On adoptables, halfcanters, grimynx, and art theft
Posted 5 years agoIf you've been following me for a little bit, I'm sure you're aware of my species. While halfcanters have been very well-loved, and I have no desire to stop working with them, I wanted to make some changes.
(Old on the left, new on the right)
I've renamed the species to Grimynx, and smoothed them out a little bit. My lesser rales (formerly backrunners) have been very well-loved by y'all, and I wanted the grimynx to more accurately reflect that the two species are related. They're still smaller, and less flamboyant in the hood area, but slightly more recognizable as something made by my hand. In addition, now I can experiment more with body shape, silhouette, and size.
And don't worry, I'm keeping them colorful!
Here's a colorful pal.
And another!
About the old design: I do still love the prior, spikier design for these guys. They're fun to draw! And y'all like them too - but I felt they weren't iconic enough, and I've been seeing them get copied, a Lot. I know long dog/cheetah critters are very popular on here, but just because I've been quiet for a while, doesn't mean I'm blind. I obviously don't own the concept of sticking a dog in a taffy machine and giving it a stretch, but seeing people ape my entire concept, almost to a T, is exhausting. I can tell when you're inspired, and I can tell when you're ripping me off. I can see you.
Here's a classic boy having a good time.
If you have an oldschool grimynx, and want to keep it that way, that is absolutely fine! I am not going to run around demanding everyone switch to the updated version. In fact, as far as I am concerned, oldschool grimynx are just selectively bred to be fancy, long-eared, and elegant - and are very much still canon in the narrative I've created for them.
On the flip side, if you wanna update your grimynx, go right ahead! If it's a design that you're not exactly sure how to adapt, but still wanna, feel free to ask me for help.
I know it's been a bit of a while since I was seriously active on here, but I hope this little wall of text, and little pivot in my work, isn't too annoying. Cheers to you all for a cozy 2020, I'm excited to share more of my creatures and stories with you.

Death in the Family
Posted 8 years agoMy grandfather passed away Tuesday, after battling with Alzheimer's for over a year.
It's been a slow tragedy and I've done my best to prepare myself, but nothing really eases the pain of losing a loved one completely.
I'll still be active here, commissions are being worked on, and I'm trying to stay positive - I'll just be a little quieter than usual.

Custom Halfcanters
Posted 8 years agoIf you've ever been interested in a halfcanter adopt, but none of the ones I've created have really jumped out at you, customs are open. They're between $30-$40 depending on the marking complexity, and part of the closed species section of my TOS.
Just shoot me a message or comment here if you want one!

Post - AC, and Trello!
Posted 9 years agoHaha okay SO, Anthrocon was an absolute blast - I had the most awesome time hanging out with people and drawing together, it was legit one of the most positive and warm-hearted con experiences I've had in a long, long time.
Big big shoutout to everyone I got to chill with, I dunno if I should even try and tag everyone because I don't wanna leave anybody out. BUT YOU GUYS KNOW WHO YOU ARE! AND I LOVE YOU!
And on another note, I've made up a Trello! That way, if you're a commissioner that wants to keep track of your art, or just a very very curious passerby wondering what I do in my free time (I don't have free time), you can scope a frequently-updated progress list HERE.

