RIP Odie
General | Posted 15 years agoLast night while I was traveling back home from a weekend at the Kansas State Fair, my parents called with some bad news. My cat, Odie, passed away yesterday in the early evening hours. She was in our family for a good 10+ years and will be missed. Rest In Peace, Odie. *tries to hold back his tears*
I wrecked my car
General | Posted 15 years agoBut I'm doing alright, apart from some bruises and being generally stiff. Yesterday, when I was on my way to Yankton to get some food, I rear-ended a pickup that was stopped on the highway. At 50 mph. Still don't have a clear idea as to why the pickup was at a COMPLETE stop on the highway. But, thanks to my seatbelt and the airbag, I survived the worst accident I've ever had in my life. My car has a 95% chance of being totaled by the insurance company. So, now I start the process of finding a new car again. Joy.
Want to win a free fursuit head!?! :D

General | Posted 15 years agoMy life was changed forever. Before this date, back in 2000, I was a fairly innocent and church-going person. On June 25th, however, I was a bit of a fan of the show "Road Rovers" and wanted to see if I could find any art related to the show. Little did I know at the time that I would discover a unique and interesting group of people known as furries. I loved the pics that I found, which was simply fan art of the characters of that show. Then I saw pictures other people had drawn of themselves as a canine standing on two feet. In fact, one of the artists is on FA right now. His name is
fluffypup. His art helped turn me into a furry. Within a year, I had become completely immersed in the furry fandom. I even drew my very first character out, which can be found here! This character would not be used until early 2009, when he was brought back from the dead as Ty Husky. I started to form a dragon character almost 1 month later, and came up with DragonKid. At first, he was just green and blue, then as the years progressed, I started adding things to him to make him more unique. I added the tail spade and the spikes along his back.
This is what I've seen over the past ten years:
1. I remember looking for art on Yerf, then turned to VCL, which probably started my corruption phase.
2. I've seen the furry movement go from Furnation, then Sheezy Art, then Y-Gallery. After Y-Gallery banned Anthro art (so to speak), I saw the creation of Fur Affinity and was even in the beta for it.
3. I've seen more FA crashes than I want to remember. This includes the one in summer of 2005, in which the site was offline for a few months.
4. I remember Alkora having two other names, first Byakko Wolf then Jheryn Lightfoot.
5. I remember getting jealous that people I knew online were going to Anthrocon and I couldn't go. I still am this way somewhat today, but it's not as bad.
6. I remember going to my first furry convention, which was Oklacon 2008. I went to Oklacon 2009 and plan on attending this year as well.
7. FURRY DRAMA! :D
8. Watching my mind get more and more corrupted with each passing day. I thank the fandom for that mostly, but Oklacon was the start of an accelerated corruption, which can be seen just by watching my videos on Youtube. My friends Harvest the Husky and Graystone Husky are also to blame for this. :P
9. And lastly, I remember being able to somehow keep this entire lifestyle of mine secret from every friend and family member! I did not tell my parents and brother about being a furry until October 2008, when I knew I would have to explain why I was going to Oklahoma for Oklacon for a few days. As of right now, they mostly don't have an issue with it, which is good.
There's much more than what is listed above, but that's all I could remember off the top of my head. I went from an innocent individual to having a corrupt mind so far in the hole, that it's pointless to dig out of it. So I just want to thank everyone for being my friend from the very beginning and I plan on staying in this fandom, regardless of what happens next.

