Posted 11 years agoThree years ago today 5 guys met up in a garage, jammed out a song and became a band. It’s Awake was formed that night with literally one song half way finished. In those three years we’ve had people come and go, we’ve played shows to five people and we’ve played shows to hundreds in the room. In those three years we’ve never once doubted our potential, striving to be one of the best metal bands to come out of the Utah music scene. We’ve had our ups and downs, fights, squabbles with other bands and promoters but that’s in the past. We look to the future and in all honesty, confidence or none, without fans willing to spread your music you won’t get far so to all of you guys who’ve stopped by given us a look, a listen, a like on Facebook and all of our other social media platforms, we thank you. All of you who’ve shared our music, shared our videos, bought a shirt, bought (or stolen) our single, thank you.
Today is our 3 year anniversary of becoming a band and with that we’re proud to announce that, as many of you may know, we are in the studio recording new music. What we haven’t told you is that we’re recording with Dan Jones of Chelsea Grin once again but it’s not for a new single, or an EP, no we’re going big or going home. We are currently in process of recording our first full length album. We’ll be dropping an album title and artwork once the final mastering begins. So get ready because soon after we’ll be dropping 12 tracks of pure chaos. And this is just one in a series of new exciting news that we’ve got in store for our fans, new and old. Fans that have been with us from the beginning, thank you. Fans that just found us even a couple days ago, thank you, welcome aboard, buckle up and keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times. Welcome to the family.

YOU GET A BASS DROP!
EVERYONE GETS A BASS DROP!!!!
Bass drops. Bass drops everywhere!
So if you haven't been following my band's social media then you might have missed this and the big news along with it; we're in the studio recording a full length album.
I went in the week of Christmas and slammed out 12 drum tracks in 4 days and now we're getting ready to finish up tracking guitars and vocals and then will finish up everything next week with bass, sound effects, backing tracks and yes... bass drops. Lots of them. Maybe not Above This level of bass drop abuse... but close. Kyo Pandafox, I'm looking at you.
Everything is being recording, mixed and mastered by Dan Jones of Chelsea Grin and it'll be ready to drop in March. Around the same time we premier our very first music video. That's right, a mothafuckin music video. So much excitement and anticipation going on, hell I'm tempted to post up some of the unmixed and unedited demo tracks that we've gotten bounced so far.
Matty Baggins out.

Band Merch
Posted 11 years agoI'll most likely be posting some new designs for It's Awake merchandise. I've got a few ideas I want to sketch up and knock out and hopefully have printed before our next show. <-- Speaking of which, as soon as we got off stage at Motionless In White the show promoter came up to us and booked us for another show right then and there. So... we'll be playing with Get Scared on November 9th. Excited for this one too since Get Scared are hometown heroes like Chelsea Grin here and have a pretty decent following in the Salt Lake area
Anyways back to shirts and stuff. I started us a LabelState SO if you want to get some currently online exclusive It's Awake t-shirts, head over here and place an order http://www.labelstate.com/a/its-awake/
As for new designs there's two ideas I'm floating on:
1) My Abomination themed shirt. Woman clad in wolf fur, essentially wearing the skin of the former pack leader, wolf head helmet, battle paint with the wolf pack behind her in the back ground and our logo either on the top of bottom of the piece
2) Monster girl with tentacles. Mike wanted a shirt that said "I <3 Tentacle Porn" I said no and this idea is my counter to that... My band mates are weird but if I can nail this design in my head, it'll look pretty damn sweet.
A couple other designs I've tossd around in my head is logo shirts featuring altered Utah sports teams logos (Chelsea Grin did one of the Utah Jazz), thinking either the U of U Utes, BYU Cougars, Utah Jazz or maybe even the Salt Lake Bees <-- Jake wants a baseball style logo shirt so this could work or I'll draw one up myself
I'm always looking at new things to get my band's name out there in the way of merch so if anyone has any suggestions that they'd like to see. Lemme know

I'm opening for Motionless In White :D UPDATE
Posted 11 years agoTHAT. Was an incredible concert.
This was honestly one of the best nights of my life, without any exaggeration
Packed house. Sold out show. We got on stage and completely killed it and the Motionless In White got up and completely destroyed the stage. It was so good. Not to mention the quick guest vocals by Pablo from Chelsea Grin.
Shared the stage with MIW. Got to chat and hang with Pablo for a couple minutes and the fucking we go to Denny's after the show together as a band and in walks Chris, Ghost and Balz. So we got to chat, take some pictures and then basically eat dinner with Motionless In White... I couldn't be happier... Well I could, getting laid somewhere in all of this would've been icing on the cake but oh well

