Profile journal
Posted 8 years agoAbout me:
My common name is JTE.
My favorite videogame series are Monster Hunter and MegaMan Battle Network.
My favorite standalone videogame is S4 League, but it's often a difficult game to have a good experience in and has a harrowed history of bouncing between publishers mucking it up in every way imaginable.
I value the design of universes which spark inspiration in the imagination and bring a great many possibilities to the table for what it can be.
Some history you can ask me about:
I'm probably most well-known for my work on SRB2, which is the first community I appeared in on the Internet starting in 2002 or so.
In 2005 I programmed the only Kid Radd fangame that was attempting to be "Kid Radd" itself, utilizing all known gameplay mechanics from the comic of the same name. It didn't play very well, because I had never played a MegaMan-style game in my life before and made it using Sonic physics...
In 2007 I programmed a Lua-scripted engine from scratch that could play Cave Story, but as an MMO. It was my first time using Lua in a project, as well as my first time doing networking, so everything was all wrong and fell apart after the first few maps. (I think I got as far as Egg Corridor.)
In 2009 I programmed the first from-scratch custom Minecraft server because the vanilla one at the time didn't prevent cheats, and subsequently invented the first transitions between maps for the limited "Minecraft Classic" editions. Later I invented the original golden apple in Minecraft as a popular community in-joke perpetuated by my website, but Notch changed the recipe and gave it food effects. I am the reason why players named "Notch" have a chance of dropping 0-2 apples on death like a normal mob.

Among the most minor human injuries...
Posted 8 years agoI live on the second floor of an apartment building. While going downstairs attempting to do laundry the other night, I tripped on the last step and terribly twisted or tore my right ankle. Since then I cannot walk.
I wholly believe that a tendon and/or ligament has been torn, and no bones in my ankle or foot are broken. Some random inflammation, some muscles that experience painful discomfort when attempting to use or put weight on, that's about it. This is among the most minor of human injuries.
But gosh, being reduced to the sad 3 legged crab walk to get around and take care of my most basic needs sure feels pathetic.

It's my birthday! :3
Posted 8 years agoI'm happy~
Posted 8 years agoSo here's an update on my life right now: It's pretty sweet.
My first paycheck for my new job came in, I'm moving to Texas, my Oculus Touch controllers have shipped and I hear the experience is pretty awesome, I got all wrapped up in Halloween and Winter videogame events, and every day I feel loved and appreciated and get to sleep as late as I want.
Life is good when you're a cat.

Oculus Rift GET!
Posted 9 years agoSo, I'm one of the early Kickstarter backers of the original Oculus Rift dev kit. Incidentally, the final consumer version of the Oculus Rift just shopped and they kindly gave me a free pre-ordered full edition of it at no charge. It came in a few days ago, I'm so happy.
It came with a fancy new Xbox One controller - yay, I guess? and EVE: Valkyrie, and a bunch of other little free apps and demos.
Naturally, I just spent the last three days watching old movies I missed like Wreck-It-Ralph in 3D in the comfort of my own private virtual movie theater. The BIG big screen.
Most of the official Oculus experiences are "standing" experiences, so my legs are all sore now. :(
And all of the old Oculus Rift DK1 and DK2 games I liked, like Time Rifters, aren't compatible with the consumer version -- the latest SDK requires an upgrade from Unity 4 to Unity 5, which apparently some games just can't do or otherwise lose features in the transition of. So even though I have games on Steam I've played in the original Oculus Dev Kit with a Razer Hydra, they can't be played in VR now. Disappointment...
Hopefully more games and toys and experiences will get upgraded for me to enjoy soon. Right now the best thing in the launch lineup looks like Elite: Dangerous, which I'm just not interested in.
In the meantime, more movies!
Got any suggestions for good, quality entertainment I should totally catch up on?

Post-birthday loot roundup
Posted 9 years ago(Just because I don't want my profile to be saying it is/was my birthday forever)
Let's see... This year I got:
Happy birthday phone calls x5
Digital videogames from online friends x2
* Super Win The Game
* Tiny Epic Galaxies (Tabletop Simulator DLC)
Physical copy of a Nintendo videogame x1
* The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
A box of rocks x9
And a lovingly crafted, deeply filling home dinner with my family.
I couldn't stop smiling, all day. Even though I meant for it to be just a little thing, you know? It truely is the thought that counts.
