Lazy-ass, pt. 2
Posted 17 years agoBleh, distractified the last couple days...
Got a major runaround Monday trying to get my new phone...several transfers, a few disconnects and weird technical issues, and two escalations later, I had word from a supervisor in Customer Lifecycle Management that if I could get a manager in Business End-User Care (I'm a business customer because of my corporate discount) approving an early upgrade (early? I'd never been told before that it would be early, but whatever...) then CLM could process it; BEUC couldn't because I wanted a refurb. Monday night I called BEUC again and had rather a pleasant conversation with another sup, who did indeed notate my account to authorize the early upgrade; then yesterday before werk I called CLM again, who ordered my new phone (and waived the priority shipping charge FNAR o.o) and said that since they had to pull it from a different warehouse, it would take 3-5 business-days to arrive. Now, I thought she was being pessimestic...
...Which proved to be even truer than I thought, as it arrived today! O.O One business-day and change, with processing time, pulled from a remote warehouse, during the holiday season; holy crap! I'd personally expected at least two. Now I get to grumble about having to repurchase my IM client, as the version I had isn't compatible with touchscreens. >.< Another $30 down the drain, not to mention replacing my games...*mutter* But all that aside, this Tilt is fuckin' awesome. Massive amounts of storage-space and memory, a touchscreen that uses a stylus but can be fingered if you're careful about it...mrowr. It's a sexybeast of a phone. X3
We did our traditional Christmas-Eve single-present-unwrapping, and it ended up being all munchies. XD

Happy Solstice!!!
Posted 17 years agoThat's right: For those who don't know, the Winter Solstice was today (Sunday) at 5:03 AM. My family had a nice little holiday dinner about 4pm, with all the goodies - turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes, two kinds of gravy, rolls, salad with like half-a-dozen different flavours of dressing, cranberry sauce, olives both black and green, pear tomatoes, green onions, candied yams, and Adri's now-traditional carrot-and-turnip...casserole? Yeah, I guess you could call it that. We also had a couple of new things: My stepgramma rolled out an old family tradition of hers in the form of creamed cocktail onions - that was a nice little side-dish - and my mom (possibly with Gramma) also made a sort of sweet-potato cobbler with pecan-spice crusting; haven't tried that yet, but it sounds intriguing. Oyeah, and three kinds of pie - pumpkin, mince, and ... er...crap, I can't remember what the third one was! >.<

Yay for Saturdays.
Posted 17 years agoFun day - had lunch with local friend Jay/Haji, and we ended up being joined by David/Blade, the other member of out little triumvirate, who just got back last night for holiday vacation from his schooling at Le Cordon Bleu Las Vegas. Mrrrr, sushi.
Blade and I then visited another couple friends of ours, the lot of us got our shred on GH3-style (still can't get more than a quarter of the way through TtF&F with him playing lead on Easy and me playing rhythm on Expert - think we finished like 14%), then we knocked about here for a bit before I took him home.

Posted 17 years agoSo I couldn't order my Tilt tonight, because the website only follows standard upgrade rules and the department I'd need to call is only open 7-7 CT. Unhappy catvixen. *tail-lash*

CIV: Restarted the Russia game. Declared a brief war on Ysabel for the express purpose of eliminating a single settler of hers - boy, do I feel dirty for that one! It allowed me to hem her neatly in her corner, though. Now 1000BCE and I've founded Judaism and Confucianism, she has Christianity and Hindu, and Asoka has Buddhism and Taoism; Islam isn't in play yet. Starting to be irritated by barbs.

Woohoo!
Posted 17 years agoMy jacket and trousers arrived more-or-less on-schedule! ^.^ Though the trousers are a shade tight. .x
Werk had a holiday luncheon today, which I missed because I got a call half-an-hour beforehand that ended up lasting two hours!! *cries*
Games
Last night's WWE action: Rumble won by Sagat, who lost badly attempting to take the Intercontinental title from The Rock, appearing to get the wind knocked out of him by a Rock Bottom and pinned. Second RR won by Sylvain Grenier, who took the British HW title from Hollywood Hogan in a 60min no-DQ Ironman match (9-6), but failed to retain it in the 30min Ironman rematch with managers Christian and Scotty 2 Hotty.