Posted 11 years agoI know it's been a while since I've posted anything here but first thing's first. I'm so fucking proud of my little band, It's Awake. We got a phone call about a month ago from the biggest promoter her in Utah asking us to jump on a show after he hear our single My Abomination. This show turned out to be with none other than Motionless In White.
Words cannot express how excited I am for this Sunday. We're sharing the stage with one of the biggest metal bands in the world on an off date of their current tour (This means that they're on tour right now but had a couple days off in between shows and what did they decide to do? Book a show in Salt Lake City, just them and local bands). Seriously though, Motionless In fucking White, one of my favorite bands and I get to share the stage with them... It still blows my mind with this chance.
Other It's Awake news includes some more lineup changes that we made a couple months ago. Our long time lead guitarist, Skyler was let go. Our bassist Josh left for a while and was replaced by a good friend of ours, who's now leaving and then Josh came back to us. Our new guitarist Ryan is fitting in nicely, we recorded our single and have been writing new music. We're planning to skip doing another EP and going straight for the kill with releasing a full length album independently. We are planning to work with Dan Jones of Chelsea Grin once again. In all we're looking at a CD that has 10-15 songs including the first piece of an epic saga we are planning (each piece being an 8-10 minute long song containing a piece of the story to a saga we've been writing). Ideally we'll be hitting the studio again either starting in October or November with the album dropping hopefully the first part of 2015.
Oh in life news, I'm still single, surprise surprise but I do have a milestone. As of the end of August I reached the one year mark of working at my current place of employment, which hasn't happened since 2009. Seriously, I'm grateful to be where I'm at now and I'm working my way through adulthood. Started working out and eating a lot better as well, no more fat chunky Matty Baggins, within the next couple months, I'm going to be a lean mean sexy machine and there probably won't be anymore shows I play that I won't take off my shirt or strip.
And with where I work I can now say this; if you guys have a need to print any banners, posters, cards, car wraps, trade show displays, stickers, vinyl decals, need building or electrical signs, giant wall graphics; hit me up and we'll see what we can do for you... Seriously though, all my bands stickers and stage banners I got to print them at work and it's awesome
Anyways, life update finished

Just got home from Battle For Mayhem Fest
Posted 12 years agoMy band was one of 15 on the bill and I gotta say; we killed it. So stoked over how the show went and then finding out that we're highly considered for being one of two bands that are being selected for playing the Boise, Idaho stop for Rockstar Mayhem Fest. Oh and did I mention there was an A&R Rep from Sumerian Records? Well, we had a great sit down with him and got some tips, advice and a critique. A very good critique I might add.
This night has been really awesome, I couldn't be happier to tell you the truth. I'm one step closer. Touring the nation and the world playing music while waving the Sumerian flag... I can see myself doing that, and having someone tell me that "You guys have the talent, you have a lot of potential, you just need to work on this and this...." Is just mindblowing.. in a good way.
Now comes three shows within two weeks: A cool outdoor locals only show, opening for Serianna on their Road To Roots Tour and then the next night, Gorilla Music Battle of the Bands
.
I am a busy wolfy

It's Awake news
Posted 13 years agoOkay, so a new update about my band It's Awake.
We have ditched our old bassist, Josh. Good riddance as he's turned out to be someone we didn't know at all and has gotten to the point where even the passive aggressive one of the group (me) wants to kick the shit out of him. He really turned out to be one of the most undesirable people I've ever met and has rubbed me the wrong way, the thing that's now inching me closer to knocking him out is constant threats of fighting us and taking a knife to us when we run into him at local concerts and then not only hitting on our new band manager, but calling her a cunt several times when he found out she was with us. I'm now waiting for the straw that breaks the camel's back with this kid.
As I mentioned, we have a new band manager. She's a beast and really looking forward to seeing how far she can take us in the future.
We have a new bassist, Peter. You'll be seeing him soon as we are getting in to get some new band promo shots.
AND
We're heading for the studio next week. That's right, studio time for me and the guys, fucking excited. I can't tell you guys how much and how long I've been waiting to hit a professional recording studio. I'm pumped. We're going in to record a 3-5 song EP to release before the end of the year and will be printing merch to go along with it. So we've got new music AND shirts coming within the next couple weeks.
Finals news. We're entered into a contest and we need our fans' help right here, right now. So we're entered in to open for Woe, Is Me, Texas In July and Capture the Crown. Voting ends tomorrow. So how can you help? Glad you asked.
Go to the Kollective's facebook page, like the page then find our photo here: link. A like on our photo = a vote for us in this contest. So go, my minions. Go NOW!

