The start of the End
Posted 13 years agoNo doubt some of you know that I've had this account for a number of years, however My involvment in the fandom predates this by a good few years. Since the beginning id wanted to clump it all under the same online username. Sadly when i was young and naïve i didn't realise how; unoriginal, the name Draken was. Result was for years I had to twist usernames to fit around the cursed "username already taken" and still mean something to me. When I joined Twitter I had the same problem. After deliberation and a little bit of luck, I managed to find a name I'm happy with, TyneDragon.
I don't really expect a vast number of people to read this in honesty, but to those who I may not know directly face to face, it comes from the name of the river running through my home city. It's a little odd, but I feel it fits nicely and has a certain convenience of being able to be used with any service I don't want to use my really name for, but don't want anything too 'fuzzy'.
For the beginning I'll most likely be bulk uploading previous gifts. I used to be quite conflicted about whether to upload artwork concerning me to my account or not, I used to think just favouritiing was the best of both worlds, until I found that when you fave lots of stuff anything that's relevent to you becomes lost in a a sea of art you like.
So, in closing,
See ya!

2011
Posted 14 years ago1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Travelled to Germany.
Got pierced.
Moved out, even moved cities.
So much more.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year I didn't make any, 12 months ago I was one of the happiest people in the world, I had it all. This coming year, different, I'll be making some, I hate calling them resolutions, they're more long term goals.
3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Likely with friends, reminding me why I want to be back in the North East of the UK.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year.
5. What countries did you visit?
Majorca, Germany
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Everything I lost, dropped, misplaced through 2011?
7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Likely EF, walking round the corner after spending 8 hours travelling to see the hotel and a smile spreading over my face.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
New Job!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Watching my world collapse around me.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
A deep wound on my left thumb from a pair of scissors. Nothing more serious than that though really.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Not sure. I don't really attach myself to possessions very often.
12. Where did most of your money go?
Rent and holidays.
13. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Pass, I could have a compilation album for 2011 if I wanted to!
14. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hobbies, driving, traveling.
15. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Less saving. I realised that you can't take money with you.
16. What was your favorite TV program?
Battlestar Galactica.
17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, I learnt forgiveness if anything this year.
18. What was the best book you read?
For the first time in years, I honestly didn't read a book.
19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys
20. What was your favorite film of this year?
Honestly? Nothing really impressed me.
21. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
22, I had alcohol on my birthday for the first time. Surrounded by so many awesome people eating tapas in the city nowhere can ever replace.
22. What kept you sane?
Music, memories and a ton of awesome friends.
A special note must be added to my parents who received many late night phone calls.
23. Who did you miss?
Every last single person from Newcastle, some more than others, but I remembered each and everyone one of you.
24. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
There's more to life than work and saving money.
Go nuts, while you still can, take that risk, step into the unknown.
Be free.

Reflection
Posted 14 years agoFour years ago (give or take) I wrote a list of to-do's...
2008
1. Pass my driving test (says it all)
2. Get a car (naturally dependent on 1.)
3. Find a companion (not especially lonely but its nice to have someone to care for and to do stuffs with, im guessing 99% of people know what i mean)
4. Last longer than 6 months with said companion in a relationship. (i never date someone on a whim but i never seem to be able to continue past 6 months without it all falling apart :/)
5. Holiday possibly...Anthrocon even?
6. New telly!
7. Learn to draw characters.
8. Finish current Open University courses and other such academic areas. (Its one of these things you hate to love, but if you dont then you FAIL which is even worse.)
9. Keep a diary. (It occoured to me that i keep waaay too much held in my head when really i should just write it down instead. Weird thing for a guy i know.)
10. Get another job. (because 1,2,5, and 6 dont come for free!)
And now to see where I am, almost four years on...
2008-2011
1. Not in 2008, but I passed my driving test in Feb of 2009.
2. Had a right pain of a first car, but since getting a Honda Jazz/Fit last year I've rekindled my love of driving!
3. Had this one, not anymore, step forward, step back.
4. Longer than six months? Try three years! Touch and go at some points, but overall, three years I'd not give up for the world.
5. Done this, repeatedly, but perhaps most special to me was my trip to Germany for Eurofurence.
6. Got.
7. Deferred til 2012...Again.
8. Now a ACMT, still going with the OU work.
9. Not so much a diary, but started making real use of Twitter to keep track of thoughts.
10. Started work in a different city, found that there's so much of my home town I miss. Got another job, just waiting to be given the go ahead to start. Just wish it'd been quick enough to save 3/4.
To complete this I think its only fair if I list another 10 things for the coming year and onwards...
2012+
1. Finish new fursuit.
2. Attend EF
3. Roadtrip to EF! (possibly with furball run)
4. Attend CF
5. Tattoo (not going to be rushing this, it may be on the list for a few years yet...)
6. Join and attend a gym regularly.
7. Live in Newcastle (again!)
8. Become a home owner (related to 7 and likely same length of time as 5)
9. Continue to live debt free.
10. Be more.... 'me'.

Things to do for 2011
Posted 15 years agoDecided to make a visible note of what I want to do this year:-
February York Meet, as a second part I want to drive there. Two spare seats for going down if anyone is interested.
April Leeds Meet
I want to go to Paris again, for a weekend.
June Sheffield Meet
Visit Danza and Loz again during the summer.
Holiday in Majorca for a week.
Eurofurence 17, unsure about how I'm getting there yet, but hopefully make it into a week long stint with time in Berlin for a few days.
August York meet
October Leeds meet
Tea Shoppe Crawl (if it happens)
December Sheffield meet.
Ontop of that healthy little list I also want to visit people away from meets more.
