Question On doing prize drawings
Posted 9 years agoQuestion.... Does anyone know of any good name randomizer apps? We are doing drawings to give out prints of my work to market our card game but I need an app that will randomize the names and one that won't require me to type in the names ever time.

That's right my boyfriend and I are starting a game company and this is the project we have been working on for the past year. Yes a year of alpha testing and working on designs. Posted 11 years agoWow it has been ages since I last posted a journal... 2 years almost. Well after a long battle I'm back. A lot has happened. For a shorter story I got a new job... its not perfect but better. I have a wonderfully amazing boyfriend whom I moved in with last February. We are trying to launch a table top game company together.

Yesterday was my birfday!!!
Posted 13 years agoAnd I'm sooo old!!!
I'm sort of at the point in my life where I'm sort of deflated... whether its disappointment or a funk... I'm not entirely sure. But my current position wasn't where I ever pictured myself or planned.
Despite how I look physically (since I know I have an extremely youthful appearance)... as of yesterday... I'm now 28. Not that I normally dwell on the things I lack. In person I'm generally a laid back and chipper person to talk to... I guess a form of bottling I suppose. Normally I can rationalize situations no matter if they are positive or negative ones; but at twenty-eight... being verbally reflective and removing my normal rational spin... when I look at it, I can say that I'm really disappointed with myself and just general mishaps.
I have always been a hard worker... even when I'm not working my brain will come up with some kind of project. I'm really creative. I'm giving and generous. Caring, empathetic, and loyal. Responsible, efficient, and aware. These are good characteristics I have been told and know I have. I generally am and come off as a happy and content individual so usually the slight change in tone or slight disapproval is fairly noticed and taken as extremely unhappy according to my best friend.
But for as long as I can remember... I have never been extremely happy. I've always been content or impartial but happy... I'm not sure. There I things that I enjoy or that made me feel happy. Like fresh falling snow, baking, or the chill and spicy air of fall in Salem. But have I ever had a long lasting moment of happiness or bliss? While I'm a good worker who am ambitious and creative... I also put a lot of pressure on myself which has taken me away a bit from my other hobbies... like video games. Especially since I take on a lot of large commission projects (animation references and books for independent writers) that don't necessarily actually help me in the short or long term. So to that degree... that is my fault and I'm disappointed that I really don't give myself the allotted time a person needs to relax. Which as of my birthday I have made it a form of resolution.
But on the opposite side of the scale... my career has slightly tanked with the economy. After formally studying in art schools for 10 years... right now... I'm stocking shelves part time at a grocery store (because you have to wait in the chain of command to be full time and I was laid off from designing last November). Despite going to art school and even being a well positioned designer for over four years... I stock shelves. As every day passes my portfolio expires. I was an illustrator so I was never fully trained in design so my design skills expire. And there is no real way to keep up when bills and necessary living expenses need attention and done... not that the jobs are even there. After I was laid off in November I was unemployed for six months... applied to over 120 jobs... and I received not a single call. Because my previous income was 35k (I was a graphic designer for Millercoors Beer) I was flagged by retail positions so even the 6 positions I applied to Panera's as baker for were denied (and I have two years of bakery experience). My roommate pulled strings for me at the grocery store. So to that I have to remember to not blame myself for which can be difficult being who I am... being the ambitious person I am. And if I had known the future of the economy back when I was freshmen in high school (when I was planning out my path, college tours, and what not) I would have picked my second choice... culinary.
I have tried to plan a path of developing my baking portfolios and skills... particularly in cake decorating. While design and art can be outsourced... food can't. Unfortunately, obtaining my degree left me in about 60k dollars in debt... so obtaining another degree even at a trade school will be expensive. So I'm hoping that I can generate something of a portfolio to say, "Despite my education I can do this." Which I can and combining my food and art skills will have a positive out come. But that's only if someone gives me a chance and this plan still requires time if it can be pulled off.
Also I've become what I somewhat feared... "to die never being loved". Because of my good nature and loyalty... I have been liked/loved... but as a trustworthy friend or a useful ally. But never really in the sense of "me". While this probably sounds like a strange thing especially coming from someone with a hermitesque quality (hermits still have a friend or companion). So I guess, putting it more clearly, I've never really been liked for me as a person... thoughts... or company. Though to some degree... do I even have those qualities... or am I really just that...someone of use? Not entirely sure if I would hang out with myself... not that I completely dislike myself... just that I don't know what I would do with myself since I don't really know what to do in social situations period. Sort of a circle of WTF. I suppose could do things (in the event I were to hang out with myself)... make things... play games... it would be like having more hands or another person to laugh at the same joke so to speak. Just sit in the same room together really. And yes... I have never been liked romantically either... which all humans have needs in which I think you get the point. Do I need a knight in shining armor... no... I'm really (VERY) low maint. Like my best friend is my trusted companion. Like all that part of my life really lacks is the "play" part :p. "Wrestling"... cards... "wrestling" games.... perhaps actual wrestling. But I am by far not the one nighter type... or the casual. Good friends with benefits... I'm good with... but I need some form of trust and heart in there. How we got to this point is ...really no ones actually liked me. So when given the choice to at least be his companion... since we connect extremely well... pretty inseparable to a degree... and sacrificing the relationship part versus... trying to find my own and risking stability... I chose to stay (not that I'd find one probably... my family does not have that sort of history with relationships). It's easier to find someone that will sleep with you than actually connect with. Oops I added a rational element didn't I... well... I had to explain the situation I suppose to some degree.
But long journal short... I suppose I can say... I'm 28... I'm old and tired... I've never been in a relationship... and despite working so hard for most of my life... I have nothing to show for it; and it worries me.

