Current Events & Indefinite Twitter Hiatus
Posted 12 months agoFor reasons that a lot of people will probably guess, I've logged off of both my Twitter accounts, and made them private. I've seen that some people have nuked their accounts. I don't yet know if I'm going to do the same, but Elon or no Elon, I don't think I have anything to contribute to that site, and being on it in this day and age probably won't do my mental health any good.
As I mentioned before (yeesh, more than a year since my last journal), I have a Mastodon account (which seems to be paying off more and more), so you can reach me there if you like, though I don't use it that much. At the moment, I have no plans to set up anywhere else.
Either way, the past 24 hours have taught me that Murphy's Law (the original Murphy's Law) is going to be in effect for a long, long time. Maybe this loss will give certain people the kick in the pants they need to make needed changes, but I'm not that optimistic.

So yeah… Things with Twitter (I refuse to call it X!) continue to escalate.
I forgot to mention it here on FA, but a while back, I made a Mastodon account as a fallback. Admittedly I don't use it all that much (compared to FA at any rate), but thanks to a certain rich idiot with a fragile ego, this fallback has been paying off more and more.

Out of 29 suggestions from you folks, I've selected seven finalists, and I've selected Karlsruhe and Naples as my two locations, so I'll be spending 30 days (one hour for each minute it takes by train and public transport to get from one to the other) as whatever species wins the final poll.

TF Endurance Challenge - Part I
Posted 6 years agoI'm thinking of holding a TF Endurance challenge for myself, and you can help!
Basically, all you have to do is,
Comment on this journal with:
• Up to three things you'd like to see me turned into (you can note if you want me to be TG'd as well!)
• Up to three random cities or other locations on earth (e.g. "Leipzig, Dodger Stadium, Sydney Opera House")
On August 27, I'll put up a poll with the top few species/gender options, then randomly select two of the cities/locations you suggested, then close the poll assume whatever form you've wins on September 2!
The distance or travel time between the two locations will dictate how long I spend in my new form!

If I'm following any skeevy, dubious, controversial, bigoted, hurtful, or just plain bad people, please let me know that they're that kind of person before you decide to unfollow or block me. There's a good chance I didn't know about them, and I'd appreciate knowing so I can expunge them from my feed myself.

Ref sheet conundrum - what would you suggest?
Posted 6 years agoI think I might actually be settling on a default species for myself - namely, an updated version of my jackrabbit sona. I'm feeling excited at the idea!
However, there's an issue. For one, I don't have the money to pay artists for a ref sheet (long story). There's no end of free lineart on this site I could use, but they'd require something like Photoshop - which I don't have.
So I'm coming to you guys now. What would you suggest for someone in my situation?

The situation has worsened. PRR's now deleted all of his tweets until today. and has said that he is crying. He's 'de-furred' (for want of a better word) his Twitter handle and avatar. TXO doesn't seem to have had much luck, but he was able to confirm that the fandom was getting problematic between PRR and his parents. TXO says he seems fine at the moment and that he's still talking with him over Twitter DM.
Further Update (12:54 MDT): PRR has officially disabled their FA account now.
Still wish there was something I could do!

Concerned about a furry mutual on Twitter - "Family Issues"
Posted 7 years agoThere is a furry Twitter user I've been following. Only today, he followed me back. He has an account here, but to respect his privacy, I'll give him the alias of PRR.
Then, this evening, all of a sudden, PRR announced that he was planning on deleting his FA account and leaving his Twitter to non-Furry things effective tomorrow. The reason he cited was "family issues". Nothing more than that.
Given how specific PRR was that he was leaving things related to the fandom, it occurred to me that it was possible that his family had found out about his involvement with the fandom and... didn't take it too well.
I DM'd with a mutual of mine (and of PRR's) this who's known him longer (I'll give him the alias of TXO). TXO seemed to have reached the same conclusion as me. He said he'd try and talk to PRR on Discord, where PRR said he'd be active, but due to technical constraints, TXO said he wouldn't be able to reach him on Discord until tomorrow.
I don't have a Discord account, and like I said, TXO's known PRR longer. Still, I feel like there's something I should be doing! Should I just leave it to TXO, or is there something I can do to help PRR?

Recent FA Drama and the Quest for a Backup Account
Posted 7 years agoYou may or may not have heard of recent drama concerning FA and its management. I won't go into details. I'll just say that two very talented artists have already left the site in protest over it (you know who you are. I'm not judging you for it) and that it's kind of made me feel a bit uneasy about the fandom.
For this reason, I may take a break for a while, so don't be surprised if I'm not as active on this site as I previously have been.
On another note, I'm now mulling over getting an account on another site like Weasyl, Furry Network, etc. as a precaution. I don't think I'm going to leave FurAffinity just yet, but I'd feel a bit better if I knew that option was there. Trouble is, FA seems to enjoy hegemonic power over the fandom, and the artists I like are pretty scattered between different sites. I did a bit of digging and found that only 25% of the 'essential' FA accounts that I follow have Weasyl accounts (though the two good artists that recently left FA are among them), and most of the other sites have even less than that.
If you don't have any accounts on sites other than FA, I recommend you do get at least one, whatever your opinion of the recent controversy. I just don't think it's wise to put all your eggs in one basket.
If you have any tips on what site I should pick for a backup account, I'd appreciate it. I'd like something that has the 'browseablity' and diversity of FA, and I'd like it to be story-friendly, but I'd also like to feel that the site has a decent amount of overlap so I feel I'm not missing out on anything there.

He responded, but by the time I saw that he'd replied, he'd disabled access to his account and its contents, so I can't see his reply.
So yeah. Trubbol, If you're reading this, I'm sorry I didn't get your reply. If you want to tell it to me either here or on my Twitter, I'm all ears!

Drawing is hard (if you're a perfectionist)
Posted 7 years agoI tried drawing a toony rabbit headshot earlier today. It actually came out decently, but then I decided to experiment with the eyes. I tried turning it back to normal, but I couldn't quite recapture what I got the first time. It was frustrating.
To make a long story short, I used the eraser so much I damaged the paper under one of the pupils. Now it looks... well... less than what it used to be. I should've stuck with what I had. I could try redrawing it, but I get the feeling I'd drive myself crazy trying to recapture what I had with this first image.
Maybe I'll put this botched-up image up in my scraps folder. Who knows?

And I was thinking of using that drawing as my profile icon too... Now I feel demoralized...

Dan: You were on a Gundam high and wanted an excuse to blow off work!
Now I'm wondering if, after three instalments of "Big F" Fox, I should try and focus on TFs that don't involve him.
Dan: Just as well. The guy's a smart*ss anyway.
Irving: Be nice! I kinda like him. He fits that good ol' trickster archetype!
Ryu: Yeah! He's an inspiration!
Dan: See, he's giving Ryu ideas!
Either way, I might actually take a break from writing (or at least, submitting writings) for a short while due to other concerns.
Now I'm a bit worried for The Fox and the Batting Practice Cap since it appears to be suffering from a sort of "middle child syndrome." Maybe that's irrational of me. I dunno.

On Gundam Build Divers
Posted 7 years agoSo, I'm a big Gundam fan. I caught the Prologue to the new anime Gundam Build Divers earlier
You can watch it here if you're interested. It's only 15 minutes.
Some parts of the net were freaking out for certain reasons that pertain to the furry fandom (watch it and you'll know why). Personally, the avatar used by the character Rommel didn't bug me that much. I'm pretty "meh" about the show myself, but for unrelated reasons (like overdesigned mecha).
