Character Development & Revisions
Posted 12 years agoGenerally when I'm bored I find that I tend to go back and revise characters and concepts that I have laying around and thinking of new creative ways I can utilize them. I typically tend to focus on the characters I haven't used in a while or never really established to begin with but occasionally I'll go back to one I've spent a great deal of time developing and change a few details for creative purposes. This can range anywhere from picking out a new name or occupation, which tends to be the most common, to a complete overhaul of the character in question. Thus how one day Rush could go from being a pointless toonish knock-off of my cynicism to a dagger throwing private eye with his own detective agency.
This practice seems pretty standard as I tend to see it used in comics, games, movies, etc quite a bit. The sole member of an alien race suddenly finding himself surrounded by other members of his kind, the astronaut learning one of his parents was an alien, finding out the dead speedster didn't become one with the Force. The list goes on.
To me character development tends to be a bit more difficult since it implies not only a great deal more detail but devoting a certain of time deciding on what makes each individual character tick. I find that choosing interest and quirks can drastically influence what kind of personality I might be aiming for, either aiding or conflicting with the concept I have in mind until ultimate I either settle on a compromise or I just up and discard the concept altogether. I can't begin to go into how much time and effort I've put into revising Damian in a way that would satisfy me only to shelve whatever concept I have set aside and move on to another character.
That being said though I'm kinda curious to hear how other people have deal with the idea of character development and revisions?

Remembering a friend and helping another
Posted 12 years agoA year ago today marks the day I lost one of the dearest things in my life, it's been one year since we had to put Ash down and it's still by far one of the worst experiences of my life. I still think about him quite a bit, particularly this past month. I remember how I used to come home sleeping in the pile of swag left on my bed and how we'll he'd trained my brother to get him his daily ration of three to four treats just for staring at him and being cute. There are so many things I miss about him, the feeling of his fur beneath my hand, the weight of his body in my lap, his little doggy kisses and the way he used to run frantically around the house when we played with him. Most of all I miss how he was always there. I miss my dog.
Parents are still firmly opposed to getting anymore pets, evidently mom in particular doesn't want to go through the experience of growing attached to anything that she'll outlive that isn't a person and dad has decided he isn't going to overrule her decision. Still plan on pestering them about it until they cave but that could still be a long time coming given the nature of my family.
In other news,
zeemonster, a really good friend of mine from way back before I even knew about this fandom, is having trouble getting her dog back stateside and could use some help paying the airfare so her family can get him back. You can read the whole story on the link below.

Posted 12 years agoGetting to that point where I'm close to being an old fart, 27 as of yesterday. Parents ambushed me with a trip to San Antonio friday to celebrate out of the blue since I was going to be working, spent the day at Sea World which was awesome since there weren't all that many people there so we got to hit up all the rides and exhibits minus the X hour wait. Day concluded with salmon and crab for dinner at Joe's Crab Shack on the way home.
Spent most of yesterday at work which was fine outside of one customer who decided to make himself a problem asking for help and then disappearing on me every time I went looking for him, I can't help you if I can't find you old man! Don't get pissed off at me because you can't stay in one place! Asides that had a fairly decent day, got home and bailed my party out of few problems as my cleric in our weekly Pathfinder session and then ended the day watching World War Z with my dad.
I would like to thank everyone that wished me happy birthday, really appreciate it =3

Cheetahjab, has recently been accused of a crime he didn't commit, has been held already a few hours by police, and is now in need of some very expensive lawyers he can't possibly afford. If you can spare some time, give his journal a read https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=92547 it explains things much better.
He was reluctant to do so, but he is in need of donations at the moment, so if any of you have anything you could spare for him right now, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx for reading.

RIP Abuela
Posted 12 years agomy grandmother passed away earlier today, it wasn't entirely unexpected, she suffered from Alzheimers and it had been pretty bad for the last few years to the point that she needed a feeding tube. Her body started failing last week but by that point her mind had been pretty much gone for a few years, really feels like the only thing we were keeping alive was her body. Not really grieving about it to be honest, came to terms with what was happening to her years ago before most of my immediate family outside of my dad. Mom flew out to Florida like Tuesday to be with her until the end, I know she's pretty messed up at the moment. I know that there was nothing we could do for her outside of making her comfortable and I'm glad that she's at peace with my grandfather again. Will be flying out to Puerto Rico sometime later this week for the funeral so I won't be around during that time, likely be only a week though since dad and I can't afford to take any longer off work.
I will miss my grandmother, but I'm glad that I thought to say a prayer for her a few hours before my mom called to tell me that she had passed away.

