Lack of Sense, Right Here
General | Posted 16 years agoUgh. I can't get anything done. Been too mental. Halp.
Well, not so much "halp" as "smack me and tell me to get to work if you see me online on a school night, as I apparently can't get shit done". I don't even know why I can't get shit done. One of things I have to do is write a thesis for Philosophy class tomorrow, and I'm fantastic at that. I love it. I just can't get my ideas together enough to sound intellegent. Dammit.
I wax philosophical when sitting on the floor in the bathroom. I have no idea why. Maybe it's like Snake and his box.
Saints won Super Bowl. Yay. Mardi Gras has commenced early. I don't mind football; I only mind the group of loud adults that come with it, especially when I'm supposed to be studying.
Jazz band is going well, even though I'm being an idiot and blank stare at the teacher when he uses terms I don't know. *lol not jazz person* Garage band...don't get me started. While I enjoy the fact that I'm teaching myself to play electric bass for the bands, I seem the -only- mutli-instrumented person willing to play it in our crowded band. Also, this vocalist is annoying me. She -only- does vocals, so she can't do anything else. Then the songs we chose to do the first day (before she joined) are all lower/guy range songs, and she is -nowhere- near able for that. She's tried "21 Guns" by Green Day, and tried to sing it as low as the original. I appreciate the effort she's trying to put in, but she sounds like Taylor Swift trying to make this rock ballad into sing-songy country pop, while effectively not staying in the correct notes/key. I'm going to weep if she takes over "Under Pressure" or "Jump" from me.
...
To those who read this, I apologize for being quite the snappy, sarcastic bastard to be around recently. Don't take it personally.
I think it's due to lack of social time with real friends. Or lack of hugs.
I can has hug?
Thought that going to see "Cyrano De Bergerac" this past weekend would help by satisfying my taste for romanticism. T'was a great production, very well played. It helped a little, until I remembered that once again my worst enemy, Singles Awareness Day, is fast approaching this weekend. Double dammit.
First official paycheck comes in on the 15th.
"Rent" is being performed by NCTC up in Gainesville this weekend. Would the one local friendy who possibly reads my insanity like to come?
Should head to bed. Gotta get up early. I want to skip so badly tomorrow, but of course that wouldn't be the "responsible" thing to do.

Job!
General | Posted 16 years agoI got the job at the environmental center! I'll be working Wed/Fri from 9am-2pm, starting this Friday. I need to ask the boss what my pay will be, but I know that there will be money of some sort, $8-$10/hr maybe.
Time to start saving for:
1. A-Kon
2. moving out
3. personal stuff
4. some college stuff
The only problem is that I'll be a little late to most gatherings now, unless those start happening later in the day. I still wanna see people. =(

A New Year
General | Posted 16 years agoA fresh journal entry for 2010. A proper one. Is it really a new year? Where'd the last one go? Someone send out a search party.
Started off the year over at Green One's house. It's been tradition to be among friends, and I'm thankful for it. We stood around out on the back porch with poppers and bubble wrap, counting down the minutes in the cold, moonlit night. There's nothing better than starting a new year with people who actually care. Plus, I got my first New Years kiss. Can't top that. =) I trust everyone reading experienced a nice start to their year as well.
We stayed up 'til almost 8am reading the infamously bad fic that shall not be named, and fell asleep to Star Trek. Not two hours later, I was woken up by Green One to learn that Meki got worse, and was showing flu symptoms, so we had to make an early exit. He's still not fully recovered, and keeps relapsing 'cause he's being an idiot.
Skip to...Saturday, yeah. My sense of a week has been destroyed from my lack of a real schedule. Meki pulled it together by the afternoon for us to wander off to Ft. Worth for a parental-titled "Family Day". I love the city. If I moved somewhere in the Metroplex, it'd be somewhere in Ft. Worth. Dallas may have the skyline, but FW has the culture. Basically, FW > D. Anyway, we started the day at the Water Gardens: a four-acre playground for the senses. It was an architectural gift to the city, a described "oasis within the city". Comprised of five different areas: the Quiet Pool, the Aerated Pool, the Active Pool, the Mountain, and the Stage. It was beautiful; even more so at night with the lights turned on in the water. The place made my inner romantic very happy. I would love to take people there next time. Also, you know the music from the Avatar trailer when we see the Pandoran mountains? Yeah, that music was playing in my head.
My favorite spot: The Active Pool. Note the size of the people compared to the walls.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.....rdens_2003.jpg
After we left the Gardens, we parked and wandered Sundance Square. Did you know that there's a bar at SS that features the biggest selection of booze in North Texas? Oh yes. Other than that, the area was populated and bustling with plenty of life. I also apparently looked like Meki's younger brother to strangers who we talked to/got talked to by. We finally decided to have dinner at P.F.Chang's, because Chinese food owns all. The waiter was awesome, because he actually "sir"d me, even after dad said "she's good with that" (talking about crab wantons). After we fled the establishment, mom and dad tried to surprise us by taking Meki and I to see the Four Day Weekend improv comedy troupe. We knew where we were going, since dad acted like he had a date all throughout dinner. We had a fun time anyway, and Meki even got his suggestion used for a song (a rap song by "High Butt Crack" called "That's a mutant flying lemur!!") Home happened after the show, and that was our day of family.
I finally caught the second part of "Doctor Who: The End of Time". What an end for the 10th Doc. I'm already interested to see how the new guy will do. The Doctor is all good and all, but for this two-parter? The return of The Master was my highlight. One of my favorite media villains, and John Simm plays him perfectly. Loved it.
So there's an update. My classes don't start again until the...19th? Yeah, let's go with that. So I'm still on a bit of vacation. I will be taking advantage of that time before insanity starts. I'm also trying to get back on stage. There's an audition for "Pirates of Penzance" Monday/Tuesday that I'm thinking of going to. I'd have to figure out what I'd sing, since I know zero Gilbert & Sullivan songs. We'll see what happens.
You've listened to me babble long enough, I think. I should scurry off to bed. G'night, and good luck.

