Still alive!
Posted 2 years agoJust popping in with an update. I had a bad patch of burnout after vending at ANE (though the con itself went great), and I put crafting on the back burner for a couple months. Combination of a lot of life stuff needing my attention, and just not finding crafting enjoyable for a while. I’ve still been shipping out Etsy orders, and I’ve been working on a big commission when I’m able, but I’ve been taking a break from posting and promoting. I needed to reduce my workload.
I’ll be back sometime in the next couple months, but not sure when exactly. I’ve still got a couple life things left to work through. I have been doing a bit more crafting lately, and am glad to be enjoying it again. I’m looking forward to easing back in to making new stuff, and being able to share it again!

Chainmail price adjustment incoming
Posted 3 years agoI just ordered like a year's worth of chainmail supplies and woof, some of the prices went up a bunch in the last year. On top of that, I'm finally caving and switching to more expensive saw-cut rings for a lot of products. (I got a whole rant on that, I actually used to prefer the machine-cut rings, but I think the quality slipped in recent years, and now it takes a lot more care and time to close rings so they're not scratchy, but before that quality change they shit I gotta stop the rant now.)
Upshot is, I'll need to adjust a bunch of my prices soon, so order now to get stuff at old pricing.
Good news is I stocked a good set of colors in a new ring size, so I'll have some fun new stuff coming down in the next few weeks.

Tired, but easing back.
Posted 3 years agoI’ve been off the map for a couple months while working on a big non-crafting project (wrote and ran a 20 person LARP on my own), and am finally starting to recover from that. In February I’ll be vending at Anthro New England, so right now I’ve got a little bit of time to try to figure out which projects or requests I can pick up again, before I find myself in convention prep mode.
I’ve got a bunch of ideas for big masks to work on, and I’d like to get at least 2 done in time for ANE. Other than that it’ll be a matter of figuring out what balance to strike between big costume items, smaller masks, and chainmail jewelry.

Escapism during times of crisis
Posted 5 years agoI’ve been mostly quiet online this last month, because I wanted not to talk over BLM voices. The art I make is largely about escapism from the world, and I didn’t feel comfortable trying to share that during the peak of this moment. I thought it was more important for society to focus on the pain and amplify the public outcry. I felt that my saying “Hey look at this unrelated pretty stuff I made!” would be detracting from the introspection that society needs right now.
That said, I knew that eventually we would need pleasant distractions again. And personally, I’ve hit the point where I need to put some fun back into my life, or I will burn out hard. So I’m going to resume posting stuff, so I can recharge my energies before feeding them back into politics.
Keep going to protests. Keep holding power to account. Keep donating to community support organizations. Read up on police+prison abolition, and write in to your city council--it’s budget season, and defunding police forces is suddenly a big issue everywhere. Make sure you’re registered to vote. Talk to your friends and family about this stuff. Support Black and other marginalized creators (even though that’s not me). Keep wearing your face masks--the pandemic didn’t get bored, even if we did.
Society is finally confronting some of the problems it’s been ignoring for decades. And this is an exciting opportunity to make some real progress. It’s exhausting, and as always things will take a long time to change. But if we all keep pushing with the strength that we are able, we will eventually move society to a better place.
And take the time to step back and rest when you need, to keep yourself happy and sane. That’s what I’m doing, that’s why I’m here.
I do try to keep my art accounts to mostly just places to showcase my work, but if you want to get the firehose blast of reblogs of things I like and care about, here is where I do that: https://twitter.com/DracoLoricatus Recently it’s mostly been boosting Black Lives Matter and related issues.