Adoptable TOS
Posted 9 years agoThere's been a lot of adopt talk lately, so I figured I should write up something quick and lay out the ground rules of purchasing designs for me. I hope everything is clear, and if you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to post 'em.
General TOS:
-None of the adoptables created by me are to be used for profit in any way, shape, or form.
-Designs are not to be used in narratives that will be published and sold, unless I explicitly grant permission.
-All designs created and sold by me, closed species or not, are still retained under copyright as my Intellectual Property.
-Commissioning other artists to create images, sculptures, plushies, etc. of adoptable designs is perfectly fine - I merely request credit for the design and a link back.
-Buyers may determine the sex, gender, backstory, and personality of any adoptable they purchase.
-Buyers may resell my designs, but only at the price they paid plus the price of any additional artwork they have commissioned of the design.
-Buyers of my designs receive partial copyright and usage rights, depending on the type of adoptable.
One-off Designs TOS:
-One-off Designs (OODs) are non-repeating, non-species creatures, their designs will not be duplicated.
-Buyers of OODs are allowed to convert the design into full species, but cannot sell adoptables derivative of them.
-Buyers may make edits to the palette, design, and apparel of OODs - as long as the creature bears some semblance to my original drawing, most changes are fine.
-Usage rights include: nonprofit narratives, permission to create derivative creatures, permission to use as personas/fursonas, and use in roleplays.
Open Species Designs TOS:
-Open species designs (OSDs) are adoptable designs based on fully-created species I have made, but are open for people to create themselves.
-You may make an OSD for yourself, but you may not sell it - however, trading is fine.
-Please follow the rules for the species your OSD belongs to (I will type these out soon!), and do not copy any adoptables I have already made of the species (markings, palette, etc).
-If you choose to make an OSD for yourself, please let me know! I enjoy seeing other people play around with my creatures.
-Usage rights include: nonprofit narratives, permission to use as personas/fursonas, and use in roleplays.
Closed Species Designs TOS:
-Closed species designs (CSDs) are designs based on species featured in my WIP narrative, Rift. Being a labour of love, their TOS are a little longer, but I would still like to share them.
-Buyers of CSDs may make small edits to the physical bodies of their adoptables, (such as the addition of scars, minor colour palette edits, etc.), but are allowed to add any sort of accessory, clothing, or jewelry they would like.
-General guidelines for each species' behavior and living style in Rift's canon will be shared, but buyers need not see these are ironclad rules.
-Those that want to keep their adoptable as close to canon may do so, but non-canon settings, actions, and situations are acceptable. If you purchase a halfcanter and want to make him the greatest criminal defense lawyer in Pennsylvania, that is fine with me.
-Due to the nature of Rift, sold adoptable CSDs may appear in the novel's illustrations. Owners of these adoptables will not be compensated, but may post and share the artwork - consider it a shoutout!

Auction Ending Tonight!
Posted 9 years agoHey everyone! I wanted to give a really humble, really sincere thank you for all the positive attention this auction and my species as a whole have been given. For those that may still want to bid, you have until 11:59 EST - about three hours!
I will be making a few more one-off designs of the runners, and want to stress each will be completely unique. Doing these adoptables is a really great way for me to push and experiment with the limits of these creatures. I'll also make a few posts expanding on their ecology, so stay tuned!
I really don't know what I would do without your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you (and, happy belated Valentine's day)!

Auction up, date extended
Posted 10 years agoHey everyone! My buddy
shrimps and I made some cute dragons for auction, the bidding was originally gonna end today but we both worked pretty hard on these guys, so I've extended the auction by six days. Feel free to check out these cuties here.
Commissions are still in progress! I'll update the queue some more tonight, I've got a nasty sinus cold at the moment and am resting so I can be rid of it as fast as possible. Stay healthy everyone! I always manage to get sick in the fall, for some reason...

Communication may be slow, but I'm here!
Posted 10 years agoHey everyone! Just wanted to give you all a general update on how things are going on my end, especially commissioners.
I'm currently working on some traditional paintings for an upcoming show, as well as orders for digital art, which help me pay my rent! It's a bit of work, but things are going fairly well for me so far. Despite a few outside stresses (mostly family matters - without getting too into it, my grandfather's condition isn't doing so well) I feel I'm making good time. That said, I figured I should make a little post letting you all know that I may be a bit sluggish when it comes to notes and emails, on account of my pretty heavy workload and trying to keep up with my family as much as possible.
Here's a live queue of what I'm doing, which I'll update it as I go. If you see your commission status has changed, feel free to request any WIPs to sneak a peek at! I want to make sure everyone who orders from me is comfortable with what I'm creating for them, as well as ease any worry about my recent slow replies.

Commissions Are Open!
Posted 10 years agoI went ahead and updated my commission info on here with order types I have available (more will come soon, just gotta make some examples).
I may open some pay-what-you-want experimental slots in the near future to mess around with my style, but for now I'll keep it simple!
I accept Paypal only for these commissions, if you have any comments feel free to leave them on this journal, but you'll need to note me to submit an order! I'm saving up for a new computer, as well as paying my rent, so I'm going to keep slots unlimited for now - if I need to close commissions for a little in order to finish some work, they'll open right back up afterwards. I'm basically living off my art, it's exciting!
I will do NSFW content, but ideally I'd like to keep it to solo work and pinups. However, if there's something else you have in mind, feel free to ask.
Order form:
Name:
Commission type:
References:
Pose/Expression:
Paypal: NOTE: I'm mostly using invoices for my orders now, so I'll need you address in order to send it - if you would prefer to split payment 50/50, or pay upon approving a sketch, just let me know!
Other: (basically any extra info I may need to know about the character, like personality, backstory, or physical details you want to make sure I get right in the image, like horn placement or number of stripes, etc.)
And....I think that's it! I hope I can make some cool stuff for you guys.