General | Posted 15 years agoIn this transition to Windows 7 (which is almost complete), I've discovered an interesting and odd thing going on. I still have files on my old hard drives and every attempt to access them has done a very weird thing to my internet. My DSL modem resets itself when I attempt to access files on my old drives. I never had this problem before and it just started happening. Anybody have some suggestions?
Windows 7 Migration
General | Posted 15 years agoI'm currently undergoing a Windows 7 transition from Windows Vista. It'll hopefully be a transition from 32-bit to 64-bit as well. The only thing that would make that second part not happen is my motherboard, which is an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe. It's a nice board, however, I've read mixed reports on it correctly working with 64-bit Windows 7. Apparently the latest BIOS update makes it possible, but I won't know that officially until tomorrow. Here's the process in which I will be/am currently taking:
1. Update BIOS from version 2302 to the latest version of 3001.
2. Transfer all of my data from my tiny 250 GB drive to the new 1 TB drive. First by USB, then if that doesn't work, by directly plugging it into a spare SATA port.
3. Install my new hard drives. The boot drive is a 500 GB drive and all my data (pics, music, vids, etc.) will be on the 1 TB drive.
4. Install Windows 7 Professional x64. If that fails, then install Windows 7 Professional x86.
As of this post, step 1 was completed successfully after a bit of frustration. Step 2 is currently in progress, via a direct connection as USB was killing my internet connection in very odd ways. Wish me luck!

New Car
General | Posted 16 years agoIt was bound to happen and it did. I no longer have my 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. It served me well during the rest of my high school and all of my college days. It managed to survive being driven all around Hutchinson, Kansas, (and then Ulysses, Kansas) while I was working for Pizza Hut. It even managed to survive a Northeast Nebraskan winter! When we bought it in June 2003, there were 116,000 miles on it. I put an additional 76,000 miles on it, bringing the total amount to 192,000 miles.
On this past Friday, the 27th, I traded it in for a 2005 Ford Escape XLS. It was nice to have a small car for the past 6.5 years, but I was running out of room for things, mostly while traveling. I now have a bigger vehicle that gets just as good of gas mileage as my Pontiac, which is nice. Now I'm fulfilling the American dream by adding to my already existing debt (student loans) with a car payment. Cost of the new car: $7000 after a $500 trade-in. Suggested Retail Value: $8,615 (as of this morning at about 8:45 AM). It just past the 94,000 mile mark last night. Yay for car payments for the next 5 years...

Forgot to post an update
General | Posted 16 years agoI need something here to push that last journal off of my front page, so here is an update that I forgot to post. On Monday evening, Harvest called me and said that his dad had just bailed him out and wanted to meet up with me. Him and his dad met up with me half-way, and then I took him back to my place. So, he is alright. He thanks you all for worrying about him. Later.
Last night was interesting...
General | Posted 16 years agoI did not want to spend last night the way it turned out. For everybody that met
harvestthehusky at Oklacon, it might awhile before he can get back online. Here's the story:
Last night, I took him to O'Neill, Nebraska, so that he could see some family. I dropped him off at the designated location, and then I went to meet a new fur. Fast forward a few hours later, and Harvest came out to where we were at and wanted to go for a ride in this other fur's Honda S2000... At street-racing speeds. So, they went out to the edge of town and raced it for a couple of minutes, while I stayed a ways behind. We parked off to the side of the road, and I didn't even realize that I had parked in the middle of a drive-way. Harvest and I switched places, but as he got in my car, a deputy pulled up and moved it forward to get it out of the way. I think the officer assumed that it was his car and asked him to get out of the vehicle. I heard the officer ask him if he had his license on him, and Harvest said "No." That was enough to arrest him. So as of right now, he is sitting in the O'Neill jail, awaiting arraignment. There is a very high possibility that it'll be awhile before he can get back in touch with his friends and family. He has screwed himself in more ways than one.

Comfy Feet
General | Posted 16 years agoThis is a plug for a company that is here in my town. They are called Comfy Feet and they sell slippers, mostly of NFL, NBA, or NCAA teams. But I happened to notice that they also sell Animal slippers. I figured that since this is a furry community and these are furry-ish slippers, that I would give them a plug. Get your Animal slippers here: http://comfyfeet.biz/sub-category.asp?CID=354 !
This Weekend
General | Posted 16 years agoTo everybody who is either already at Anthrocon or is going to it, have a great and wonderful weekend and 4th of July! I will not be able to attend this year (due to lack of funds). But my weekend is not all lost as I will be heading home to blow stuff up! :D Have a great weekend everyone!

