This week's post has been moved to Monday, due to the lead time required to finish May's last project, which is Garden of Earthly Delights, Chapter 1! A gift piece, Duval Incorporated, will also be posted alongside it. After that, I'll be taking a break for the first week of June to visit my parent and reassess the state of my Patreon. Get started on some new graphics, do some planning, that sort of thing. Commissions will not be open in June as planned, so please, wait warmly until July.

Not too much to report. Going on a movie date tomorrow, taking her out to the theaters for the first time since Covid-19 hit. Given the state of the movie industry, I will most certainly report on the aesthetic wonder of King Kong and the exquisite orientalism of Demon Slayer or some shit.
Really, I'm just happy to be out and about. Probably going to gain a few pounds from the popcorn, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make!

Update #35 - Tire Poppage

I was planning to take a minor vacation this week in Houston, buuuuuut my front tire popped a fourth of the way into the drive! Luckily, I had a spare, but because my Honda is relatively rare in tire shape, I have to set up an appointment to get a full replacement. At least there's time to write, eh? Updates on that front will come by next week. Needless to say, I'm pretty defeated about this. ;_;

May the Fourth is upon us. In case you had any doubt about my convictions, I love Star Wars too much to miss it. I'll be getting together with my discord server to watch Return of the Jedi, followed by a user's choice of shows ranging from the Bad Batch to the Mark Hamill appearance on the Muppet's Show. It's going to be a treat.
More relevant to here, this month is themed. Commissions have lined up in such a way that nearly every commissioned story coming out in May is themed around Feral Transformation! If you enjoy being dispossessed of your human body and reduced to a baleful polymorph, have no fear, because I'm about to produce a shitload of specialized porn for your kink.

Update #32 - Transylvania Twist

The whole of April is going to be fairly busy, so these won't be too long. I do have news on the media front - I am watching multiple things and enriching my brain with quality. To keep it brief, here they are:
Dracula [Audiobook]: Much more memorable than I was expecting! Tim Curry plays Van Hellsing, while a competent cast stages the performance. I was engrossed pretty quickly, and generally enjoyed the subtle buildup. Mina Harker is bae. Van Hellsing is the only competent man (next to Quincy, RIP, the American-by-way-of-stereotypes). Seward is a fuckboy.
Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War: Excellent little laugh out loud comedy. The English dub is a different beast in entirely, but just as good.
Wotakoi: My squish and I are watching this and oh my god, these 20-something nerds looking for love with one another is affirming and intimate and the OP makes me meeeeeeeeelt-
So What if I'm a Spider: Spider is great. Her survival arc and internal comedy is actually really engaging for an isekai. The rest of the show is... pretty dull and clumsy.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier: I never expected Marvel to go so hard on real world themes, but they actually did take the false Cap storyline from the Captain America comics and turn it into a substantive critique in the modern day. Also surprised the studio willingly engaged the legacy of black experimentation in the United States and how that shaped African American views on the American government and its principles. It's choppy in places, due to being a mini-series with the mandate to cover stage 4 Marvel's setting as well as its own plot, but I'm engaged, and actively rooting for the Falcon to become the first black cap. It's not a completely scathing critique, but it's got the neurons firing in my brain. RIP Lamarr, you died for John Walker's sins.
But enough about me. Commissions? Heck yeah.

I hope this doesn't alienate potential clients, but it's better for my long-term sustainability to have my prices match the per-hour rate of working in school.

So, um. I took last week off in preparation for an Easter trip, and came back with a bunch of new work? I guess this was a good time to take a sabbatical. Three projects are going up this Friday, and none of them are work related.
Though that said, I wanted to clarify three bits of news related to my commission work!!!
-Firstly - an informal reward on the Patreon is now being redeemed. I am offering 1.5k to 3k stories once per month at the $20 level. These are called 'ditties.' I will screen them for approval before setting to work.
-Secondly - commissions are open again! I am opening up FIVE COMMISSION SLOTS to add to the current queue. Note that commissions at or over $100 will receive priority for completion. Otherwise, they will be put at the bottom of the queue. I will keep commissions open until all slots are filled. They're going quickly already, so don't sit on it for too long!
-Thirdly - after all items in the queue and the next five slots are finished, I will be raising prices on commissions. A new sheet will follow. Base price will now start at 60 dollars, and go up for each category of pages or word count. I hope this doesn't alienate potential clients, but it's better for my long-term sustainability to have my prices match the per-hour rate of working in schools.

A bit of a shame, but it's more important not to stress about making something in a busy week than to try to get something out and have it flop, or me be unsatisfied with the end result.