Soooooo... updates with personal me and new prices and stuff
Posted 13 years agoSo it's been sometime since I posted anything personalish; but here goes.
So since I last posted something personal... I've been doing commissions and I got a new job (which was a hassle... let me tell you). After months of not receiving any responses and sending out over 100 applications and resumes I was going stir crazy. My roommate, who works at the grocery store said that he would be able to get me in with his store. So I said... SURE! anything is better than nothing. I don't like the idea of not having a job. I'm still only registered as a part timer but he's trying to fix that. Anyways well it turns out that they have a system that flags applications (how many people use this system is beyond me)... and for those who know me... know that I'm a great... hard working person. But I was red flagged as a "do not hire" by the grocery store... why? Because my previous income... doh >.<. I wasn't making a lot but it was definitely livable and it was comfortable with having a roommate. So thankfully the store said that they would vouch for me and found a way to hire me around it... so now I work as a GM clerk (stocking and inventory).
Which brings up this... new commission prices >.<. SORRY-YYYY!!! I promise that I really do put a lot of time and sweat into my work... so that hasn't changed; but at my last job I was a designer so I was making a... livable wage... so my commission prices were never really an issue for me. I know I set my prices low but I never really got that many commissions and I figured I'd get to figuring out prices later (the one thing I procrastinate at). But now... I'm sort of minimum wage and so I'm sort of at a need of pricing my commission work better. They are still some what low for the care I put into them (really) but again I still don't get very much attention and those I do get are from returning commssionees (thankies to you all).
Again I am sorry... hopefully those that have commissioned me in the past will still request commissions and the people who are looking for commissions will commission me. But here are the new prices.

So since I last posted something personal... I've been doing commissions and I got a new job (which was a hassle... let me tell you). After months of not receiving any responses and sending out over 100 applications and resumes I was going stir crazy. My roommate, who works at the grocery store said that he would be able to get me in with his store. So I said... SURE! anything is better than nothing. I don't like the idea of not having a job. I'm still only registered as a part timer but he's trying to fix that. Anyways well it turns out that they have a system that flags applications (how many people use this system is beyond me)... and for those who know me... know that I'm a great... hard working person. But I was red flagged as a "do not hire" by the grocery store... why? Because my previous income... doh >.<. I wasn't making a lot but it was definitely livable and it was comfortable with having a roommate. So thankfully the store said that they would vouch for me and found a way to hire me around it... so now I work as a GM clerk (stocking and inventory).
Which brings up this... new commission prices >.<. SORRY-YYYY!!! I promise that I really do put a lot of time and sweat into my work... so that hasn't changed; but at my last job I was a designer so I was making a... livable wage... so my commission prices were never really an issue for me. I know I set my prices low but I never really got that many commissions and I figured I'd get to figuring out prices later (the one thing I procrastinate at). But now... I'm sort of minimum wage and so I'm sort of at a need of pricing my commission work better. They are still some what low for the care I put into them (really) but again I still don't get very much attention and those I do get are from returning commssionees (thankies to you all).
Again I am sorry... hopefully those that have commissioned me in the past will still request commissions and the people who are looking for commissions will commission me. But here are the new prices.

