Many months ago I recovered a rather nice and long trunk of a fairly young maple tree that was going to be burned for a little bonfire, the past 6 months I have been letting it dry out in storage so it would become more resilient and usable. The time has come for me to start seriously looking at this project, what I want to do is make this piece into a staff for my own personal use. However I tend to lack experience when it comes to carving and materials for such things, I am looking for any advice on what kind of tools I should use or what kind of not so chemically glues and varnishes are out there that I can use on something like this without ruining that natural feel.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially from those familiar with Shamanic or Pagan instruments like that. ^.=.^

Its been a good few years since I got my red scaled butt back in the social saddle as it were, mind you I am far from a noobie when it comes to the furry social scene. None the less there is one thing that endlessly perplexes me even though I somewhat "get it".. and that's Species based social cliques.... namely Dragons.

It may sound very... hell incredibly ironic coming from the mouth of a dragon to talk about being cliquey antisocial... fuck WE are some of the worst offenders in this fandom for doing that.. But I can't help but want to talk about it after these past couple of years of pushing myself out there and being more social all across the board. A side of me I must confess to is my very stereotypical dragon nature, I like the concept, the idea of being with my own and having a group of other dragons that I could truly talk to and be good friends with... A very "family" feeling group as it were, the funny thing how ever is that when it comes to me just being myself and being out there in the furry fandom, I have gained so many wonderful new friends, people who are incredibly social and intellectual, people I just could not stop talking with even if I tried.. It feels like I almost effortlessly made some of the best friends I have ever had in my life by just being out there and open.

The flip side of this being that always when I see what I believe to be a social and interesting dragon and try and be social in the same regard, they most always are rather dismissive, they will say hi or chat a little, but they never seem to have that same social mentality.. I find it bizarre. In a way I feel as if I missed some imaginary boat or I do not mesh with that particular social clique despite being rather similar to many of them.. In fact many I meet have that old-ways animosity towards the furry fandom and like to be separate while somehow being a part of it.

Perhaps I am reading too much into this or perhaps I am onto a little something here... But I find it odd how a dragon-centric, openly spiritual and chatty dragon can walk right into a group of mostly your average and more mature furs, hit things off almost instantly just by being talkative and open minded and even be out there with his spirituality around others who don't share that same outlook.. But then trying to actually even talk to one of his own, others who share all those things in common with him... can be rather clique and closed off and even a bit unwelcoming as if to say "my circle of friends is complete, I don't need to talk to anyone else." Even if that means a local dragon just trying to be friendly and meet others like himself.


I would really like to hear others opinions on that strange social clique nature.

What a year! The year of the dragon ironically! ~.=.^ Just looking back on all that was done and where I have been.. I can easily call this the greatest year I have had since my teens (okay my teen years were not that special, but im nostalgia blinded lol) I could make an endless journal here, jumping from thought to thought as I bounce around all that has happened and all that is planned. So instead I may just make it subject paragraph by subject paragraph to keep it more clean and coherent. ^.=.^

The mundane working life: Well this year marked me maintaining a full time job, working as a car lot attendant, many may wonder why I see this as good, but I will say, after nearly two years prior of poverty and actually making an effort to apply for welfare at the worst of it, I am back up again, I got a good few thousand in my bank and have been able to still treat myself. The work might suck at time and my coworkers might be pretty petty and sleazy, but at the very least I am still earning a ok student wage and doing so at 40hrs a week solid. so I am happy for that! I am glad I can afford to see friends and go to furry events, so this year over all marked me recovering financially after my layoff in 2010.

The Furry side: The island has exploded with furs, almost seemingly from no where, in later 2011 and all through 2012 I made it a point to put myself out there for every furry event I could, I went to Howl, Vancoufur and even the BC FurBQ which was on the island this year, I went to numerous house parties and events. It was great to get my scaly butt fully in the game again and get more social, in fact it was last years new-years resolution, to be more social. I am so glad I was able to follow through with that. I am looking forward to many more epic furry events and even the fursuiting that is to come! ^.=.^

Friends: I had to create this category specifically to mention all the great people I have got to know over the past two years (would seem unfair to leave out those I really got to know in 2011 even) This also ties in to all the events around the island, none of which could have happened if it wasn't for some of the sheer brilliant furs I am proud to call my friends, so with no further a due, a shout out to all my awesome island bro's!  kyroo  foxavenger  ladybones  xxarcticfoxxx  senti  sokatak  tonkhusky  bandeirante Skyfox, Ph8l Wolf and any other who I may have forgotten!