Open for dragon tail commissions!
Posted 6 years agoI am opening for dragon tail commissions! My plan is to take on 3 commissions to be completed by Christmas.
If you’re interested, check out this info page, and fill out this form with what you’d like. Deadline to put your request in is Sunday night, November 24.
Though I've been having struggles with getting traction on social media, so if I don't fill up I'll probably keep taking orders for another week or so until I fill up my queue.

conventions incoming, time to plan
Posted 6 years agoI've been accepted to vend at 2 Boston conventions coming up: Anthro New England in February, and Arisia in January. So that's super exciting.
It does mean though that I'll need to sit down and figure out my plans for getting shit done. I've spent the last couple months mostly working on large projects. (2 fairly complex hoods/masks and a big torso armor piece, with a number of scattered little things too.) January and February will need to be pretty much devoted to getting stock produced for the conventions. So that leaves 2 months for either new small designs, or commissions. In the next week I'll be sitting down to stare at my catalogue of existing designs, the calendar for the coming months, and my list of ideas and concepts.
Depending on how things fall, I may open up for a couple tail commissions in a week or two. Stay tuned.

Opening for Dragon Tail Commissions
Posted 6 years agoI am opening for chainmail dragon tail commissions! I’m looking to make 3 during May, and if there's a bunch of orders I'll probably schedule some into June. Info here: https://armoreddragon.tumblr.com/tails
Put your requests in by May 8 at midnight (eastern time), and I'll be getting back to people by May 10.
Let me know if you've got any questions!

Time to get busy!
Posted 6 years agoTax season is always painful and clears me out of money for months. Pro tip: being paid as an independent contractor /slash/ being self employed is rough.
So I'm taking it as a time to dig through my unfinished projects and get some stuff polished up and ready to sell. Get photos of things that haven't seen much of the light of day, and post them around. I got a couple medium-sized project ideas that've been kicking around my head, I'm taking some time to kick them out into the real world. I'm planning on opening up for some dragon tail commissions in the next couple days, too, so watch for that.
I'm also trying to figure out how to get my work in front of more eyeballs. Tumblr used to be pretty darn good, but since the Great Porn Purge it's been slow. (If you're still there though, I'm over here: https://armoreddragon.tumblr.com/ ) So I'm trying to spin up my Twitter presence. I'm not as familiar with the format yet, and I'm having trouble getting seen by folks there. So if you like my stuff, check me out over there: https://twitter.com/armored_dragon I'm both cross-posting finished stuff, and I'm using it as a place to put some WIPs and random crafting thoughts. And if you have an explanation of How Do Hashtags to get found, please let me know.

Next Projects?
Posted 6 years agoTime to decide on a next Project! Current contenders are:
• dragon head version 2
• big cat mask/hood
• corset (probably just a personal project though, sizing them for other people looks Hard)
• get the dragon claw gauntlet design polished up and ready to sell
• open for dragon tail commissions
Thoughts?

Opening for Dragon Tail Commissions
Posted 7 years agoIt's been a while since I've had the time to make them, but I'm finally ready to do more dragon tails! I'll have time to make about 4 of them by the end of December. (And if the stars align, and somebody puts in a request quickly that I have all the materials on hand for, I'll make the first one or two while I'm visiting family for Thanksgiving.)
Read this page for information on the tails.
And then fill out this form to request one!

Trying to decide how to Twitter
Posted 7 years agoI should probably get my ass on Twitter, shouldn't I. Managing a whole pile of social media accounts for crafting things is really tiring though. (Which is why I've not done anything more than just camp usernames on the other furry gallery sites.) Currently everything I post goes up on Tumblr, here, and DeviantArt, and also if it's a product I want to sell multiples of in the future it goes up on Etsy. That's a lot of different descriptions to write and formats to manage.
But Twitter also seems like probably a good way to like find meet-ups and events and club nights and parties and what have you. So since in recent months I've been trying to get myself out there and meet more people, it would probably be good to get on it.
I've got 2 usernames camped on Twitter: this one, and the one I've been using in recent years for my Etsy and Tumblr username and other public-facing crafting stuff. I'm thinking I'll probably use the Etsy username as mostly just crafting things. Post the things I make, maybe retweet cool things that I admire. Then probably use this older username as a personal account to be more casual and social-focused.
I'd be curious if anyone has opinions or experience with dealing with multiple accounts like this.

