Madcap RPG
General | Posted 7 years agoI am now part of a TTRPG livestream! The game in question is Madcap, where you play cartoon characters, and the setting for this campaign is Elderberry Junction, a comedy horror that is sort of in the spirit of Gravity Falls. I play Alec, a Border Collie who is a paranormal investigator. Here is a link of the first episode: https://youtu.be/Rnl5NG7mDeY
CATS, Spongebob, and Theatrical Representation
General | Posted 7 years agoI love to find fan-made animatic of songs from musicals. Hamilton, Wicked, Heathers, etc. Now some of you may know one recent Broadway hit has been the Spongebob musical, which surprised everyone by not being a mere cash grab. However, while I did find animatics, one thing bothered me about them: Almost all of them drew characters like the actors in their costumes. Now that it isn't to say I don't like the costumes. Quite the opposite. But I'll explain my issue at end of a note. As a side note, I only found TWO animatics so far where the characters look like their cartoon selves.
It was then I realized I had the exact same problem with CATS fanart. Most of the characters are drawn closely resembling the costumed humans. Some fans (especially in fanfiction) try to justify this by saying say that these are the cat's Jellicle forms when humans are not around. While that is an interesting concept, that's not the issue here. I prefer fanart that shows the characters as normal cats or, at best, Zootopia-style anthros like I commissioned Betsy and Greykitty to do.
So what is my problem with both these examples? Well, to get right to the point, these costumes are merely abstract, if well made, representations of fantastical characters so we can better connect with the actors under the costumes and makeup. It's not to be taken literally. Yet these fans draw them exactly like that. To me, that's boring, if not downright self-restrictive. I'm reminded of something that happened during the making of Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars shorts between Attack and Revenge. At first, the animators tried to make the characters look exactly like the actors who portray them but then they realized they were limiting themselves and redesigned them. I feel the same thing is going on here. In a way, they are drawing the actors, not the characters.
Now I am not condemning these fans for doing this. If they prefer to do it that way, that's completely fine. It's their choice and I don't want to force them to do anything. I just think there is untapped potential.

A Very Personal Entry
General | Posted 8 years agoI have this fear that one day, I will find myself all alone, banned by people I once considered friends, on a list of “commissioners you need to avoid”, and I will have no one to blame but myself.
I have worked with a lot of artists and writers. While I have gotten along with most of them, a few have of them no longer want to talk with me.
I admit, my behavior can sometimes not be the best. I can make poor decisions due to being compulsive at the time and not thinking about the consequences, making me come off as rude and pushy. This same impulsive behavior has also made me go "I'm low on funds. Better not spend it on any commis- Oh, this great artist is having a stream! $40? No problem!"
I am also not very social. When I get an in-stream commission, I usually leave once it is done.
However, that doesn't mean I am unemphatic or selfish. When people talk to me about my behavior, I feel bad about it. I care about how other people see me. I care about other people in general.
I should note that I have Asperger's Syndrome, which can explain some of my behavior but doesn't excuse it.
I need to think about what I say and not act on impulse.
I'm glad I could get this all off my chest. If you want to offer me some advise, I'll be glad to hear you out.

