Sad News About Rusty Haller...
General | Posted 16 years agoCartoonist Rusty Haller has passed away today, as reported by his roommate on his FurAffinity journal. Rusty suffered from diabetes for many years, though it was undiagnosed for some time. He was 45 years old. (I have not confirmed this death announcement with any outside sources yet.)
Rusty had a long and varied career in comics, starting in the mid-1980's, with work-for-hire on Deputy Dawg comics. He did a lot of contract work for Marvel on their licensed comics line in the early and mid 1990's, including titles like Alf, Danger Mouse, and Count Duckula. In the last few years, Rusty had been working on his creator owned series, Ace & Queenie, a charming funny animal send-up of Sixties spy films. The series ran in Furrlough on an irregular schedule, starting in issue #146. He also regularly contributed to Hit the Beach and did regular commission work for his fans.
I just talked to Rusty on the phone a few days ago, and we were full of plans to put Ace & Queenie up on the Radio Comix site with an eye towards a future collected print version. We also chatted about some other ideas he'd had kicking around for a few years- comics that could now come to light, with the advent of web publishing. I'm deeply saddened that all those great ideas will come to naught, and that Rusty's dreams can't be realized now.
Rusty was one of the nicest people we've had the pleasure of working with. He was always upbeat and positive, and he was a solid worker when it came to his pages. A consummate professional, he always welcomed honest criticism and constantly strove to improve his work.
He was a great guy, and I will miss him. His sometimes silly, sometimes serious stories always made me smile.

New Comic Pages Up! And Auctions!
General | Posted 16 years agoSmudge has a new page of Bureau of Mana Investigation up!
And, Smudge has a new page of Ebin & May up!
And if that wasn't enough comic goodness, Mel. White has a new page of Coyote up as well!
All this, and more, free to read every week at the new, improved RadioComix.com website! Bookmark it, y'all!
Soon, soon, once Will gets his new Wacom pen in (the previous one died in the move...), there will also be Trouble Express and Havoc, INC. pages going up. (Stuff is in the cleanup stage, which requires the use of the pen. It's slow going doing Photoshop stuff with the mouse.) Also, Ace & Queenie, Tiger Team Three and Pervert Club! There's even talk of Wildlifers being archived there!
Anyway, I mentioned auctions, because I have new auctions up! Please buy my stuff! We are also working on clearing out things we have duplicates on, so there's some nice stuff up. And I'm also auctioning a couple of fairly hard to find PlayStation 1 video games for Will. Check them out! More to come later in the week.

NEWS: Duncan & Mallory Coming Soon!
General | Posted 16 years agoWe are very excited to announce the addition of a classic fantasy comic to our webcomics lineup! Cartoonist Mel. White and the late author Robert Asprin first collaborated on Duncan & Mallory in the heady days of the 1980's comic boom, leaving fans clamoring for more. Now, White will be creating new strips featuring these beloved characters- Duncan, the hapless adventurer, and Mallory, the small, vegetarian blue dragon.
The strips will debut on the Radio Comix Online site, and have regular, weekly updates. We are extremely proud to be a part of the return of this classic comic strip!
####
I am super excited about this addition to our site! I am really thrilled with the idea of more of this great strip, finally, after all these years, and of course, getting to work with Mel. is fantastic.
And oh yes, don't forget Smudge Hanson's Ebin & May has been updating every Wednesday like clockwork on the Radio Comix site! Don't miss out!

Ads and Anthrocon and Auctions, Ahoy!
General | Posted 16 years agoLots of small update bits, since I am flinging myself headlong into packing up everything in the Radio apartment for the Impending Move this month, in between Radio work and day job work.
--WE HAVE AD SIGN! No, seriously, we have the first two ad boxes with Project Wonderful up on the Radio Comix Online site! We have ad boxes in two flavors: skyscraper and half-banner, and the minimum bid is a paltry $0.05 per spot. So, if you are looking for damn cheap advertising space for your online comics or sites, please give it a look-see! We're going to have more ad boxes throughout the site as time goes on, but just wanted to get the first two up asap. ^_^ (They are currently filled with the temp files that Will made... heh...)
--WE WILL *NOT* BE AT ANTHROCON. Between the Impending Move (which HAS to happen) and the day job, there's just no way it could possibly be pulled off this year. We'll definitely be there with bells on next year, but fear not! My esteemed colleague Fuzzwolf, he of FurPlanet fame, will have some of our latest books with him on consignment. So, you'll still be able to get your Radio Comix fix, just not directly from my tiny hands. FurPlanet will be at tables A-16 through A-18, so be sure to go check them out at the convention.
--I am even more desperate to get more of this STUFF out of the Radio apartment, so there are plenty more fresh auctions on eBay from me! I'll also be putting up some more FurBuy auctions soon, once I get some more things sorted out.
New eBay auctions are here in this link! Bargain basement prices on this stuff, please check it out!
In other stuff, work continues apace on the two sites. We're still in Deep Planning on the new formats for the print books, so not much can be said about those yet. Also, it's 106 degrees here in San Antonio. The heat just saps the energy right out of me and makes me want to eat nothing but sorbet for dinner. Back to work! I've got to figure out why the Radio Comix Online Store isn't resolving.