Spirituality: Okay those who talk to me lots have gotten the WHOLE spiel from me. For many years I had more or less turned my back on my Otherkin/Draconic identity and kept it very very low-key around furs. Two years ago that all changed in part from some fortunate and unfortunate events that served as a eye opener for me of how a dragons nature can really be, that we can indeed still be very spiritual without locking ourselves away from the world around us. I had been hiding and denying what was a huge part of who I am all over some silly stuff that happened over 8 years ago. One of my greatest and most long time friends  shewolf helped me greatly in this aspect, she helped me take off the polarizing blinders I had put on myself as to never associate with some things ever again and to shy away from my own identity, as such I went back to my Otherkin/ Draconic roots focusing on the spiritual side of myself these recent years, its been a very large change for me. I have felt more whole than I have ever been in the past decade and I feel a stronger and wiser dragon from it. I have tried new things and started to open up to new ideas, things that years ago I would have shunned or mocked out of a anger I had towards my own kind, Things like crystal work, meditation, dream work, energy focusing. All in all I will sum it up as saying, I feel like I am finally heading in the right direction to being my true self and have never felt like more of a dragon than I do now.

The love life: This also marks the most stable living together year me and my mate  thedraconicone have had, we have had to work through some things here and there, bills, travel the usual stuff, but I can honestly say that being in a relationship with my draggie for over 4 years now is one of the few things that has kept me going through the thick and thin and helped me have some form of foundation in my life.

I can honestly say the year of the dragon has been good to me, thank goodness too, it IS the year I was born on and my species, seems rather fitting that the year of the dragon was the year I got more in-touch as a dragon. ^.=.^

Figured this was worth making a journal about, normally im one to brag but in this instance given how easily I could have met with some serious shit.. Hey worth a mention!

So I had to go help a co-worker of mine pick up his old 94 Jetta and bring it back to work. I cant really explain why due to it being work related. We had to drive about 20 mins outta town up to where he lived to pick it up, only one problem, its clutch was GONE, like boom just broken right inside the housing.. and some how I was gonna have to drive this 20 mins back to work on the highway during late afternoon traffic... the perfect storm almost. I remember driving there thinking "please not today.. I kinda wanna LIVE"

So we get there and I am really unsure about this, I have driven a car clutchless once before but it was a 97 Pontiac Grand AM and was only around our back lot and for the lulz, so I knew the principle of how to do it.. But I had to go from a dead stop, at the side of a highway.. to even drive the car I had to kill the engine, put it in 1st gear then start the car so it would jerk and jump to life, lurching forward and taking off. From there I was left trying to speed match the gears, not an easy task as you really gotta know your car and have some magical clairvoyance on where one gear reaches its plateau and the next gear "starts" in my car.. maybe I could pull it off if I was desperate and didn't care about its transmission. But an unfamiliar Jetta? hah fuck me, so naturally I ground some gears trying to get her up to highway speeds, never put her past 4th gear as it was hard enough to judge the gears and their speeds as it was, at one start I went right from 1st to 4th cause I booted it too hard in 1st and got too much speed to mesh with the lower gears and lucked out getting her into 4th. As we got back to town I found myself going "oh fuck.. almost got this pulled off, just a bit more Drake!" I stop at one light RIGHT at the intersection that I have to turn, kill the engine and put her back into 1st and get ready for the advance signal so I can cross safely. I fire the car up, get a nice puff of white smoke out from under the hood and think "Okay over time, we are going for broke!" and just booted it back in 1st gear (was only about 500m from work at that point). So we pull in and I park her, tell my one co-worker who was following me that she smoke up at the light, we pop the hood and immediately notice that the upper rad hose going to the block blew clean off and that we had nothing left for fluid anywhere.. Lucky for us that happened right at the end of the trip or that could have been potentially nasty.. But in the end I felt pretty boss about the whole situation, even looked at some of my co-workers and said "I should get a damn medal for pulling a stunt like that!" Though later I found myself a bit irked by the fact that I had to even pull a stunt like that in the first place cause people were too cheap for a $80 tow truck ride.