Dragon Tail Commissions Open!
Posted 7 years agoAfter a very long period of being super busy with lots of things, I am finally able to open for tail commissions!
I will be taking requests for commissions through Thursday April 5. Commissions I accept at this time will be completed by the end of April. Read up on the details here, and then fill out this form!
Note that I do expect to get more requests than I will be able to complete at this time. I don't like taking commissions on a first-come-first-serve basis, since that just seems to privilege people who're online all the time. I try to be fair when I pick which commissions to take, and people who request one now but who don't make it will have priority in the future.
Feel free to ask questions!

Quick update, commissions opening soon.
Posted 7 years agoI’ve been super busy for the last... while... so haven’t been able to devote as much time as I’d like to crafting. My normal-job work has been super busy with us scrambling to finish a set of construction drawings for this (actually really neat I think) roof addition. We just yesterday sent out (what I believe to be) the final set of drawings. Then in the evenings I’ve been working really hard to finish writing a LARP that we’re running tomorrow.
Next week I’m going to be attempting to power through a costume for the Magic Meat March challenge. I’m not yet sure what direction I’m going to take for it, so if you’ve got ideas for a costume I should make let me know! The first year I made a stack of armor pieces, and the second I did a sort of rogue get-up where I made a leather jacket. I’m kind of thinking about doing like an evil spell-caster or necromancer thing, with a bunch of black strap work in pentagram shapes and stuff. Something to take the bondage-harness aesthetic but reconfigure it into something more fantastical.
After that project is done, my queue of big projects will be pretty much taken care of! So I’ll be opening up for tail commissions! I’ve had a bunch of people contact me over the last few months asking about them. (I’ve occasionally been too busy to even respond to those requests, so my apologies to those folks.) People who’ve submitted tail requests in previous rounds will get first dibs, but I’ll be posting the official opening announcement next week.

Too busy to post; also ANE!
Posted 7 years agoWow the last couple months have been crazy busy. Work has been super hectic, lots of other life obligations, you know the drill. No emergencies on my end (knock on wood), just lots of stress.
I have been making stuff when I am able, but have generally been too overworked to actually photograph and post anything. I've got some progress shots of a few projects I might throw up though.
One aspect of the business is I've enrolled in a pottery class, so that's siphoned off a good chunk of my available crafting time and energy. I'd done pottery back in high school, but it'd been like a decade since I'd had the chance to work with it. I've been making bonsai pots, as many as I possibly can. (Growing tiny trees is a long-running low-time-investment hobby of mine. Haven't really ever posted photos of my trees though. I'm proud of them but most will take another 5 years or so before they start looking good.)
I've had a bunch of requests for tails that I can't say yes to, and I feel bad about it. I I keep telling people that I hope to open for commissions soon, and every month it seems like I'm about to get stuff steadied out down to a manageable level, but it keeps not quite happening. And there were a couple custom design requests I thought I'd be able to do that I ended up falling through on. I feel bad about that too, but at the same this is why I don't take payment until after I've completed a project. It means if I end up being unable to complete it, I might owe someone an apology, but I don't owe anyone money or things I can't provide.
In more fun news, I'll be attending Anthro New England this weekend! I'm not dealing, just attending. I'll be wearing random assortments of my costume stuff and looking for people to meet. I did show up at ANE last year for a part of the weekend to test the waters, but this is the first time I've actually got a room and stuff, and am actually looking to meet and befriend people. If you're at the con, feel free to accost me and say hi! If you get me going I may end up talking your ear off about leather and lasers or teaching you chainmail or dragging you to go questing for dim sum or what have you.

