Looking for refsheet artists
Posted a year agoWell hello again! Glad we're all still alive after that hack scare. I Hope everybody was able to remain calm and take care of themselves while the folks on the mod team got everything all sorted.
I'm shooting this out here in the hopes a Watcher will either offer or suggest a good artist to help me out! I'm trying to get some refsheets done for my two main d&d characters, but can't seem to find anybody who does a good semi-realism detailed style of refsheet who also does basic mecha characters. One character is a regular human, but another is basically a robotic humanoid with a big TV/computer for a head. He's otherwise very basic, but I would like to get some detailed fullbodies of them both and want someone who does a good job with stuff like metals and wires and such.
Preferably looking for folks who offer PayPal payments, such as via invoice of Hipolink! If anyone has suggestions, please shoot them my way and I'll check them out and mull it over while I save up these next few weeks ^_^

My OCs and their Idenities
Posted a year agoI was considering making an art piece for this of each of my primary OCs holding their flags, but I think instead, i'll just talk about them here and give some deeper insights into each one.
Elnos Lavenwine is a transmasculine man, and is aromantic with queerplatonic attraction towards Fondue Apo. He uses they/he pronouns.
Fondue Apo is a gay-aligned aromantic cisgender man who shares similar feelings towards Elnos.
Angelito Jaimes is bisexual, with a slight preference towards women. They use he/they pronouns and are an intersex man on the nonbinary/transmasc spectrum.
Theodore Spankiff is a pansexual transfemmine woman.
Morrigan Lavenwine is a cisgender woman and is somewhere on the bi/pansexual spectrum with mostly heteroromantic leanings.
Ghaedmill Mullens is a bisexual butch cisgender woman with sapphic leanings, and is mostly attracted to women.
Asteria Camaraderie is a bi/mspec lesbian.
Jex is a butch mspec lesbian, and uses she/it pronouns.
All of this is mostly meta info and the kind of labels this characters may use for themselves in their modern era incarnations. Truth be told, I don't even intend for this characters to ever say these facts about themselves aloud, or at least not very bluntly, or with this exact language. I think my characters all experience their queerness in a very abstract yet very Intense sense...it's a major aspect of who they all are, but to put it so plainly in such bare language to me, as a writer, would take away from that gentle flow I hope to instill in my characterizations of them.

What are your furry design nitpicks?
Posted a year agoI'm curious before I lay down for the evening. As a creator/enjoyer of anthro artwork, what are deskgb traits and choices that personally turn you away from a piece? Not stuff that you Hate or find gross or anything, but just details you don't ever use yourself or find uninteresting in any way.
For me, some nitpicks I have are:
-Human-like hair. Especially on a reptile or avian character. Why does a lizard need a full head of hair? It always looks so silly to me...like they're wearing a wig thats gonna fall off their noggin!
-Human hands/feet. While I love Beastars for what it is its very guilty of this one......why do they have Human feet, toes and all. Paws and hooves and claws are all so fun and interesting!
What are your little nitpicks about furry character design?

An autistic furry's musings about sometimes confusing ter...
Posted a year agoI want to preface!!! and stress that this is Not a call out nor a discourse angry post! more so It is just me rambling about how, in my time actively exploring the furry fandom and the submissions here, I find myself at times confused by the terminology artists use when referring to characters' bodyshapes and genders. I am a very trans furry guy so ofc this may just be me having a very fluid understanding of how the human(oid) body can be shaped in regards to someones gender. It's simply often enough that I've started to grow a bit lost and confused over it!
Like! YCHs! I love them. I think it's so neat to place a character into a pre-set role/pose in a scene. However, most of the YCHs I find are listed as being form "female" bodies only! and to that! I have to ask what do we mean by female? Do we mean has boobs and a curvy figured? But many will also have herm listed (and I wanna note that herm, as a word, is considered a derogatory term by many in the intersex community, due to its history as a medical term used to dehumanize and abuse people with ""nonstandard"" bodies in medical settings), which often leaves me wondering if a character like Angelito, who is an intersex man with breasts and a generally curvy plump figure, can be used! But often this is not the case, so My confusion grows!
There is also the matter that many of these YCHs will say "any body type" but then add that it's better to stay close to the default placeholder character's figure. And well. often these placeholders are drawn as Generally Skinny in terms of shape. Which is valid ofc! artists can draw whatever they want! this I understand and respect! I am just confused how you can say any body type is okay, but then subtly say you really only wanna draw the character skinny. This may ofc be a language barrier issue but! that just makes navigating and trying to figure out if my characters fit for these types of pieces all the more confuddling!
I don't know! If you are an artist who does YCHs and has ever limited them in these ways, I don't wish to make you feel guilty! This is just me rambling about how sometimes these things are unclear to me, due to a mix of autism and my own gender experience!! Perhaps feel free to provide your side of things in the replies? if you want to !!!

funny musings about writing anthro erotica
Posted a year agoObligatory warning for discussion of nsfw sex-stuff. Nothing graphic, I'm just musing about it, as you can see from the post title.
so. I am finally writing a proper story about Elnos! it's been very wonderful to finally get to explore him in a format I'm more familiar with than visual drawing, and to get a better feel for Estea as a world and him as a character outside of silly shitposts and comics. However, I've discovered something very amusing about myself. See, I struggle to write nsfw explicit sex in my works, because although I try very hard to be sex positive while myself being a very sexually inclined individual, I struggle with writing sex into my stories because...well...sex is very Funny!! I laugh too hard at it to take it seriously, so I can never really linger on any spicy scenes for too long before I get flustered and too embarrassed to go on.
But, as it turns out? Writing sex between anthro animal characters somehow makes it much much easier to get into an erotic scene! I don't now why exactly this is, but a friend of mine on discord suggests that since my take on anthros leans heavily into their animal features, such as tail feathers and scales and vocalizations, that it softens the blow of Sex as a subject and allows me to lean into it easier. The setting of Estea is far enough from our world in terms of social and cultural norms that I can easily envision a scene of Elnos witnessing various lewd acts in public without any issue, but the characters themselves are still fundamentally People like you and I, with very similar fantasies and desires they wish to explore, so it forms a safe little playground in which to imagine.
Also autism, probably.
I just thought that it was very funny!

Hi! I'm new. What do I do
Posted a year agoI am 99.5% sure these journals are ? basically public posts you can find by browsing around? I am very new to FA and have honestly never used a site like this before. I joined because hee hee animal people art, yayyah, however I am struggling to use the site and truly don't know how to do anything other than basic browsing and editing bits of my bio. I've tried to google for some guides, but nothing clear has popped up. I suppose I am asking if anyone here would be willing to provide such a tutorial on how to use the site, like stuff with how the Gallery works, uploading, what "downloading" a piece means, etc etc. right now I'd really like to be able to change my profile picture to my sona!
Please mind that I normally only use Tumblr, so! be patient with me.
thank you!!