But hey, score one for personal feats XD

I wasn't very regular on my original Facebook account mostly due to having a combo of furries, otherkin and family on there so it made it kinda weird to really actually say the things I wanted to. Being that it was all about spike and other dragons I was obviously all super interested in this new episode... then I saw the main antagonist... Did Hasbro literally just make a teenage version of me and make him into a huge douchebag? XD

As the episode went on I kept looking at him and going "haha red draggie! wait.. red dragon with a white belly.. yellow wing membranes... barbed tail and spines... blue eyes... beak like muzzle... dear god he is like a teen douchebag me!"

Thats pretty much all I gotta say aside it being another good episode ^.=.^

On Saturday my boss called me in, I had reminded him that my 90 day probation was coming up and I was wondering what they do for that. We sat down talked a bit, he told me that all the guys there seem to really like me and that he was impressed with the amount of work that I do. He did bring up a few small criticisms but its nothing that I cant change in a split second, really was just about prioritizing lol.

The raise itself was far more than I though I was gonna get, so it was a very pleasant surprise, needless to say, I am making a decent little jump over what I had previously been making at Seaside Computers as a computer tech so huzzah, its nice to have an employer that can see my strengths for what they are and appreciate hard work!


In a way it sweet bitter-sweet. This is the FIRST raise I have gotten in my life, yet I have worked for YEARS at various different jobs for WAY longer periods, many gave no review or anything even at the 1 year mark,hell my computer tech job FIRED me when I even asked if they did raises at all after nearly 2 years solid of working for them. But here at this job I get a raise after only 3 months and I get recognition for my efforts. Two things I have pretty much never had happen at any previous jobs despite putting in the same kinda effort so to a guy like me this is a very pleasant surprise.

But oh well, the past is the past, I am now back on the saddle and making a survivable wage again doing a job that in all honesty is pretty layed back once you get into the groove. ^.=.^

So I had to take my RV in for some repairs today (starter motor was having massive draw and it was a miracle I got her to even fire up one last time to make it to the shop) but thats aside the point..

On the way back to work (in my Civic, not the RV) I am going down one side road getting ready to turn onto the highway when what do I see in my mirror? A nice brand new Honda CRZ (probably my only new dream car) so naturally I am like "oooh that's a rare sight :3" so I pull out onto the highway, noticed that traffic is rather slow today as within 15 seconds I am already hundreds of meters ahead of everyone, I see the CRZ just puttering along in the slow lane... till I reach the next light thats right before a looong straight stretch. As I look in my mirror to see everyone catching up I see the CRZ fly into the fast lane and run right up beside me and for some reason I KNEW that he was wanting to strut his stuff and show up an older Honda like mine..

The light turns green, I hear him rev his CRZ up and start to bolt off from the light, I was starting off with a little bit of a putter, just planning to accelerate as normal... but the second I saw him bolting off already gaining 20ft on me I just hit the floor and blazed up to 5500 RPM in first gear FLYING by him, then going into second gear still doing 5000 RPM, feel my cars front end start to break the wheels a little as she shifted a bit (but nothing bad lol) and within seconds he is already falling way behind me, I look in my mirror and see him smiling with this grin like I was freaking hilarious to him, there I am in my car with the worlds biggest shit eating grin as I shift all the way up into 5th and resume my fast "cruising" speed. I guess he just wanted to see if I was gonna take him up on his offer.. and what can I say? Those cars are rare and I wanted to see what they were capable of for being the first "Sports Hybrid" on the market. ^.=.^

Thank god 2011 is gone, lets just sum it up by saying it was utter shit right till the last 6 months or so.

But now its the year of the dragon, my year baby! I got myself a good job, a place to live so this year is starting off on the right foot!

My new-years resolution 1440 x 900... no lol Actually I wanna continue to get more social and out-there in the fandom and local meets, to keep working at my art to make it better (okay a very cliche resolution for a furry). But most of all, to get my ass a damned fursuit! I got a job that will help me make all I need for that, I just gotta get on the ball.

I saved this update for a while because I am what you would call a tad superstitious and I didn't wanna jinx myself before I got a good way in.

Those of you closer to me will already know that I landed a auto detailing job on the island here. Whats so great is its actual FULL TIME work, a thing i was starting to think was non-existent for a youth such as myself.

