Avengers SHIELD Experience - The STATION
Posted 11 years agoIt's almost time to begin your training as a SHIELD agent! If you're in NYC check out this cool thing I helped build!

Just some articles and pictures about the Avengers STATION I did lighting for.
Anything glowing (that isn't an LCD display screen) I probably wired or soldered or ran LEDs for. I spent an intimate few days with that giant conference table!

work schedule update & ESG 2014
Posted 11 years agoI recently got hired on as a electrician/lighting tech for an awesome project that will be debuted in New York at the end of May!
Check out a little teaser here: Train to become a SHIELD agent in NYC!
http://marvel.com/news/live_events/.....engers_station.
The schedule is pretty crazy, 12 hr shifts and a long commute.
But to have my name attached to an Avengers project is pretty awesome!
The next week should be a shorter one, 40 hrs instead of 60+, so I hope to have time to get a few last minute Elliott's projects finished up!
I'm bringing two cats (& a dragon!) to Elliotts, so if you see
or me, make sure you say hi! :)

Posted 12 years agoBecause I've been asked: Thanks for asking but No I'm not open for new commissions at this time!
I have a few more upcoming badges from RF in the works and just two dolls to finish my queue. My day job workload makes my commission openings rare, I pretty much only open up as convention exclusives. I'm artificially increasing the rarity of my work, or something. :3
But thanks to everyone saying nice things/wanting to buy my art. Y'all are too sweet. :)

back from Rainfurrest!
Posted 12 years agoFinally, back in the studio after a great week in Washington! Thank you to everyone who came by, hung out, and just made our visit north so awesome! I met so many people, thank you guys for being so friendly and sweet! :)
I have some awesome artwork to draw up, lots of sewing to do, emails to respond to, and so much laundry. That's the mark of a good holiday!
has uploaded a few pictures from our trip as well.
We only costumed a few times, so there are just a few rare pictures of our shenanigans!
But RF was really enjoyable, and I think we'll be back next year if we don't have any schedule conflicts.
I might be alone in my love of all that Seattle rain, but it was sure great!

Posted 12 years agoSaberfire and I will be there!
We're bringing lots of suits for a rollicking good time! Look out for Dracofire and Bite, Lady Kitty & Dapper Fox (no photo because he's a surprise!). If you see us plz to be giving hugs and alcohol! :)
We're also going to be staying in Seattle for a little extra touristing, which is gonna be fun! I've never visited the northwest before, so I've got lots on my to-do list. Yay!

Anyone else use instagram?
Trying to update progress pictures more regularly, using twitter and instagram!

I love seeing the 'behind the scenes' of other people's work, and sometimes it's easier to share stuff without having to think about uploading and writing witty descriptions and all that.
Anyone else have an instagram account I should follow? :)

shop update n' stuff
Posted 12 years agoCritters are starting to take shape in the studio; getting old projects cut out and put together with our new industrial sewing machine. I was holding off sewing a lot of things till we could replace our workhorse and I'm so glad I did.
Sewing with a proper machine takes all the 'work' out of it, it cuts down on the time I spent just fighting getting the fabric under the needle. What a difference the proper tools make!
I wish I had a local sewing group or something to lean on when feeling uninspired or stumped with plush making. There's so much trial and error, sometimes remaking one component four or five times before it looks correct is so discouraging... So far I've only found quilting guilds or fashion sewing groups nearby. Where are all the doll makers hiding?? :3
We took a working holiday to attend NAB in Vegas, which was super productive and totally exhausting. I'm glad furry cons haven't gotten to the point of 100K+ attendees and vendor halls that sprawl across multiple city blocks.

holiday
Posted 12 years agosaberfire & I are on holiday and won't be back in the studio till the 1st!
After such a hellish work schedule over the last few months, being able to kick back, visit some theme parks and just be lazy bums has been amazing. I've drawn more in the last week than in the last 12 months combined! We've done pin trading, guzzled down butterbeer, and eaten so much good food!
It's times like these I wish we lived closer to our friends, instead of way out in the Valley of LA. We leave Florida on the 26th, gonna miss all our Florida friends! :(

