Quick Update
Posted 10 years agoSo it's been a while since I've posted anything on here. The good news is that my holidays were filled with love and fun and I've kept myself busy with work and making money since they ended.
Unfortunately I missed Fur Squared because I was out of the country for business. The good news is that MCFC is only a few weeks away...this month even!
I'll be at MCFC of course and until then there are no big updates with me. I miss chatting with people. Feel free to drop me some notes of emails and messages on my phone. I think I'd enjoy a few furry conversations with all my buddies :)

I survived MFF!
Posted 11 years agoSo unlike last year where I saw almost everyone I knew that would be there at the expense of any real quality time, I did the opposite this weekend. I know I didn't get to say hi and bye to everyone or dash around into all the panels and events that I usually do, but this time I was just trying to chill. I spent a bunch of time with a handful of my dear and closested friends, including
silversillyena the birthday hyena,
xanderfoxfire his cute mate,
pandez the ever so entertaining,
alkalibismuth the loud, and
xandertheblue who rocked at his standup this weekend. And sure there's a ton more I ran into for a couple of minutes and said hello, but if I wasn't by myself, I was probably with one of those people or with my mates.
The whole convention was pretty great as a whole. I'm sure everyone has heard about the incident Saturday Night, but I won't need to go into any details about it other than I made it out safe and sound with a bunch of my friends and we were completely drunk and freezing >.<
Sunday was a bust for me because of the evacuation and I had to leave early because I kept passing out from lack of rest from the previous day. I made it home and passed out pretty much as soon as I came through the door. So if I didn't get the chance to say good bye to you I apologize. I'll see you guys again in due time, or at the next convention I go to, Fur Squared :)

Post Convention Report
Posted 11 years agoI'm fucking tired!
Oh yeah, convention was awesome....I ejected straight back into work so yeah. I'm gonna take a few days to let stuff sink in, then read other people journals and post my own this weekend. Right now I'm too damned tired though, so I just want to say thank you to everyone who hung out with me and showered me with praise and also..... wtf is wrong with you people? :p
I'm a big derp, maybe people like that.
Laterz!

Almost Free! oh..and IFC!
Posted 11 years agoSo yeah, past 5 or 6 weeks since Anthrocon have been full of....work...and money, woot!
And then a flood that ate my car..... :\
Good news is that I have a new car. I'll be at IFC Thursday Night, and I've got money to spend on commissions.
So minions! If you want to get any art done with me, or would like to draw me, send me a note and I'm sure I can throw some money around and make it happen :)
After IFC I'll hopefully get some more free time and hey, maybe I'll try my own hand at some art or writing or just chatting with people more.
Until next week....take care!

Furry Life on Hold Until IFC
Posted 11 years agoWell, that's about it. Work has been keeping me so busy lately that I haven't had a weekend to myself in 3 weeks. So yeah, my furry life is on hold until Indy Fur Con. Hope to see you guys there.
Work Work Work...oh, and Anthrocon!
Posted 11 years agoSo busy lately, was going to make a big catch up post and stuff on here this weekend, but I got stuck doing overtime at work. I fucking hate working the weekends. Even worse, I've been working on my Costume for Anthrocon so I've had like zero time to do anything else, even socializing is difficult if it involves me sitting down in front of a computer screen. Been on the move so much. Luckily, if you have my cell phone # I've been doing alright responding to that.
Anyways. I'll be at AC Wednesday night, but really won't be free to hang out until Thursday. I'll stick around till closing ceremonies on Sunday, then I head back home. I took monday off of work for recovery, so maybe by then I can actually catch up on emails, social media, furry stuff, and upload pictures/art I get done.
If you want to find me at Anthrocon, but you don't have my cell #, PM me on twitter (at)derptravis with your cell #, that will be the only time I'll be online probably through my smart phone. I'll text you back with my number when I check my messages.
Also, pleeeeease if you call me during Anthrocon and I don't answer, I am probably running around in fursuit. PLEASE leave a voice mail because if you don't I'll just assume missed calls are butt-dials. And while texts are quick and easy, calling me by voice will get my attention the fastest.
And with that, I hope to see you guys soon :)