Update #28 - Back in the Swing of Things
General | Posted 4 years agoHowdy folks, it's been a minute!
The week after finishing the Dildo project was a bit... much! I'm not sure what happened, but I was absolutely sapped of energy, to the point of suffering a sort of intellectual torpor? Hard to say what it was. I've been self-medicating with the High Republic: Into the Dark Audiobook and Unusual Memes, and that seems to have had an effect.
That, or my brain appreciated the noise for a little while. One of the two, I think. Wandavision also could have helped! A competent show with Lynchian aspirations, at least. It got me hooked for a day until the MCU stuff started barging in.
As of this weekend, though, I seem to be back on my shit!!! I managed to knock out 19 pages of Korra fanfiction after a season 1 binge, and got laudable results. Explosive! Let's see if I can keep up the tempo!

Hard to say what it was. I've been self-medicating with the High Republic: Into the Dark Audiobook and Unusual Memes, and that seems to have had an effect.
That, or my brain appreciated the noise for a little while. One of the two, I think. Wandavision also could have helped! A competent show with Lynchian aspirations, at least. It got me hooked for a day until the MCU stuff started barging in.
As of this weekend, though, I seem to be back on my shit!!! I managed to knock out 19 pages of Korra fanfiction after a season 1 binge, and got laudable results. Explosive! Let's see if I can keep up the tempo!

While I wait for payroll to give me my money, I would like to announce changes to the Patreon! It's been steady, but the income has stagnated as 2020 and 2021 have rolled on. I appreciate everyone who stuck around, but also want to grow my engagement a little bit so I can stay an active creator. So, to accomplish this, I am adding three new features to membership:
1. All supporters, clients and designated proofreaders and friends now have access to the Discord server! You can chat with me directly there and engage in the writing process!
2. Contributor, Contributor Plus and Sponsor level patrons can now join writing streams when I have the time and spoons to conduct them!
3. Contributor Plus and Sponsor level patrons now get early access to monthly recordings of stories read by yours truly! Polls will be up shortly on the Discord to decide what April's recording will be! Recordings will be dropped her and youtube one month after release on Patreon.
I really hate to sound like a shill for myself, but no one else is going to do it. If you like my content and have the change to spare monthly, I hope these rewards are worth the asking price.

Not much to report. Subbing went great - still wrangling payroll to be paid on time. Financially hanging in there, but March may be rough if East Baton Rouge Schools is going to withhold money. Taxes have been turned in, will be waiting to see what comes of that. Meanwhile, Empress hits nearly 40 favorites here and 2k views on Deviantart and I am just over the moon. Thank y'all so much for the support~

Update #21 - Tax Season Witches
General | Posted 5 years agoHowdy folks, it's been a minute.
ALRIGHT SO, things are a lot less terrifying now. Profile's been cleaned out, W-2s coming in, job situation stabilizing. I'm beginning to feel like myself again.
Let's go over the latest big development - I got a new job last week! The substitute application I put in for East Baton Rouge schools was approved, and I got two days worth of work right off the back! Wasn't the happiest of days, but they passed without error, and I'm primed to keep going. From now on, I'm going to try to take two days out of the week to teach. It's an extra... (math noises) $720 a month if it works out, which will help make the writing experience comfortable.
And it's already fairly cozy! Promotion on Reddit has increased traffic to my profiles, to the point of reliably hitting 500 views in a day. That's no small potatoes there. The highest viewed story on FA so far is Brand New Balls at 2k views, with That One Time coming in behind it at 1.5k. On DA, it's a tie between Sparkle Paws and Temple of the Trunk at 3k each. Milestones!
Here's hoping to increase traffic this year, yeah?
In writing news - I found just enough motivation to start something new. Remember that serial I pushed for in December? It's being shelved in favor of something smaller and easier to manage. It's still Star Wars, so the content should surprise no one.

ALRIGHT SO, things are a lot less terrifying now. Profile's been cleaned out, W-2s coming in, job situation stabilizing. I'm beginning to feel like myself again.
Let's go over the latest big development - I got a new job last week! The substitute application I put in for East Baton Rouge schools was approved, and I got two days worth of work right off the back! Wasn't the happiest of days, but they passed without error, and I'm primed to keep going. From now on, I'm going to try to take two days out of the week to teach. It's an extra... (math noises) $720 a month if it works out, which will help make the writing experience comfortable.
And it's already fairly cozy! Promotion on Reddit has increased traffic to my profiles, to the point of reliably hitting 500 views in a day. That's no small potatoes there. The highest viewed story on FA so far is Brand New Balls at 2k views, with That One Time coming in behind it at 1.5k. On DA, it's a tie between Sparkle Paws and Temple of the Trunk at 3k each. Milestones!
Here's hoping to increase traffic this year, yeah?
In writing news - I found just enough motivation to start something new. Remember that serial I pushed for in December? It's being shelved in favor of something smaller and easier to manage. It's still Star Wars, so the content should surprise no one.

