Almost time for the local con! Heading down Thursday afternoon till Sunday night and spending time with  wolfyama, hanging out with tons of fun folks, doing the art show and trying out for the dance comp. Feel free to say hi!

I always describe going a con as a trip to another planet. The meaning of words change, the people, the relationships, the way you interact with people all seems to transform into something new and foreign, but at the same time, feels so familiar. Walking into MFWW was such a trip coming straight off of work into a hotel full of cartoon animal people, but the experience felt more like coming back to the home planet more than visit some far off world. Everywhere I seemed to step, I ran into someone else I knew, every room party seemed to be full of someone else who shouted "OH! I KNOW THAT GUY!" and every dance concluded with jumping and shouting with friends. I finally got a chance to meet so many people I'd only interacted with online and we had a great time! My comissioners were all wonderful and my room block mates were all some of my favorite people! I'm kicking myself over not getting a chance to enter floor wars, but the all of the dance competitions (especially the amateurs and closing group dance!) were all nothing short of inspiring and fresh! I made me anxious and excited for FC here in only 2 more months!

I wanted to give a quick shoutout to everyone who I got to make some fantastic memories with! Don't hate me if you're not included, I probably just drank too much to remember!

Hey everybody!

This journal is a bit of updates with going ons and con plans. Might be slightly boring, so feel free to skip to the TDLR;

I'm currently working on a large scale personal project (a few of you know what I'm talking about), so posting around will become fairly sporadic. As it starts to fall into place though, I'ill be posting pages from it here and to a special tumblr, but that's still a few weeks down the line. It's currently high concept stages and thumbnails, but I'm really excited to start actually getting into the nitty gritty soon.

I turned 24 two weeks ago and it was one of the best birthdays ever! I was in Atlanta at the time for FWA/visiting old college friends. My old roommate took us to the zoo (non-furries taking furries to the zoo? what?) and we had Korean BBQ with a huge group (14+) of all my old college buddies for dinner. One of my friend even made me a fancy tinfoil and paper hat with a super cute button! It was really wonderful and touching to see all my old friends again and good to see that so little has changed since graduation. I also got some incredible gift art from a bunch of really talented artists here!

The rest of the weekend was spent at FWA which was INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC, WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE IT! There were so many fantastic people (I'm not even sure I can name them all off!) and it really felt like everywhere I went there was someone who I wanted to talk to and hang out with. It was a really nice change of pace since cons are usually aimless solo wandering. There was so much friendly love being exchanged, it really warmed my heart! I don't think I've ever felt more loved than just hanging around with people that made the weekend so fabulous. Suiting for the first time was such a complete and total blast and know I understand why people want to do it do often. Watching the dance comp was definitely the highlight of the con (as they always are for me) and everyone involved was so talented and inspiring it makes me want to dance even more! The rave afterwards was tons of fun too and I have to say a big thank you to whoever managed to pick up my glasses off the floor after 1/2 a bottle of whiskey (two night of being a drunken hot mess in a row? Sounds like a good con). Needless to say though, it was one of my favorite experiences at a con so far and I'm mostly surely coming back again next year!

For future plans, I originally was planning on doing AC, but instead I'm going to be spending the weekend with my family. So, there is a good chance I'ill either end up at MFF or Burning Man for personal vacation time. Does anyone have a recommendation or could tell me about their experiences there? Are you going to either one? I'm interested in hearing from you!

TLDR: Sporadic posting for a bit, turned 24, FWA was THE BEST, and no AC, but Burning Man/MFF?

As of midnight last night, I've been on FA for an official year now! Wow, has the time flown by! I'm still totally BLOWN away by the amount of attention I've gotten on here. I've gotten more page views, follows and comments in ONE year than the FOUR years that I had a blog spot (which is just absolutely INSANE).

But, more than all the page views and biggest e-penises in the world, the most important thing I've received in the last year is the friendships of so many wonderful, creative, funny, charming, beautiful and talented people that I'm honored to call friends. Although I've been lucky enough to have many friends over the years throughout schooling and in the workplace, I've always felt like I was a misfit no matter where I looked. It was as if I wasn't meant to fit in anywhere. Whether it was through sports teams, music, religion, sexual orientation or art, I always felt I was puzzle piece trying to jam itself where it didn't go. There has been so many different places I've been, just desperate to find a place where I felt like I belonged, but I finally feel like I've found it here.

It still seems sort of silly that talking animals and fuzzy costumes has helped to create a place where I feel most at home, but it's true! I no longer have that gnawing thought in the back of my head of "Oh, you're just a bit too strange for this". I feel a sense of comfort and self happiness that I didn't even know existed.

So from the grungiest, leather, dive bars of San Francisco, to whopper and wine parties in San Jose to a gray overcast day at Ballard Locks, to the craziest, neon-lit, rooftop, drum circle dance parties in Pittsburgh, to the hottest, sweatiest dance floors of Atlanta, thank you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the watches, the comments, the favorites, the streams, the tweets, the follows, the crazy con dance parties, the J B Valentines, the fancy dinner parties, the teriyaki locusts, the tiny post-it-note drawings, the giant bags of cinnamon-orange iced tea, the last minute nights out on the town, the tiny figures that keep my plants company, the funny postcards, photos and drawings that litter my fridge and sketchbooks, and most of all, thank you, for giving me a place where I don't feel so alone anymore.

Also, thank you to my wonderful, amazing, talented, cute, and funny boyfriend who I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him!  WolfYama <3

I'm going to be taking FREE REQUESTS next Saturday from 9 PM to (probably) 2 AM PST/California Time.

I will be spending about 30/45 mintues on each as a base sketch and I will probably get through a good 4 to 6 although I can't make any promises.

If you're interested in getting a piece done, leave a comment with a description of the request and any reference. I will then pick a number at random and select the comment that corresponds to the order in which the comments are received. I will pick each one as I finish them, so your art could be called at any point in the night.

I just discovered some cool artists here and I thought I'd share them around!

#1.  rampack He's got a really effortless control of line and shape that is to be envied. His art is energetic and fairly serious, but it's always interesting.

#2.  reedtard If you like my art, you've love his stuff! It's in the same vein of flat shapes and textured brushes, but his exaggeration and control of shape has taught me a thing or two! He also tends to have some really fun subject matter.

#3.  ravenhallow She's got an amazing set of painting and sculpting skills that she uses to make these AMAZING little busts that you've probably seen floating around.