Zootopia Teaser Trailer
General | Posted 10 years agoWe already have a teaser trailer for Zootopia and the picture released earlier came from it. Makes sense.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9lmhBYB11U
This trailer explains the world of the film and what anthropomorphic animals are. I know some of you are baffled by this lession, especially since anthropomorphism of non-human things has existed since prehistoric times, but I think I know why they did this. Usually, anthros are potrayed as humans in animal costumes. With this trailer, it shows that despite the fact these animals live like humans, they are still animals with abilities and features humans don't have.
Speaking of animals, I love the character designs. I have seen Cory Loftis' work online and his style shows through on some of these background characters. The Robin Hood method really was the way to go because keeping the body shape and size of these animals makes it visually unique.
I also noticed the female characters didn't have breasts. So how could I tell? By their clothes and eyelashes. See, furries? It can be as simple as that.
I'm especially impressed with how they handle hooved animals. Outside of the furry community, they usually just keep the front hooves unchanged. Here, not only do they give them three fingers hands but they also made their hind legs plantigrade with feet that end in hooves instead of toes. That's what I usually ask for when I get commissions of hooved anthros.
Some have complained that this only shows anthro mammals. In fact, the word "mammal" has specificly been used in promotions including the teaser trailer. This leads me to belive that we will only see mammals and no other kind of anthro animals. They may have done this for a few reasons and I can think of one: food. There has always been the problem of Carnivore Confusion and I have seen it handled in different ways. Here, if there are only anthro mammals in Zootopia, that means the menu is open for birds, fishes, insects, etc. Or I could be totally worng.
Since they made it clear this is a world where humans never existed, kudos for not including any domesticated animals. Well, maybe they did by accident but no obvious ones like dogs and cats.
Finally, it seems Nick and Judy will be fun characters. This has to be some of the best CGI animation I have seen on animal characters, especially with how expressive they are. I also love the animal tics like Judy's twitchy nose and flicking ears.
I am looking forward to this movie. It may bring in some interesting people into the furry fandom.

Zootopia
General | Posted 10 years agoWell, we have our first look at Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the main characters Disney's upcoming animated film that has gotten furries excited, Zootopia.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CHFrJbP.....jVnv.jpg:large
It seems Cory Loftis (head character designer) and his team have gone with the Robin Hood method of anthropomorphism: take an animal, make it expressive, adjust the hind legs for bipedal walking, turn the forelegs into arms, and change nothing else. That is why Nick's legs are so short. I like that they went with this method. With all this talk from the filmmakers about how Zootopia is a city is made for animals by animals, it makes sense that the characters to look more animal than human.
Nick looks good but there is something off about him. Not sure what it is. I can forgive the Dreamworks face since it fits the character.
Judy is adorable. I like how non-sexualized her body is.
Finally, I like how it shows off the characters' personalities and it isn't just them stand there. I hope the teaser trailer comes out soon.

Renamon
General | Posted 10 years agoTamers is probably the best season of Digimon in terms of story and character development. One character that seemed to capture the hearts and minds of furries is Renamon. It's no wonder because not only is she a badass fighter, she also has a interesting personality and is in a unique relationship with her human partner Rika that evolves throughout the season. In fact, this Kitsune-like digimon was partially an inspiration for my own Kitsune character, Takama.
However, there is one thing that really bugs me. In most fanart I have seen of Renamon, the artists give her boobs. Like most oversexualization of female characters from children's shows, I find this unnecessary. The reason I find this one more annoying than other example is that it doesn't even make sense in terms of the show.
In the episode where the Tamers reveal their Digimon to their families before heading off into the Digital World to rescue Calumon (gotta love cartoons where the parents are actual characters), Renamon states that Digimon don't actually have genders (I only use the pronoun "she" for Renamon because of her feminine looks and voice). This is in the original Japanese and the dub. In fact, I remember when the episode aired and line stuck out to me the most. To quote JesuOtaku: "Sorry, furries. Your goddess is barren." And yet, artists seem to purposefully ignore this detail. Also, she is one of the most mature acting Digimon of the franchise, acting as a surrogate mother to some of the characters at times. Putting her in promiscuous poses and activities is not true to her character.
All of that being said, there are bright spots. Once in a while, I do see great fanart that actually respect Renamon as a character and give her a flat but fluffy chest. I usually thank these artists in the comments and they often share similar views to mine.
In the end, Renamon is a great character and I think she deserves better.