I'm such a lazy-ass...
Posted 17 years agoBeen too long since I updated, meh.
Registered all but one of the classes I wanna take when I restart skewl in January, so currently my schedule looks like:
MWF
11am - Intro to Philosophy
Noon - Principles of Microeconomics
TR
1pm - Acting I (for non-majors)
Micro's a refresher, Acting's a retake of a class I flubbed before I left. Intro Philosophy's a gen-ed; I'm intrigued to see just what they do with it.
I'm also trying to get into the MWF 2pm Business Calculus class, but having a bit of an issue because it's supposedly been a bit too long since I took the preq College Algebra class; I'm currently working with the Math and Econ department-heads to get that kink worked out.
Last week I ordered a new winter jacket and trousers, and I'm really hoping they get here tomorrow as scheduled because right now I'm running around in freezing weather in a jacket that's basically a glorified shirt! >.< Also, I'm getting a new phone; check it out! http://tinyurl.com/25mweg
Games
MUGEN: Haven't worked on it for a while, still. Contemplating (once I've integrated all my recent acquisitions) re/introducing older variants of all the chars I have where available, to the end that every major version of each char I have is present - that is, even if they also appeared in SF3, I'll also have the SF2 and MvC versions active (Ken's a good example there).
WoW: Haven't been on since last update; been preoccupied with...
CIV: Decided I wasn't quite finished with NwT after all, particularly since I don't have the memory to run CIV Gold and test modifications to it :(, so I downgraded it to a late beta (v0.8). I've got it mostly done now, might post another beta soon. Still have that Russia game going but started a new game to test the new build of NwT, which seems to be going pretty well; ended up as Cunhambebe of the Tupi. :D Picked up two super-early extra cities, later gave one up to a separatist movement led by Bolivar, nearly lost the other to a violent rebellion but managed to buy them off until I could improve their lot. Lots of neighbours, the closest ones being Dom Pedro II of Brazil and Nebuchadrezzar II of Babylonia. (and Bolivar, of course)
WWE: Meh, lots of stuff has happened here, enough that I think it'll be easier to just list the current champions. Also, I've gotten all the CaWs done, and opened the Rumbles up for shots at tag titles, though nobody's tried for one yet. Also, I have a couple of "imaginary" championships that I created to fill out what I felt were some gaps in the title structure, and rearranged the rest; here they are in order of prestige: (Titles in italics are on RAW, titles in bold are on SmackDown!, non-formatted titles are cross-brand)
Intercontinental - originally held by Batista, then Nocturne (my personal CaW), currently The Rock
United States - originally held by John Cena, then Vega (SF Shadaloo bossman), then Booker T, then The Big Show, then Vega again, briefly by Doug Basham (lost back in the mandatory rematch), currently Muhammad Hassan
WWE - originally held by Orlando Jordan, currently The Hulk (the Marvel hero, not Hogan)
Million Dollar - originally held by Carlito, briefly by Spike Dudley, then by Robért Conway, then by Donovan (friend's personal CaW), then by Wolverine, then by '80s Hogan
Triple-Tag - new title, vacant pending opening tournament; champions will have to defend vs. team formed by Wolverine
World Tag - not yet contested, held by Big Show & Kane
WWE Tag - not yet contested, held by The Chain Gang (John Cena & Paul London)
Hardcore - originally held by Mankind, briefly by Kurt Angle and Randy Orton, then by Kurt Angle again (permanently), currently by Mankind again, briefly by Tazz
Outlaw - Hardcore-style title using Stone Cold's old "smoking skull" belt; held by Stone Cold, briefly taken by Shawn Michaels and Wolverine
World Heavyweight - Limited to wrestlers 300lb and under; originally held by Ted DiBiase, then Snitsky, then Triple-H, currently Alex (from SF), briefly by René Duprée
[b]British Heavyweight - Brought over by "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, also limited to 300lb; currently held by Hollywood Hogan
Light-Heavyweight - Limited to 255lb; originally held by Tajiri, currently Bret Hart
Middleweight - Limited to 240lb, new title, vacant pending opening tournament; champion will have to defend vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.
Cruiserweight - Limited to 225lb; uncontested so far, held by Paul London
Welterweight - Limited to 180lb, new title, vacant pending opening tournament
Women's - uncontested so far, held by Trish Stratus
Notable alignment shifts:
Kurt Angle & Mankind - Double-turn (Angle to face, Mankind to heel) after Mankind failed to retake the Hardcore title
Carlito - Turned face after losing the Million Dollar title to Rob Conway
Spike Dudley - Turned face after being drafted to RAW, then back after failing to keep the Million Dollar title
Edge - Turned face after being drafted to SmackDown!
Hollywood Hogan - Turned heel in jumping to SmackDown! to contend for the British HW title, then back after winning it
Orlando Jordan - Turned face after losing the WWE title to The Hulk
Shawn Michaels - Buried Alive in an attempt to take the Outlaw title from Stone Cold; resurfaced several weeks later on SmackDown! as a face
Randy Orton - Turned face after failing to retain the Hardcore title won from Mankind
Will report tonight's action tomorrow.
Steel Panthers: Round II results: Losers' bracket: India db. Yugoslavia, Germany d. ANZAC, Nationalist China d. Russia, Canada db. Republican Spain, Great Britain db. Czechoslovakia, Thailand d. Poland, Red d. Belgium; Winners' bracket: France d. Green, Chinese Communists d. Japan, Netherlands d. USMC, Rumania db. Blue. Round III so far: Rumania d. USA, Green db. Nationalist China. Not running any tonight.