Godzilla Review? Why not!
Posted 11 years agoSo I've seen a ton of people posting reviews about the latest installment of Godzilla and I figured I'd post my own little review. I might post a review of the new X-men movie, but why bother, just like every other Marvel movie, then only things I have to say about it are good, so go watch it.
Anyways....
Godzilla, or big green as I affectionately call him, has spawned an entire franchise of giant animal monsters attacking cities. In the furry fandom this seems to have radiated out into a substantial amount of art and stories. An entire section of furry can be called 'macro' because of big green. Now I've never understood how you can turn that into any sexual kink or anything, but the idea of smashing through a city as a giant monster...I've loved that idea ever since I was 5 years old. So if you know anything at all about Godzilla I shouldn't have to explain anymore. Hopefully most of you have seen the orginal Godzilla movies and not just the 1998 abomination where godzilla didn't have a dick and somehow changed her size back and forth through the movie depending on camera angles...
Pros:
1) The Monster - I love the creature design of big green for this movie. Back to the bulky towering figure he used to be instead of some sleek super agile alien newt.
2) The tone - Finally a godzilla movie that was the perfect mix between Horror and Suspense like the old ones. This was not an adventure movie...this was not an action movie. Bad things happened and we couldn't do anything to stop it. The music really captured the emotions of the movie.
3) Sticking to the Classics - The way he rises out of the water and walks, his roar, even his atomic breath. I love that they put all of these into the movie to make me feel like a kid again while I was watching this.
Cons:
1) Undeveloped Characters - I didn't understand why they would spend the first part of the movie introducing a nuclear physist only to kill him off abruptly and have his death serve no other purpose. He didn't do anything heroic, He didn't leave anything behind to help stop the menace. Before he died they just tortured him needlessly with that "fifteen years later" backstory that made him look like a crackpot where he was never really vindicated. The Son in the movie was also given little backstory, where his one useful skill (disarming bombs) was never even used! He spent all the time building up and trying to disarm a bomb in the last moments of the film only to roll over and take a nap at the end instead of completing his mission. LAME.
2) Short Monster Battles - Godzilla is about Monsters fighting. The first half of the movie never even shows two monsters on the screen at once. When you finally get a chance to see them fight in Hawaii, they close a door and cut away to news footage after the event. What the fuck? I wanted to see them fight! They do this several times where you expect to see a really good monster fight and either cut it short or just go to another part of the story. I can understand running multiple plot points simultaneously, but it didn't allow me to ever enjoy the monster battles like I wanted to. Also, it seemed like whenever they actually grappled instead of just slapping and biting each other around, the fight ended four seconds later when Godzilla killed the monster. For the first part of the fight, Godzilla just got knocked around constantly, not really inflicting any damage at all to the other monster, then with his first good move he outright kills it. I wanted more back and forth.
3) Retention of Disbelief - While they got it right with the people's reactions in this movie, they messed up with some of the situations. I liked how the military didn't engage Godzilla unless they got spooked and Godzilla's reaction to the attacks showed that he had some intelligence and didn't want to harm the humans. I didn't like how the monster at the beginning escaped because they were unprepared to stop it. They had 15 years to develop ways to keep it restrained and kill it, but when it actually starts to escape I was wondering where all the artillery and missiles were. Where was the pocket nuke in the bottom of the cocoon? The worst part is at the end of the movie after they explain that the nuke they have is 1000 times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb and when it goes off in the harbor (less than 5 miles from downtown SF) somehow it doesn't destroy the entire city. And people are just walking around the city around a giant monster hours after A FUCKING NUCLEAR BOMB WENT OFF. Ever heard of radiation sickness or nuclear fallout?
All in all, I only had those three things that bugged me, and it wasn't a bad movie. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. I think if you really enjoyed this movie though, you should go back and watch a couple of the 1970s and 1980s Godzilla movies. Just ignore the silly rubber costumes and bad dialogue from translations. If you can let your imagination take over a little bit instead of needing to have computer generated special effects forcefed into your eye holes, I think you'll really enjoy classic Godzilla.