Busy times.
Posted 8 years agoHad a big bulk order of masks that kept me busy from July through this last weekend. Finally got it shipped out though!
Also have been doing lots of summer things. End of July I had a vacation with family--every year we spend a week on the beach in North Carolina, on the outer banks. A+ summer. The weekend before that a friend whisked me away to the (tiiiiiny) private island her family has a little cabin on, on a lake in New Hampshire. This coming weekend my friend is dragging me to New York to see a one-man play, and the weekend after that I'm going backpacking with a group to go see the eclipse. Soooo excited about the eclipse.
Oh and also I have to move again at the end of the month because they're gutting the building I'm currently in.
Happily, in the time I do have I've been excited about working on new projects. Someone made some repairs on the laser cutter I use, and it's cutting better than ever.
I think for August I'm going to focus on making new designs, and then take some tail commissions for September.

Attended first fur con!
Posted 8 years agoAnthro New England in Boston! I declare it to have been successful! I walked in the door knowing zero people, and I left having hugged some fursuiters and met some fun people! My biggest hope/goal was to meet some local furs so I'd have some contact points for insinuating myself into local social circles. And I think that kind of worked! So yay!
The hotel where it's held is only a 10 minute walk from the place I work, so it was super easy to get to. I had a conflict that kept me from being there Saturday during the day, but I was there Friday and Saturday nights, and for the everyone-is-exhausted Sunday.
I wore jingly and shiny chainmail around, and handed out business cards when people were interested in it. That's basically my standard procedure when attending other conventions. (I've been to the Arisia sci-fi/fantasy convention a number of times, so I'm comfortable doing that even if I don't have any clue what else is happening.) I missed some cool-sounding stuff just due to not having heard about them until afterwards, but oh well.
Socially, it was an interesting experience. As I kind of expected, I'd say the bell curve of social skills was shifted a bit in the awkward direction, but not too badly. At a con like like Arisia, which has a few thousand people attending, it mostly doesn't feel appropriate to try to strike up a conversation with a random person. There're just too many people, too big an overload of sensation. But the size of ANE made it feel more manageable and open.
It looks like I'll be downloading Telegram and actually getting up on Twitter in the next week or two, since those seemed to be the ways most people were keeping in touch with each other. This might signal that it's time for me to give up on my vague attempts to keep my furry habits obscured from my IRL life. (Though it's super easy to internet-stalk, I've got a totally unique hyphenated name and my FA and DA accounts use the same username.) But you know what, my current social circle from school is getting spread a bit thin from people drifting apart, it's been 6 years since I graduated. I need some fresh socializing. You gotta remake yourself every so often, and new social contexts are a huge part of that.
Anyway. I was also pretty surprised by how many people (at least among people I met) had traveled 6+ hours to get there. I'd been assuming it was a mostly local con, I hadn't expected so many people would be traveling from as far as like Pennsylvania.
Hooray meeting people! I'm looking forward to doing this again!

At my first furcon!
Posted 8 years agoI finally did it I guess. Anthro New England is within a long walk from my home, so I'm stopping by throughout the weekend! If you're reading this and happen to also be there, you should accost me!
It's weird because I don't know a single person! So I ended up playing games for a few hours, which was moderately successful!
I've got a couple conflicting things tomorrow (inventorying a library and then running a LARP), but I'll be dropping in during the afternoon and again late in the evening.
I'm determined to have fun!
Anyway, now it's 2 AM and it's time for me to walk home.

General State of My Art Update
Posted 8 years agoFor the last 6 months to a year I’ve been less active with Making Things than I’d like. I’d just like to talk briefly about why that is, where I’m at, and where I’m trying to go.
-
One component was that my day job was fairly busy. Which is good! I basically work as the second guy in a 1-man architecture practice. I do nearly all of the drawings and the 3D modeling. This year we finished up a vacation house on the shores of Lake Michigan, which was awesome, and we had a half dozen smaller projects bouncing around at any given time.
We had plenty of work, but sadly I was unable to really get myself into the office for consistent 8-hour days. Mostly the problem was my own poor life habits, fed by expectation creep, self-efficacy issues, stress, and probably some low-grade depression. Then there were occasional bursts of long days and nights working to meet a deadline, which threw more stress and inconsistent schedule problems into the mix.
I’m making some actual headway on improving my life schedule habits. I’m getting myself in to the office earlier and not staying late. I’m keeping myself to a more consistent but smaller amount of crafting in the evenings, and I’m going to sleep earlier.