The Busy, Let Me Show You It
General | Posted 16 years agoIt has been crazy busy all last month and this month looks to get even busier, as A-Kon 20 approaches! Here's what is on my plate:
--turn in our last twp floppy comics to the printers; those would be Genus #91 and Genus Presents: Bun-Buns #1. After those two, we will be concentrating wholly on putting comics on our websites, and doing semi-annual perfect bound books and graphic novel collections of stuff that debuts online. The comic industry has changed, and we are changing with it!
--get more stuff prepped to post to Radio Comix Online. Coming soon: Havoc, Inc., Trouble Express, Bureau of Mana Investigation and a Furrlough section! Ebin & May has already started, and has been updating like clockwork, thanks to the tireless efforts of Smudge.
--The Radio Comix Forum is back online, and already chugging along with our usual brand of lively discussion! Go check it out!
--As I said before, A-Kon 20 is coming up, and once again, I am working staff for the show (this is in addition to doing panels as a guest of the kon, and running the Radio tables in the dealer's room... I am apparently a glutton for punishment). Cosplay Staff, to be specific, which means I'm already up to my ears in entry forms and show scheduling. ^_^ Since it is the 20th anniversary of A-Kon, Kyle the Silent and I are trying to put together a video clip of past A-Kon cosplay to open the show with; fingers crossed we'll be able to get it done in time for the show!
--Still have to prep all the stock for A-Kon, and get it all packed up. Also, somewhat related, there's going to be a lot of work in the storage units in my future, as we finish the organization process there that Matt started.
--Still have to get things arranged for Anthrocon; I'm running behind on that stuff, but hopefully I can get it managed in time.
--Chunking more stuff so we can move once our lease on the Radio apartment expires. Even though we just moved last year, there's still tons of stuff to go through, pack or get rid of. This is consuming my brain.
--Planning the wedding reception Mr. Suarez and I didn't get to do last year. (We were married by the justice of the peace at the courthouse; the reception was always planned to be this year in October.) I admit, I am not concentrating on this enough and need to step up my game on it asap!
--Dealing with more day to day business stuff, mail order, auctions, etc. There's lots of that to deal with, and the auctions are important because I need to clear out more of this accumulate STUFF so we can move! To that end, auction plugs to follow this paragraph. ^_^ The FurBuy part is empty at the moment, but I will have fresh ones posted by the evening of 5/8/09, so check back!

Minor Thoughts and Auction Spam
General | Posted 16 years ago--Finally, the SinFactoryComix.com (NSFW!) site login works again. PD was able to get it fixed, after much fussing at the host. Joy!
--The bare bones of the new Radio Comix site are up now; forum to come soon. Then comics! Lots of free comics! Ad boxes will be added last, most likely- there's not enough content there now to get them set up yet. Ignore the giant grey bars where ad boxes will go, please and thank you.
--The Radio Comix Online Store just got updated a few days ago with new goodies and old goodies alike.
--EDIT TO ADD: The Radio Comix Forums are BACK! Yay! Go register!
--This week at the comic store: thirteen items we advance ordered through Diamond came back cancelled with code 28. That's the new code for "didn't sell enough, we're not making a purchase order for it, can't get it from us". A few of the items were anime DVD box sets we ordered for the rental system, a couple were special orders for customers, some were just things my manager thought would be neat to carry. We're going to have to find alternate methods of distribution for many of these items, which seems counterproductive to Diamond Doing More Business. Sure, they'll save money not having to stock these items, but they're basically saying "go somewhere else and give them your wholesale dollars!", which just seems really ill-conceived in this economy.
The store I work at has no problem with going through alternate distribution channels, because it is a Good Store. I feel only sadness for retailers who won't take the extra time and trouble to do this, because they will eventually go out of business. Because if we can't get something in? Oh yes, customers can and will go online and buy things there. Driving customers out of brick & mortar stores and onto online stores? Not the wisest move.
--I am in the midst of preparing for doing our taxes. This means we have to pay the accountant, and he isn't cheap. (And yay, we have to pay him the same time rent AND storage rent are due! How fun!) Hence, more auction spam to immediately follow.