Furries on Video!
Posted 11 years agoOkay, so yeah I've been a bit busy with my new job and everything, but somewhere I managed to squeeze about 2 days into working on all the footage I took at Great Lakes Fur Con, so I made a music video and posted it to Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajPQiSDEyiw
It's around 10 minutes long, so if you're interested at all in seeing it, just take a peek. It's my first video ever and the camera I used was crap, so please be kind. I might make some more of these if people like them.
And now...to post the link to all the awesome people who starred in my video!

What's a good song for a con music video?
Posted 11 years agoSo I've been playing with the footage from the last convention I went to, GLFC and even though I realize my camera is crap and I want a better one by the next con, MCFC, I still want to practice with what I have to make a video. I don't want the video to be silent or just ambient either, so I need a little help.
Does anyone have a few suggestions for music or songs to put the Great Lakes Furry Con video to?

Useless Update
Posted 11 years agoQuick update to what I've been up to since GLFC:
Got Hired for a new Engineering Job (already 20 hours of OT, yay.....)
Gotten Sick twice on the 3 weekends since.
Been working on stuff with Staff at MCFC (will likely have a panel there)
Been looking at Video from GLFC to make a montage music video or something. THere's already a few out there so it looks like people really loved that con. :)
I realized that my 2006 Cannon Digital Camcorder is WAY out of date. The image quality is piss, but I'll put together a video for practice anyways. I'm looking to get a Go-Pro mini cam before MCFC.
No other plans until then, March looks pretty open for me if anyone wants to hang out or is hosting any events or furmeets. Just send me a note if you want to invite me. Now that I'm not in College anymore I usually don't have any homework over the weekends :)
Weeknights....not looking to drive anywhere more than 10 miles away and need to be back by 10 PM to my own house....kinda lame since I don't get home until 6PM
So other than that....all systems ahead at full...oh...and Broke hyena is getting a payday now, so time to climb out of college debt

Posted 12 years agoJust got back from Great Lakes Fur Con
Tired as all hell
Had a freakin blast
I love almost the entire staff that was there! (and the ones I don't include are only the ones I didn't meet or chat with)
Probably one of the most emotional (and I mean this in a very good way) cons I've ever been to
First year running, well played for less than 6 months of prep time before the event.
I loved the close knit family feel of this con and all my friends there.
Oh, and here's a picture of the all the fuzzies that
abrahm took for the Con: http://www.abrahmphoto.com/Events/G.....14/i-JHSpFCJ/A

