rest of the chapter to proceed.
So don't worry all you RR-lovers - it's not dead.
I might post up another sample pic of Cpt. 4 just to keep interest alive.
I will indeed be attending AnthroCon this time around, and anyone who wants to meet me is welcome to approach. I love meeting new folks and trading sketchbooks, so please, honor me with your precence.
Unless you don't shower...in that case, shower first, then approach. :-P
Various stressors have been plauging me lately, and I've been struggling a bit emotionally, but things havn't been too evil yet. All in all i've been doing fairly well, and I'm greatfull to everyone who has watched me and commented on my works. You're all an inspiration.

I've still got access to the laptop, so I'll be able to check in from time to time, but not as often.
I'll see if my scanner will work on here, so I can upload the many sketches I've been doing - but no gaurentees.

In your journal, write three things about yourself. It could be something about your personal history, characteristics, whatever, just as long as it's about YOU.
Two of the things you tell MUST be truthful
The other MUST be a lie.
But don't mention which is which. ;)
1. I hate to wear hats.
2. I would rather live like a pauper in Dinotopia then a millionare in New York.
3. I did voicework for a 'Lord of the Rings' game.
Now... Which one do you think the lie is?

Fodder for Scraps
General | Posted 18 years agoI've been doing a lot of sketching lately and have a whole slew of fairly decent sketches that I'm thinking of loading into scraps. I might not get to it today, but if you guys are interested, then keep an eye open for them.
I'm also working on another gift pic - one I've wanted to do for a long while - but I'm having a bit of trouble getting it to look right, so I'm falling a bit behind.
More is on the way for all you happy people.

Old Gay meme (stolen from Meesh)
General | Posted 18 years ago1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
Post this in your Journal to support Gay Rights!

PC Update
General | Posted 18 years agoI got a little good news - iTunes still isn't starting the way it should (though my iPod still works fine) but I got the external hard-drive to be reckognized.
Just as The Bun and I were starting to despair, I unpluged it totally - let it cool down for about 30 seconds, then plugged it all back in and it popped up just like it's suppost to.
So I havn't lost all my por....er...files. And all my games...most of them were on my external too.
So, a little good news.

So if I suddenly drop off the face of the earth, or post sporaticly, that's likely why.
This poor old machine is quickly approaching the end of the line, and I won't be able to replace it with anything for some time, so it'll have to stay together for a while longer....

DOPR in a Comic
General | Posted 18 years agoA great artist and friend of mine, Mune
munesol has been doing a webcomic for a while named 'Down to Furth'.
Excelent stuff and all, totally true!
Well...mostly true at any rate...
In any event, he writes the comic based off events that happen in his everyday life, and since The Bun
witchiebunny and I are a part of his life (though we don't see him everyday) we both have made, and may make, apperances.
So certainly check it out. He's a fantastic artist and has done a comic that I know will be a classic.
And I'm not just saying that because I'm in it.

AC News
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, it looks like my plans for AC are going to have to change a bit.
My consort, Usagi has decided that it wouldn't be practical for her to go to AnthroCon this year, and since I've sworn that I will be there, I'll be going by myself.
But this also means that I'm out of a room.
I'm a bit embarassed having to ask, but if anyone has a room they are willing to share, I'll take them up on it.
I don't party, and won't be sleeping much during the con, and only really need a place to store my bags and clothes during the convention, so I wouldn't be much hassle.
I will respect anyone's wish for privacy or 'alone time' and am a relatively quiet person. Most of my time will be spent out and about during the con and not in the room, so you might not even really see me in the room at all.
If anyone wouldn't mind giveing a poor shelterless Drake a place to crash during the con, please let me know.

General | Posted 18 years agoJust a quick before-work update to let you all know that I havn't forgotten about you.
Caught a bit of a cold, so I havn't been too inclined to finish the couple sketches I have laying around that I mean to post.
I'll get those, and a picture of my new tattoo up, hopefully, today when I get back from work.
We'll see how it goes.
Take care, all you crazy Furries!