General | Posted 16 years agoFinally ordered "Were the World Mine", for which I have much love. While looking at other Shakespeare-themed DVDs, I also found "The Reduced Shakespeare Company's Complete Works of William.S, Abridged" on DVD. That one I still need to get. and then offer to those who want to get into Shakespeare. No better way than by watching a trio of actors give you the gist of things.

General | Posted 16 years agoYay! The snow was still here when we woke up! Still gotta slug Meki with a slushball before it all goes away.
Got good things, some that I was expecting (a UNT hoodie, a Haunter figure, the Magic Kaito manga, some new vidya games) and a couple I had no clue about (a stereo system for my room and an acoustic-electric guitar <3). Got snacks in the stocking as well, so now I'm nomming on choco-banana pocky and a pack of contessas (wonderful yummy German X-mas cookies).
Haunter is currently sitting atop my computer monitor, making friends with drawing!Haunter.
Merry Christmas to all, now time for a nap!

General | Posted 16 years agoI have to wonder at those who say they hate to drive. Maybe they haven't been on the right kind of roads. I dunno.
Personally, I enjoy driving. I like being in the driver's seat, feeling the hum of the machine, communicating with it. Nothing beats speeding down an open road, no traffic in sight, windows open, sun shining, radio blaring. Even just driving in town, rain drizzling against the windows, feels good. I could pro'ly live out of my car, if needed.
I highly dislike other people driving my car. It's a personal thing, I guess. I get very sarcastic and bitchy, especially when the driver is Meki...my dad genes come out. Damn.
Either way, I love my Nyon (2003 Dodge Neon). Why "Nyon"? 'cause that's the sound you hear when we pass your ass. B)
This journal brought to you after spending most of the day with Nyon, delivering things (and people).
Countdown 'til Hell: fuck, it's today.

