Mostly Okay
Posted 5 months agoIt's been awhile, a long break.... Much longer than I wanted to take honestly, but I'm feeling like myself again. Lately I've been struggling with anxiety on top of the usual depression, and a big snag in my health coverage that made it really hard to get treatment after getting the diagnosis. It sucks... But I think things are finally on the right track again.
I feel like lately a lot of us are struggling with a sense of gloom and worry lately... Maybe it's just something I notice more when I'm in a bad place myself. But regardless, I'm hoping that we can all keep working on feeling better together! I look forward to making and posting more art again, come what may. Even when my doubts have me in a stranglehold, I think I always come back to enjoying creativity. But even though creativity is something important to me that I enjoy, it's also not the only thing I have. One thing that was bothering me a lot was the fear that I had lost my spark, my drive to make things. But... I don't think that's the case. It just went out for a little while.
If this little post can offer you anything, I hope that it's a reminder that it's good to value yourself for more than just one trait. Be a little more proud of yourself! There's more than just one thing about you to be proud of; you just gotta give yourself some credit once in awhile

Not Very Okay
Posted 10 months agoBeen struggling lately with emotional health. Working on art has been impossible lately, due mostly to depression and a fair bit of irl busy stuff. I wanted to finish everything on my WIP docket by november, but I don't think I can. I can barely bring myself to log on to discord or check personal messages anymore, on any site. I'll be taking a little bit more of a break to sort myself out, but please know I will be back and I'll be drawing my heart out again when I have the heart to give. I'm really, truly sorry that I'm like this. I often wish I was someone else, just because I feel like that'd make me more reliable and consistent; but wishes like that come from a place of despair rather than a place of useful self-reflection. Just because I feel it doesn't mean it's true. Working with my mental health is a fucking chore sometimes... But, it's a chore I gotta keep doing.

Grief Hiatus
Posted a year agoOne of our cats just passed away very suddenly this evening, and Zel and I need some time to grieve. It was a completely normal day, but he had a stroke and there was nothing the emergency vet could do. He meant so much to us, and his passing was so sudden that it's been a really painful shock. Speaking just for myselfI feel like I've lost a limb--I practically mothered him from 2 weeks old. Zel has known him from just about the same amount of time, and we raised him together. it's really not fair... but that's life sometimes. Not fair, but we keep going anyway.
In any case... I'll be back as soon as I can. Either art will help me cope, or I'll need some time alone to grieve. We'll just have to see what happens.

Next Sets of Dailies
Posted a year agoHey folks! Here's just a quick rundown of my upcoming plans regarding dailies. I like to keep things somewhat flexible so this lineup isn't set in stone, but here's what i'm cooking with:

Club Kobold: set of 3-5 bar-themed kobold girls. 3 are sketched.
Planetary Magic: set of 9 solar system themed magicians of different genders. might be all kobolds, might end up being varied fantasy species. One is sketched, he's a kobold.
Kob vs Gob: set of at least 4 kobold and goblin pairs competing at various contests. 8 designs total, none fully sketched yet.

Sea Creatures: set of 6 sea creatures of various sizes and genders. All are sketched.
Mario Gals: Creatures from/inspired by Paper Mario series. I have 12 sketched, but we'll see what I end up finishing.

Posted a year agoToday's daily will be postponed to tomorrow. They're about half done, but I just can't finish today... too little energy. So there'll be D-D-DOUBLE DAILIES TOMORROW. a Daily Double if you're a Jeopardy enthusiast.

Tiny Update
Posted a year agoOk so... More (relatively minor) vet issues have come up... Soooo Dailies will be slightly further postponed. Fingers crossed, I'll be back to it by the weekend.
I also have some finished artwork to pose, but I keep sleeping through the day and not being online until midnight or later! alas... i try not to worry about what times i post TOO hard, but... idk it does seem to help posting things at decent hours!

Better Tidings
Posted a year agoFinally getting some of those tiny IRL fires put out. I'm feeling much better now, much more able to cope with my own life, and hoping to use this opportunity to find a fresh start. But, I just want to explain what happened and is still happening.
I discovered that one of our 6 cats had lumps on her stomach that I was afraid were cancer. She's only about 7 years old (middle-age in cat years), and has already had an unfair lot in life thanks to the negligence of her previous owners, and this scared the hell out of us. So after months of trying to deal with that (updating her vaccines, getting funds squared away, etc) we finally got her in to see a low cost vet. Now after a whole lot of poor communication, bad management, and general bullshit, we've all but completely depleted our bank account getting the cancer (confirmed by the vet) removed. Things are still a bit scary, but she's recovering well after the surgery.
On top of that... We've been having persistent car troubles for months now. We'd take it to a mechanic, they'd "fix" it, issue would come back. Now we're at the point of crossing our fingers and Zel trying his best to keep it running himself. We still don't know if it's fixed, and frankly we aren't hopeful. But god, I hope we don't have to take it to a mechanic again.
On top of THAT, my laptop--the one I primarily use for art and for business and for everything else--now has a failing harddrive. I don't know how much longer it will last, and I've been at my wit's end backing everything up and dreading the eventual cost of that delightful new development... Not to mention the ubiquitous struggles with american health insurance and the sharply rising cost of living. I've been so depressed as is, behind on everything and just not dealing well with anything. Then I got sick and lost my voice, and that was the final straw. I just shut down, gave up, thought that maybe I just wasn't cut out for art anymore. So much going wrong at once just broke me.
But that was then, and this is now.
I'm tired of being beaten down by life, tired of beating myself down further. Tired of orchestrating my own self defeat, and the false attempts to find happiness that are really just bad habits. I'm putting my best foot forward, and working to make things better. I'm going to change things. I'm going to reclaim my life.
I'm going to try out a few different streaming schedules on picarto and piczel respectively. It'll be sporadic to start, but once i find what works I'll keep it going. I'll also be working on my backlog of commissions. A lot of my regular customers have been really kind and patient, many have even commissioned me again to help pay for all this bullshit, and I have my plate full once again. But plates can be cleared, and I'm going to get things done.
Maybe it doesn't matter, sharing all of this... But it feels better, so I'm doing it. Take care of yourselves and keep your chins up.

