General | Posted 6 years agoJust a quick update, because I realize I sorta vanished and didn't actually explain why
I actually ended up having some annoying issues with motivation, self-doubt, and art block really early on in the month, and I quickly ran out of steam on the april noncon/dubcon theme... Even though I had a lot of support and quite a people were excited for the pics in the theme, I think a part of me was very nervous about actually working within the subject and potentially alienating/upsetting people. I also think I overloaded myself with ideas and excitement, and I felt stressed out and pressured even though I had no real goal or deadline to adhere too: I just wanted to pick a few ideas and run with them, try to teach myself to relax and just make stuff I like for the sake of it
ultimately, I ended up psyching myself out... Whether from one thing or the other. So, sorry to those of you who were disappointed I didn't really deliver on what I promised. But don't worry, I do still plan on utilizing some of the ideas I had... It's just a matter of spreading them out more evenly between my usual stuff, and taking it slowly! No sense in letting the big list of ideas to go to waste! I'm disappointed in myself for bitching out too early, but I do still think there's no reason that drawing the rougher stuff I like has to be confined to a single month
Anyway! I have managed to get through my artblock, and am slowly working on some stuff again! I'm going to open commissions as promised, but I will be trying to take it easy and keep my stress managed! It's been kind of a stressful month in general even without the art issues: I actually got bitten by an animal at work this week and needed to get a rabies vaccine. Protip: don't get bit by unvaccinated animals, it sucks. Fortunately I wasn't bit on my drawing hand, but it's still annoying and cat bites are just so prone to infection and annoying to heal. That, and I've got more rabies shots to get done later this week :^) aaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA

Upcoming Gallery Cleanup
General | Posted 6 years agoHey there folks! Just a forewarning that I'm finally gonna be pruning my gallery. A lot of finished things from 2 or more years ago will be moved to scraps, and a lot of the really old scraps will be deleted... Some finished things may also be deleted too, though I think I'll try to preserve most fully finished pieces (even if they are old and dreadful)
My gallery is just too big, and I don't think all of it needs to be there... Particularly scrappy junk WIPs, jokes, and progress shots of the same image. I may also delete some older commissioned pieces and other stuff I just don't really care for the quality on anymore. So if you wanted to go back and look at some old stuff, download or backup any of your favorites, preserve an old commission or request I did for you, now is the time to do it, just in case! (just be aware that not all old stuff is correctly tagged or marked with warnings: I've been on this site for just about a decade and I didn't warn about sensitive imagery back in the day)
I'll probably get to doing this sometime next week. Let's aim for wednesday-friday

In April i will work on a personal project and i wont open more, but come May, i might... We'll see! i might raise prices then too: i think the quality of my work has gone up, and the amount of effort I put in justifies that
I've reduced price on some of my currently available adopts, and i have a few stragglers from both the bargain bin, and my recent OTA post as well! These things are goin for real cheap... Also wow, new pokemon starters! Yes I have seen, yes I am excited, but Im not in a rush to draw them just yet! takin my time~ I have to say I'm STOKED about Sword and Shield though, and I'm dying to see more!! i hope it drowns me in medieval europe theming and gives me lots of new stuff to work on
Vie is still backburnered, tho i am considering bringing it back this summer, once our move into the new house is sorted out! my work schedule has normalized, tho with my obligations to the house and sorting out the details, I really cant make any promises until we're done moving and settling in. Im feeling less hard on myself over the story thus far, more positive, but... ah, you know. its a first serious documented attempt, and mistakes are bound to happen, and be regretted. just gotta keep on, move on, and enjoy the ride!
Commissions are progressing, though I was bitten by a cat at work yesterday and am taking it easy on my injured hand to be safe... Its a minor injury, but i figure there's no sense in tempting fate
in less shitty cat related news, we got another cat of our own <3 her adoption will be officiallly finalized soon! Her name is Blaize, or Blaze... No matter how you spell it, she's a precious little critter!! I might post a pic or two just for fun, tho i dont think i even posted any pictures of Stewie, our last new addition! either way, we're now 5 cats in, and that's plenty, ahahah

Im hoping to finish these all through the month of march, leaving april free for a project i have had in mind. but for now, i could use some funds, and am looking for some folks lookin for art! any of my usual options are on the table, just ask and id be happy to talk to you about your idea <3

One Month Later...