Bullets for This Week
General | Posted 17 years agoCopied from my LJ once again, mostly because I have no time anymore to carefully craft a different journal for each site I'm on (especially since I want to say the same things on each one... heh...)
--Day job work has been busy. However, I learned at a staff meeting that our comic store's take was up 24% in January. That's crazy! In this economy? Color me surprised.
--I guess it's pretty much official: floppy pamphlet-style Furrlough will be going away after issue #189. It doesn't meet Diamond's new purchase order cutoff point in sales, so we will be retooling the book into something else. Probably a perfect bound doujinshi-style type thing, that comes out more infrequently, and which has a much higher price point. (Graphic novels are the wave of the future, anyway. Them and online comics.)
--Speaking of online comics, we are hammering away at the retooled Radio Comix website. Why yes, it will have gobs of comics posted on it for free! Including stuff like Ebin & May and Havoc, Inc.. I'm really excited. Pretty much all our new non-adult titles will debut there once the back-end coding is all done.
--In adult comic news, the SinFactoryComix.com site is being converted so it will play nice with Dreamweaver, which will mean more frequent updates there as well. We will also debut new adult stories there, before publishing them in dead-tree format. (As of this writing, Genus is still doing okay. Yay!)
--The Furrlough Color Special has gone to press! It's being printed in China, so we'll get to finally see it in a few months. I'm really excited about this project! Everyone in it did a really great job on their stuff!
--The Radio Online Store was updated recently with new goodies.
Other things on my plate this week: website stuff, paying the printer for a couple of books, mail order stuff, and starting work on the taxes for last year. I hate tax time the most, it's so stressful. We always end up owing money, which we have to chip away at slowly. I'm trying to stay positive about things like money though, since everyone I know is poor right now and well, we've always been poor, so what's the point of whining? All we can do is work hard and do our best.
I have new auctions up as well!

Hot Fresh Auctions!
General | Posted 17 years agoJust a quick post to plug my latest batch of auctions; there'll be more going up in the following days. (I always have new ones!) Not only are we trying to reduce the heaps of stuff, I also just got my Further Confusion plane ticket, and I need to pay that off! So, please check out the auctions!
New eBay auctions are in this link!
Mostly comics, manga, graphic novels, and the occasional geek-oriented item (like magazines or gaming stuff). All work-safe.
New FurBuy auctions are here!
I finally broke down and am trying this spot for auctioning various furry comics, zines and folios. Not Safe For Work.
New FurBid auctions are here!
I still like FurBid a lot, so there's stuff there as well. (Plus, I have so many good feedback there!) Most of it is similar to the FurBuy auctions, though. Again, Not Safe For Work.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled posting. Tomorrow is new comic book day at the store, so I'll be busy all morning with that. Then it's home to work on Radio stuff, as usual. I'm getting the master pull list ready for the con stock for Further Confusion so we can hopefully ship it out next week. So, lots to do!
Also, Blue Monday: Thieves Like Us #1 comes out tomorrow. BUY IT! XD

Furrlough Rankings
General | Posted 17 years agoThe latest version of the Top 100 Furrlough Stories list has been posted over at the Radio Comix LJ. Go take a peek, see where the stories rank!
In other stuff, we're in the middle of a deadline crunch from heck. It's awful! I need to poke everyone regarding their Genus: Male stories as well. Can't believe it's already that time of year! I have a closing shift at the store today as well, so I've gotta get a lot done before I can go in.

Con Season, Already?!
General | Posted 17 years agoSo, Further Confusion is staring me in the face in January, and shortly after that, Furry Fiesta is looming in February. Plus, Anthrocon dealer registration is apparently open, and I need to get on the stick about that. (And yes, there is A-Kon stuck in there in June before Anthrocon, which I have to start getting organized for also...) Conventions coming up mean travel expenses, dealer table fees, temporary tax ID organizing, stock shipment (ship ahead? drive it there?) and all that fun stuff. And that means I look at the convention fund hole (box? envelope? drawer?) and go "Holy Smokes, I better get some auctions up!"
So, I have new auctions up. Comics, manga, anime doodads, sci-fi stuff, magazines and a couple of old RPG items.
All the new auctions from me can be seen in this link!
Please check them out! Lading boxes of comics to other states is expensive! Especially when our home state counts for huge chunks of the shipping!

