Relay 2017 and HavenCon 2017 - Done and Done!
Posted 8 years agoWow, back-to-back visits to Raleigh, NC, for Relay and HavenCon here in Austin! I am bushed, I don't know how I managed this, esp. with all the little projects I had to get prepped for HavenCon. Still both events were a total blast! Much thanks to
Kaynusvulfe for giving me a place to stay in Raleigh as always :). It was also great getting to hang out with Zedd, Siku, and Scout on the days before and after the event! Definitely a fun time!
I have so many to thank for the donations made to Relay4Life! I have not met my goal of 3K yet. I might have bitten off more than I could chew, but, we all sometimes need a lofty goal to strain and reach it.
Next up - the Austin Furs Memorial Day BBQ! This will be the third one ever and I know it'll be the biggest ever :). More details will be posted to the Austin Furs Telegram group once I figure out how to create and manage the event there.

Here we go! Relay 4 Life 2017 is happening!
Posted 8 years ago It looked like I might not make it to Relay this year, but with some beneficial funds coming in it looks like I'll be able to make it after all!
This will be my third year with the event and I look forward to joining my friends and furs in fighting cancer!
Sadly I've yet to collect much in the way of donations. I will be pushing hard the next couple weeks to try and bring up my funds for this.
If you are able to help the Furrys for a Cure team we would love for you to help with donations or, if you're close, possibly even attending the event with us! Check out my personal page here, and take a look at our team and see who all is fighting cancer with us!

Fangcon 2016 Mini Update
Posted 9 years agoWell, myself and JasonMiller drove out from Central Texas to Birmingham, Alabama to attend Fangcon last week! This was my 3rd Fangcon, and it was an impressively fun time!
While the drive was long (770 miles) it was still quite worth it. We stayed overnight in Shreveport on the way there, met up with Null and Siku, then enjoyed the con, seeing many old friends (Eddie Bear, Mune, Tiger Nick, Ghostmane, DJ Dadius, and DJ Charlie for starters!) and making new ones (DJ Blue, Future, CyanWolf, and still more!).
This con was also the first where I debuted my newest suit, a fullsuit version of Edgewise by The Fuzz Factory! (https://twitter.com/thefuzzfactory/.....93188014657537). He is an AMAZING suit, beautiful, colorful, and so very cute! I can't get enough of him! :D
I really enjoyed this con - while attendance was down a bit due to the con moving states (from Tennessee to Alabama) I still found so many folks from prior Fangcon's. Conventions like this really do make the fandom feel like family. It's a nice thing to experience :).
Highlights from this con - helping out DJ Dadius with the headliner show, being a part of the DJ lineup dance Saturday, performing my set on Sunday to an attentive dance floor, and suiting around as the new Edgewise as I try to figure out how to perform as him. Being able to dance to all the DJ's, esp. DJ Blue who put on a solid set, not to mention DJ Nullstrukt who likewise got us all moving!
Of all of this, seeing friends again after what feels like so long was a big deal to me. It was great getting to share meals with each and every one of them :).
Now that I'm back home I need to go through the motions, unpack, do laundry, try to catch up on sleep so I can work okay, heh! After a couple nights recovery the next set of plans need to go into action.
Be well, ya'll!

Made it to BLFC2016!
Posted 9 years agoTraveled here to Reno with Rheldar, EJ/Buckley, and Skepa! And more friends are still coming! This is my first BLFC, with recent health stuff I'm cautious but optimistic! Here's to hoping this con rocks! :D
This venue is just impressive - so much here at the con hotel and casino. Suiting here is a bit restricted, with no masks allowed in the casino area, but there's SO much other space to explore and play in!
I've jumped onto Telegram, edgewise! Hope I can keep up with folks!