Happy Digimon Day everyone
Posted 13 years agoThirteen years. Thirteen years have gone by since the first adventurous group of kids got sucked into the Digital World and became heroes. Thirteen years since I dropped Pokemon like a bag of bricks and never looked back. So to all of my watchers I personally wish you a Happy Digimon Day. Thanks for dropping by. Stay classy.

Posted 13 years agoI finally finished the Burst Angel series and I can honestly say, the final episode really pulled at the heartstrings.
Today I turn 24
Posted 13 years agoYep. It's my birthday today, 24 years old. Jesus, I feel old sometimes, that's horrible coming from someone my age but as most of my friends are just barely legal adults, it makes sense.
Anyways, Happy Birthday to me. *throws confetti*

1) Step back
2) Take a deep breath
3) GROW... THE FUCK.... UP
It's fucking funny. Get over yourselves

Ladies, why don't you like your own bodies?
Posted 14 years agoSo the story goes like this; I made a pop art piece featuring my mate, Kari, her figure is stunning and she has a perfect body. To be honest I think she’s perfect in every way. It is a mature piece that is based off of a picture of her and while she absolutely loves the piece, she’s told me not to post it or show it off on the grounds that she’s embarrassed by her body. So now my question is this; Girls, women, ladies and females, WHY is it, no matter how many people tell you you’re pretty, beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, stunning and/or amazing, you still do not see it? You beat yourselves up and beat yourselves down because some jackass that doesn’t mean two shits to anyone said you weren’t in the past. Stop it.
Life Update. WARNING: --long wall of text--
Posted 14 years agoNo I'm not dead. Just been busy over the last couple months is all.
For one I'm now finished with schooling, walking away with two finished Associates Degrees, one being in Web Design and Animation and the other being in Graphic Design. It's been strange not having to go to school anymore, taken a lot of getting used to and still am not used to by going back in the form of freelance work. But I'll get to that here in a moment.
Mid way through June I achieved something I had been longing for, a full time job AS a graphic and web designer for a local company, namely, Creative Bioscience. You may not of heard of them but you probably have heard of their flagship product, hCG and the hCG diet. I had a lot of fun there, for one getting to do what I love and had spent the last two years of my life pursuing through school and two the people I got to work with. One being my teacher and mentor over the last two years who left the school and got a sr. graphic designer job there and in turn helped me land a position there as well. My boss, Ike was amazing, one of the coolest mother fuckers out there, a dream boss essentially.
Now you may ask, "why are you talking about this in past tense?" Well, there's a reason, simply a deal fell through with Google and cost the company a lot of money and I was laid off after being with the company for only a month. It wasn't a matter of that there wasn't work for me to do, it was a matter of, they wouldn't be able to pay me for my time and work. The silver lining here is that they insisted on putting them down as job references and using their contact information for future employers so that I can land a job. I really did appreciate that token and they were blown back by how well I took losing my job. Given this was my second time being laid off from work in a matter of just over two years, the first being March of 2009 and now the second as of July 2011.
After a few days of pondering my next move in life I decided that, fuck it, I'm gonna go solo and do freelance work. Make my own way and build my own empire. This however was put off for a week as my family decided to go on a week long vacation driving from our home in Utah to the Oregon coast for my aunt's wedding. She's 65 and has been single for the last 30 years, lol. But you know what, my new uncle is a pretty cool laid back guy, even better is on our way home I got a call from my aunt saying my uncle Jerry wants a website for his business, he's a home remodeling contractor. Since I've been home I've been researching companies like his to see how they're web presence is put together and lining up the competition so that I can help him out the most.
During this trip we went to the beach, went whale watching and visited the Ripley's Believe It or Not museum in Newport, OR while we spent the first half of the week in Depoe Bay. Fucking gorgeous out there. Then it was in to Salem for the last half of the week for the wedding. Now, Salem is the capital of Oregon, BUT, it just doesn't seem like a capital city at all. Kinda out in the middle of nowhere, no major airports, it seems small even compared to Salk Lake City here in Utah.