Email Fun! And Auctions, Again...
General | Posted 17 years agoThere was a lovely surprise today when I saw the new Previews at the day job, and I discovered that amazingly, our section was missing. Uh, what?
Turns out, through the mystical magic of email communication, Diamond never received the solicitation emails we sent off for the February 2009 books. (These were sent in October...) Fabulous! So, the rescheduled solicitation for Genus #90 will be put in the catalog for items shipping in March 2009, but we're still printing the book in February like we planned. (Hopefully, that's not too confusing.) So, this was no one's fault at all, just one of those "well, this works 99.9% of the time..." kind of things. It's still irksome, since it consumed a lot of time today trying to find out What Happened. Also, plans have been made to ensure that we get (more, better, some) confirmation that the solicitations are being received safely.
In other stuff, we have sent the printers the payment for Milk Presents: Greek Fire #1, and so hopefully, that will ship to the distros before the end of the month. Milk Presents: XXX-Mas #1 is safely at the printers, and being worked on. We are now desperately working on Porndexters #3 and Furrlough #187, so if you're an artist with stuff for either book, get it in to us ASAP! It's also now time to start on that fun Genus: Male #8 stuff. ^_^
I still need to finalize plans for Further Confusion, since January is coming faster than you might suspect. Thus, I am still saving up for travel and con expenses, so please, check out my eBay auctions! Not only can you participate in helping me remove stuff from these hellishly overstuffed premises, but you can get fun things for bargain prices! It's a win-win!

I Got To Keep Moving
General | Posted 17 years agoA rare weekday off today, so I have been working since dawn on Radio stuff. Here's what's gotten done so far:
--answered email (more to go, there's hundreds in there)
--logged con sales in the inventory system (done over breakfast)
--printed mail order invoices for our records
--printed packing slips for mail order
--packed up some more trib copies for mail run tonight (tons more still to do, but can only send out a batch a week or the postage costs go crazy)
--posted auctions
--packed up eBay stuff to ship
--made sure the online store newsletter went out
--updated the website (actually, did this last night...)
Still to do:
--get mail order ready to go out
--go to post office
--finish Milk Presents: XXX-Mas and get it turned in to the printers (it was a production nightmare...)
Probably not going to make it today (tomorrow before work most likely, and some on Saturday):
--unpack more boxes in office
--answer more submissions
--buy printer paper/printer ink
--back up everything on the iMac
--check inventory of backstock
The iMac is misbehaving. It's quite old (a Blue Dalmatian), and is mostly only used for printing invoices and stuff that needs to be done in either our ancient version of GoLive or MS Word. However, last night, after I updated the creaky old Radio site, it decided to shut itself off- and then refused to allow itself to be turned back on. @_@ Called up PD, he walked me through some trouble-shooting, turned out the printer was grounding it out. So now it works again, and the printer is hooked up to my PC. Now comes the fun of sucking all the important data off that machine and backing it up, because the power supply may be on its last legs. It's served me well though, so it can retire. But unfortunately, this means we need to get some new, upgraded software for the PC- so hey, it's a good thing I have those auctions going, huh? I'll also be saving up for some other hardware stuff we're going to need in the near future. And oy, it's time to start saving up for travel costs for Further Confusion too.
Thus, Check Out My Auctions! The usual interesting array of comics, graphic novels, manga and rare magazines!
Now, back to work for me! There's a lot to do!
REMINDER FOR OUR ARTISTS: The next books we work on are going to be Porndexters #3 (nerd girls, mad scientist girls, girls in glasses, rated R to X of course) and Furrlough #187, so if you have stuff for either book, let me know asap!

