The annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade is happening June 23, and I'm going. You don't have to dress up like seafood though, lol. I went as a biker last year and people took my picture. There were mascots around, so you could even fursuit! Website here: http://www.coneyisland.com/mermaid.shtml
What I need is vital. Five men, at LEAST five, to go here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Warrior.....ht_2080wt_1185 and buy a vest. We'll meet up before taking a train to Coney Island together. I've already ordered mine, and WILL be there. Come join me, brothers! [EDIT] Props if you can get some red jeans.
Next is Governor's Island. We've went the last two years, in coincidence with Punk Island, an indie-rock takeover with Punk bands everywhere. Posted 13 years agoI am looking for a room in or around New Castle so I can be close to school. I am currently living 25 min. away from Wilmington University and would like to stay 30 min. away at most. I need to move by late April. Crucial info below.
Money: I currently pay $200 rent every month and on time. I can afford a good bit more, if utilities are included.
Space: All I need is 6 sq. ft. for my stuff, a closet, and space to sleep.
Hygiene: I am meticulous and a clean freak.
Noise: I am quiet, don't watch TV, or play video games.
Transport: I have my own car, and it's not a beater.
Income: Secure. I even have a savings account. Furthermore I don't owe anyone money, and that's it how I like it.
Attitude: I'm friendly as hell and don't have beef with anyone, mainly because I don't sweat petty crap.
Schedule: I can stay up late if you like to party, I enjoy it myself.
Company: The only people I bring over are close friends widely recognized by this community, such as Tekomuto. No creeps.
Privacy and respect for: I can keep to myself; and stay out of others' business.

jayfox7 to go bust some heads at the museum to find out if we can suit. After his long and arduous trip, he texted me with this to say:
"So I checked in with the museum and although they are impressed with our group, they don't want mascots roaming around the area mainly for the safety and they sites of the museum. And because the idea that people would have their faces and bodies covered. So people could go in as partial, but you can't wear the heads."
PARTIAL FURSUITS ARE ALLOWED INSIDE, SPREAD THE WORD. You just have to remove your head at the ticket booth. If you want to take pictures with people , then heads are allowed for that.
THERE WILL BE CHILDREN. Be on your best behavior, no cursing or sexual gestures please.

Posted 14 years agoI've called the museum several times and even got connected to a real person in charge of reservations, which WASN'T what I was looking for. After pleading the case, she sent me to the field trip sector, which was another machine. Are these guys ever home? And now they think I'm a TEACHER. Leading a CLASS. On a FIELD TRIP. Good gosh.
That being said, after I valiantly tried diplomacy, I suggest we resort to the Tried and True method: Just show up. The good news is self-guided tours are allowed, and encouraged after 1pm, which is when we'll get there. There should be children to perform for, stragglers from leaving field trips.
Now I wouldn't say this to be irrational. Every time I called, I let them know I was arranging this. I'll take any brunt they give you. Think about it though, how many times so far has anyone given us trouble? I'm sure they'll love our suiters.

Posted 14 years agoLol, I just left a message for the reservations lady of the NY Transit Museum asking for any large group offers and if "independent mascots" were allowed to wear their "costumes" in the station. I told her my "associate"(
) and I would like to arrange a trip for an "animal enthusiasts club", to explain the mascots. I'll call again later today.
On a more serious note, I've been thinking of even more furmeets I would love to set up. I notice down here in DE we have stationary meets, set at diners, skating rinks, and bowling alleys every month, while NYC votes on a more random meet each month. What if we combine both approaches? We could vote on a venue for the first half of each month, and have a place to return to for the end of them. I'm thinking Coney Island Furmeets every last Saturday of each month.
As for suggestions for future venues, I vote Puerto Rican Day Parade and Punk Island(Governor's Island with all the rock bands). You all remember how fun that was.