Things are still a bit tough right now with my work and real life schedule, but I'm working on a few little art pieces here and there, hopefully will have some finished in the next week or so
I'm not so sure about opening the floodgates for commissions anytime soon, but I will need to eventually: I could use the funds given our upcoming move, among other things... But, I don't want to do that until I feel like I can handle it, and really there is just too much going on at the moment
I've been trying to think more about resuming Vie as well, though again, I don't want to do that until I feel like I can handle it. I am hoping to get something done on a smaller comic as a warmup/refresher course... what that'll be though, im not sure yet
in any case, things are looking up! It'll be alright, I'm sure it will

So even though it'll be depressing, I suppose it's time to review my goals from last year
Go back to basics. At least once a month, I'd like to devote some time to figure sketching, anatomy practice, and general studies. ☐
Continue my work on comic making, (but remember to take breaks!) ☐
Build a portfolio. ☐
Nope... Nothing. I've accomplished nothing.
Honestly, I don't really have any goals for 2019. I can't think of things I want to do, or need to do at present. I've been able to work on art again, though it's been admittedly difficult to find the joy in it that I usually do. I think it's just temporary, brought on by the transition into proper adult life and home ownership: sometimes one needs time to restructure. But we'll just have to wait and see. I'll just have to keep trying my best, even when it isn't good enough for me.
2018 was hard for a lot of people, I hear. I'm not one of them really, for me it's just been another year. If it's been a bad one for you, I hope next year is better. But, I know that wish doesn't really mean much to anyone, does it?
Still. Wishing you all a better new year. As always.

losing someone
General | Posted 7 years agois never easy... every time, it stings almost like its brand new. someone who was so kind to me in this community has lost their life much too early, and now so many people feel that sting of loss.
la-glacefurball ... we all will miss you, your art, and your characters so much. you were a joy to be around, and were someone who always made me smile, without fail. i cant thank you enough for that, its a gift i dont take lightly. i know all of your friends felt that way about you too, and your family, and the animals you rescued and cared for. im far from the only one hurting right now. i barely feel as though i deserve to be hurting as much as i am, if im being honest.
I wish i could say we were close, that i knew her well, anything like that... but now i feel as though i barely knew her half as much as i wanted to. i wanted to reach out and talk more, but i was a coward. i was forgetful. i didnt maintain connections. i curse myself for it, but I know i cant just blame myself, tempting as it is.
in the face of a sudden tragedy, suddenly it feels as though your own actions bore little consequence. you could have done more. you should have, before it was too late. but you didnt. and now you cant. you never can. you can only shoulder your burden and conduct yourself forward, maybe a little more mindfully. a little more gratefully.
ive felt this way through every loss, im sure lots of you have too. its a cold reminder to treasure your time and let those close to you know how you feel. i used to try to do that a lot: tell people what they mean to me, just in case. i gave up because i didnt want to seem weird or creepy. now, i guess it really would have made me feel better to be weird and creepy... at least then i could have told glace how valuable her friendship was to me, how much i appreciated her. i'll just have to strive to be less afraid, before its too late.
be kind. be safe. tell people that they matter to you. if you knew glace, please feel free to share stories. i would love to hear them.
Here's one of mine:
I remember Glace telling me about the resuce dogs she and her family cared for. as a shelter worker, it warmed my heart. likewise, she loved hearing about me bringing my work home with me in the form of 4 nutty rescue cats that i named after Undertale characters... she was also kind enough to help when my kitten Papyrus had vet bills piling up, and ill always appreciate that. even in a terrible moment, glace was willing to show kindness to a kitten she had only seen pictures of, and it meant so much to me and nux. it still does.
thank you to tsukihanakuro and masterskadu for spreading the word along to me and others. its not an easy job, but it had to be done and i appreciate it

I'm hoping to pick myself up and find a new job soon. That is easier said than done. The application process is filling me with a lot of anxiety, but really I don't think I have a choice if I want to retain my mental health. a new start will be good for me, even though it scares the hell out of me
I don't know when I'll be back at the comic again. I was hoping to do so this month, but I think I just need more time. I have some half finished adoptables I wanted to post as well, but I can't motivate myself to finish them. I'm hoping I can crank em out before halloween at least.
Oh and... It's been about 8 years since Vie was concieved... Ehhh, sorta?

ok no not really, but it is a day of small improvements! sometimes thats all the wonderful you need after a bad spell.
I'm still not sure when Vie will resume, but i am settling into a new schedule with my day job after everyone else in my department quit (again) and we hired all new people. so... hopefully i can wrap up kierou's birthday gifts, post a new menagerie wall, and work on a surprise project ;] Then, I would love to have something special for Vie (and its protaganist's) birthday! but, we shall see...
in other news... I'd appreciate it if you could check out the adoptables i have for sale if you havent already! there are quite a few, and I would love to see them go to people who will enjoy them!

The Dreaded Hiatus.