Busy, WoW and Auctions...
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's crazy busy. I am working my normal shifts at the comic shop day job, we have a passel of deadlines sitting on our heads and making us cranky, and there aren't enough hours in the day. Today, I had to spend a couple of hours of my after-work Radio-time dealing with the new PCI DSS compliance certification thing that all merchants who accept credit cards have to deal with now. Here's hoping our online store gets certified, because otherwise our credit card processing company will tack an extra charge onto our bill every month. (And this of course comes *after* ViSA and MasterCard raised their rates for everyone... ah, to be a retailer, all of the risk, none of the enormous wads of lovely money.) I'm peevish about this because we have an SSL certificate, use solidly secure hosting for the online store and have good encryption going on. On top of that, in the four years we've had our online store set up to take credit cards, we have had exactly *ONE* attempted charge-back, which was reversed in our favor thanks to tracking on the package. (We used to be PayPal-only before the new store went live, until they instituted their snarky "nothing mature ever" policy- which is when we promptly cancelled our account with them...) Anyway, this new certification thing has me all nervous, because I am worried they will think we don't do enough to safeguard our customer information, though we have taken every precaution possible and I know our hosting company is exceptionally good about security. It's still worrisome. Because if the credit card companies decide they don't approve of your PCI DSS certification? They can *fine* you- to the tune of $1 million! (Which, really, good luck trying to get that from me, har har...) And naturally, the regular quarterly certification service is going to possibly cost money as well- not 100% sure or clear on that yet. Cost of doing business...
In other stuff, we are beating our heads against these deadlines. Three books we're working on- Milk Presents: Greek Fire #1 (by the ever popular
poinko Poinko and
King_Cheetah Shon Howell -we are a bit behind on it due to previous books being backed up- but it goes to the printers tomorrow!) Milk Presents: XXX-Mas #1 and Furrlough #187! XXX-Mas is another fine Shon Howell brainstorm- adults only lesbian Christmas elf goodness. (Imagine if all of Santa's elves were female. And very, very bored. Plus, since Shon is involved, you know it's gonna be funny as well!) We've got some stuff in hand already for XXX-Mas from when it was previously solicited, so if you sent stuff in before, just ignore this next sentence! If you are an artist who works for us and you have goodies for either book, let Will know! (that email again is willworks (at) gmail (dot) com!) Remember also, we have the larger page count limit in Furrlough, because of the new 48-page format! That means stories can be up to 22 pages long! Woot! We just got Furrlough #186 in from the printers, so I'll be updating the Radio online store tomorrow, most likely. Oh, and we sent off the solicits to Diamond for the March 2009 books, and I have been getting more trib copies packed up for people (but far too painfully slowly for my liking...).
Tonight there is a midnight release for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. Because I still have that monkey on my back, I have been saving my pennies for months so I can buy my copy tonight. I won't get to play it until next week-ish sometime though, if then. Work comes first. (My new "wake up at 6 am every morning with the husband" sleep schedule doesn't help things either... though I get a lot done in the three to four hours I am awake before I go to work... the downside is being exhausted by 11 pm, which makes me feel like a grandma!) I still seem to be working 12-13 hour days most days, if you add up the day job shifts and the Radio work time. So, it's a reduction of my former 16-20 hour days of the past. Yay?
And finally, of course, I have new auctions up! I have lots of stuff to clear out and need money for various sundry things I am saving up for (fun things, like taxes and convention expenses!), so please feel free to take a look! Lots of comics, manga, magazines, etc.
New eBay auctions are here!
(I'd like to post more FurBid auctions too, since I have a bunch of stuff that can only go there, but I have had no time...)
Now, to finish up an editorial for the next Radio Waves, and then eat something for dinner.

And Soon, Another Convention Trip...
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's been busy here, thus the lack of posting. After the whole scheduling/deadline debacle situation, we got Furrlough #185 and Hit the Beach #14 turned in to the printers; they should ship to the distros by the end of the month. Genus #89 has been re-solicited for December 2008 release, and as I mentioned before, Milk #64 (and subsequently, Milk #65) was cancelled. (The stories planned for those issues will be released on the SinFactoryComix.com site instead. Which means potential dead-tree form versions later in the form of Milk specials...)
This weekend, we will be venturing out to Mephit FurMeet in Memphis, TN. (It will be myself, Matt High and Radio Pal Dan; El Suarez (my fiance) has to work, and Will is taking a much-delayed visit to his parents.) We'll be sharing table space with Phil Morrissey as we usually do at the convention; I expect we'll do okay there. It's always a good con for us.
In the meantime, I am working a lot at the comic-store day job to make up for the time I asked off for the con (and for the day I had to ask off for so we could get those two books I mentioned earlier turned in on time...). It continues to be a job I am decent at doing and I am finally getting to know the regular customers so I can recognize them when they come in. It's only minimum wage, but I'm doing about 34 hours per week. Then I come home, eat something and then do Radio work until I absolutely can't stay awake anymore. No one said this comic thing would be easy.

All Business!
General | Posted 17 years agoThat's what this weekend will be.
First, the bad news: Genus #89, the one we just sent to the printer mere days ago, will *not* be coming out in a few weeks. It will be resolicited for December 2008 (the month we just sent solicitation information for to Diamond) What has happened is that on our last few months of purchase orders, we had these incredibly loooong cutoff dates. "How odd!" we thought, but it certainly worked to our advantage due to con season and having to move. Well, not so much, since apparently the cutoff dates weren't *supposed* to be that long. Thus, while we thought we had time to ship this book, the Diamond system corrected itself, and so we were informed the purchase order for that issue of Genus had already expired. But, the bright sunny part is that Diamond wants to carry Genus very much (it sells well for them), so they are working with us to make sure it still happens. This will also probably mean some monthly issues of Genus in early 2009 to get caught up. So, it works out for everyone! (And no, I am not mad at Diamond at all, we were the ones who should have paid better attention to the weirdness of the extra-long purchase order cutoff dates...)
The corrected cutoff dates also mean we have to bust our behinds to get the next two books in on Monday, August 18th. Those books are Furrlough #185, in the awesome new 48-page format, and Hit the Beach #14. (Going by the old, incorrect dates we had a couple of extra weeks, which I should have known was not accurate, as it gave us lots of extra time!) Sadly, this date-shifting means that the last couple issues of Milk are going to be published on the SinFactoryComix.com (NSFW!) site instead of in dead tree form. It's too bad, but there's no point in cancelling and resoliciting the last two issues of a series. (Milk was already scheduled to move to the web anyway after issue #65- instead, the dead tree forms were going to be done as specials and one-shots every so often, a la "Milk Presents" and "Milk Spotlight On", so this isn't a major change in plans. I'm excited about this, since it will keep the name out there and also keep it fresh. Plus, the web is really the future of comics.)
I'm very excited about the new format for Furrlough since it means the artists can do longer story chapters if they so choose- no more trying to edit something down into 8 page chunks. A 22-page chunk totally wouldn't be out of the question. It does means fewer covers per year though, since it is going to be on a bimonthly schedule. (It'd be downright impossible to fill 48 pages every month!) We're also still working on getting the boring backend of web hosting set up to lay the groundwork for the new RadioComix.com site- where we intend to have a lot of comics archived for free (it'll have ads for revenue), as well as a place to debut new content that we want to publish in dead tree format later. Did I mention the web is the future of comics?
Anyway, tons to do rescheduling stuff and getting these two books prepped and ready for the printers. Figured I should post about it though, so people would know what's going on. ^_^ Busy and hectic, as always!