Posted 12 years agoDone with school, more gaming, less furry RP and hours on IMs, A little Twitter here and there, WAY TOO MANY CONVENTIONS, a lot of drama with a happy ending, made way too many friends to have enough quality time with them all, and also, got a fursuit: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12634377/
Great Lakes Furcon meme
Posted 12 years agoSo for those of you who don't know about it yet, in about 10 days there's a new convention in Western Michigan called Great Lakes Fur Con. This is it's first year, but since it's close to me and I sorta know the people running it, I have to go. You can check out more at: http://greatlakesfurcon.com/ or visit their FA page at
greatlakesfurcon
So as for the Meme thing? I dunno how this works exactly, but I'm supposed to ask myself a bunch of stupid questions and post the answers next to them right? I guess if people like it they can cut and paste or whatever. I'm about to make a fool out of myself
GLFC Meme
Where are you staying?
The hotel of course
When will you be there?
When I feel like it...probably from Thursdays night to Sunday Afternoon
How are you getting there?
Driving. Car full
With whom shall you be sharing your living quarters with?
Max Cheetah, no one else
How can some one spot you?
Succeed in a spot check of DC 11 with a +3 to the roll if you have the Knowledge: Fursuits Skill
Do you have a Fursuit? If so, will you be in suit at all?
Yes. And very much so. Probably about 60% of the time I'm there
Are you an artist?
Sorta.....
Can I mooch free art off of you?
Nope, but I'm open to art trades.
Can I throw money at you and receive commissioned art?
I would not recommend it.
Do you know any popufurs out there?
popuwhat? um.....Pass.
Can I talk to you?
It's a free country bub.
Can I touch/hug you?
Always ask in person first. ....and yeah probably. I'm an attention whore.
Can I hang out with you?
Only if I know you, but you can try to get to know me. If I don't like you I'll tell you.
Can I buy you drinks?
Yeis, Yeis, You are my friend now. Let's hang out :D
Are you taken/mated with anyone?
Whoa now.....don't push the friend space. I am not available for romance.
Look at this art of my character.
That's.....that's not a question.....
Are you into musk?
WTF? There is a reason soap and deodorant were invented. If you stink, you are not my friend.
Where/what will you be eating?
Food when it's available. Not picky
Can we maybe share dinner or lunch?
As long as the group size remains under 6 I'm down for it
Are you going to any panels?
Probably. Whatever fursuit panels I like. Nothing in particular, ask me at the con.
Are you performing at all?
Fursuiter, duh
Are you going to any parties?
Only the cool ones. And if you have to ask which ones they are, you're probably not invited :3
Can I hang out in your room at all?
Who knows...only friends allowed in there. My room is not a party room.
What are you hoping for at this convention?
Hoping to have a metric f-ton of fun without any personal drama. Looking forward to mild boozing and heavy acts of silliness. I want to snuggle up all my friends, get tons of pictures and just make people smile. Making people happy, that's my goal ^_^

Hoping to have a metric f-ton of fun without any personal drama. Looking forward to mild boozing and heavy acts of silliness. I want to snuggle up all my friends, get tons of pictures and just make people smile. Making people happy, that's my goal ^_^

Michigan Furmeet in Frankenmuth
Posted 12 years agoSo one of my friends told me there was a furmeet close by in Frankenmuth and that it's fursuit friendly. Check out the link here: https://www.facebook.com/events/255.....ilter=upcoming
I'll probably be going this Sunday to hang out with some friends, although I really only know two of the people going. It's going to be cold as hell and mostly outside, but I'll bring a coat to wear over my suit and be plenty warm ^_^
If anyone else wants to come along just comment below and I'll try to find you there.