*ding!*
Posted 17 years agoIt's official: The college has readmitted me! Apparently I need to make an appointment with a counselor, whatever; that shouldn't be a problem.
I also finally received a package I've been waiting for: Eight CDs ordered for no charge other than shipping (which I'm pretty sure is overpriced, but overall, less than $30 for eight CDs is still damn cheap), three of which are replacements for old CDs I lost somewhere along the line; all but one of the rest are discs from which I downloaded at least one track some time ago.
Boyz II Men - II, Legacy (replacements)
Everclear - Songs from an American Movie Vol's One & Two (had copy
of AM Radio)
Don Henley - Building the Perfect Beast, The End of the Innocence
(had copies of several tracks)
Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (replacement, and yes that's the
full official title)
Poison'd!
FYI, Poison'd! is an entire album of covers by Poison, a few of which came out on their last GH compilation. Haven't listened to it yet, but it has lots of promising-looking tracks. (A Tom Petty cover, rawk!)
In other news, the first phase of my CIV modpack is complete - that is, NextWar Tritium is now available for download! You can check it out here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showt.....99#post7486299
I think I'll start doing regular updates on my games. I know a lot of you won't care, but y'all don't hafta read it. ^.^ Apart from those, I think that's about all I have for today...damn this one's long. O.o
MUGEN: Haven't worked on it for a while.
WoW: Cool shit happening RP-wise; my main char Aliyna may be on the verge of a permanent relationship. Still figuring out the whole pet-talent thing. :P
CIV: Still playing an original Next War Epic game as Pyotr I (Russia), on a three-nation Hub(?) world with Asoka and (blech) Ysabel I on the other spokes. As one might expect, Ysabel's expanding like vapour and Asoka's playing very compact; I've managed to contain her to only a small section of the hub area (lost the silver there, damnit) and am now pondering closing my borders...not really in a mood to piss her off atm tho. Also as one might expect, she's being a real miser when it comes to tech; she refuses to trade me anything unless Asoka's already discovered it - interesting part about that is that once he has, she as often as not gives me a better price for it.
WWE (SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006): Yes, I enjoy this game. :P Especially simulated matches. I actually have three separate files, each with its own unique set of created wrestlers; I'm still building the third, and with each pair of newbies I finish creating, I run a Royal Rumble and give the winner a shot at a random singles title that they're eligible for. When everyone's created I'll run a few more and prolly allow people shots at tag-team titles. Believe it or not, I'm currently in the middle of creating Batman. :D ...Hell, maybe I'll open that up even sooner now that I think about it, considering that there's only a 3/9 chance they'll go for them, even if the winner's a superheavyweight. Hrmmmm...
Steel Panthers: Running Olympic-style double-elimination tournaments in several categories, all involving various styles of armoured unit, and being repeated with slight variations each game-year. Running four medals instead of three, mainly because the spreadsheet I use for bracketting looks nicer that way; the extra is the (slight pun here) Steel medal, positioned above Bronze. The 1929 Armoured Car division has already finished, with the medals going to: Gold - Nationalist China, Silver - Chinese Communists, Steel - Poland, Bronze - Rumania. The Light Tank division is currently in the losers' bracket of Round II with Great Britain vs. Czechoslovakia already in progress.
Other stuff: Thinking about getting back into Europa Universalis III, especially since my stepdad acquired copies of the two expansions which include a lot of stuff I miss from EU2.
Hrmmmm...