Anthrocon Bound! (And, Hit the Beach...)
General | Posted 17 years agoYes, it's almost time to go to another convention, thus it's time for me to make a to-do list. We will be at Anthrocon in Pittsburgh the weekend of June 26-29!
Here is everything I need to get done before we leave for the con:
Radio work:
--find out if Anubis: Dark Desire #4 will need to be shipped overnight to the con
--send shipping information to the printers
--send printing specs for Furrlough #183 to the printers (and shipping information)
--check mail at the PMB (every day)
--ship as much mail order as possible
--process auctions
--ship as many auctions as possible
--pull and prep final bits of convention stock
--pull and pack as many trib copies as possible to deliver at the con
--start laying out Furrlough #184, Milk #63 and Hit the Beach #14 (if you have stuff for these, get it in asap please!)
--go to bank to get change
--process orders
Personal:
--work day job shift(s)
--do laundry
--pack clothes & toiletries
--charge DS and iPod (it's a road trip...)
--go to bank to make sure the ridiculous $1065 month-to-month rent can be paid
--pay deposit for new apartment ($250)
--pay rent (yes, a whole week early, since we will be returning when it's due)
--make sure new lease is ready to sign (If ready, sign it.)
--pack more boxes to move (we move as soon as we get back from Anthrocon... yes, really...)
IMPORTANT!
If you are an artist who has done work for us and you will be at Anthrocon, LET ME KNOW NOW! I am going to the storage unit tomorrow to pull trib copy comics, since I MUST pack them up for transport on Sunday. (Friday I work at the day job, Saturday I will be doing errands and laundry, and we leave on Tuesday.) If you tell me on Monday that you are attending the con, it will be TOO LATE for me to excavate things from the storage units.
Re: Hit the Beach #14: we have a few pages open, so if you were planning to do a swimsuit illo for it, better get it in NOW. (Or give it to us at the con.) We'll have to start putting it together as soon as we get home from the con. Please email the illo (plus your pen name, real name, and actual physical snailmail address, otherwise we can't send you trib copies) to Will at willworks (at) gmail (dot) com. This issue features a brand new cover by TRUMP, so it's shaping up very nicely!
Page dimension information is located here. Standard HTB guidelines apply: it has to feature anthropomorphic characters (or anime-style cat-girl type characters), swimsuits must be involved somehow, no more than a PG-13 rating, try to avoid horizontally-oriented illos (they confuse the printers), black & white art only. (You could send color, but we'd just grayscale it.)
Now, off to do massive amounts of stuff. We are driving to the con, so I am losing two days on either side of it. Argh! (That also means four days I can't work the dayjob and get paid there! Double argh!)

News From Me....
General | Posted 17 years agoMy good friend Eddie Perkins and his mom (and all their pets) have had to evacuate from his apartment due to the wildfire that is raging in Paradise, California. His mom had to evac yesterday from her house to Ed's apartment, and then today, they had to evac to a friend's place. However, he has no internet access, so he called me this morning to let me know they were all right and to ask me to post this for him. Here's hoping the fire doesn't get worse!
In other things, I've been working so much this week, hence the lack of posting. Today is my last shift of the week at the new day job (at the local comic store, I started working there last week), and in between work there, I've turned in the October solicitations (Genus #91 and Milk Presents: Greek Fire #1, a collection of goodies by
King_Cheetah and
poinko), dealt with the printer about Anubis: Dark Desire #4, paid the printer for same, dealt with auction stuff, packed and shipped mail order and auctions, answered email, processed orders, pulled restock from storage, shipped a retailer reorder, worked on subscriptions, planned more for the Anthrocon trip, and packed more boxes for the Big Move. Yeah, it's been a little busy here.
Fresh auctions are up, because 1) I still need to get rid of a lot of stuff and am unearthing more every day, and 2) we still need extra funds for the move. (We're still on the horrific month-to-month rent, which is ridiculously high.)
Obligatory Plugs:
eBay auctions are here! Comics, manga, anime doodads, books, and more!
FurBid auctions are here! Furry comics and adult comics!
My Amazon storefront is here! Graphic novels galore! (Some of the manga listed have sold, I don't know why they are still listed, it's weird.)
The Radio Comix Online Store is here! All the Radio Comix titles you could hope for, plus yaoi and adult comics from other companies!
The SinFactoryComix.com adult site is here! (WARNING: Not Safe For Work!) Now featuring Trump!