1. I attended art school for 10 years. I went to one of those art schools for both junior high and high school before college.
2. I am crap when it comes to social situations but what I lack there I gain in my ability to be creative. I generally and strangely have a knack for creating things out of nothing whether it's arts or crafts or food.
3. I have a tendency to be overly rational... and no I'm not a contractor.
4. Even though I'm not good at socializing, I enjoy writing stories.
5. I like kids.
6. I HATE pork....but I LOVE bacon!!! Ham is icky... plus pork makes my stomach do funny things. Well so does lamb but put lamb in indian curry and I won't care if I'm in the bathroom for days.
7. Despite my pale complexion I am actually biracial. My mother is american (of european mix) and my father is from Port du Prince, Haiti. he moved her when he was a kid. Yes I had relatives who died in the earthquake but no I didn't know who they were... my father was always secretive about his life.

Freelance and laid off (as of last November). I know... I know... but I'm at 96 applications and resumes out and no one's called yet. I've even applied for 8 Panera positions are 4 different locations and have two years of bakery experience. I'm at that strange position have too much XP (I've worked for Houghton Mifflin/ Harcourt and Millercoors) and not enough XP (being only 27 and have no web building skills). And people think I'm too motivated for things like Panera's and administration. People have told me to go in person so they could see that I would be enthused to work as a baker so they could put a face and personality to my resume; but when I did, they have a hard time believing that I'm over 21... sigh. But I do take commissions and have been working on a few projects. I'm working on references for an animation and I'm illustrating three books as well as have a few of my own writing and illustrating to do.
7. What's one thing you like about yourself?
My creativity. People generally say that I can turn anything out of nothing. Oh and I am aging well. I know by the time I'm 40 I will love only looking like I'm in my 20s.
8. Alright, now what about something you dislike about yourself?
My social skills are pretty non-existent. No lie, I'm actually a smart person. I have an IQ of 149; but I'm far better at typing and texting than speaking. Speaking makes me seem like an idiot.
9. What's some things your friends noticed about you when they first met you?
Probably that I'm cute and look young. I get mistaken for 16-18 A LOT! Also depending on the situation, like I've been to things like a wedding shower and baby shower... where the hosts know I'm good at making things but the guest don't. I usually come in with something delicious or something cute that I've made. It's sort of my signature.
10. Of what faith/religion are you(if any at all?)
None... I'm an atheist/ pagan... meaning... I don't really believe in a deity but I like the cultures and traditions. We wouldn't have the holidays we have now without it.

Lamb is even too rich for me... but when it comes to Indian food I will take the stomach ache for that crack; and hey... hypothetically I'm going to die so stomach ache here I come.

Posted 13 years agoI was contacted by a writer by the name of Tim Girard who is trying to get an animation made of his story The Seven. It's an action quest of one boy by the name of Dormamoont wounded after a group of serpent shaman attack his village. He is the son of one of the original seven warriors (which were disband and lost). He grows up in secret training to fight and goes out to unite seven warriors again to take down the evil warlord Maug.
It's a fully anthropomorphic story ranging in many species (mongoose, koala, gorilla, rhino, boar, penguin... etc). Not to mention that it explores many cultures, regions, and tribes from around the world (japan, celtic, australia, antarctic, south american, indian). So it is definitely going to be fun and interesting. It's also a strictly independent animation. It's not going through a big studio and the writer really wants to have artists work on this so we have complete control rather than it being changed. it also means that it's all independently funded... so he is raising money to have it produced.