But I did get to do more drinking than usual, which was odd considered my mom and dad were there and when we're at home, they're so against drinking alcohol of any kind. We had dinner our first night in Salem at RAM's which is a restaurant and brewery. My dad got a Oregon Blonde, not bad but I'm not a huge fan of beer at all. Now my drink on the other hand was a RAM's Watermelon Iced Tea, just another way of saying a watermelon flavored Long Island Iced Tea. Ab-so-fucking-lutely delicious. I had one almost pounded down before our food got there, which was also pretty damn amazing too. Keep in mind, Long Island Iced Teas are practically 90% or more alcohol containing a mixture of rum, vodka, tequila and gin among other things, but it doesn't sting and isn't bitter like you would expect. No. It LITERALLY tastes like tea. Needless to say, I had a pretty good, light buzz going on, almost felt like I was floating and a bit tired. Officially the most drunk I've ever been in my life.
The wedding itself wasn't bad either, not super boring, especially when your mom pounds back a bottle and a half of champagne by herself. Again, not a big fan of champagne or wine really. Had some good times hanging out with my favorite cousins who I hadn't seen in a few years. And on top of that I met one of the most bad ass pastors ever. The house next door to the wedding, yes it was in one my relative's back yards, another of my assumed relatives had a full band set up, drums, bass rig and guitar rig. Well without even knowing who they were I got to jam with them, some chill bluesy, rockabilly stuff. Come to find out, the bassist is the pastor for my aunt's wedding, he's also an old school metal guy but thanks to his son, who's a drummer like me, he likes bands like August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, Red, Demon Hunter and Lamb of God. A PASTOR.
Me and him talked about music, mainly metal for two hours after we had jammed, showed him some stuff that he ended up enjoying, like Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Iwrestledabearonce AND Dir en grey. Guys, I'll be honest, if we had more pastors, preachers and bishops like him. I'd start going to church again. I haven't had a bishop here in Utah, and yes I grew up Mormon, that was so cool and chill that I actually enjoyed going to church. Not since I was a teenager in scouts and in jr high and highschool.
Well with that behind me, I came home and am hitting the ground running as I launch myself into freelance work. So far I have one project down, thanks to one of my teachers from the college, with another locked in and third freelance project in the works. On top of that I've been in contact with
miharuokami to help her get a potential website put together for her fursuit building work. I've got another job coming up with a long time family friend who is needing a website and graphic work done for her jewelry business.
Among all of this, I also submitted a resume and job profile for a position at EA-Salt Lake, yes that's right, Electronic Arts, one of the biggest video game developers in the world. Now the waiting game to see if I get a call or email back from them. I have my fingers crossed because besides this freelance work, working in the video game industry would make me extremely happy and a dream come true.
That's it for now. But don't believe this is the last update you'll see. I have another one on the way and it needed to be separate from this for special reasons. I'll give you a hint: Her name is Kari, she's a leopardess and she is the smartest, sexiest and most beautiful woman in the world. I mean it. I fucking love this woman.
Well, if you've read the entire thing, see you soon. I'm taking graphic and web design projects. I'm also open for art requests, trades and gifts. If you want to see a sample of my work visit my freelance site.

What's this....
Posted 14 years agoMy friends, i have an urgent message.
Posted 14 years agoEvery year, more and more lives are taken by velociraptors. Many believe that they perished with the rest of the dinosaur population, but nothing could be farther from the truth. They live among us now, their ability to disguise themselves having improved greatly. To start, remember the following:
- Velociraptor attack is the 3rd leading cause of death for men age 27-29.
- Velociraptors hunt in packs, and are known to form an e...quilateral triangle around its prey.
- Velociraptors can open doors, but are slowed by them. They can open an initial door in approximately 5 minutes, and will take half that time for each subsequent door.
- **Velociraptors do not know fear.**
So how can we reduce the number of death by velociraptors? Raise awareness.
- They are crafty creatures, able to hide in any location, and able to easily disguise themselves as humans, some wearing things such as tophats and monocles.
- Stay away from picture windows, and low-placed windows on houses and buildings. These are their easiest entrances, and should be at the least reinforced, if not avoided altogether.
This list will be built upon. Please invite others, so that the knowledge may spread.