Health and updates
Posted 9 years ago I've put more on Twitter than anywhere else on this matter, but thought it important to write up a bit more on this. This gets a bit graphic, but I experienced a condition I did not know existed, so let this be at minimum an informative yet cautionary tale.
Last Friday, I woke up with a fever. The prior days I'd been feeling under the weather, but had attributed this to a pretty aggressive schedule - I'd just gotten back from Relay for Life on that Monday, which had a lot of flying, driving, fursuiting, and disc golfing. And, of course, sleep deprivation. I'd burned some nights staying up very late preparing for my HavenCon DJ set, which was scheduled to happen Saturday night.
Thursday I noticed some soreness and swelling in a very sensitive spot. I didn't think much of it, it was minor and I didn't have any other issues, though it did concern me. Friday, upon waking up, I had a fever and extreme fatigue; and, the swelling had increased 2 fold. I'll cut to the chase - my left testicle was, at that time, double it's normal size.
I got up and decided pretty quickly that I'd be going to the hospital. I drove to work to pick up my new insurance card, informed my manager, went home, prepared a bag, and asked a friend to take me to the ER. After arriving I was ushered into an ER room, examined, sent for an ultrasound, blood pulled, then when the ultrasound showed no apparent cause I was sent for a CAT scan.
After a couple of hours with no immediate answers a urologist was called in for a consultation; he was pulled out of surgery to take a look. Rather quickly he deduced my condition - epididymitus.
Guys, take heed and research this condition - it's interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epididymitis
This was not just epididymitus, though. I developed a blood infection from this. It appears e.coli bacteria took up residence in my testicle, and from there was making its way into my blood. Both my blood and urine were, and still are, contaminated with e.coli.
An IV was put into my arm, saline administered, followed by antibiotics. The pain continued to increase through the day, until morphine was administered - other than 5 minutes of tingling, this didn't even dent the pain. I got a second dose of morphine around 2AM Saturday morning, same outcome. I was put on a cocktail of different pain management drugs to help put me to sleep, all to little effect.
My condition continued to go downhill. My temperature was not manageable, and continued to climb. Hot and cold flashes set in. Worse, the swelling continued. I was eventually moved into a room for overnight treatment and observation. I didn't sleep much, and another IV was put in my left arm, blood samples were drawn from there while saline, antibiotics, and pain killers were being pushed into me through the right arm. All through this experience, my testicle continued to swell until it completely filled my scrotum and reached the size of a grapefruit.
After 24 hours of treatment, and more bags of saline and antibiotics than I can remember were pushed into me, my fever finally broken Saturday afternoon. My recovery was slow but steady, once the fever broke it was like everything just started to improve. The headache went away with some Excedrin, and I was strong enough to stand and walk short distances. With the doctor's approval I checked out of the hospital Saturday, picked up medication, and was driven home by my incredible friends. I was off my feet except for a brief stop by Havencon to see everyone I could, then was bedridden until Wednesday.
Things are still swollen. It'll take up to two weeks for my testicle to return to normal size. But at least the treatment is working.
I've never been in the hospital for anything like this before. It's really a huge wake-up call, memento mori and all that. I haven't ever had this kind of health issue before.
The most surprising thing through this - my friends. Q, who drove me to the hospital and stayed with me through this all! EJ, who was helping out at Havencon but took the time to grab get well cards and balloon, get it signed by everyone, then to slip into the ER ward and find me to deliver it. Skepa, who brought me the biggest bag of swedish fish I have ever seen. And Tokeki, Doc, JasonMiller, and Crow, who cheered me up with huge funny red noses, cards, and high spirits, and esp. JasonMiller who even brought me flowers to brighten the room! And, outside of this, Haven, whose goodwill I could just feel even though he was in the middle of Havencon, a con he runs!; Zain, who stepped in and helped cover the DJ set I missed Saturday; RentRunner and others, who took to social media and made call-outs to me while at Havencon, which just lifted my spirits. I still feel terrible having missed the con, but wow, talk about an outpouring of good will :).
I'm so behind on updating this FA - FurNightATX.com has taken a lot of time. I've helped out with three FurNightATX events, TFF2016 has already happened this year, missed all but a few hours of HavenCon2016, and had the Relay for Life trip to Onslow County in North Carolina just two weeks ago. And, I'm still so behind on posting new mixes. I still have a new DNB mix to put up from my TFF2016 set, along with a FNATX mix, and a hard dance set I've been throwing together. And in another couple weeks I'll be at BLFC2016. I hope I am recovered enough by then to fursuit there!
If you've read this far, thanks! Sorry for the silence.