Really the main part of my job is to wash vacuum, wash, wax and otherwise details cars ranging from beaters to brand new cars. I also just pretty much am the errand guy. I can't say too much else due to a lill paperwork agreement of course but I will say, I did my first week and I feel I will do really well at this job :) Can't hate a job when you don't gotta deal with bitchy customers (fucking huge bonus) AND part of your job involves driving cars :D

But most of all I am glad to have a stable job were I get full time hours and I get shown some respect. The guys there seem like a pretty good bunch to boot ^.=.^

So I got a job offer about 2 weeks ago but was keeping it under wraps cause I am paranoid about "jinxes" lol

I was woken one morning by a phone call, I let it ring like 5 times (thinking it was Wal-Mart and I didn't wanna come in on my day off) but for what ever reason I answered and I found out that a used car dealership I applied at back early in the summer was wondering if I still wanted a job with them. I jumped at the opportunity and literally jumped out of bed and drove down there in a heart beat and met with the manager. We talked for a bit he told me the position was full time the starting wage wasn't bad either (I was just excited that I would be able to make full time hours and cash) he seemed rather fond of me and said he called me back because I was so persistent and he said he saw some sorta honesty and character in me, and literally on the spot I was offered the job!

Today was my first day sort-of, I had called them two days earlier so I could come in and get shown the ropes. It was a chaotic day that's for sure, I started off just doing some general house work for them (part of my job is also some janitorial work o the side) but I soon went on to sorting out a big Dodge Ram that was recently traded in, pretty much just washed her down and vacuumed it. Ran some errands and got to drive one of their Dodge challengers, then had to go off and pick up a little Hyundai which was a 5 speed so it was an interesting lill drive.. Gotta say I am glad I learned how to drive standard. I doubt I would have gotten this job if I didn't have the ability to drive any passenger type vehicle ^.=.^;

Really looking forward to my official first day one Dec 3rd ^.=.^ should be an interesting learning experience and the paychecks should be pretty sweet as well :D

Back from Howloween (a sorta mini-con based in Burnaby, BC, Canada)

Its the first time in ages I have been to any sizable furry event and I gotta say...
Never in my life have I felt so awkward, thrashed my body so badly, eaten enough sugar to kill a village of diabetics and yelled and talked so loud I made my throat raw... and LOVED the fuck outta it XD

I went there with  The_Draconic_One and  AlanTabby in mah lill Civic, not too bad except for traffic in that area is hectic and disorganized at best. But we made it in one piece and quickly hopped over to the pre-event bowling, pretty decent, we jsut mostly hung out, looked around for people we knew which sad to say many furs I knew years ago were no where to be seen, but did get to meet a few old friends of mine so it made up for it all ^.=.^

We were ready to head out and take the sky train out when we started talking about this sweet looking camperised 1964 Ford Econoline van we saw when all of a sudden this one guy comes running up to us offering a ride to the event, we figure we might as well since we would get there faster than the sky train lol so he jumps in the van and opens her up and clears so space for us to get in. God was probably one of the most (if not the most) cool vehicles I have been in! The whole ride back we were just talking about it, talking about our cars and what not. When we got back to the hotel we found out that he was this sorta steam punk craftsman and a collector of very unique antiques, had a whole bag that had everything from folding metal cups to a full sized coat hanger that was the size of a USB key O.=.o gotta say, one of the most random and most awesome people I met at that event! ^.=.^

The rest of the event can be summed up by a lot of sugar and loud talking among friends but my favorite part was the dance, I started off just watching as suiters and anyone brave enough decided to head out onto the floor, at first I was just taking some videos but after a while I was convinced by two fellow island furs TJ and Tonk to all run into the center of the dance floor and start air humping in a circle, needless to say as long as friend were going in then I was game as usually I am too shy on my own to do stuff like that in front of so many people lol. About 1/2hr later or so another local fur, Ruby managed to push Morrogh out on the dance floor with us and we all started to do it again XD After that my shynes pretty much melted away and I just started to dance on my own as the night went on because it just felt so awesome haha, left the floor TWICE saying I was too damn tired to go on and suddenly a moment later I was like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESbvkaiYK3g XD I probably looked like such a tool XD

Hardly slept that night and my throat was so scratchy and fucked, my legs felt like bricks and my abdominal muscles were stiff, but it was well worth it hehehe. I have been use to thrashing myself before, but going like that for like an hour or two lol even a self proclaimed "fit enough" guy is gonna kill his own ass XD

To some of you this may not make sense, to others you may go "WTF really? But I thought he was crazy bitter"

The past couple of years I found myself in a bit of a bewilderment. I love the fandom to pieces and it helped form me into the dragon you see before you today. But it wasn't always that way, when I started off under the massive fandom umbrella I didn't start off as a Furry, but instead a Draconic.