A Busy Weekend
General | Posted 16 years agoTry to keep this short-ish 'cause I want to go to bed.
There was a sleepover Thursday-Friday out at Green One's house. Before that we all went and saw the new version of "A Christmas Carol" in 3D. Fun movie, not one I'd recommend for those easily scared or disturbed. Otherwise, it was true to the original story and was quite the perfect Christmas spectacle! Nothing much to report from the sleepover itself, seeing as everyone was hanging around doing their thing.
Post-sleepover, tho, it seems that Atoan had come down with something, and thus contaminated Green One and her Oklahoma friend because those three slept in the same room. The other four of us sleeping in the living room are (as I know) still okay. When I noticed that, I did laugh a bit, I will admit. Speedy recovery anyway, everyone!
Doo doo doo...
Saturday night I worked at Campus Theatre once again. Always love theatre nights. The show was "A Tuna Christmas", a comedy show driven by mini-scenes performed entirely by two guys switching characters and costumes. I sat up near the front for the first act, which was an interesting change from the back-row quarters I usually swipe. The house was sold out, so they actually had to give us volunteers an assigned seat. Before the show/during intermission I worked the concession stand with a lady who I hadn't met before. Ya'no, I realized just how many people working the front actually know me by name. Hehe. Since we didn't get back into the house until after the second act had started, the lady and I got to head up to the balcony and see the rest of the show from the upper seats. The show was great, and the drink from Jupiter House afterward was nice, too.
Sunday. Oh yes, Sunday. My dad took Blue, Meki, and I to go see Avatar in 3D. Alas, no amount of key smashing or descriptive English words can explain how amazing that movie was. Seriously. Go see it if you haven't. Now. I'll wait until you get back.
...
.....
......
Okay enough waiting. We had to head home afterward ASAP because grandpa was already at the house. Dad had forgotten to check the movie length, and didn't realize it was about 3hrs long. Oops. After dinner happened and grandpa left, we all grabbed a drink of choice and played the "Take a Drink When You Hear 'Who'" drinking game while watching "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". My god, we had to take 15-20 gulps by the time the opening song was done. By the time the show was done, Meki and I had cleared two cans of soda each, and the parents had downed the majority of their wine. Mom wanted to make the rule of "only drink when 'who' stands alone, no singing allowed", following up with the question, "What the hell is a da-who??" This seems to be on its way to becoming a family tradition: sit around watching Christmas classics with drinking games and commentary. So far, we've done Grinch (drink on 'who') and Rudolf (drink when his nose lights up).
Now we're here. All of my friends' Christmas gifts have arrived, so I can pass them out during the week now. Still need to go out and obtain a gift for the 'rents. Oops. Well, I know what I'm getting; it's just the -getting- part that hasn't been done yet.
So that's it for now. Anna wants to use me as a pillow, so I best be heading to bed unless I want to be assassinated by the fuzzball by morning's light.

Sing-Off
General | Posted 16 years agoSo there's a new singing competition on NBC. I know what you're thinking: Elliot, really? You're jumping on board with this "singing" competition stuff? Well, I was entertained to find a show choir-style competition where every song is completely a Capella.
All voices, only voices. I like.
So far two of the eight groups have been eliminated. Another two are going home tonight. This is only a week-long thing, from what I know. Sadly, I won't be able to know who wins Thursday night, 'cause I'll be somewhere else.
Cheering for:
The SoCals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU4lCyNh6nA
(signature song: "Somebody to Love" by Queen)
The Beelzebubs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ywWzKnJvPA
(signature song: "Magical Mystery Tour" by The Beatles)
Nota: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWdMt6b9k1A
(signature song: "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz)
Mom was laughing at how I'd fit right in the the 'Bubs. xP
It's on 7pm central on NBC if ya wanna check it out.

Post-Recital Thoughts
General | Posted 16 years agoI have learned a few things from this experience.
1. Always make sure the parents knows where the hell we're going.
Yeah. We left late because dad was not informed that the place we were performing at was actually near downtown rather than close to our house. My bad. After the breaking of a few speed limit signs, we got there just as they were doing the opening announcements.
2. Try not to cross-dress while trying to perform.
I was massively uncomfortable, fidgety, headache-y, anxious, and nearly panicked during the song, causing me to mess up two of the lines in the song that I had been doing fine with up til that day, and resulting in a slip in the character. Damn. Bad, Elliot, bad. I also fucked up two lines in the duet I was doing with one of my very good theatre friends, and I felt TERRIBLE because we had practiced this song for SO LONG and then I had to ruin it. Ugh. I was apologizing forever to her, and pro'ly will feel the need to do so for a while.
3. Practice without binding pre-performance.
Did you know that you breathe differently when wearing women's undergarments rather than binding? I forgot that part. My breathing spots were different than in lesson. Oops.
4. Pack socks in changing bag.
I had brought my jeans and hoodie. I forgot to bring a pair of socks. This resulted in the wearing of tights under the jeans so I wasn't bare-footing in my shoes. Not comfortable.
5. They ship us...?
I continue to know what it's like to be in someone's real-person fiction, ha ha. My vocal partner's little sister continues trying to push us together, demanding hugs and kisses. She's insistent! I've had to catch my friend after a really forceful push once or twice.
6. Try not to be stressed pre-performance.
Too late. I had to take Anna to the vet first thing that morning, and I thought I had a paper due by 5pm that day. Also, one of my client's websites was not showing up, and they needed it fixed ASAP. Anna got some meds that the vet is hoping will work, and it turned out that the paper was due the day before at 5pm instead. Thank god my composition teacher was my favorite and actually liked me. She directly emailed me asking if something was wrong, since I hadn't turned in my paper. I told her my dilemma and she straightened it out. So at least one thing went right. The website is still down, tho, 'cause they didn't transfer the domain to the new host, and they won't take my advice until I call the server people. I am not good with phones. Double ugh.
I thought the days after finals were supposed to be calm, peaceful, sleep-filled, the like. I guess not. Is it Thursday yet? Or at least a get-together day yet? I need people.
We now return you to your regularly-scheduled shit.