More Auction Stuff and Moving!
General | Posted 17 years agoWell, we have determined when our Big Move is happening: that would be mid-July. It would honestly have been more economical to do it in June, but that would have been impossible, due to A-Kon being the first weekend in June and Anthrocon being the last weekend in June. I am now officially Too Old to do two conventions in one month *and* move to a new apartment in that same month. The jury is still out on whether I can survive two cons in one month as it is...
We will be moving into a smaller (read: cheaper) apartment. The Radio Comix mailing address WILL NOT CHANGE. (We have a UPS Store mailbox, the same one we've had for oh, eleven years now.) We honestly just can't afford the larger apartment anymore, at least not considering that dayjob work has been thin on the ground all this year/last year. (I have an interview for a new dayjob on Friday, but naturally, I won't know if I get it or gain any income from it for quite some time after that if I do get it...) The move has to happen, because we just can't afford to keep paying for the apartment we have now. So, we move in July.
Anyway, as this is the plan we are moving forward with, that means that we have to pay the month-to-month rent rate for June. Which we have to pay before we drive up to A-Kon on the 29th of this month. (Yeah, month-to-month rent doesn't have the three-day grace period regular rent has- and we will be in Dallas on the 1st. Thus, rent has to be paid before we leave.) So, we have to come up with $1065 before the end of this month! AUCTIONS, HO! (And other plugs!)

In other things, we cut our cable TV today, which will hopefully save us some money over time. We still have internet and phone through the cable company, because they are the cheapest deal available. But, the cable box has been turned in to Time Warner, even though they really, really wanted us to reconsider.

A-Kon 08: Who is Going?!
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's that time. I need to get a final headcount of who all is going to A-Kon that is a Radio artist. I don't have a final count on how many badges we will be able to request for our group (waiting to hear back from con staff), but I can at least do write-ups for our section of the program book. (Which I may already be too late for- but we will have a full page ad in the book where we plug all our artists who are showing up! If I know you're coming, we can at least advertise you! That is if they haven't sent this thing to the printers yet...)
TELL ME NOW IF YOU ARE A RADIO ARTIST ATTENDING A-KON THIS YEAR!
I already have several Radio staffers and helpers down for some of our assigned dealer/guest badges, which brings our definite badge count up to nine. I don't know how many more over that I can reasonably request, because I don't want to be "that company that takes advantage and tries to get twenty-five free badges". (Convention staff tend to look askance at such companies/groups, and then you don't get invited back...) Either way, let me know what your plans are so I can at least do some promotion for folks! (If I know you are going, I can also bring contributor copies to the con- otherwise, we won't have extras.)
Let me know ASAP! I have to get busy on that advertisement.

Various Work Update
General | Posted 17 years agoWork has been kicking my ass in the dirt lately. There's just so much stuff to do. I also might be up for a new day job (possibly, maybe), I sent off my resume and am waiting to hear back on an interview. Don't get too excited, it's retail, as usual. (But possibly, it will actually give me some hours as my current day job is, uh, still cutting everyone back.)
We finally got the online store security certificate issue straightened out, a mere eleven days after it went wonky. But now the store is back to normal, and there's even a new issue of Genus freshly posted for sale today. That would be #87, for those keeping track and the first issue back on board after the hiatus. (November through January were skip months for Genus and Milk, so we could get caught up on the lateness caused by the whole changing printers deal, in case anyone missed that memo...)
In other things, I am being crushed by paperwork. We are working on Furrlough #183 and Genus #88 (so naturally, if you have stuff for those, let us know somehow...) There is a lot of mail order to get prepped, we have to pay another printer bill this week, and there's still all that work in the storage units that has to be finished. (More culling and purging, more stuff set aside for A-Kon pre-reg bags, etc. Speaking of the goodies for A-Kon, we have to work out a way/time to make a road trip up to Dallas before the con to drop the stuff off. It will seriously be cheaper to drive it there than to pay to ship it all there...) And we are confirmed on both our tables for Anthrocon 2008 and Further Confusion 2009, so there are two headaches out of my hair. I still haven't done my pro registration for SDCC, because honestly, I have no idea yet if we're even going. (Suarez and Will would like to go, I just don't know where we'd stay or how we'd get there... that con has become a logistical nightmare.) Convention season is coming up so fast and as usual, it is stressing me out terribly.
In less stressful news, I was able to see the two new episodes of my beloved Doctor Who, thanks to my friend the Uberbob. Episode 2 was especially fun because they used the sets from Rome. I am liking the new season very much, and find Catherine Tate to be pretty entertaining as Donna. In other personal news, we are going to have to cancel our cable TV, because we just can't afford it. Ah well, we'll have internet at least.
As usual, I have tons of auctions, please check them out! (Still saving up for taxes/moving...)