General | Posted 18 years agoHello all you happy people in internet-land.
Hello all you not-happy people in internet-land.
Hello all you numb people in internet-land.
Hello everyone else.
There's a bit of a brain gnawer that I get from time to time, especially after I've done a bunch of pics, and I struggled a bit more with it this evening and thought I'd make a journal about it since - well, journals are for espousing ideas/questions/rants/whining/brain-food.
Anyone who is familiar with my gallery at all can see that I do a lot of fanart and giftart. Most of it is for people that I don't know personally, but have seen around and (for whatever reason) felt compelled to draw.
Many of these people, Such as SkyShadow, Agro, and Kaa (naming only a few) are artists that I repect and admire, and I want to give back some of that respect in the form of giftart/fanart.
These artists also tend to get a lot of my attention and praise via the comment box (naturally, because I admire them).
The quasi-hypothetical question that I was wrestling with was the thought that maybe I'm just being a suck-up.
Now, it's no unusual thing for anyone to shower their mentors (real or imagined) with praise and adoration, and perhaps that's what I'm doing. Clinging desperatly onto the tails of those I feel are successful and respectable, perhaps in the subconscious-but-yet-vain hope that maybe some of that talent will pour back down upon me.
I realize that you, the fans, probubly don't give too much thought to this, since my fancy for giftart regularly provides all of you with yet more yummy art to oogle. But that dratted little brain-gnawer is slippery and I wonder what the recipiants of my assiduity think of it.
I hope that they recognize that my intentions are altogether altruistic and that I'm not trying to suck up to anyone. Yet, maybe the shadow of insecurity is helping feed these mental gremlins.
While I'm on the subject of insecurity, I might as well mention another 'gremlin' that I kick around sometimes.
Forgive me if I seem like I'm whining, and I'm not blaming anyone or pointing fingers. I'm just "presenting my thoughts" as journals are purposed to do.
There are times when I see other artists trading artwork back and forth with one another when I feel a little pang of envy.
It's the old, "Why them and not me?" lament.
I'm not going to throw a huge emo trip over such things - I'd at least like the think that I'm wise enough now to understand that those kind of things aren't something that I can simply 'will' myself to have, nor are they given away by lamenting their absence.
They're spontaneous and generous.
I reckognize the feeling as totally selfish, and I well understand that it does me no good to either yearn for it, or feel envious, but emotions aren't something that can be 'turned off'. We can't control how we feel - only how we react.
I'm just ranting now, but hopefully you guys can understand at least a little of what I'm trying to say.
I'll still be doing fanart for people, but if I start to become a suck-up, please let me know.

RapRex Update
General | Posted 18 years agoJust another quick update on RapRex.
I'm still working on it, although it's been really slow. I'm trying to do my best on it, and that means that I'm not going to force myself to work on it and end up with half-hearted panels.
Chapter 3 still isn't fully inked (I underestimated how long a single page takes me to ink) but I'm finally started to get a feel for how Chapter 4 will go.
For a while, I was unsure if there would even be a Chapter 4 since I was having a hard time comming up with ideas and inspiration for setups and such. But I think I may have something worked out for when I get to that point.
I would also like to take the opertunity to thank everyone who is interested in the comic and has given me so much positive feedback and support.
But I regret to temper that thanks with a somewhat stern request.
I know that anticipation for the comic is high, especially amoungst those of you who have already seen samples and some of you who have seen it fully in person. But I WILL NOT send you a rar file of the whole comic, or accept requests to 'trade' for it.
I still plan on releasing it fully as a webcomic, and will do no more samples or freebies (unless I feel they are warrented).
And trying to convince me that "I won't share it with anyone, I swear" - wether I beleive you or not - will not change my stance.
It will be a webcomic, or it will not be released.
Once again, thank you everyone for the interest and support. It's very much appreciated and humbling.