Pre-Recital Ritual

-what I'm singing:

2. Shower
3. Choose an Outfit
Elliot: Mom, which shirt do you think would look best with these slacks?
Mom: You know, I think you should wear your rehearsal skirt!
Elliot: Oh hell no.
-five minutes of discussion later-
Elliot: *grumble, gets into tights and skirt, then puts on light blue buttondown and black-n-grey vest* How does this look?
Mom: Hm...lose the vest and tuck in your shirt?
Elliot: No, I'll look like one of those old school marms in your Little House shows! >:
Mom: How about this? *holds up red and black short dress*
Elliot: Oh hell no.
Mom: Well then, change into this top. *throws green cling top at Elli*
-five minutes and grumbling later*
Mom: See? That looks much better! Much more feminine!
Meki: Elli! Mom said at first you looked like a guy in a dress!!
Elliot: I FEEL LIKE A GUY IN A DRESS!!
Mom: Well, it at least it looks very nice now.
Elliot: ...I FEEL LIKE A GUY IN A DRESS.
Mom: You'll get over it. You can change after the recital.
Elliot: *grr*
Mom: You can at least tell your vocal teacher, "Merry Christmas".

What title?
General | Posted 16 years agoHuh. FA's back up. Cool.
Update, with possible Glee/House spoilers.
1) Finals are done! Well, essentially done. Just gotta hand in my revised paper for Comp. II, and that'll be a piece of cake. Can now fully focus on the recital on Saturday.
2) The "Glee" fall finale was amazing!! Holy shit! Mercedes killed her solo on "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going"! The whole Sectionals performance!! Rachel's opener of "Don't Rain on My Parade", and the entrance of New Directions! The last song of the year, "My Life Would Suck Without You" sung to Will by the kids, who were doing a huge recap-montage of all the choreography from the season!! Blew my mind. Keep rocking!!
3) The last "House" episode on Monday was equally wonderful. A whole Wilson episode? YES. Robert Sean Leonard may not like to work a lot, but his fans do love him. <3 Even though I'm sure the writers are sure to go back to House/Cuddy stuff soon (ugh), I do love House+Wilson and Cuddy/Lucas. Also, the ducklings running around the hospital, randomly popping up? I couldn't decide which time was funnier: "IT WASN'T THE POPCORN!!" or "We can't stop the oozing. ._."
4) Slowly starting to draw more again. Also have been finally starting to get out of this antisocial shell I've been in for a while. Baby steps.
5) I'm thankful for my mom. 'nuff said.
6) On that note, mom is making Meki and I go to the doctor for a check-up, since we haven't been to one in around two or three years. We're healthy, what can I say? Not looking forward to the doc telling me I should get on birth control/get the HPV vaccination/go get "big girl" medical tests (UGH PLEASE HELL NO). These visits are usually humiliating, hence my lack of going.
And...yeah. I think that's it for now.