Posted 14 years agoI know I've been sort of hinting at a "book project" with a tease of character ideas popping up from time to time. So I thought I would actually clarify on the subject. I'm writing... a book series!!! Yes, I said a book series and yes I know... I'm an artist. Why would I attempt writing? Well I'll tell you... some artists actually write for one thing. Secondly, all artists have worlds that they create and this is just one of mine.
So this was a project that I started back in early 2007. It was going to be a 40 page children's book that basically resulted in the concept of loss being a natural part of life where a girl loses her beloved, eccentric grandfather after staying with him and hearing his epic stories of his relations with creatures only found in folklore. After losing said adult figure, she discovers that the eccentric, story-teller wasn't just telling stories when she using the key he gives her to open a room full of things that support his claims. Well turns out that it was simply too large of a concept for a 40 page book. A lot can happen in the mind of an eccentric, old man; and a lot can happen in the mind of an eccentric, old me. So why limit myself to children's book format?
What was going to be a 40 page book, turned into wanting to make a book that crossed novels and illustrated books (and it would change the world). Then this morphed into extended story elements and optional reader participation (and it would change the world). Which this all then morphed into a novelette series with prequels and optional interaction (and it would change the world). After that, I thought that this all couldn't be done or released, plus whom am I to attempt a project like this? Suddenly, one of the illustrators that I highly respect released a book called "Wondla"; and this verified that my dream world could in fact be possible. It may not change the world now BUT after 4 years of planning this story world... I have a little more courage and a little more hope that this project can and will be done.
So right now it's organized as a book series of 7 books for the main story line and 2 book "prequels" (written in that order); and when I say prequel, I mean prequel/ spin off. The book lay outs have been hatched out on various papers, typed documents, and sketchbooks; and the writing of the books are being done in pairs because I want the books to be consistent to one another (so like I'm working on 1&2, 2&3, 3&4, etc). So yes, this means I know what happens through the entire series. I've already allowed the story to mature; and at the moment, I'm rather proud of it. The prequels have also been hatched out. While the series is very much "children are the heroes", there are two supporting, adult characters that make appearances and are especially important in the story. These two characters were intended to have stories of their own and also have wove themselves into the story (I know I'm acting like this story has a life of its own but... it has).
So just to give you a better understanding of this world and making it brief (no... I'm not going to give you the entire run down and spoil it). The series is about the world of two girls, Sarah and Phoebe MacLachlan; and how they discover that what they thought was their family... well isn't.
I'm hoping to convince my best friend to get in on the action... like I'd write the series and pass it on to him to over look and make all fantastic (because I love his writings), and I already have two people that have said that they were up for being "edit eyes". But yeah!!! There you go.

X-men First Class
Posted 14 years agoYeah I know the original xmen world and I know the movies don't follow it but I still enjoyed the movie a lot. I'm more of a fan of the world of x-men so I'm not too bothered (though x3 and wolverine were horrible films but mainly just because they were also done horribly). I had a few dislikes... but over all I'd definitely say it was one of the better xmen films.
Issue 1.... Argentina being a paradise... They have llamas... and had penguins (if they don't still do). It's a mountainous and chilling country.
Issue 2... Darwin... WHAAAAAAAAAA why did he have to die? He's an interesting character with interesting abilities. Granted they said he controlled his ability in the film but still. He would have survived that... hello... he's darwin. And he had the heart of a fighter that would fight to help people.
Issue 3... Angel Salvadore. I actually had to look her up because she's not even from the original set. She's from the "New X-men" books that came out in 2004. Which after wiki-ing all of the characters the "new xmen" sounds horrible. But at least her background has something. She was saved by a group of U-men that harvest mutants. But in the film she was a stripper. An annoying stripper that flies and spits acid. First acid spit... fine... but by acid ball 30... I even want to knock her off. She makes an okay throw away character... but that's it... a throw away character... She is weak and could have been killed by a human. She should have been the one to be killed off. Not Darwin.
Issue 4... minor but... how did Banshee leap out of the water... that's a little cheesy and slight impossible.
But for a 2hr and 15 minute film... hey... those aren't that bad in the overall end.
James McAvoy (a man I love but was rather skeptical about him playing xavier)... did an AMAZING job!!! He played a GREAT Xavier... now I feel a little weird to say this... but Xavier is now a HOT character.
Magneto... was OMG fantastic! I could literally just watch a whole separate film of him going around and taking out nazis. He was PURELY badass!!! And yet you still had the feeling that... why not join him. He was sympathetic and was accepting of all mutation.