The other main component of my art inactivity was simply a matter of access to tools.
The place I used to go to use laser-cutters (and where I used to work 2011-2013) stopped offering lasers for hire sometime in May or so, then they dicked around for a few months bleeding more money before finally closing shop sometime around October. They liquidated their assets, but the owner was trying to squeeze a last buck out of the situation, and they were trying to sell their lasers for basically their sitcker prices, of between $20K and $50K. So I didn’t even have a chance to try to nab one of those.
For the next few months I was in a laser limbo. I managed to beg time on a cutter at a youth program’s maker space, which is largely run by a couple people I used to work with at the laser shop. But every time was basically calling in a personal favor, and scheduling was difficult, so that was Not Sustainable.
There’s an artist’s co-op space not too far away from me that has wood and metal shops, and theoretically a laser cutter. I signed up for a training on their machine in July. At the training they admitted that they’d been trying to upgrade their machine, but it wasn’t working yet. And that it had been out of commission in this state since January.
So that was a non-starter at the time.
Last year I put money down for the Glowforge, a crowdfunded desktop laser cutter. Around this time they pushed their delivery date back to December.
Come September, it turned out the dormitory I lived in during college had just gotten a small laser cutter. And luckily I’m still friends with a few undergrads, who somehow seem to think of me as cool and not creepy and weird for still hanging around from time to time. So for a few months that was what I had to work with. It was definitely not ideal, because it took coordinating with undergrads, and I don’t trust a machine in that sort of situation to be maintained very consistently. But it worked OK enough.
Around this time I was having some really unhappy crafting thoughts. I was without reliable access to the tool I’d built my leather product line around. I was wondering how long my goodwill would last for begging laser access off of friends. If I couldn’t get access to laser cutters, I’d have to stop making those things. And if the awkwardness of getting onto a laser cutter increased, there might come a point where it was just no longer worth it to keep going. And there’s no way I could magic up ten grand to buy myself a laser cutter that would work reliably.
Oh, and about this time, one of the little designs I’d posted a while back and had languished without much public fanfare (this leaf barrette concept) got featured on the front page of Etsy. And suddenly I had more orders all at once than I ever expected to deal with. So that was a crazy couple of weeks. I’d only made like 3 copies of those leaves before that happened, and hadn’t sold a single one I don’t think.
Oh and also between August and November, I moved apartments without a car, my last grandmother died, and I volunteered hard for Hillary for the week leading up to the election. So there was that.
After the main burst of those orders passed, it was Magic Meat Week, and I put together probably the most intense leather design I’ve made by hand. (Here’s the initial photos of it, I’ve finally got some more photos I’ll post after this.) And then I made those assless chaps for a LARP. I was actually really happy to be making some stuff that was totally different from the types of leather work I’d made before. And I was happy to be making some stuff just for myself, with no plans to sell them.
Way at the tail end of that burst of barrette orders, the artist’s co-op finally got their laser cutter up and running again. I got in to use it during December, and it worked.