Please Help!? Desperate!
Posted 13 years agoRight so here's the long and short of it.
Due to a slight mix up and some miscommunication by both myself and the state I now owe a grand total of $9566 to the state, tried to appeal the matter but it fell through and now they're asking for two payments of $600 every month or face a minimum of 5 years jail time. As if things weren't bad enough I'm still in the process of paying off a $2000 credit card bill from last year, normally this wouldn't be a problem but seeing as I haven't been getting any hours at work since last year and that no place seems interested in hiring me. I literally have just a little over $300 in the bank so I can't even afford to cover even half of the first $600 bill these people are asking me for.
My parents are going to try to help me pay off everything but honestly they dont' have the money to be giving me $1200+ every month. So that brings me to the point of this particular journal, normally I hate to ask for money but at this point I think it's safe to say that I'm pretty desperate.
Any cash would be greatly appreciated, alternatively if you spread the word that would be helpful to.
Please send money to draeg_of_narnia[at]yahoo.com
[edit] because people seem to think this is something I can fight, my situation deals with me being overpaid by unemployment and them saying I committed fraud. Already filed an appeal and it didn't pan out, it was an honest mistake on my part so in this case the state is actually in the right. To all those that have sent money and pimped my journal I thank you.

Posted 13 years agoPut my dog down today.
His health had been on the decline for a while with anemia and kidney failure were the chief causes, ulcer in his stomach made it next to impossible to hold anything down without medication and severely changing his diet and even then only just. All his energy just up and vanished, he seemed to have trouble just getting up by himself oppose to not to long ago when he would vault up onto our beds. Can't say that we didn't see it coming, he was just about to turn 14 in a few days so needless to say he was old.
we brought him to the vet for a follow up appointment and to check his bloodwork to see if he was improving, he wasn't and the vet told us he was very likely in pain and suffering. Brother and I called our parents to discuss our options, it was jointly decided that we should put him down instead of let him linger on and see how long he would last. Mom left work to come be there with him when he passed along with my brother and me, by the time the vet pulled the needle out he was gone. We're all pretty broken up about it.
Shitastic way to start out the new year.

spunky is in quite a panic, and so would you be, if they told you they were removing your favorite character from the game series that carries his name! That's right, they are planning to take the Professor out of the Professor Layton games!
That's like...taking Mario out of Super Mario...or Sonic out of Sonic the Hedgehog!
That ain't right!
So she's started a petition, which you can view here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/573/.....-on-professor/
(Don't worry - it's one of the easiest petitions I've ever signed - you don't have to sign up or NOTHIN')
She's offering rewards for signatures, and you can read about that on her journal here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3809797/
(In short, if the petition makes its goal of 1000 sigs, she's going to chose three names from the list, raffle-style, and do artwork for the winners!
SO GET SIGNING! GO, GO!

Pixie dust from a fairy, or speed from a transvestite
Posted 13 years agoGreetings from Puerto Rico!
Quite literally took the plunge today, and by that I mean I decided to do something stupid that I thought I'd never do. I jumped off a waterfall.
Wasn't anything major and probably wasn't all that impressive but for me it was perhaps one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever done. It took a lot of psychological preparation, and by that I mean standing there gauging whether I could clear the alloted distance and debating if it was worth it. Piece of advice, if the natives are shouting and waving their arms frantically it probably means you're doing something wrong.
In the end I just said a quick prayer and jumped.
It. Was. AWESOME!
Granted I still nearly had a heart attack on the way down and spent the next few hours recovering from what we speculate was either shock or mild concussion but it was still easily one of the most exhiliarating experiences I've ever done.
Regrettably my family lost track of me before I jumped so I don't have any pictures of this particular event, just a story in which I will forever be know as, as my dad put it, "That idiot who jumped too close to the rocks."