NSFW Commissions
Posted 10 years agoEyyyy so I haven't update my journal in 10 months so I guess I'll just make a list of general updates here.
I graduated from college (nice!) and am currently jobhunting and looking for a place to stay (not so nice), so I'm in a little bit of a pinch financially. I have two commissions left in my queue (woohoo!), and once I'm done with them I was considering opening up for some nsfw art. The only issue is it's something I'm not really looking forward to doing, and I don't want to be pigeonholed into some like...go-to furry porn artist mold, ya feel? But money is money and I enjoy drawing weird smut on my own enough (I think? I just going in-depth with cryptid biology more than anything), so I figured I might as well put the word out there and test the waters and see if there'd be any interest.
I have some dumb sketches I did you can check out here, I don't really feel comfortable drawing extremely explicit works or severe fetishes, but solo stuff is cool. I'd charge slightly more for the sexual content than my regular commissions but I'd probably start out just doing loose stuff like this (albeit scanned much, much better).
If you're interested or have any advice, feel free to comment or note me yeah? I'd appreciate it.
Hope you all are doing well!

I'm Alive, I'm Alive
Posted 11 years agoI've been away from my computer for a while, I've almost forgotten how to use the keyboard.
I recently returned from spending some time with my grandparents upstate, and while I love them more than the world itself, my grandfather isn't doing well and it makes me terribly worried. It's hard for me to write about, but please understand my slowness and occasional vanishings - there are many matters I have to attend to. His memory is fading and we are just trying to do the most we can while he's still with us. Words of support are greatly appreciated as well, but do forgive me if I seem aloof and distant.
Good news though: computer is back, I still have a month off, and things seem to be holding so far. Expect artwork and a smiling face from me again within the week. There will be updates on Patreon, as well as finished artwork to those I owe. For now though, I hope you're having a pleasant night.

Official Commissions-Open Post
Posted 11 years agoTitle says it all, really! I'm taking the plunge and opening the floodgates to commission orders, inquiries, and the like.
Currently I'm offering three "standard" sort of styles for commissions, although I am open for all things in-between.
Traditional/Digital Headshots are $15
Tradition/Digital Fullbodies are $30
Cel-shaded Digital Headshots are $20
Cel-shaded Fullbodies are $40
Digital Speedpaint Portraits are $55 (+$10 for added headshot)
Digital Full Paintings (gore warning) are $75
As always, custom Halfcanter adoptables are always open, and are $20 each.
Other Info:
-I often request an extra $5 for more complicated characters (ones with wings, extra limbs, multiple colours, etc.) in addition to the flat rate price.
-I work on a big canvas! I try and keep my commissions around 1500x1500 at 300dpi and up, and then downsize them to post.
-You may repost the work I do for you anywhere you like, as long as you link back to my page.
-Wait time for commissions can range between one week to upwards of two months. I'm currently in art college and often have to dedicate long stretches of time to offline projects, but I make a conscious effort to update my commissioners about any delays.
-All of my commissions are Paypal only, and while I prefer payment up-front, I will allow split payments for large orders.
-The best way to contact me for commissions is usually by note here, but if for some reason I cannot be reached, I always check my email: ehlbee[at]hotmail.com
If there are any questions/concerns about my commissions or my TOS, feel free to ask! Thank you for takin' the time to check out this journal and my work, I don't know where I would be without your support.

Headshot Commissions(?)
Posted 11 years agoI've been futzing around with traditional-digital work for a little while now, just in time for another school bill to roll up and bite me in the neck. So I'm wondering, would anyone be interested in headshots done in this style?
http://www.antifaro.com/images/Nhyworks/xuu.png
They're drawn in my sketch book before being scanned and coloured digitally, I'm thinking $15 base price? Does that seem fair?
On a more positive note, all current commissions will be posted up this week, nice and finished! I'm glad to finally be done with this queue.
