College!
Posted 18 years agoI start college classes for the first time on the 20th, which I'm mostly happy about. I have no idea what this is going to do to my free-time, though, so I just wanted to warn everyone that my posts might get even less frequent. It's not that I'm giving up on the story, as I still intend to work on it when I can, I just can't guarantee when that'll be. :)
Wish me luck, everyone!

New Avatar
Posted 18 years agoCheck out the new avatar! The original image is "Rostro de Rion", located at http://lion-wolf.deviantart.com/ . I found this picture some time ago, and was just so taken with it; it looked so much like how I had envisioned my avatar character, Tarin Draconis (who appears in "Eve of the War", briefly). Dracon_T was simply a pen-name, y'see, similar to, but different from my usual name.
There's been a few edits, and I'll be posting the full-sized edit in my scraps in case anyone would like to take a closer look, but I'm no artist. There is no way I could have done anything near this good; I just did some recoloring, basically. Much praise should go to the original artist, and I think you should check out his work when you get the time.

Season 2?
Posted 18 years agoAnd, the first story arc is DONE. I'm hoping to take it a little easier for the second arc, as I've been driving the plot pretty heavily. Need to get some more time in for Trent and especially Elayne, they've been suffering for it, that's for sure. I need to stop picking on poor Branson for at least, oh... one chapter or so. I feel so bad for him, I've been just running roughshod over him for the last three, maybe four stories.
There's a complete copy of the whole arc in my Scraps. It may or may not be easier than working with all the separate files, not sure, but there it is, if you'd like it. I don't really have 'sketch' versions of my ideas, it'd just be a collection of one-liners and so on, so I figure I might as well use the space this way.
I'll try to have the three appendix files completely updated in the next week or so; I haven't done the Thunder Child material, and there's a LOT of characters and tech in there, and I should do a once over on the Shadowdancer material, too, I figure. I know they haven't gotten a lot of reads; see below for my reasoning.
Again, I reiterate, if there's something you'd like to see me cover in the coming weeks, don't hesitate to drop me a line and let me know! I can't promise that I will be able to cover every, or even any, requests, as I'll need to be able to research it fairly extensively if I'm to write about it, but I will give them a fair hearing, at any rate.
Additionally, I again note that if anyone would like to write in my particular vision of the Gargoyles universe, feel free! There's Superstition & The Sword, of course, and with there being some eighty-seven thousand people aboard the Thunder Child task force, I'm sure it would be possible for more than one author to write in that setting, but additionally, there's now another great opportunity within Shadowdancer proper.
Minor spoilers of the next story ahead, if you don't want to read: The Dawn Patrol is by no means a traditional unit. President Maza knows of the unique needs of the Gargoyles, as well as some of the other Races, and so it's in a way less of a proper military unit and more like a mercenary unit: DHS gets a report from the FBI about a paranormal happening, they send it to Dawn Patrol's base, where it can be taken by any of the available Platoons. A Clan doesn't have to live there, as 1st Platoon certainly does not (you'll meet them next story), but the facilities are available whenever they are desired. And Clan is a loose term in this case: Mutates, Weres, even Fey and Dragons are welcome, as long as they can work together.
Additionally, President Maza is off to other parts of the country, to recruit other Clans. What this means to my fellow writers/artists: If you're willing to write up another Clan, you can 'join' the Dawn Patrol, and effectively star in your own parallel series. Additionally, my offer of writing for Chicago Clan is also still open. Either way, all I ask is that you let me know, offer a little bit of credit, and be willing to take a few suggestions. I'm not George Lucas; I won't say, "It's not my vision, you can't dooooo this!!!!", I'd just like a little forewarning if you plan to nuke L.A. off the map, for instance. Nor would I say, "You can't post this! It's missing a comma!" :)
P.S. Keith David is doing voice work for the upcoming Transformers movie. That could be pretty cool, even though I was never a huge fan of the original show. Hugo friggin' Weaving plays Megatron, it'd probably be worth it for that alone!
P.P.S. Go see Spider-Man 3. I haven't seen it yet, but I intend to shortly. The power of the Dark Side compels you! ^_^
P.P.P.S. Especially with the Dawn Patrol, but otherwise if desired... if any of you have a personal character you'd like to see in here, drop me a line. Least I can do for my readers, eh?