So that’s kind of where I’m at right now. I’m not sure the co-op’s laser will continue to work reliably for the foreseeable future, but for now I’m going to act as though it will.
I think I’m currently in the mood for pushing larger projects again. I’m feeling like I’m at a point of change in terms of what I want to be selling, and I’d like to put energy into the higher end of the spectrum again. Put the smaller things more on the back burner again. Don’t work so much on individual one-off small things, but work on suites of designs, like the 6 leaf barrette types I’ve got put together now. I think I want to make another large steampunk piece like the shark head or the plague doctor. (The shark head sold this year, the plague doctor got a few inquiries but none of them followed through.) And I should finish up the design for that pup hood.
When I was in to laser stuff, the main thing I did was to cut parts for one of the lamps I designed in 2014. In the next few days I’ll be assembling that, getting some fresh photos, and posting it up for sale. It doesn’t match with the materials and tone of the rest of my products, but that’s OK. Maybe I’ll also make some more of the lamp designs I’d had to keep it company.
I still feel like I haven’t quite found the genre niche that I need. I consistently have this issue where I only really want to make designs that nobody else makes. The problem with that is that many of my designs fail to fit into people’s pre-defined conceptions of what they want to buy. I find myself making products that are lacking a market audience. Whereas my most successful product (the scalemail tails) has a very specific target audience (you guys here), that really wants to buy it.
So I think I need to explore the target-market question more. Maybe I should just make two dozen dragon tails and get a table at a furry convention. (After all, half the time spent making those is the time spent coordinating with the commissioners.) Maybe I should do more leaf designs and find the forest-fairy-ren-faire crowd. Maybe I should make more codpieces and hoods and strap harnesses and sell to the fetish market. Maybe I should just make More Rainbows and sell to The Gays My People. I don’t know! Please let me know your thoughts on this question!
All told, given the situation, between Life being Difficult and laser access being Frustrating, I think I actually did do a good amount of Making Things this last year. The second half of the year was discouraging for various reasons, but I think I’m pushing forward with some good energy!

Vote!
Posted 9 years agoI try to keep this page just for the things I made that I want to show you, but this is too important.
We all need to vote tomorrow.
I could wax eloquent about Hillary, but I don’t think I need to. I know we furries are mostly young, with a heavy skew towards LGBTetc. Just by demographics, I know that most of us side with Hillary and the Democrats on most issues.
We just need to have our voices heard. We need to vote.
I agree that Hillary’s not my ideal perfect dream candidate. If you see this election as an unhappy choice between two evils, I understand that sentiment. (I personally don’t agree that Hillary is at all bad, but I understand why people see this.) But remember: choosing the lesser of two evils is still the right choice.
If you’re gunning for a third party candidate, I sympathize, but until we have a ranked voting system, we’re stuck with two choices.
If you’ve got doubts about Hillary, please do drop me a note. I’d love to chat with you in the morning.
But please. Everyone. All 1200-ish of you. Get out to the polls. Bring your friends. Be heard. Vote.

Troubles with lasers
Posted 9 years agoThe place I've been renting laser cutting time for the last few years seems to be heading in the direction of out of business. A few months ago they stopped making custom orders for people, but were still open for renting time on the machines. Now they've stopped offering laser services entirely.
I used to run this shop for a year and a half, until the spring of 2013. It had always been a struggle, mostly because of the poor choices of the owner. Now it seems he's finally done it in. I'm sad about the community losing this resource, but I'm not surprised or sorry for the owner. Who knows, maybe he'll convince more investors into keeping it afloat for a while longer, but I'm not sure what his expectation is for making any money going forward. Their website seems to claim they're planning on designing and selling a laser cutter, but I'm highly skeptical.
Anyway, I'm getting trained on a cutter at an artist-focused maker space tomorrow. It's less conveniently located to my current apartment, but I expect it'll save me money anyway. And it'll be interesting to have a chance to break into that group of artists.