HIATUS...
My workload with my dayjob has recently quadrupled, and I just don't have the mental or physical energy to continue working on Vie... At least, not with my current schedule. I need to sit and regroup, and rearrange my comic workdays to better suit my work workdays. Right now, I end up working on sketching monday, inking tuesday, coloring wednesday, and finishing touches on thursday... But there's just no way I can have coloring--the longest part of the process--happen on wednesday, one of my busiest and shittiest workdays. I'm hoping there's a solution, but right now I just don't see it. Not without sacrificing some part of the color process, or rearranging my weekly routine. Possibly even changing the day that the comic updates, I don't know.
Unfortunately, this is about what I anticipated. I'm still a newbie to this, and I'm trying to balance a lot at once. But I'm still overall passionate about the work, and I have no plans to give up. Just... Need some time to figure things out.
Naturally, I'm not taking time off from commissions. I'll finish this round at least, and close afterwards: I think that I need to replan how and when I open those as well, and probably limit my slots more in the future.
In the following weeks, I will try to reorganize myself. I am hoping to resume Vie again before autumn for sure, but unfortunately I can't make any certain promises or give a solid date.
Thanks to everyone who has provided support, advice, and who has genuinely been enjoying the story and the art. I apologize for my overambition, rookie errors, and greatly appreciate everyone's patience as I try something I haven't seriously attempted before!
I'll have some other art for you in the meantime, via my last 2 commissions, and some stream sketchwalls I have yet to assemble. Perhaps I'll try to work on other things here and there in the meantime, but it's very difficult for me to be sure with how stressed and worn down I've been feeling.

HIATUS...
My workload with my dayjob has recently quadrupled, and I just don't have the mental or physical energy to continue working on Vie... At least, not with my current schedule. I need to sit and regroup, and rearrange my comic workdays to better suit my work workdays. Right now, I end up working on sketching monday, inking tuesday, coloring wednesday, and finishing touches on thursday... But there's just no way I can have coloring--the longest part of the process--happen on wednesday, one of my busiest and shittiest workdays. I'm hoping there's a solution, but right now I just don't see it. Not without sacrificing some part of the color process, or rearranging my weekly routine. Possibly even changing the day that the comic updates, I don't know.

let's just say friday the 13th came on saturday for me, oh boy...
i have 0 motivation for anything, but i am going to do my best to get you guys two comic pages next week. i also have commissions to work on, and am trying to prioritize those. i plan on streaming some of the commission work on Tuesday.
no idea when/if i can get to anything else like swimsuits. i may try to work on unrelated art soon just to stop feeling so blue, but i dont even know if i can do that, frankly speaking.

Update on Marker Funeral Expenses
General | Posted 7 years agoDespite the title... Great news! Amazon had a sale on the marker set I needed, so I was able to get the set for about half off and just buy it now with my own funds! I also was able to make it to the store on tuesday, but as I feared they really aren't stocking what I need anymore... I managed to get the last bit of juice out of the markers I did have at home, and I think it went about as good as I could manage.
To save myself some time and a headache, I'll just be posting last week's page and this week's page tomorrow! Probably later in the day, but it's what I'm aiming for!
I've also actually (for real) begun construction on the production blog that I mentioned a million years ago! I'm still deciding how to format things and what exactly to post there, but I hope to have a link ready for you guys who like that kinda stuff at some point in the future 'v'
Commissions may be opening up as the month goes on, depending on how I'm feeling and how much time I have. At present there's still a lot on my plate, and I wouldn't want to take on more until I can clear some space. (I'm fat enough as it is, thanks :J)

Comic Delay: Death of a Marker
General | Posted 7 years agoOr in my case... several... my grays and blues and greens have taken a serious beating, and it's gonna be hard to complete the shading on the page without them...! I'll be attempting to make a run to the store to replace them over the weekend, or maybe i'll buckle and order on amazon... We'll see. Apparently Amazon is trying to be THE retailer for prismacolors, and I'd much rather support my local stores and save time/shipping cost.
This makes me wonder, though. Maybe I should set up a Ko-Fi goal to buy a few sets of grays? Stock up, keep things running smoothly. I'll be moving out by year's end, and I'll pretty much have no disposable income once that happens. I've considered Patreon, but its important to me that Vie remains free to read and that I can have the flexibility to delay pages as I try to learn my limits as a comicker. If I were receiving payments via patreon, I'd be a lot more pressured to keep up pace and offer rewards, which I dont want to do until I feel I can trust myself to deliver.
Of course I would prefer to keep Vie primarily in the realms of traditional art as well, but digital would be cheaper and a bit easier to do, so that is another option...
There still will be a page complete as soon as I can manage; coloring is about 80 percent done. But to prevent this from happening again, I'd appreciate feedback on methods to continue production! Thanks for reading, and I hope you guys are liking it <3