Soundtrack Meme
General | Posted 18 years agoIF YOUR LIFE WERE A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
I love music, and I have a playlist specificly for songs that I feel have a special meaning or significance to me.
Unfortunatly, only one of them came up on this list (I'll let you guess which it was).
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie.
(I cheated in that I skipped over the couple times iTunes picked a track from an audiobook)
Opening Credits:
"Before Tomorrow" by "Atomic Rooster"
(Most likely no one reading this will be familiar with Atomic Rooster. They were a British Prog Rock group in the same vein as Black Sabbath. They never really made it, getting ony two songs on the Brit charts.)
Birth:
"Hall of the Mountian King" by "Grieg"
(Apperanly I just kind of...snuck...out of the womb and began dancing around the moment I popped out. Or maybe they did tug-of-war with the umbilicle. Or something...)
First day at school:
"Nash Calling" from the Jurassic Park 3 soundtrack
(I guess it could work, given the right imagery.)
Falling in Love:
"Sjokolade" from the game The Sims 2
(Oh boy...this is not going well... This is one of the songs in 'Simish' - the invented 'language' for the Sim games. It sounds like it should be on the "Clueless" soundtrack.)
Fight Song:
"Flight to the Ford" from the "Fellowship of the Ring" soundtrack
(Love the song, but it doesn't really work. It's a "Flight" song...not a "Fight" song... Although it does have some dramatic moments)
Breaking Up:
"Jurassic Park Theme" from "The Best of John Williams"
Prom:
"Unnamed" (mistitled "Filmmusik - Western Movies") from "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" soundtrack
(Unfortunatly, I don't have the full GtBatU soundtrack, so if anyone has it and wants to make me a copy, I'll do art for you. And this must by one strange prom...)
Life:
"Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth
(That's better! "Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch!" Not quite me, but certainly better then they've been so far)
Mental Breakdown:
"Walking in the Air" from the "Snowman" soundtrack
(Ok, that's just not right... "Snowman" was a film my parents would watch with me when I was very, very little and this song is on my 'Christmas List'. I should hope that if I ever have a mental breakdown, I wouldn't be hearing this...though it might be the cause.)
Driving:
"March Of The Toreadors" (from Carmen) by Bizet
(That must be some drive...)
Flashback:
"Irish Ballad" (a Tom Lehrer cover) by The Brobdingnagian Bards
( "The Bards" are a really great Irish-folk group - playing classic irish songs in classic, sometime humorus, style. However, I wonder what kind of flashback I'm having with this song...it talks about a girl who murders all her family - even cooking up her baby brother and inviting her neigbors in to eat.)
Wedding:
"Self Esteem" by "The Offspring"
(Nice, upbeat song to get married to... This meme has actually convinced my fiance to add this song to RL wedding music list.)
Birth Of Child:
"Communication Breakdown" (cover) by "Soundgarden".
(Alright! Start the kid off right! With ROCK 'n ROLL!)
Final Battle:
"Hello Beastie" from "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" soundtrack
(Strange, not the song I would have choosen, but it is a 'Final Battle' track... This is the song that played when Cpt. Jack Sparrow was devoured by the Kraken.)
Death Scene:
"Shotgun" by "The Outline"
(Maybe this is foreshadowing?)
Funeral:
"A Book in Every Room" by "The Yellow Cabs"
(The Cabs are a local band that I was somewhat involved with. They're on iTunes and I reckomend listening to them."
Ending Credits:
"Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)" by "Led Zeppelin"
(Well, at least Zeppelin got in there somewhere."
Overall, I think this meme failed pretty bad. None of these songs really seem to fit - nor do they seem really funny. Maybe I'll try it again sometime using only my "Assorted" list and not the general library.

New Site for Scalie Fans
General | Posted 18 years agoJust a quick little note to let more Furs and Scalies know about the Herpy site.
http://www.herpy.net/index.php
'The Herpy Referance Archive' is just that - an archive and forum for various kinds of herp/scalie-related artwork, photographs and discussion.
I have a gallery there myself including several exlusive pics that I don't plan on posting anywere else (inluding the Herpy logo which I desgined).
It might not be for everyone (especially the photos which can get fairly graphic), but it's a place made for Scalies by Scalies and deserves a chance.
So I urge all you Scalie and Herp-friendly people to go take a look.
Besides, I owe the Herpy guys for being kind enough to host a gallery of my work. They've worked really hard on the site and they deserve to see it flourish.

Firearm Comparison
General | Posted 18 years agoHere's the first of what I hope will be a continuing series of side-by-side match-ups between firearms.
If this ends up being popular, I may expand upon it, or make it a regular (as in, every Monday or every first Monday of the month) sort of deal.
The format will be this:
I'll post the names (and Wikipedia links) to a pair of differant, yet simaler weapons and you - the posters - will discuss which would be the most effective or the most ineffective in actual combat.
Keep in mind that not all weapons were made to operate under the same conditions.
Also, I'm not a firearms expert, so I'll more then likely accidently post an unequal matchup from time to time (potatogun vs. ICBM) and in that case, forgive me, but feel free to discuss their respective merits/drawbacks anyway.
And if anyone has any additional suggestions for matchups, feel free to send me a note and I'll add them to the queue.
As far as you, the posters, there really aren't any rules except those guided by common sence; the highest of which is to BE CIVIL.
Everyone has an opinion - some may be more informed, or more fluently put forward, but all are valuable and should be treated with respect.
Even if someone is deliberatly being a "poopyhead" that doesn't mean that everyone else has to be.
Keep in mind that I'm doing this for fun and for perhaps a bit of education. Feel free to be a bit goofy, or serious, or technical. Just relax and run with it.
One last thing: if any of you are anti-gun (which I imagine at least a few of you are), I respect your views and can (in many instances) agree with your points - but please don't post a reply just to say: "I don't like guns." This isn't the place to start a discussion on the morality of weapons - just a comparison of two differant types.
So, finally...the first matchup:
The MP7 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP7 ) and the FN P90 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P90 )
Discuss away!