First mix of 2016 posted - Drum And Bass!
Posted 10 years agohttps://www.mixcloud.com/DJEdgewise.....y-dj-edgewise/
So this is my first time mixing Drum and Bass, a genre that I have come to really enjoy. I love the tempo, and I wanted to explore a new genre early so I could see what techniques I need to learn to improve as a DJ. I definitely struggled with this mix, being completely honest. But I'll keep at it!
Next up, I'll be returning a bit to my roots in Electro House and working on a track pool for FurNightATX, here in Austin, Texas on January 23rd! I'll be DJing the show with Darroh Huskers :). If you're in the area check us out! http://www.furnightatx.com/

Back from FangCon 2015!
Posted 10 years agoI sure don't use this journal enough!
Anyway, back from FangCon! Wow, that con is fun :). This is the second year I've attended, and this year I was quite fortunate to get a DJ slot closing out the floor Friday night at 1AM - 2AM. The dances this year were much improved, thanks to Charlie for promotion, to the wonderful dancers who enjoyed the music, and to the DJ's who kept their sets jumping!
I do not know that I will have time for a proper con report - I'm just back from the trip and unpacked, and go right back to work tomorrow. My priorities are to re-record the DJ mix and post it then to start work on the next set of projects, not to mention catch up on house cleaning! Still, I need to try a con report of some kind. I'll try my best!

Busy Griffin has been BUSY - Mid-to-Late 2015 Edition!
Posted 10 years ago Wow...where to start!
Since HavenCon I've been on several different tracks, with work consuming a lot of my free time. I've still been managing to DJ, and even gotten quite a bit of suiting in! I helped out with Relay for Life this year, DJ'd at HavenCon, then started to help out with the Longhorn Furs Student Group, which operates out of UT Austin! We also had a Memorial Day BBQ for the Austin area furs, which went really well.
This later half of the year started with RMFC2015! I still need to post a con report for that one. Last weekend was my first ever Pride Parade, here in Austin, Texas, and I and a couple other suiters helped out HavenCon by marching with them! Then, this past weekend we had the Longhorn Furs first dance of the new school year, followed by a BBQ gathering at my place that blew away all our expectations!
Coming up next is an opportunity to DJ at HavenCon's Cosplay Ball at the Highland here in Austin, Texas, followed by FangCon in late October, where I hope to be DJing and helping out with some panels!
I'm glad to have the opportunities I'm having. I'm also glad to not be working on all of this alone, so many have come together to help me overcome a number of challenges - I'm really thankful for the amazing friendships I've found myself apart of!
I'm currently more up-to-date with Twitter moreso than anything else. If you happen to want to see what's kicking around with this griff, drop a line theglowy!

Havencon 2015!
Posted 10 years agoI was incredibly fortunate to be a part of Havencon this year! Though I was not able to attend today, yesterday was a huge blur of awesome activities, in and our of suit!
The fun started a few weeks ago, when I was offered an opportunity by
whines to DJ one of the dances! I pulled together a bunch of new tracks and practiced for a couple weeks leading up to the con. And that worked out great :). The set was well-received, and a few commented that the pacing was really good. Due to timing I wasn't able to record the set, though, so will be re-recording a final mix of it sometime this week!
For the day of the con, it was pack, drive, unpack, caffeinate, and suit :). Eventually jumped out of suit, grabbed pizza (brought to us by donations and the ever-hoppy
usb and
whines) with the locals and a few new friends, then got back into suit for the furry panel, hosted by
SableGryphon! I joined a number of furs, including suiters
sakurafox,
piston, and
tristwolf to add color and flair to the discussion.
tristwolf kept the crowd rolling in the aisles :). And Sable did a great job answering a lot of good questions from the audience, which kept growing at every turn! In fact, the furry contingent was quite active and the interest so high that the con's other events were postponed due to most of the con attendee's being present in the furry panel :).
After the panel, the Drag competition was on. Then, the dances started, with
Fades going on for his DJ set! He was extremely well-received, and I enjoyed dancing and glowing to it. I eventually hooked up my gear and got into my set...and people danced to it :). The first half of the set was more people than I've ever had dancing to my performance before. Things slowed down on the dance floor a bit, but that was due to time and energy. I got some great feedback from folks, a couple of requests (Beyonce and more dubstep - I perhaps need a dubstep track list that I can mix with next), and the organizer for Havencon came up and thanked me :).
This con had so many highlights, but I also missed a couple opportunities - I wish I'd gone back today and was able to suit and shop a bit more. I have long wanted to suit with
sakurafox, and I got a chance to! Wish I could have spent more time with him and the other suiters. There was this amazing cosplayer with the Transistor outfit and glowy sword, would have been awesome to get a picture with Edgewise holding it! I wish I could have gotten a room at the con and spent more time hanging out with
SableGryphon. Squawk, man.... squawk :).
Overall, for a first-year GLBT gamer convention, Havencon was insanely successful :). I can't wait for next year, and hope it gets bigger and better! Thanks to everyone, esp. the local furs, for hanging out and making the time spent there so incredibly fun!