Certain drama on a rather bad forum lead me to try hard to distance myself from that identity because I didn't like their notion of "we all must drink the community koolaid" and a good few I knew on the one board were trying to almost turn it into a religion.. But because of a few bad apples like that I pretty much stopped identifying as Draconic and just started to tell people I was simply spiritual because I didn't want the perceived reputation Draconics and Otherkin had to follow me around.

Flash forward 8 years to this time, I had been in contact with a very old friend of mine who I have known since I entered the fandom. The past few years she has been exploring her own spirituality. Not the atypical spiritual notion of past lives, phantom limbs or meditation and astral projection. She is actually in the Native American type of spirituality. I talked with her for so long and every time it always made me think how many walls I had put up around my Draconity just to keep away from the title. I told her all about my past numerous times but lately I went into more detail about it and how I came to be in the furry fandom yet still call myself a dragon spiritually.

Originally I was talking to her more and more about getting back to my roots and exploring my personal Dragon spirituality without being told what to believe. She recommended a few things to just help me strengthen and explore my own personal spirituality.. but one thing she said for some reason really struck a cord with me. She told me that no matter what I do or even how I label myself, nothing can change the Dragon I have always been. That I have always been the same Draconic at my core and its simply my outlook of the world that's changed.

With that in mind I spent a good long while thinking about that notion and realized that it was rather silly of me to spend so long trying to re-label myself as things like Draconian, Spiritual or the like when from day one I had started as a Draconic and I should not be trying to hide or re-label myself cause of a few bad apples I met 10 years back.

I did, was spontaneous when we were getting to know each other online. ^.///.^;

I always seem to wake up an hour earlier than Morrogh, so me XD

No clue

Morrogh, his is 25 I am 23

6. Who’s smarter?
I am more tech savy and a technical thinker/ tactician.

7. Whose temper is worse?
Mine.. oh yeah mine..

8. Who does the laundry?
Me, I dunno why, I just do.

9. Who does the dishes?
I end up doing them and Morrogh ends up drying.

10. Who sleeps on what side of the bed?
I sleep on the left side of the bed (laying in bed perspective) Morrogh is right.

11. Whose feet are bigger?
Mine, I am like size 13M.

12. Whose hair is longer?
Morroghs usually, I don't let mien get too long.

Me, former computer tech and I still love to work with them.

14. Do you have pets?
Nope.

15. Who pays the bills?
We go splitsies.

16. Who cooks dinner?
Me most of the time, damn lazy dragon :P

17. Who drives when you are together?
Me, cause usually we take my car which is a standard.

18. Who pays when you go out to dinner?
We split the bill.

Mmm me I would guess, I know I am sorta stuck in my ways at times.

20. Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong?
Hard to say, we both have been able to live up to our errors.

21. Whose family do you see more?
Mine since we live closer to mine than his.

22. Who named your pet?
No pets.

23. Who kissed who first?
I think I did the first time we met, I was shy but I just kinda pushed myself to do it ^.///.^;

24. Who asked who out?
We just sorta became a couple there was no real official "asking out"

25. What did you do on your first date?
Talked shyly, went to my room, i got a bit too frisky and weirded him out kinda XD

26. Who’s more sensitive?
I am, I tend to get depressed more easily and can cry more at times.

27. Who’s taller?
I am by a good few inches.

28. Who has more friends?
Morrogh has way more good IRL friends, I have more furry friends.

29. Who has more siblings?
we got the exact same XD 2 each.

30. Who wears the pants in the relationship?
Errr.. well I do tend to make more of the decisions on things, but I am just kinda forward and determined.

I am trying to find someone who can do dragons fairly well, price is negotiable really, of course something more affordable is better, but quality and a more realistic face are paramount for me. Really I am just looking for a head at the moment.
Preferably something done like the following.