Calling out Pawn (warning: drama, pls read)
General | Posted 7 years agoI really hate to do this--I like to keep my page all about the art and as drama free as possible--but due to 
Pawn's journal calling my character into question, I can no longer be silent.
Me and Pawn have quite a history together, and he has been friends with Nux even longer. From the moment we first met online though, I knew that something wasn't right... Nobody could possibly be this cool, funny, and genuinely kind, it's probably impossible. But unfortunately, I have to assure you... Yes, it is possible.
When I switched from AIM to Windows Live, I would talk to Pawn and friends on a near daily basis, though he had a different name back then. The longer I talked to him, the more I realized just how cool, awesome, hilarious, and witty he actually was beneath that exterior shell of coolness. We would talk about stories and writing and drawing, and he'd draw gift art for myself and others just to brighten our day... He's always been great at art, even in his pixel days... But his improvement at art has been steady and impressive, and I'm sure he'll continue to get even better; like a horrifying learning robot or something. and I still remember the day I explained the full story I had in mind for Vie to him, and he listened and commented cheerfully even though the explanation took 2 or 3 days... To this day, he remains a valuable confidant and helps me to make the story as good as it can possibly be. He's friendly, funny, and could probably put a smile on someone's face even on the worst of days... He has since tried to change his name to disguise his true awesomeness, but I know better. And now, you know better too.
If you should encounter Pawn anywhere online, you should say hello, tell him he has astounding taste in butts, and tell him you know his deep dark secret... He's a great dancer, good at smash bros, and particularly skilled at being a wonderful person.

Vie Page Revisions, Progress, and Plans
General | Posted 7 years agoVIE: THE STORY OF A GUY WHO HASN'T BEEN BORN YET BUT WILL PROBABLY BE A HUGE DICK WHEN HE GROWS UP
Just went back and added some location signboards to a few older pages! It was something I forgot/debated about doing, but kinda shrugged off!
Due to some mild confusion about where certain things were taking place, I figured it'd be a good idea to go ahead and fix it properly. Also tinkered a tiny bit with dialogue on one page (14)... Honestly the changes are super minor, but I thought I'd clarify and explain anyway!

mostly made a journal about it so that anyone who rereads doesn't feel like they've gone insane because there are tiny differences, ahahaha
... But also, a big thank you to y'all who are reading it! I hope it's enjoyable, and that the threads of plot are beginning to form... When I sat down and outlined and drafted all of this, I really didn't realize just how long it would take! This first chapter/introductory stuff sure is a lot of work... But, I am enjoying it, and I am having fun! If you are too, then that just makes it all the better B) Once I finish the first chapter, I'll be taking a break and some time to draft out chapter 2... But, that's still a ways off!! We are about 2/3rds of the way through though... So it'll get there!
I also am STILL hoping to start up a production diary blog of sorts... Something where I'll hopefully dump off some of my random progress photos, document my thoughts as I work on each page, and occasionally make jokes or something, who knows, not me! It also might be fun to make infographics and lore posts about the world, do parody pages or side stories... Maybe even answer questions or something, if I get them! ("Where the fuck is the main character" "what kind of bullshit are you peddling" "does Percival like coke or pepsi" etc)

But now that I'm done with the comic until monday, the rest of this week will be dedicated to finishing up commissions, trades, and other things I've been up to! I am considering opening for another round of the swimsuit collection once I'm finished with the full commissions... Might be a good way to cut down on time and make some art and money! Really my biggest problem these days is managing my time and trying to budget it better.
Also considering opening up for other kinds of YCHs! Is that something anyone would be interested in? Considering doing a few, possibly even some with my own characters thrown into the mix... Not sure though. I know YCHs are kind of a mixed bag for a lot of people--me included--but it might be a good way to save time and branch out, I guess! I dunno, I barely know what I'm doing

General | Posted 7 years agoWhat a week... Been having some normal busy irl stuff, work, shopping, etc... But on top of it, we got into a minor car accident today and have had to sit around forever waiting for the cops and the other person to get a grip. everyone is ok, the car's a bit banged up and we're a bit shaken, but it'll be ok.
So, long story short... I've been procrastinating a bit, and now I've lost a big chunk of time for working on the comic. I hope to give you at least one page tomorrow,, or very late tonight! ideally, i can manage the double page i was hoping to, but im just gonna do what i can. thanks for your patience! sorry i have to keep asking for it.

I'm actually going to be putting the update off even longer, unfortunately. Someone at work got fired and the shifts need to be filled, and I need some extra time to adapt to the new schedule and destress a bit.
The page is mostly colored now, just gotta work on the backgrounds, and then do the usual dialogue and cleanup... I'm hopeful to get it out monday or tuesday, but we'll see.

So, long story short... I've been procrastinating a bit, and now I've lost a big chunk of time for working on the comic. I hope to give you at least one page tomorrow,, or very late tonight! ideally, i can manage the double page i was hoping to, but im just gonna do what i can. thanks for your patience! sorry i have to keep asking for it.