College Woes
General | Posted 16 years agoI truly believe that I am not cut out for this endeavor.
The learning style of the typical college class is as follows:
1) listen to lecture
2) take shit-loads of notes
3) memorize shit-loads of notes
4) regurgitate information for test
5) dump memory, begin next chapters
6) repeat from step #1
The problems with me?
1) just sitting there listening to someone drone makes me doze off
2) I am a failure when it comes to memorizing notes and readings
3) fact #2 turns me into a failure when it comes to tests
5) it is way too easy to brain-dump because the teachers never tie info to other info
6) the second my brain comes up with "why the hell do I need to know this for real life, when I could look it up if I need it?", you lose my interest
7) procrastinator extraordinaire, combined with short concentration when not sufficiently interested in the material as well as fluctuating depression make it HARD for homework/memorization to happen.
I'll easily pass this composition class. Writing is what I do. History will pro'ly be okay with a high C. I'll hopefully pass the lecture portion of human a&p with a C, but the labs I've pro'ly failed; not because I don't know my way around a lab, oh no. I'm one of the best when it comes to hands-on stuff. It's because the practicums are nothing but go in, pick up a paper with nothing but 25-30 blank lines on it, and be able to name everything the professor has laid out. I can tell you what something does and the process behind it: I can't tell you what some sadistic asshole decided to name it. Math? I'm going to be lucky to get through for one reason: I didn't do much any of the homework. I did the quizzes, and I'm going to get the chance to go back and boost whatever quiz scores I want. I did the tests, and I get to re-take my worst one on Friday. No, it's the damn homework that I had no will to do.
Ugh.
I just want this semester done with. Maybe I'd be having a better time if I was living on a campus somewhere, getting the whole "college experience". Who knows.
Bed now. Gotta be up by 7am again.

Oh, the places I've been.
General | Posted 16 years agoWith all this boredom stemming from a lack of anything not-school related, I started thinking about where I want to go after I get my liberal arts degree. Looking back on all the places I've been, in the states I've lived in or near...
I think one of my favorite places has been either San Antonio or New Braunfels, Texas. Both places have a lot of cultural sites, and plenty to do. SA is home to places like the River Walk, El Mercado, and the Tower of Americas. When I lived there, we always spent plenty of weekends downtown. Plus, with how mixed the population was, I always had practice in speaking Spanish. Then NB is half an hour away from there, and houses it's own stuff like Launda Park and Schlitterbahn.
I know moving northward would be nice, tho. I dunno. Still need to think on it more. Still have a bit of time before any college stuff is done, so until then I guess I have to suck it up here. Still want to move out of this house, dammit. Come on, job...

UNT vs. Army
General | Posted 16 years agoTonight was UNT's last home game. Considering myself an honorary Eagle, I went with the family. Well, okay, that wasn't the only reason. The big thing was that we were playing the Army's football team, the Black Knights.
Huge crowd showed up for both sides because of it being the last home game for UNT, and because the whole thing was turned into a dedication game of the Fort Hood incident. Before kickoff, the band came out onto the field, along with a line of people who were introduced to be heroes of the incident: doctors, other soldiers, those who helped that day. A moment of silence was had as pictures of the soldiers who were killed there were shown. After the moment, the band played in the flag guard with "America, The Beautiful", which led into the "Star-Spangled Banner". Fuck, I nearly cried during the march out, and I'm not one to start crying.
The Golden Knights, one of the army's drop squads, were supposed to parachute in with the game ball. Unfortunately, the cloud cover made it impossible and they had to cancel the drop. Understandable, but damn. Some of the Knights actually came up and sat right behind us for the game: they were pretty cool.
Before the band played at half-time, the Commandant of West Point (aka Very Important Person) swore in a handful of new soldiers from the UNT army ROTC division. After that was done, the Green Brigade (aka The Best Part of Any Football Game) took to the field and proceeded to amaze by playing not only "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Carousel, but also did a beautiful version of "Defying Gravity" from Wicked. Holy shit, did want. <3
So overall, UNT lost, 13-17 'cause they lost their minds in the last three minutes of the fourth quarter. Oh well. The fireworks were pretty post-show.
As a last note, when we were leaving the stadium out one of the car paths, I was stopped by a security guard with a, "Hold on, sir!" because they were letting an equipment vehicle by. My night was made.

Judge, jury, executioner, prosecuter, and executioner.

If you haven't heard of WTWM:
When his drama teacher casts him as Puck in his school's upcoming production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Timothy (Tanner Cohen) turns in an inspired performance, whipping up a fittingly Shakespearean love potion with the power to turn people gay. He begins, of course, with the school jock -- the object of his affection. Tom Gustafson directs this unconventional movie-musical based on his award-winning short film, "Fairies".
It's on LogoOnline or on YouTube, for any interested.

Complaining. Ignore me.
General | Posted 16 years agoRight about now, I have the overwhelming urge to get drunk.
I think it has something to do with Finals coming up in less than a month, and I still have quite a bit to wrap up for papers and such before Thanksgiving.
It's tough when a previously A-B student has to adjust to being a B-C student because he, in actuality, cannot find the will to care about these core courses.
Ugh.
Can this semester be over with yet?