Squawk, man.... squawk :).Overall, for a first-year GLBT gamer convention, Havencon was insanely successful :). I can't wait for next year, and hope it gets bigger and better! Thanks to everyone, esp. the local furs, for hanging out and making the time spent there so incredibly fun!
DJ Edgewise has a Mixcloud account! And my first mix is up!
Posted 10 years agoWell, after several weeks of practicing and recording mixes, I've finally published my first mix. It is not perfect, I have so much I need to improve upon, but here it is :). This selection embodies the spirit of the music I have come to love.
And more is coming :). Enjoy and please let me entertain you!

TFF2015 - The Con Report!
Posted 10 years agoIt's been about a week since TFF2015 started for me, so past time to write it up! So here goes!
Pre-con!
Kaynusvulfe flew in Tuesday, we enjoyed some dinner at NXNW, and started planning things out. We ended up spending Wednesday with some fellow furs, including EthPee and
Kage13, playing disc golf at a couple of courses. We spent the evening at art night and helped
Whines and
Fades with loading their vehicles for the trip to Dallas, then spent the next couple hours readying our own con-mobile for travel.
Thursday! After some much-needed shirts failed to arrive in time for the con (due to the dicey weather out east), an emergency trip to the mall yielded several replacements for Edgewise! We were then on our way to Dallas. Per ritual, it seems, Cracker Barrel beckoned like a gravy-laden Siren, and we enjoyed a big meal on the road before hitting the con. We got to the con early, found great parking, checked in and unloaded. After orienting things in the room, we headed down, visited Whines, EJ, and Rheld in Kempi's, then went and got in line for registration. This year registration went really smoothly. In fact, this year seemed quite smooth all around. After reg was done, we enjoyed some dinner at Jason's Deli with Whines, Fades, and Ethpee, then got in-suit and started off the con with dancing, poi, and general exploration of the con while in-suit :). Bacon scarves made a great impression, hehe. We ran across some locals, including
Tylenn, who was unloading while in-suit, hehe.
Friday! This was, for me, the most incredible day of con I've had in all the days I've con'd. The day started with picking up a new con badge from Mary Mouse for Edgewise, which came out amazing! A quick breakfast was had at a new place, Cafe Brazil, which quickly became our go-to breakfast place each morning, followed by jumping in-suit for opening ceremonies. Love Bird Edgewise spent time offering up flowers and hugs to any who wished them, and I actually visited Mary Mouse again to thank her for the awesome badge while in-suit :). After about 4 hours of suiting the Baconizer and Love Bird Edgey jumped out of suit and snagged lunch, then attended panels, concerts, and browsed through the dealers den and artist alley a few times. We ran across
yuudokukawa, an old friend from last TFF, and he joined us for the rest of the con whenever possible. I also finally got to meet Corvin Dallas while I was out of suit, and then eventually ran across him several times in-suit! I wish I could have spent more time with a fellow bird! The same goes for Winston, who I kept running across but never had a chance to sit down with or enjoy a meal with. I jumped in a panel with
Pacerfox for alternative materials in fursuit construction, which was a very enlightening panel. I have a few new things to check out! That evening, as the raves grew closer, the excitement was just palpable. We got our glowy on, made it to the raves, and danced, spun poi, etc. Prior to the con,
scottytheminotaur dropped me a line and mentioned dancing, so we eventually met up. And we danced, oh gods we danced, for hours. This was, to me, one of the most enjoyable times I've ever been in-suit. Ever since I started suiting and observed other suiters dancing I've wanted to slow dance in-suit. It has been an experience I've wanted for years. And Scotty, in his white griffin suit, shared this incredible experience with me. I was a moving experience in so many ways (and, if anyone has pics of us on the dance floor, please send em along, I am still looking for them). We jumped from the main rave to Kempi's to enjoy Kaynus' trance set, which rocked as we slow danced. It was just... yeah :). I finally got out of suit and found my bed around 3AM. I didn't want to sleep, heh. All together I was in suit ~12 hours Friday, which is a new record for me. I did not want it to end!
Saturday! With an incredible day behind, two remained. Saturday was a lot of suiting and getting ready for the fursuit parade, but it started with a new breakfast place we found Friday, Cafe Brazil.
