Summertime!
General | Posted 7 years agoFinals are over, the sun is (occasionally) shining, and it's dry enough that my paint pallet isn't perma-wet... woohoo! I'm looking forward to doing lots of art this summer, maybe even taking art supplies out on hikes to paint on location.
Also it's been a while since I've updated my list of where-to-find-Elm. It's pretty much the same, except I've started using Instagram. I know, "Only just started instagram," give it another 20 years and I might make a facebook account :P I also have a webcomic in the works! It's not really furry-related, although some of the characters are talking reindeer. I'll post updates and maybe some snippets of art when it's closer to launch.
Hope everyone is doing well and has something nice lined up over summer!

Getting my online house in order
General | Posted 7 years agoSo you know that feeling when you look away for a few seconds and suddenly have like 3,000 messages? Except a few seconds is actually three years and 3000 messages is not at all hyperbole?
Yeah. So I'm taking another crack at this social media thing, gonna try and stay a little more on top of it this time. I'll be updating my page with current information, new(er) art, replying to messages, yadda yadda. It's going to take a while since my screen time is extremely limited at the moment. But in the meantime, if you tried to contact me and I totally ignored you - I'm sorry! I swear I just haven't been online in years! I actually had to jump through hoops to get my account back since apparently they reset all the passwords ages ago. Whew.
Best wishes for everyone on here! It'll be good to catch up with you all again :)

I know what I'm doing today....
General | Posted 11 years ago....fixing my fence! A giant wind storm just blew it down. We've known for a while that it's built kind of shoddily, but I woke up to a crashing sound and saw that the posts just snapped in half. Thank goodness my cats were inside, I hate to think what might've happened to them if they'd been in the yard when the fence came down.
Rebuilding it is out of the question for a few months since the ground is too soggy, but I do need to at least get it all picked up and out of the sidewalk ASAP.
Hope everyone else has a lovely Dec 25th!

Updates and apologies
General | Posted 13 years agoHi everyone!
So first off, an apology to everyone who has been waiting for art from me. I'm in the process of contacting you all to sort that out. I've been out of touch for far too long and that wasn't fair to everyone who had commissions waiting... I'm really sorry about that.
The last seven months or so have been very turbulent for me physically (moving house and health concerns), financially and emotionally. With everything that's been going on I haven't been able to get much done on art... even tiny personal projects. I'm starting to catch up on things now, so hopefully I'll be updating and posting new art soon.
Since I signed up for a dealer's table at FC before life got all crazy, I'll still be going to the con. Hooray! I'll even be doing commissions at the con, but since I still have a backlog of commissions from this summer I will not be accepting any take-home work. I just don't think it'd be fair to take on more projects when I still have some people waiting. Anyone who wants to drop by, my table number is 46 and it's on the far right end of the center row.

Corel Painter - just bought it
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm SOOOO excited.... I've been using photoshop 7 lately, and it's just not doing what I need it to do. The newer version of Photoshop's way too expensive for me, but Painter is much more affordable (especially with a student discount!) and I loved the free trial. So. The box shows up next week. And I'll be getting back into digital art! Woo hoo!
Back from Califur
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, halfway back. I stopped halfway up the coast to hang with my bay area friends before going back up north. Califur was AMAZING. This was my first time there and I spent most of it behind the table, but that worked out just fine... I'm pretty shy, so it's nice to meet people and chat while I have something else to stay busy with.
Me,
and my friend Byrdie all went together. It was amazing. Did I mention that yet? Byrdie hung out with me at the table most of the time which was super sweet of her and really helped out. It was really fun watching all the fursuiters and meeting folks - especially my table-neighbor
When packing, I somehow managed to forget my display rack, prints, sketchbooks, business cards, and basically everything except some paint and a marker. Cue massive panic on friday morning, sitting behind a blank empty table. It worked out okay; I was swamped with commissions the whole time, but I was definitely kicking myself for being so unprepared. Next time I'll definitely pack all the stuff in one box and load it the night before. And checklists.
I'll be closed for commissions until I finish up homework from CF. It'll be a couple weeks at least.