Special Update - Clarification on Underage Content

I've recently hit some grief over the Metainfection series, specifically with regards to the depiction of canon underage characters. I specified since their inception that any characters mentioned in my work are 18+, but this is still a phenomenon called 'aging up.' It sidesteps the important point of the issue: it's underage pornography.
I do not write, no condone the use of, underage characters in fetish material. That shit doesn't belong in my professional life. Therefore, I am making the statement here that all Metainfection parts have been taken down on FA and DeviantARt to avoid the appearance of condoning this behavior. Letting them stay up was sending the wrong message. It was a mistake.
The Suit Fits will also be removed for similar reasons.
Further, I will not accept concepts or work with underage canon characters, aged up or otherwise. If you have already struck a contract with me for work in this vein, I will refund you. A disclaimer will follow any story with characters with an unstated or nebulously stated age. Additional complaints will result on more take downs, as needed.
To the person who broke contact with me over this - you're still an asshole, but thank you for the heads up.

Thank you to everyone who responded to the emergency call. Thanks to your help, I can make the car insurance payment by the 24th, which will hopefully give the IRS time to look over my tax return and pad out the rest of my finances. I really don't like asking people for charity when I can avoid it. Please don't expect it from me.
Things are calming down around here. Farm Bureau is paying for the damage last month, tax return is in, life circumstances are great, and I'm putting my cooking skills to the test every day. Without these little stressors, it's honestly a really happy time in my life for me. I get to write as a career. =3=
I'll have more to say on the topic as we go through 2021, but more pertinently...

I apologize for asking directly, but circumstances with the IRS have botched my second stimulus check until I can file my 2020 Tax Return. I do not want to be short for my insurance payments in January.

Update #18 - Back to Work!

The stressful week at my parent's place has come to an end, and I'm honestly relieved. Getting up the motivation to work was clashing with a galloping need for traffic, and that's not a healthy headspace to be in. Traffic will come if I write consistently. Right?

News on the literary front - I just finished a new audiobook. I bought the production of Axiom's End, by Lindsay Ellis, for the drive to and from Atlanta. About 16 hours long front to back, top notch production work. Suffice to say that I adore fiction that dives deep into astronomy and xenobiology, and Ellis does exactly this through the theme of first contact fiction. The book's synopsis doesn't matter as much as the topics it talks about at length. Xenolinguistics, truly bizarre aliens, the ethics of a superior species conducting diplomacy, the morality of controlling others. It's set in an alternate 2007 too, so I can have Vietnam flashbacks to the stock market crashing, yaaaay. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a passing interest in new sci-fi. It got nominated for the Hugo, for crying out loud, it's good!!!
I also watched Soul before I left, the new Pixar movie. I don't think it really hit me as hard as Toy Story 2 did, in that general place of hurt, but it gave me a good perspective on life close to where I'm at right now. Living between passions, struggling to find purpose, fixating on reliving feelings at the detriment of my own sanity. Soul is a smart movie. Maybe too hokey jokey for its afterlife bureaucracy, but it has something to say about spirituality and satisfaction with living and I'm still thinking about it. Maybe a good Pixar movie doesn't have to be an emotional declaration of intent? It can be a meditation too. For as much of a comedy as Soul tries to be, it puts forward a subtle understanding of depression and mental wellness that, well, stunned me. The fact it's majority African-American and minority characters felt like a pretty big shock, since most Pixar protagonists are outwardly or coded white. This felt authentically black in a way I can't quite articulate. Maybe it's in the body types, or the casting.
I might watch it again. Definitely feel like I missed more than something.

Update #16 - Maudenstein: The New Order

I'm going to make this update quick, since a few things are still in flux, but the next commission calendar on the horizon!!! And an actual upload schedule, how about that?
Up to this point, I have been posting stories whenever they're ready to go out, which often coincides with my sleep patterns and how hands-on the client is with the project. It's handy for my ADHD brain to speed through a project, hand it off to the client for a proofread, then doll up an icon and post. However, it's not conducive for engagement. Especially since my interests can vary widely, and that can mean dry spells for some of my readers. While this is still a professional hobby, I am going to try something new.
Every Friday, about 9-10pm local time, all of the work done that week will go online at once. It may be one story, multiple stories, or nothing. Either way, a notification will go up in the journal, along with the ongoing commission calendar. Hopefully, this will help y'all feel more connected with my life going forward, and keep me from backsliding into dangerous headspaces.

I'm going to make this update quick, since a few things are still in flux, but the next commission calendar on the horizon!!! And an actual upload schedule, how about that?
Up to this point, I have been posting stories whenever they're ready to go out, which often coincides with my sleep patterns and how hands-on the client is with the project. It's handy for my ADHD brain to speed through a project, hand it off to the client for a proofread, then doll up an icon and post. However, it's not conducive for engagement. Especially since my interests can vary widely, and that can mean dry spells for some of my readers. While this is still a professional hobby, I am going to try something new.
Every Friday, about 9-10pm local time, all of the work done that week will go online at once. It may be one story, multiple stories, or nothing. Either way, a notification will go up in the journal, along with the ongoing commission calendar. Hopefully, this will help y'all feel more connected with my life going forward, and keep me from backsliding into dangerous headspaces.
