Rant of the week - Rebecca Black's 'Friday'
General | Posted 14 years agoSo everyone at school is talking about how this girl, Rebecca Black's new song is the worst song of all time.
In case you havent heard it yet heres a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0
First off, I would like to say the song is pretty crappy. The girls voice is pretty nasally and the melody is forgettable.
But what I find hilarious about this song is that its an unintential parody of modern day pop.
Look at the lyrics.
Like all pop songs, it tries to somehow relate to teenagers. Like Justin Biebers 'Never Say Never', its about teenagers struggles through stress and bullying. Except, in this song, its blatantly obvious. It talks about eating cereal, going to school, even saying stuff like 'front or back seat which should I choose'. Do they really have to make it that obvious? They randomly threw together random crap they thought teens would relate to.
Another pop cliche is that you can hear the voice is autotuned, again adding to the hate because everyone knows she didn't even have to sing well. You can sing like crap these days and if you autotune it you'll be fine. So no points for effort there.
Then of course there's the attempt to appeal in boys with the fail rap interulude.
Alll the boys these days seem to be cool if they're into rap.
I notice most men at my school enjoy Wiz Khaflias song 'Black and Yellow'. Not neccesarily because its a good song its just because the popular kids like it, so they have to like it to.
Pop music would be bearable if the people who made it would put effort into it. These days, music is about money. Not about music. Gee, playing music for the enjoyment of music. Who woulda thought of that? I miss old bands like the Beatles and Big Band who didn't do it for money or fame but did it for the enjoyment of their music.