I swear this is a good thing...
General | Posted 13 years agoI am panicking right now. In the best way possible. But still.
Someone from 1st Street Gallery (well-known locally) saw my pieces in the school's senior art exhibition. I'm not a senior, btw, but that's a whole 'nother story. Anyways, they called me and asked if I had a cohesive body of work to put in their summer show. WOW. Me? In a real actual gallery show? That's awesome. That's amazing! That's-
Crap. I don't know what counts as a "body of work." How many pieces? How large? They probably need a theme, but I don't know how obvious/strict/whatever it needs to be. Heck, I don't even know whether she was talking about ceramics or charcoal. Or about how to present things professionally, or what they're looking for, or ANYTHING, because I've never done anything like this. I've never even had my work in a juried show before. Jumping straight from open-entry two-drawings-per-artist type shows to a full-on gallery exhibition is.... um. Terrifying. But also awesome.
I don't want to do something wrong and seem like a stupid amateur. But I don't want to ask too many stupid questions and seem like a stupid amateur. Catch-22 much? Honestly I'm not even sure they'll take my stuff, so there's no point getting worked up about it, but I'm just waaaaaay too neurotic for my own good.

Awesome raffle~
General | Posted 13 years ago
is running a raffle right now with a $100 prize. Definitely worth taking a look at. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3438348/Going to Califur!
General | Posted 13 years agoI'll be at Califur '12 this year. It's pretty exciting - this is my FIRST CON EVER outside my home town. I'm gonna stay in a hotel room and everything! Wheeee! It's like actually being a grown-up or something. Unfortunately, I'll be mostly chained to my table in the dealer's room; I do hope to get out and play at least a little though.
Anyone else going to be there?

Tough choice - school
General | Posted 13 years agoI've decided to switch my major from art to wildlife conservation. For a while there I was hoping to to both, but looking at how long it'd take to complete both degrees.... I just don't have the time or energy. It's a tough decision since I'm passionate about both subjects. What it came down to in the end is that I don't need a degree in art to achieve my goals and continue improving, but without a degree in science I won't be able to have as meaningful an impact or make a living doing conservation work.
I wish I had the time, money, and willpower to do everything. I wish it was acceptable to stay in school 'till I'm thirty. I wish people acknowledged expertise without formal education.
While I'm at it, I wish the world was made of chocolate >.>

Never rains, but it sure pours
General | Posted 13 years agoLiterally. It's been raining, pouring, thundering, and hailing for the last two weeks. With occasional breaks for sunshine.
Sorry I haven't been updating much recently. I've been moving to a new house (yay!), trying not to fail mid-terms (succeeded!), and finishing up commissions and other art projects. We don't have internet at the new place, so I'm gonna be back online in a kind of haphazard, spotty way. Aside from the no-internet thing it's a wonderful house... quiet, peaceful, clean, and my room has HUGE windows and tons of light - it's a great place for doing art in.
I've been experimenting with oil paint recently. It's a lot of fun and I'm working on my first large painting - furry themed, of course! ~_^
Anyone got plans for the summer yet?

March commission openings
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm opening up a few commission slots for march. These are traditional media only, since my computer's on the fritz. Comment here with contact info or email elmenora[at]gmail.com to reserve a spot. ALSO I'm doing a special this month on characters that glow or sparkle. I've got some fancy new paint I'm itching to use, so if your character has iridescent/sparkly/glowing bits you get 20% off any size painting!
Sketches
Full body character sketch in pencil on letter-size cardstock, no background. If requested, I'll do busts or portraits instead - these are the same price but will have more detail. Typically I finish sketches two or three days from receiving references.
$8 for one character || $14 for two characters.
Example 1 | Example 2
Sketch spots: Unlimited
-Talakestreal-
Paintings
Single-character watercolor painting on heavy, acid-free paper. Includes a simple color wash background. I'll send sketches for review, and then a WIP of the line art before beginning to paint. How long it takes depends on size - a very small painting may be only a few days, a full-sized one could take up to a few weeks. Additional characters are +half the price, scenery depends on amount of detail.
ACEO - $10 || small size: 8x5" - $25 || Large size: 9x12" - $45