Posted 12 years agoSo for the life of me, I until today haven't been able to clearly understand the obsession that Bronies have with the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic TV show. This group of people has always struck me as some weird cult of outcasts or pedophiles or homosexuals obsessed with a little girls' cartoon. In all honestly, I never questioned my presumptions or stereotypes associated with the group. I never took the time ever to actually figure out what was going on with this strange group of people. Every time I asked a Brony why they liked it so much or what the point to being a brony was, the only answers I got were along the lines of 'Oh my god the show is amazing!' or 'The animation is stellar and the characters are so deep' and sometimes a 'There's so many important lessons from the show.'
Any time I would pry deeper to try and figure out the appeal or even bring up the adult aspect of the fandom, I was kinda shut out, or the bronies would clam up and not really know how or want to elaborate. From personal experience in life, when I get a reaction like that, I immediately assume that some one is trying to hide something. Usually when some one wants to hide something, I assume that it is something nefarious or taboo. I didn't even consider the fact that maybe they were just shy or fearful or being teased if they told me their true feelings. Now that I realize this I kinda feel like a jerk.
So what made me change my mind? Well, like I said, I've come across quite a few bronies in college and other places, soI've had experiences with them. I recently saw a documentary posted on Netflix called "Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony" and after view it, alot of the pieces started to fall into place so I could finally understand the whole picture and appeal. If the documentary was accurate in portraying the 'typical brony' then I can see why they've come together in this weird amalgamated fandom of cartoons, art, music, and animations. It's very similar to the furry fandom, except there are distinct differences.
From what I can understand, bronies are typically young males who are introvertive, very creative, lonely, and somewhat if not very obsessive. I feel like the majority or bronies have missed out on their childhoods, either having a poor upbringing or having faced traumatic events. Or they may just be a weird kid that never had friends growing up. The reason they say MLP has so many good lessons in it makes me believe that they were never exposed to these lessons until they saw them on the show. It's almost as if they've had a stunted social development and for the first time they are understanding these very important life lessons that most of us learned before we turned twelve years old. Many bronies also seem to see their own character traits reflected in the characters of the show. That's why they seem to think the cartoon characters are so deep. It's a character they can relate to more than any other shallow characters you typically see in primetime TV or other cartoons. I've seen the show and I do have to admit, that the ponies do have more depth than the majority of televisions now days. I guess reading novels is going out of style in today's societies where character development is so much more intricate and there are parts when I would read a book and actually have to set it down for a few moments to catch my breath. I have always had a pretty powerful imagination however.
I do consider the majority of Bronies as very creative individuals, but I don't consider them very imaginative. That may sound strange to say, but this is what I mean: Imagination is about bringing to life something new that has come from your mind. Creativeness is about taking something seen or imagined and giving it form. The bronies are very creative with their music, art, and costumes. One of the appeals of the Brony produced stuff is it's ability to capture pop cuture and that's probably why it spread like wildfire along the internet.
Bronies are by nature outsiders. The cartoon was developed with a target audience of preteen girls, not teen to middle aged men. But honestly, is that so wrong? Compared to the majority of male targeted media, MLP lacks much of the violence, competition, and strife that is considered suitable for young male viewers. If it's a maturity factor, then this show should be compared equally as a 'little girl show' with popular 'little boy shows.' Why is it strange for a male in his thirties to like watching MLP, but normal for that same male to enjoy watching G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Star Wars? If you really look at it, all of those shows are just as silly and childish. The only difference is that they are stories about overcoming conflict by fighting and resolving violence with more violence. MLP seems to be more about resolving conflicts through working together and getting to understand your friends instead of jumping to conclusions about them. And isn't that the problem most people have about bronies? Jumping to conclusions and assuming the worst about these people?
There are deviants, I know. Every fandom from Trekkies to Furries to whatever you call Harry Potter fans has a large population that writes slash fiction and draws adult art. Welcome to the human condition, we get horny, we like to have sex, and we express our sexuality in weird ways. If we didn't, then sex would rapidly become boring, especially with the existence of the internet today. I felt that the documentary I saw avoided that topic however, other than one moment where 'clopping' was brought up. I think the major suspicion for deviance among bronies arises mostly from the secretive nature of bronies. People mistake their shyness to talk about and openly obsess about ponies as an attempt to hide their true nature. I honestly think at this point that it's more about the brony not wanting to feel ostracized by his peer group. Every brony I know that has actually been into the adult aspects of MLP has not been shy about sharing it.
Being a Brony isn't some gay or infantile thing. I think it's more about community now. Bunch of shy outsiders and awkward people found something that made them feel better about themselves. It gave them a model of something better to be. The internet gave these people a voice to express themselves and to communicate with each other about these feelings of joy and happiness produced by a cute little cartoon show. And if you kick all the trolls into the gutter, then what you are left with is a strange family of people wishing that the real world could be more like the MLP world of Equestria. A world where problems are resolved with rationality and caring for one another rather than the use of force or authority. It's a place where any problem can be solved by working together rather than competing with one another to take all the glory for yourself.
And in all honesty, it is a bit of a fantasy or dream to think like this. But the weird thing is that these guys are actually trying to live that dream when they get the chance. Whether writing music, drawing art, compiling animations, chatting on skype, or attending a convention, at least they are trying. The truth is, if more people tried to follow their dreams and received encouragement from their peers instead of opposition and pessimism, perhaps the world as a whole could become a better place.
So if that wasn't TLDR and you enjoyed reading it or think some one you know should read it too, go head and share the link to this journal to your friends