Hot Fresh Auctions!
General | Posted 17 years agoWe are coming off of a hellish deadline (two books, uploaded to the printers, hooray- and it was harder on Will than it was on me, by a long shot, poor guy...), so I have not had much time to post. Got the tax paperwork mailed off, though we had to go pick up the paperwork from the accountant. Yay. We owe the usual amount, which is around 5K. *faints* (We still haven't finished paying off from last year, either. Ugh.)
Anyway, since there's all this money we owe all over the place, and we also are still trying to get rid of stuff/save up for the impending moving, there are MORE AUCTIONS UP.
Check it check it check it, yo:

I've also been going through my original art collection and sadly, looks like I will be parting with some of the art I bought at various furry conventions over the years. I just don't have the space for it, even though it's all very cute and nice (and often, by friends of mine). I think it should go to new homes where people will enjoy it, instead of sitting in boxes in the back of the closet. (Of course, I am keeping pieces that were gifts or presents.)
In other things, the Radio Comix Online Store's security certificate expired with no warning (or perhaps with warnings that I personally did not receive), so I had to pay to get that reinstated. Now if it would just update so the annoying popup would stop coming up, that would be nice.
I'm off to eat something and fall over so I can do more work tomorrow. My sleep cycle is all messed up from all this work and stress and worry about money.

Convention Stuff and Work
General | Posted 17 years agoWell, it appears the Doubletree hotel for Further Confusion 2009 has already filled their room block. And whoops, we hadn't gotten a reservation in yet. We'll be staying off-site in whatever other hotel is nearest, it looks like. Our table reservations were sent off with payment, so that's good. I have to start making the convention season gameplan, for A-Kon 2008, Anthrocon 2008 and Mephit Furmeet 2008. I don't know if we can squeeze any other conventions in, unless they are local. (Read: in Texas, in driving distance.)
August comic release information must be sent off to Diamond this week also, so I am working on that today. Soliciting Genus #88, as per our new alternating schedule with Furrlough and Genus.
We're still working on Milk #62 and Furrlough #182. Furrlough #181 is still at the printers. Also to do this week: more work in the storage units, as we collect freebies for A-Kon.
Now would be a good time for artists to start thinking about Hit the Beach 2008 submissions- the deadline is June 1st. If you sent us a piece last year (when we had to postpone the book because of the printer switchover mess), don't worry about it, that one will be your submission. As always, all submissions need to go to Will at willworks (at) gmail (dot) com. Page dimensions and such can be found on our forum.
Also of interest on the forum, the Top 100 Furrlough stories for March, as voted on by the readers. There's a follow-up post in there that tracks some more to 225.
In fangirl news, I couldn't wait and saw the season finale of Torchwood, which made me very sad. But then I saw the new season opener of Doctor Who and was made cheerful again! I love David Tennant. Also, I like Catherine Tate's Donna as a Companion. I am a happy, happy nerd girl today.
Random Fact of the Day: San Antonio is now #2 on the Fattest Cities in America list. We are the Buffet Kings here after all...

Busy Times
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's still tax season, so it's still busy around here.
Biggest point of order today is sending off the application/payment for our Further Confusion 2009 table and for Trump's FC09 table. (I always help with their paperwork and American tax stuff, in addition to helping them with their table sales. It just makes it easier for them.) That has to be postmarked with today's date, so I've got to get that out without fail. Then I cross my fingers and hope that we get our space with the lottery system.
Also to do today: send off a payment to the printers, ship some auction stuff and mail order, process more orders, post more auctions, get some more stuff up on my Amazon seller page, and go pay the cable bill. Busy times.
After that stuff is all handled, then it's back to work on Furrlough #182 and Milk #62. We're doing well on this issue of Furrlough and seem to have everything in hand on time (which is nothing short of miraculous, with anthologies), but as usual, Milk is in need of submissions.
Other things I got done this week already: met with the accountant for our tax stuff (and paid him his fee, which went up this year, ouch), paid the rent and water bill, did laundry, did a bunch of business paperwork. Exciting times, que no?
Back to work for me...