Posted a year agoI think things are finally starting to turn around. I've been working my way back into drawing, back out of shame, and back into finishing up the art I owe. Things are looking up at last, and I hope they stay that way for a lot longer this time.

Dailies Coming to a Close
Posted 2 years agoI have decided to close the Drasus Dailies series at #45--to be posted on wednesday the 4th, 2:30pm EST-- to take a breather. All unsold Dailies will still be purchasable, but I will be taking a break from them until further notice! Thanks to everyone who purchased and looked at them, I appreciate it a lot! Playing Catchup
Posted 3 years agoBeen quiet for awhile... Not much worth saying. I've had things to post, but I just haven't... been able to bring myself to. It's been really weird.
But! My laptop situation is FINALLY resolved. I have a new computer, and I have the files off of my old computer. The subsequent tablet problem I had afterwards (pen malfunction) is also resolved... enough... Though the good old USPS lost the replacement pen because of course. At this point I'm just using the old tablet and that's good enough for me. Guess we'll see if the post office ever finds my damn pen, or if i have to order another one. :'>
Anyway... What this means! Now that I'm set back up on a decent laptop that can do things without issue, I'm considering starting streaming again. It's tough because these days I'm more active on discord, but I think that I'll be able to set myself up properly once I get motivated. Once I reorganize and set up, I'll also be able to properly sell the adoptables I've made again, maybe start making more, who knows
I'm happy to finally be posting again, there's quite a backlog to get through! Going to stagger things so it's not +1424235 subs in your inboxes all at once, hah... hope you guys will like what I've been working on, though. Also hope you're all doing well, or at least as well as you can be!

A lot of the Russian freelance artists are also in a bad position, and many of them trying to save up to leave the country. There's a lot of really talented and hardworking people out there who aren't in support of the war, people just doing their best to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. Tablet Malfunction
Posted 3 years agosoooo... my tablet pen is broken. Luckily it was still under warranty and a replacement is already on the way, but I'm unsure how long that will take. Trust nothing in the shipping crisis, haa...
I do have my old tablet as a backup, but fuck driver shenanigans. Already installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled about 5 times trying to fix and identify the problem, but another one won't kill me.
All this to say art is going slow, but I will be getting back to it.

Time for an Update
Posted 4 years agoAnd... Here we are. like clockwork, a 2-month check in!
Things are going ok. I'm having... Well, a lot of the same hangups and issues I usually do. Have a fair bit of artwork to share and post, but am feeling very shy/uncertain about putting them out there. I think that I'm starting to see part of the issue I'm having there is "perfectionism" anxiety, where I get so caught up in every tiny flaw and in making a good description that I just get paralyzed. I think I also am just withdrawing into myself a lot more as I get older, which I suppose isn't a bad thing, but it does change how I interact with "social media" and art sites.
There's also been some issues with real life (what's new), problems with family and so forth. Might be taking a weeklong trip away from home in December, but that's a later bridge to cross. I also STILL do not have my normal laptop back, which is honestly really frustrating; the COVID scarcity/shipping issues are likely what's causing this extreme holdup, but knowing a reason why doesn't make it less frustrating. Just glad I CAN still do art at this point... But damnit, I want my machine back. Don't know how many times I've said it now, it's insane.
That being said, I am going to try to get some art posted soon. There's a few pieces I've been making that are ready for posting, and a few older pieces I'm going to be updating... I think it'll be some neat stuff.

Computer Troubles (Update)
Posted 4 years agoFound out now that it will take at least til the end of the month for the repairs on the laptop to be done... Which sucks, but we can work with it. Thankfully our new PC is now up and running, and I've gotten myself a low end (but still lovely) backup laptop to tide me over. Zel and I have been a one laptop house for so long now, it's kind of surreal to actually have two working computers :'D Now I can still draw on the backup laptop--should definitely be able to draw on the desktop after installing the tablet drivers and such--but I've still got a lot of WIPs and things left on the laptop in for repairs.
In this time we have also moved out, cats and all. There's still lots of work to do on the unpacking front, but I think it's going to be alright despite the sudden chaos.
Once the dust settles and I have things a bit more figured out, there'll be some posts! Hoping this move will lead to a more consistent output of art in general.