General | Posted 16 years ago...I discovered furry. And it all stems from watching the show "Road Rovers" on Cartoon Network. I was searching for fanart and came across some furry art. It was even clean! Over time, I got more interested in the art and sometime later, joined the fandom. And I'm glad I did, too! It's had it's ups and downs, but for the most part, it has been worth it. I've made more friends online than I ever did in real life. Thanks everyone!
A Lesson Learned
General | Posted 16 years agoI learned a valuable lesson today: Don't Drive In A BLIZZARD! Earlier today, I went to Sioux City (about 50 miles away) and did some shopping. After I got some groceries, I headed home. Currently, we are under a blizzard warning, so I took my time getting back home. I was about 10 miles from home when I hit an icy patch on the road (going about 20-25 mph), side into the opposite lane, and was unable to correct it. I slide down into the ditch maybe 50 feet. Somebody thankfully saw me and tried to help, but that made things worse. I ended up about 100 feet off of the road. The ditch was at a 45 degree angle, so at least it wasn't a drop-off. Here's where my car currently sits: CLICK HERE! Needless to say, I'm thankful that it just slid down and didn't roll or anything like that. I called the county police and a cop picked me up and took me home. But because I need my car for work, I'm hoping I can call the person the cop told me to call. If not tomorrow, then mostly likely Monday, which will make getting to work a bitch.
Right now, I'm a little shaken, so I really need some hugs. Thanks.

Twitter Accounts
General | Posted 17 years agoI now have 2 Twitter accounts. Why, you ask? Because one is of my everyday life ( http://twitter.com/dragonkid ) and the other is of my risky personality ( http://twitter.com/TyHusky ). Why does my personality have a twitter, you ask? So that I can post updates for all of my furry friends. It's also so I can post updates to things that tend to put me in dangerous situations (like storm chasing and other things). So if you get a follow alert from TyHusky, it's just me (DragonKid). Everybody reading this is more than welcome to follow him as well, but please be advised that the updates are protected. That is all for now.

Windows 7 Beta
General | Posted 17 years agoI'm running the 32-bit beta of Windows 7 right now under VMware with the following specs:
1 GB memory
24 GB hard drive space
2 cores from my quad core
And it's running it with no issues! It is extremely smooth. I don't get the Aero effects, because it's a virtual machine, and vm graphics tend to really suck. Now it's time to do the actual beta testing...

And it's running it with no issues! It is extremely smooth. I don't get the Aero effects, because it's a virtual machine, and vm graphics tend to really suck. Now it's time to do the actual beta testing...
I am amazed
General | Posted 17 years agoI never even thought that this would happen: One of my videos that I shot at Oklacon last year just hit 1,000 views. I am stunned. This is the video in question:
Furries + Nerf Rockets = Fun!
This was mostly done without me advertising the video itself (minus 1 post I made). The only person that I know of that did show it off on his LiveJournal, was
jase_antheos . I don't know if it has to do with the name of it or what, but I'm amazed it to this number of views this fast. So all I have to really say is this: Thanks for all the views!

Merry Christmas!
General | Posted 17 years agoI hope that you all have a good Christmas today! I have to spend it traveling home to my family, but the upshot is that my brother has to wait to open his gifts until I get home. ^^ I'll be traveling back up on Sunday. See you all later!
I has a new icon!
General | Posted 17 years agoAnd I even made it! It's called a Biopaw. If anyone wants one, let me know.
Move Status: Successful
General | Posted 17 years agoI finished moving to my new home in Hartington, Nebraska @ about 11:30 am Central Time. I even have internet, cable, and a landline! The internet speed isn't really fast, but it's ~1.5 Mbps, and I can upgrade it. I only have 50 cable channels, tho.... My parents and brother decided to go to Yankton, South Dakota, to see the new James Bond film. I stayed behind because I'm not a big movie person, plus I don't like paying $8 just to get in and another $15 for snacks.
So, if there are any furs nearby, send me a note!