NEWS!!
Posted 17 years agoWell...last night I officially applied for readmission to my college. I've already submitted for LoA from my work since they won't let me cut my hours far enough, and I don't see any reason why either would be refused, and I've already verified my eligibility for student aid, so everything should be in order...
Some days...
Posted 17 years agoOkay, so this minor CIV project of mine is turning into a major headache: I'm trying to merge Revolution (see my SMAX-mod thread; there's a link there) into the official Next War mod, and while the mechanics seem to be working, the custom interface elements aren't. RRRGH.
Geh, new habits are hard to get into!
Posted 17 years agoKeep forgetting to do this of an evening!
Well, I finally (after massive numbers of mostly-char DLs as noted previously, and actually a few more) finished the second day of my new tourney - see, I was in Day 50something; but I ended up having to switch to the newer Windoze version of MUGEN, whose default AI acts like the victim of an unauthorized frontal lobotomy unless you let it cheat, and those two things together greatly change the dynamic between the AIs. Haven't tabulated the results yet, and besides I'm not even thinking about ranking them until after Day III, so yeah.
In other news, I've decided to break away from the CIV SMAC mod-project I'd been involved with called Planetfall ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/forum.....play.php?f=278 ) and start my own; if you're interested in either CIV or SMAC/X, you can read about it at http://forums.civfanatics.com/showt......php?p=7430420 !

Well, that sucked.
Posted 17 years agoI stayed up too late last night. Again. Ended up getting about 5.5 hours of sleep, and I tend to need about 9. By the time my shift was about 2/3 over, I felt like something had run over me; and the fact that I hadn't really had enough to eat so far didn't help, I'm sure.
One of the things that kept me up late was trying to setup a new screenpack to hold all my new MUGEN chars. Eventually I decided I was tired of trying to discern little teeny portrait-squares and DLd one called Everything vs. Everything (EvE), found here: http://www.mugen-infantry.net/forum.....?topic=45821.0
Pretty slick the way they pulled that action off, considering that they didn't do anything different! Check it out if you use MUGEN with loooots of chars.

So I finally went and did it...
Posted 17 years agoYep, decided it was time to start one of these LJ-type deals, and figured this was the place to do it.
Those who don't know me, check out the link on my profile; that'll give you a decent idea who I am. Those who do, hey there; hope y'all enjoy this little insight into my daily life.
So, over the last few nights, I've added a huge number of chars to my MUGEN roster - for those who don't know, MUGEN is a 2D fighting-game engine (think Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Samurai Spirits, etc. - most of my chars are from those and related serials) that's designed on a modular basis, allowing the user to just create and/or plug in chars and stages to create their own game, even to the extent of changing the game's overall look. Check it out if you're interested; I can even provide some of my favourite haunts for it.
After several hours of testing, very few of them proved totally unworthy (while the version of Mike Haggar I found really is, I'm adding him in anyway, as it just feels wrong to have Gai and Cody without him), and a few of them even managed to replace older versions. It may amuse you to know that the main reason I got so many new chars is because the collector in me came out: I decided that I wanted to have every char from each of my favourite serials (not counting Soul and Tekken, which I don't think have even been touched for semi-obvious reasons), including duplicates from crossover serials - IE, two versions of the SF chars that showed up in the Marvel vs. CapCom series. Not the Marvel ones, though, as I count X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Superheroes as part of the MvC series.
If anyone's interested, I'll post my full roster with recent additions and see how many minds I can blow. :D