FWA 2013
Posted 12 years agoOmg, there aren't enough words. IT WAS GREAT! :D
We (
& I) flew out of LA early Thursday, got into Atlanta and went promptly to sleep in those fluffy Westin beds. So fluffeh!
Our roommates
fursuiting and
cloudpouncer showed up on Friday, and our room got so full of fursuits! Unfortunately Lacy was still super sick, so she didn't get to hang out much for the con. We took Nick to Metro Cafe so many times, that restaurant is fab!
Most of my con experience circled around prepping for the art show, shopping from some of the vendors I fangirl over, and being a big mess of anxiety for the Fursuit dance competition! So yeah, fun weekend! :3
I tried out for the dance competition on Saturday, in the brand new (to me!) fursuit I just bought on Friday! I was hella nervous, there are some ridiculously talented dancers in the fandom and just sitting in the audience of the try outs was stellar. RIDICULOUS TALENT UP IN HURR!
I was actually legit surprised I made it through to the show, just being picked to present in front of the con audience (as cheesy as it sounds) was such a huge compliment and honor! And scary! :D
I spent the rest of Saturday in a blur, most of it nauseous from stage fright! Hah! But everything went swimmingly, the community of dancers is just so supportive I had no idea! Here I was thinking I'd be the odd one out with my not-really-dancing routine, silly me! Gotta give all the love to all the contestants and finalists I met, such a great group.
I was doubly legit surprised I won Honorable mention (with a fellow glowy fur no less, hah!). Totally floored! :D
THANK YOU to everyone who came up and said such positive things after my performance & during the rest of the con! That's what truly made all the nervousness and stage fright worth it, I was absolutely dumbfounded with the love. LOVE YOU GUYS OMG!
I wanna see a whole flock of hoopers next year, you've got 12 months to practice! :)
We spent the rest of the weekend recovering, Sunday was chill and mostly picking up loose ends like my unsold art show submissions. Another surprise was meeting some super sweet and talented ladies in the Dealers Den on Sunday, and having them buy my two orphaned rat plushes! I'm super stoked they went to good homes, that's definitely a highlight.
I got some awesome schwag during the con, namely some beautifully decked out mask blanks from Kandorin (
keeatah is such a sweetheart!), a nicely furry shirt from
Keovi and the ultra talented
likeshine did me up a wicked badge for my new suit! There was a tonne of awesome merch at the den, I was tempted by so much!
Super thanks to the FWA volunteers and organizers, we had a great con. I will definitely be back next year, even if the elevators are all busted! :D

Certainly no more active there than I am anywhere else, but hey! Next time FA crashes or if Livejournal dies more than it already has, I can be found. :3

work schedule & FWA
Posted 12 years agosaberfire & I are still working in Los Angeles, and while the traffic sucks the SoCal winter was pretty nice! Trees are already starting to bloom in our shop lot, and the nights are almost tshirt weather again. Pretty awesome.
We're currently finishing up a fairly huge studio project, and we're so close to the finish line I can almost taste it.
Soon there will be no more 150hr work weeks. No more living off of microwavable meals and coffee. We'll be able to actually go outside during the day, and I'll paint my nails! Exciting stuff. :3
We've booked our tickets to FWA & Florida to celebrate, so look for us on the east coast! Super jazzed for that, I'm going to be in dire need of fursuit shenanigans and some früfrü drinks with little umbrellas. And Disneyworld!

end of 2012 update!
Posted 13 years agoSorry this account has been so quiet!! 2012 has been an amazing year!
Much love to everyone who's made it awesome for my husband saberfire & I, we really are a lucky pair. We've accomplished some really cool stuff, and much of it wouldn't be possible without y'all!
I hope to find time to post more of our work and adventures, so here's to hoping 2013 is just as great! :)

Posted 13 years agoI've been accused of being remiss when it comes to sharing new artwork/costumes, so I'm going to try and fix that!
I don't use my

So... hello! Looking forward to getting back in the swing of things, and being a little more 'available' online.
Any questions/comments feel free to ask! phar@dragonsquared.com