Musings and Mutterings
Posted 18 years agoFirst time I've let a deadline slip this much... sorry, all, just been really busy this week. There's a few bits that I wanted to put in that just didn't fit. For instance, I'd wanted to show or refer to the quote on the Thunder Child's dedication plaque, quoting a few lines from the song Thunder Child in Jeff Wayne's musical version of the War of the Worlds. I'd wanted to do a little more with the Pirates of the Caribbean references, as well. There was a comment I'd envisioned, but couldn't see a place to add, about the Sparrow-class fighters being 'notoriously flightly and hard to control, but enjoying a reputation for being remarkably hard to bring down', stuff like that.
But, still, I enjoyed writing this one. Scorch is quite a change from Alfrior, even from Jamie, and it's fun to write for a total loose cannon.
I was going for a sort of Descent Freespace + Battlestar Galactica sort of feel for this one, while still adding my own twist to it, in this case, battle mecha. :)
If you're interested to see the material I was working from, go to www.s8.org and look in the Ask Greg archives for the "Gargoyles 2198" topic. Essentially, Thunder Child would take off from the premise, somewhat modified (that Earth would have a fleet, something I can't see as at all unreasonable), but go its own separate way. Interstellar travel takes a LONG time at sub-light speed, so it's probably safe to say that G2198 would be over and done with before the second story of Thunder Child started. Still, you might be interested to find out what was going through my mind while I was formulating this scenario.
P.S. With my conceit of trying to visualize the stories as being for a television series... I pity the poor animators that would try to bring the battle to life. It'd almost certainly have to be CG, but STILL.

So It Begins...
Posted 18 years agoThe first part of my three-parter is ready... A few of my previous stories were de facto two-parters (In Harm's Way/Behind the Eight-Ball and Hammer & Stone/Consequences, IMO), but this one is specifically being written that way.
I've had this concept planned out as the 'season finale' since about chapter 6 or 7 of "A Voice...", honestly. It was just a matter of putting everything into play for it, first.
Time travel, even relatively tame time travel such as this, is always fun, and I think I've hit upon at least a reasonably uncommon method of facilitating it. Thanks to
eightane for some pieces of advice! There's one part of the sequence that was written specifically off of his information.
While I said I'd had this planned, there was still much of it that came entirely on the fly, from my research. The identity of the Knight, for instance. All I'd known until a few days ago was that he was an Outlander, and probably an exile or traveler. I never *guessed* that he'd be who he actually was, yet it fits so well that I can't say no.

Differences...?
Posted 18 years agoAnyone notice anything different about my submissions? Hit refresh if you don't see what I'm talking about. Lemme know what you think!
Goliath sighting...?
Posted 18 years agoI was flipping through the channels a little bit, earlier, and ran across a History Channel show, "In the Footsteps of Jesus". NOT the sort of thing I usually watch. But, I coulda sworn the narrator sounded really familiar, so I listened in. Turns out Keith David, the voice of Goliath, was doing the narrating for it! And, I might add, he did a great job. I don't know if it'll be on again or anything, but I thought I'd mention it.
Hammer & Stone
Posted 18 years agoI finally brought in the Quarrymen, rather than just hinting at them, as the title suggests. I hope there's some interesting plot twists and turns of phrase in this one, plus we get to revisit some old friends once more.
Additionally, some new materials are up in the Scraps section. Take a look, if you get a little time.

Severed Thread
Posted 18 years agoThe next episode is ready to go. I'm curious as to how this one would read to someone who wasn't a fan of the original show, if any of you are reading this series, I'd like to know.
Additionally, I'd like to plug http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/ The Gargoyles Saga, a fan-made continuation of the original series (i.e. involving the show's characters, set in the late 90's, etc). I recently discovered it, and there's some really good material there.

Behind the Eight-Ball
Posted 18 years agoMy humble attempt at a light detective story is now available. Some interesting formatting, switching between perspectives several times. Additionally, the updated Dramatis Personae is available, covering the newly introduced characters.
Many thanks to
wrensilverfox for the use of his character!
Many thanks to

In Harm's Way
Posted 18 years agoThird story is uploaded, as well as a character reference in the scraps section. Should be plenty of action in this one, though that's not all there is to it...
Hunter/Hunted
Posted 18 years agoSecond story is uploaded, hopefully there's some good bits in there. I liked it, but I'm not exactly an impartial observer, heh.
wrensilverfox, our collaboration will be the very next episode!

First one in the can!
Posted 18 years agoAnd the introduction episode is *done*. All 10 files are synchronized with my personal versions as of today; the first two chapters have a significant change in formatting, the others just have minor bits of polishing.
Thank you all for reading my story, and for the kind comments!
Keep a watch out for the next story. :)

Three More Chapters..
Posted 18 years agoI think I'm going to try and wrap up "A Voice..." in three more chapters, for a grand total of ten. Seems like a nice round number, and that also seems to be about how much material I have for this story. But this is not the end, just an end, don't worry.
Title Change
Posted 18 years agoFinally figured out what I wanted to call the opener for Shadowdancer, so I changed the story titles from Shadowdancer to "A Voice From The Other World..." Apologies if this causes any confusion.:)