Road Rovers
General | Posted 11 years agohttp://www.wbshop.com/product/code/1000548381.do?AID=10811526&PID=3821628&ref=CJP
I never thought this would happen. Warner Bros. is releasing Road Rovers on DVD. Then again, it's a bare-bones release, and Warner Bros has been selling DVDs of cartoons with, shall we say, smaller fan bases than this one. (Dumb and Dumber, anyone?) Still, I do hear that the picture and sound quality are better than the current screenshots and clips of the show floating around the internet.
I will be honest here: Road Rovers was when I discovered my fascination for animal to anthro transformations. In fact, it was how I found the furry fandom. You see, back in 2001, I had been trying to find the right search terms, but I was getting nowhere. So I went to the Road Rovers' IMDb page, and one of the keywords used for the show was "anthropomorphic animal". I put the term into Google, and the rest is history.
I didn't watch Road Rovers during its original KidsWB run but rather when Cartoon Network was airing reruns. Looking back, it seems like was Tom Ruegger's take on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a franchise I didn't get into until the 2003 series. In fact, out of all the cartoons that tried to capitalize on the original TMNT's success, Road Rovers was one of the few (Extreme Dinosaurs, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa) that took the "animals turned into anthropomorphic beings" aspect. Other shows just had the heroes start out as humans or be born that way.
As for my feelings on Road Rovers now, I haven't seen it in a while, but something tells me it wouldn't hold up to scrutiny. Also, I have mixed feelings on the show's fandom. While I can admire their dedication, most of them seem to forget that this was made by the same guy who created Animaniacs and Freakazoid. Sure, the series wasn't a total laugh fest, but it did have jokes like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxVasZV4Pbo In other words, I think they take it just a tiny bit too seriously.
All the same, this is an exciting development. Who knows? Maybe I will revisit it for old time's sake.
P.S. One thing I find amusing is that Animaniacs once made a joke about Sheena Easton and a few years later, she was cast as the main villain's second-in-command in this show.

Well, this brings back awkward moments...
General | Posted 11 years agohttp://awdplace.tumblr.com/post/109.....im-sure-im-not
I am guilty of doing this so many times, it's not even funny.
Me: Wow, thank you for give me a slot! You rarely show up and I just had to get a commission from you!
Artist: No problem! So what do you want?
Me: Um... I'll get back to you on that. Give me 5 minutes.
OR
Me: Would you like to draw this animal or this one?
Artist: You choose. It's YOUR commission, after all.
Me: Right...
So for anyone I have gotten a commission from before and experienced this, sorry. I'll try not to waffle next time.

Assumption Meme
General | Posted 11 years agoWhy not? Everyone else is doing one and since I post little about myself, this might be amusing.
The rules here are simple: Post in the comments to give your assumptions about me and I will respond to tell you whether or not you are correct.

An Important Announcement
General | Posted 12 years agoDon't worry. I am not leaving FA. In fact, most of the artists I watch are not leaving FA despite the drama. Instead, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that I am taking a temporary break from commissions.
In a few days, I'm going into a program that teaches about independent living and I need to put my money into things like groceries and bills. This break might end if I save enough cash or even get a job but who knows. I might show up in a few streams to chat if I have the chance.
In the meantime, I am at an important step in my life and I hope you will all support me.
Edit: I may do commissions for special occasions but only if I have enough money left over for other things important in my ife.

HI!
General | Posted 12 years agoAs you know, I am EHH123. You may know me as the guy who commissions feral to anthro TFs. However, I am much more than that. I have a LOVE of history. In fact, I graduated college with Bachelor's degree for it this spring. I also have a love for animation in all mediums. This is why I get annoyed when anyone calls CGI "soulless".
Anyway, with a new year coming, I need to think about what to do with my life. Maybe I can become a writer. I have plenty of story ideas both involving anthropomorphic animals and/or humans. Maybe I can become an actor. I have a few experiences in theater, love to act out songs, and have a bit of vocal range. Maybe I can take the Wallace Shawn approach and do both.
One thing is for sure: I need to spend my money more carefully; say "no" more often to a stream of my favorite artist when I am low on cash, especially when they have high base prices.
I may use this journal again to talk about different subject like furries, TF, and other miscellaneous things. Who knows, I may even post reviews of movies and TV.
Until then, Happy Holidays!