Dragon Tail Commission Requests Open!
Posted 9 years agoToday only! I'm accepting requests for dragon tail commissions! This window will be open from now until midnight at the end of Saturday March 26, Eastern US time.
I will be accepting 2 or 3 commissions from the pool of people who respond. These commissions will be completed by the end of April. This is not a first-come-first-served situation; all people who respond during this 24-hour window will have an equal chance.
As stated previously, I will not be choosing entirely randomly. My choice of which projects to accept will be affected by, among other factors: how quickly I believe I can complete the specific request; availability of materials; whether the person has inquired about commissions in the past; and personal whims about what I want to work on. I will do my best to be fair, though.
To request a commission, first read my tail ordering guide here. Then, when you're ready, fill out this request form.
Assuming this round goes well, I expect to open up for another batch towards the end of April.

Opening for Dragon Tail Commission Requests
Posted 9 years agoAfter much delay, I’m finally ready to open up for commissions again! But I’m changing how I manage these commissions, to avoid in the future getting into the situation that forced me to close commissions for so many months.
I will accept requests on Saturday, March 26, from approximately midnight to midnight Eastern US time. I will be accepting either 2 or 3 commissions, to be completed by the end of April. I will post a Google form to take info for these commission requests.
I expect to receive more inquiries than I will be able to accept at this time. Essentially it will be a lottery. I don’t like the stress of first-come-first-served situations. I’ll contact the people whose requests I select and work out the final details.
I will note that I will not be choosing entirely randomly. My choice of which projects to accept will be affected by, among other factors: how quickly I believe I can complete the specific request; availability of materials; whether the person has inquired about commissions in the past; and personal whims about what I want to work on. I will do my best to be fair, though.
In the meantime, I’ve updated my dragon tail commission guide. If you’re interested in a tail, check that out. Prices have been adjusted, some details have been clarified. If there’s anything that’s unclear about that page, please let me know.
Let’s see if this new system works out well! My ultimate goal is to help me complete more commissions, in a more timely manner, with less stress and uncertainty all around. I think this consolidating of requests and communications will make things easier to manage on my end. I hope never again to end up with a huge backlog of commissions that takes me months to get through.

Suggest some mask ideas!
Posted 10 years agoSome context: The place I go to rent time on the laser cutter recently switched how they charge. They used to charge per minute of cutting time, which was convenient because I could pop over when someone bought something off Etsy, cut it out quickly, pay for the 3 minutes of cutting time, and be out the door within 10 minutes.
But they switched to charging according to time that you’re on the machine. Which would be fine, since I’m pretty practiced and efficient, except that the minimum time they’re charging for is $50 per half hour on the cutter.
So in order to not bleed money, any time I’m there cutting something for an order I need to pad out the half hour with cutting extra copies of something else. So far I’ve been cutting blanks of the small mask designs I’ve had for a while.
But this is also a fine opportunity to make some new more small- to medium-sized designs! Recently my most popular design has been this jackal mask. I should make some more designs like that.
So what sorts of animals would people be excited to see in fancy leather mask form? Let me know!!!!

I did it. I just ordered a laser cutter.
Posted 10 years agoThere’s this company called Glowforge that’s made a new consumer-level laser cutter, and after a year or so of hearing whispers about it they have now released it for pre-order.
The specs are totally reasonable. 40 Watt CO2 laser, 12x20 inch cutting bed. They’re doing a lot of fancy stuff with a cloud-based driver, like optically locating your material and registering your artwork onto it. A lot of that stuff is pretty darn cool, but I probably won’t use much of that functionality. In the end it probably won’t quite negate my need to go in and rent time on the big cutters at the laser store, but I’ll be able to produce lot of my designs quickly and easily without paying someone else. And it’ll make prototyping super easy.
The retail price they’ve set for the cutter is $4000, but for the rest of their pre-order period they’re offering it at HALF OFF. Which is FREAKING AWESOME. If you too want a laser cutter of your very own, go check them out before the end of the week!
But wait there’s more! If you use my referral link: http://glowforge.com/referred/?kid=6N3AV you’ll get an extra $100 off the discounted price, and I’ll also get $100 back! If you use my link to buy a cutter I’ll send you a pile of sweet laser-cuttable designs that I’ve made that you can cut for yourself!