Help the Kickstarter Project
Posted 13 years ago
lizardbeth is trying to work up the money for some really awesome shirts she's designed following the theme of her webcomic "Broken Plot Device". She's whipped up a nifty little system to pay to get this project off the ground but she needs some help fiancing everything, by making a pledge you can help ensure these shirts make it to print AND have the possibility of scoring some other neat stuff including but not limited to the next issue of her BPD book series and a sketch of your choosing. If you're interested in making a pledge or just want to learn more about the project you can find out about it here.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....hirt-preorders
Remember guys, these shirts do NOT get printed if the Kickstarter goal isn't met by march 7th! Even those who have pledged already will be refunded if I don't earn enough. So if you want a shirt but are waiting to get them later, there may not BE a later! Even if you can't afford a shirt, even $5 gets you a full set of postcards and brings us closer to the goal. Any assistance is greatly appreciated! ^_^
Help paying for college
Posted 14 years ago
xianjaguar's student loans were recently repealed and now she needs money to pay off her tuition for college this year. If you're going to FC (or are already there) she's going to be selling prints of her work for around $5, if you want to help her out be sure to pick some up when you stop by her booth or you could look out for her work in the art show which I hear is really good this year. Given that she's planning on discontinuing certain prints when she get's back now would be the best time to grab them while they're available, likewise you could probably hit her up on her FA page when she get's back.I believe
luircin is accepting discount commission for 5-6 pages stories to help payoff Xian's tuition, just tell him that I sent you and he'll set you up. Don't know how long he'll be doing this so I highly reccomend getting them now.Back from Chicago
Posted 14 years agoWell this is about a day late but finally decided to get around to this.
Finally back home from visiting family in Chicago, got to admit this was probably one of our more enjoyable trips as a family. It was far less stressful then visiting the island (though it still had it's fair share *coughmomcough*) and the plane ride was mercifully short for a change. I actually had a lot fo fun hanging out with my cousins and driving around Chicago on the days we actually went out, regrettably we didnt' get the chance to visit any of the museums or aquariums we talked about going to though that couldn't really be helped so I'm not too bummed about it. We spent the week at one of my many cousin's places where my brother and I noticed a few disturbing, but humorous similiarities between our family and theirs. Found out that pretty much everyone on that side of the family is a health nut and practices some form of martial arts (Jujitsu appearing to be the most popular), one of my cousins was actually kind enough to show me so basic maneuvers for ground fighting. All in all that was actually pretty fun despite him nearly slamming my face into the floormat and cracking my back, needless to say I think he had a little too much fun using his dad for a practice dummy. Got roped into DMing a session of Pathfinder while we were over there, was definately a fun experience despite taking 8 or so hours to roll up the necessary characters to play the game but that was unavoidable.
Christmas eve was spent at another cousin's house, one that I must point out was quite beautiful with an impressive fireplace that we were all quick to abuse as we sat around watching Jim Carry play the Grinch, sipping hot coco, roasting marshmellows, and going to town on pretzel sticks dunked in nutella (I happily report that I got one of my cousins hooked XD). The next few days my cousins took turn barbacuing a number of things in their garage, I'm talking in a pot over a fire, which i have to say made for some damn fine eating. Was a lot of fun to go out in the garage with them and crack jokes with them and my dad, got a few interesting life lessons from a few of my older relatives while I was out there. Spent New Years Eve with my dad and his cousin watching the first season of Game of Thrones on their computer and munching on a bucket of chedder popcorn, all in all a rather enjoyable way to spend the evening
We visited the Chicago Zoo the day before we shipped out, it was AMAZING! There were a few animals that had been relocated due to the cold weather that we weren't able to see (the polar bear was one of them oddly enough) but asides from that most of the animals were in their exhibits, a lot of them were even right next to the glass in their enclosures so I was able to get a real close look at them and some great pictures. Brother was psyched over seeing his favorite animal the jaguar actively moving around it's enclosure. However I think my favorite exhibits had to be between the grey wolves and the African wild dog they had roaming around, both of which I've always wanted to see. About the only way things could have gotten better would have been if the otters had been in their enclosure and I had seen a civet.
About the only thing I'm really bummed about is the fact that it didn't snow the entire time we were visiting until like an hour before we were supposed to be heading to the airport, according to what we heard on the news they really got hit which is a drag since I was really looking forward to having a snowball fight with my family. The flight back could have gone a little better too given that the stewardest woke me up practically shouting over the loudspeaker for everyone to sit in their seats "no exceptions", crazy chick had everyone thinking we were goign to crash when we hit a little turbulance. All in all though it was a fun trip and I look forward to going back again someday =3