I'm on Nabyn!
General | Posted 14 years agoSo... I've got an account on Nabyn now! There's not much on it yet, but here's the link: http://elmenora.nabyn.com
I'll be putting up furry AND human art on there, so if you like pictures of homo sapiens you should check it out ;)
Nabyn's a really cool art site that's currently in open beta, so you need an invitation to join. It's focused only on drawing and painting, which is a nice change from other general artsites like DA. Many thanks to
for the invite!
Also I am a horrible person and nuked all the submissions in my message box. There was like a thousand of them. Sorry.

Happy Cheap Chocolate's Eve!
General | Posted 14 years agoI love valentine's day.... or more precisely, the day AFTER valentines day. You know. When all the stores have huge sales on the leftover chocolates. :B
I'm settling into the new semester's routine, so hopefully I'll be able to actually interact with people sometimes, ha! It's pretty busy though. Every week I've got a paper to write, about 100 pages of readings, six math homeworks, and four art projects, plus about 15 hours of day job. Whew. That's not as much as it sounds like.... but it's still a lot!
Anyways, hope you all have a happy sweet love-filled valentine's!

Slow
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm being really slow and unresponsive online right now. There's some stuff going on in my offline life that's a tad stressful, plus school is starting soon, and so on. Being a rather asocial creature at heart, crazy stuff makes me want to hide in a cave and not talk to people much.
So thank you for all your comments, faves, watches, etc. I really do appreciate it and intend to respond to each person individually..... it just might take a while.

2012 resolutions, anybody?
General | Posted 14 years agoHappy second day of 2012! And I've got some resolutions this year too:
-Draw something every day... something not for school or work.
-Write more letters to my pen pals!
-Do one thing I've always wanted to but never have
-Finally produce my crazy webcomic brainchild

Commissions Closed
General | Posted 14 years agoI want to thank everyone who helped with my charity drive - we've raised $110 for the humane society, which is way beyond what I could possibly have expected. I will be visiting them on Monday to officially hand over the donations. You all rock ^.^
Commissions are CLOSED for now. I'll be finishing up the current batch and then doing some traveling/starting school. I may take a few more in Feb, depending on exactly how much ass my school decides to kick.
Again, thank you all! Good luck and happiness for the new year!

Massive pokemon project, plus charity updates!
General | Posted 14 years agoYeah, so I had tons of fun drawing the original eevee evolutions that I'm thinking of doing all 151 original pokemon. And making a massive poster out of them. 'course, it'll take forever. But.... POSTER. And what with winter break and all, I just might get it done in only a couple months. Hahah, wishful thinking.
ALSO an update on the charity commissions:
You guys are awesome, so far we're at almost $60 out of the 275 it takes to sponsor a pair of kittens/puppies! For those of you just tuning in, half of every commission I sell before January 15th goes to Humane Society Silicon Valley, a major low-kill shelter in this area. They do a lot of medical care, fostering, and free feral cat vet clinics too.

General | Posted 14 years agoBastet, my cat, came home tonight with a bloody ear and broken tail. I don't know what happened to her exactly, as an outdoor cat it could have been any number of things. I don't think there's anything else wrong, but it's hard to say.... cats are so good at hiding their pain. She's doing okay for now, so hopefully she won't need to go to the vet.
[UPDATE]
She's not hurt that bad, I was just freaking out. Bastet is under house arrest until her tail is better (she can't balance right now), and she's more upset about that than the injuries! Haha.