yuudokukawa joined us in-suit and got some great pics with our server :). We got back and immediately needed to get in-suit - sadly, the timing of the Super Sponsor dinner was pretty poor, so we had to miss the dinner so we could make it to the fursuit parade on time. The parade start was delayed a bit due to late-breaking changes to the parade route - the result was a rather short parade route. We were queued up and ready for quite a while, and the parade route was maybe 10 minutes of suiting, if that. I'm in no way complaining, but do wish the route was longer and more spread out. Still, it was a fun parade, and had a good atmosphere, all the suiters were in good spirits :). I has the happy opportunity to get pulled into the TFF Avian picture, which was really nice to be a part of - I've never been in a species-specific photoshoot before. Eventually we got outta suit, snagged lunch, hit panels, more dealers den/artist alley, pictures. The Poi Panel was another highlight of this con, and in two short hours a very helpful fur made me realize I was making some elemental mistakes in the way I spin poi - so, slowly, he began to help me correct how I spin. Then, a number of other moves were shown, so I picked up a couple new move ideas and have started to practice. Though I missed a few more panels, it was worth it! After that we ended up getting into a much larger group of folks heading to dinner. OMG, this was a dinner of champions -
Xubuntu,
Fades,
Skepa,
parlancedawn, :iconJasonMiller, Addicus, and a ton of other furs (too many to list!) who joined from Xubuntu's Dragon Meet and Greet Panel. It was an epic train of folks from the con hotel to this wonderful pizza place, then back. It was a pretty off the rails gathering, and I loved it! We got back to the con hotel, got ready for the raves and raved. I sought out the white griffin on the dance floor, but heh, a case of mistaken identity resulted as the suit was occupied by another suiter - we danced a bit anyway, hehe, and I went back to poi and dancing. Eventually, I hit up the Iron Artist panel, trucked some drinks from Kempi's up to the panel for some folks, and laughed hard at the fun there. I ended up calling it a night a bit early - nerves has set in as my own DJ set was approaching.
Sunday! Late on Saturday, we did a quite check of the weather and realized that an ice storm was approaching Dallas. So early Sunday the decision was made to leave the con on Sunday instead of Monday to avoid the ice. Sunday, then, was breakfast with Kage and Yuudoku, which was entertaining as all get-out as Yuudoku hammed it up in-suit with the passerby's and us, and Kage picked on me. As we got back to the con hotel, the rain started. Kaynus helped out with Yuudoku, who quickly packed, as he also opted to leave the con a bit early. I went on, got my equipment set up, and put together a 1 hour, 30 minute DJ set in Kempi's with some of my favorite electro house and glitch hop tracks. All while in-suit as Edgewise. Attendance was low, though, due to other events on the schedule, but I enjoyed doing the set anyway, and picked up some valuable experience while working the set. Kaynus and Yuudoku spun along with a couple others, which I very much appreciated. Minutes after the set was done the decision was made - the predicted weather forecast updated to indicate it was going to get colder faster, so we immediately began packing up the equipment and the room. I got out of suit and within the hour we'd loaded up the jeep in the rain. Loading went fast, as the dance competition was still running while we loaded. I won 3 art pieces in the art auction, so then waited for that to open up, and afterwards got in the Austin Area Furs group pic :). We bid fast hugs and goodbyes then hit the road. We got out of Dallas without incident, but missed the rest of the con - the dance comps, the closing ceremonies, and, sadly, the dead dog dances, which are my favorite dances of the con. Anyway, it was for the best - we hit Buzzard Billy's for cajun on the way back to Austin, got back at a reasonable time, unpacked, and then finally rested.
This con had so many pluses and only a couple of negatives. I regret not spending more time with
scottytheminotaur, I wish I could have gotten to know him better - same goes for Corvin, Yuudoku, and many others. In the 5 cons I've done this is the first where the weather has required we cut the con short to get out of facing major delays.
Saturday was a full day, but was a bit unusual in that my energy level seemed to drop off after dinner. I guess eating 1.5 pizzas does that! Next time, need to control that a bit better.
Con staff was incredibly nice as always - I ran across Sable Griffin and Gwaland a few times, I wish I'd offer to get pictures with them while in-suit. That's something I need to remember for next time!
My DJ set went okay - but I was unable to record it due to me not understanding how to use Serato DJ to record :P. Still, I enjoyed it! Spinning in-suit is challenging, but I've decided to pursue this, see if I can improve, and maybe make more a show out of it. I have a lot to do!
Anyway, the net-net : slow dancing griffins made for an amazing experience, I got 8ish pieces of art to post up, including a badge from Dark Natasha, reconnected with old con buddies and made some new ones :). Thanks all of ya, esp.
