CHEAP COMMISSIONS! Sad Technology Death, Volunteering
Posted 16 years agoWell, I knew it was coming for a long time, but my dear old gigantic clunky PS2 finally kicked the bucket. It still plays DVDs ok, but it won't read memory cards. At all. Ever. No matter how hard I beg. I thought about bringing it in to somewhere that could check it out and maybe fix it, but the time and money involved in that would probably be too much to commit. So, here's the question of the day:
Should I take the fast route and buy myself a slightly used slim PS2, or should I save up for a while and hold out until I can buy a PS3? I don't know anything about whether or not the PS3 is backwards compatible or what kind of specs I should go for (i.e. 60 vs 80 vs FOREVER gigs of memory), so any advice would be appreciated.
Moving on...
I'm volunteering! My school requires at least 40 hours of community service to pass into being a senior, and I've decided to fill the requirement at Bay State Equine Rescue. Go check them out on the web. They're AMAZING and I really love working with the horses, I didn't realize how much I missed just being around them. Horses have saved me from mental breakdowns multiple times.
Anyways, thanks to the crashing US economy a lot of people are having to give up their horses and we're getting a lot of new arrivals lately. We're having trouble coming up with the barn space for all of them. So, here's what I'm doing in addition to helping build stuff:
All regular commission prices are not in effect until further notice!
Instead, I will be taking donations to put toward helping construct the new barn addition at BSER! $4 out of every $5 that are donated will go to the horses. The other $1 will help cover my gas money, since it's a quarter tank of gas every time I drive there and back. So technically that goes to the horses too, since it's helping to get me out there to work :)
Every donation of $1 or more gets a full-color marker or colored pencil commission of a single character!
Every donation of $10 or more gets the single character AND two index card commissions
Every donation of $15 or more gets TWO single characters AND two index cards AND a conbadge!
Every donation of $25 or more gets everything the fifteen-dollar one gets AND a two-character commission AND a character sheet!
EVERYBODY gets the originals sent to them by mail! (there will be an additional $2 fee for international mail)
Payment Details
I will be taking PayPal donations. In the USA, for the 48 contiguous states ONLY, I will take cash. Cash must be mailed in a secure manner (for example, double envelopes, or in an envelope that you can't see the money through even when you hold it up to light).
If you're interested, please NOTE ME ON FA. In the title of your note, use the word "donation." Tell me how much you're donating, whether it's cash or PayPal, and where to send the originals if you want them. I'll send you back my PayPal e-mail or my street address. PayPal donators will get their commissions within three weeks of donation. Cash donators will get their commissions within three weeks of my receiving the money.
Depending on whether I get too many requests backed up, I might have to create a waitlist. If you're waitlisted, it just means you'll have to wait slightly longer for your reward. EVERYBODY who donates WILL get their commissions!
Once again, I ask that everyone please go check out the Bay State Equine Rescue site and read about the horses. We really want to get the barn done before the super-rainy season sets in, and definitely before the summer heat shows up!

SEX
Posted 17 years ago::claws her way desperately out of the pile of books that her room has become::
*GAAAASP PANT PANT*
Where the fuck is my computer I must write my 100 FREAKING PAGES of homework that is due in the next EIGHT DAYS CHRIST ON TOAST WHY.
...Oh man I haven't checked FA in forEVER...
::click::
::three hours and 1,358 submissions later::
1,358 down, 9,860 to go! ...yeah, it's been a while since I checked my watchlist. BUT, while I'm here, I thought I'd let y'all know I'm still breathing. Mostly. And my lungs probably look like the vacuum cleaner bags at the Library of Congress because of all the damn research books cluttering my 10x8 foot regulation-prison-cell-sized dorm room. However respiration has yet to cease and there is therefore, HOPE!
Speaking of the Library of Congress, in a random turn of events at dinner today the conversation turned to locations where it would be awesome to have sex. Guess my #1 :) And the atrophied interweb-art-reflex in me stretched out and poked my brain, and I thought to myself, "Self, this would make a fantastic meme!" To which I replied, "Well go make it then!" But then I took my meds and it was ok.
So now there is a meme, created by yours truly! Here it is:
The "I Get Around!" Meme:
Make a list of locations where you think it would be fantastic to have sex. Anything goes. Places that don't exist anymore, whatevs. Now draw your original characters having sex there! Or other people's characters, if you have their permission :)
No tagging in this one because I think people should do memes because they find them interesting. So, do it if you want to!
Here are some of my picks:
1. The Library of Congress. Seriously. Every book EVER has a Library of Congress classification number, meaning that it's in the Library of Congress. Find the center of the building and you'll literally be surrounded by the collective written knowledge of the world. All that knowledge, in one place. It makes me hot just thinking about it. Oh yes, Mr. Librarian, take off my pants with your teeth! ...er...*ahem* moving on...
2. On top of Shakespeare's grave. Slightly creepy at first mention, but think about it for a second. This guy wrote some of the most passionate love stories and poems ever. There has got to be some serious mojo residing in his current (permanent) location. Also, if you imagine the Joseph Fiennes Shakespeare from "Shakespeare in Love," it suddenly seems a lot less creepy.
3. The Vatican. Sacrilegious? Nah. Just look at all the "knowing" that goes on in the Bible! I mean, some of the people in the Old Testament had 20+ kids! It's old-time religion! Bonus points for getting into the Pope's Chambers to get it on. Infinity bonus points if His Holiness walks in and, instead of freaking out, pulls out a video camera.
4. The Coliseum. A slightly different kind of wrestling from the kind that used to go on there!
5. Stonehenge. Not because of the whole mystical thing, but because apparently it lies at a convergence of magnetic fields which are supposed to "increase the senses to more than normal levels." I'm all for testing that out. Plus it's a lovely setting if you get rid of all the touristy stuff nearby.
6. The Crystal Palace, under the dinosaur skeleton.
7. The Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These two tie for me. I'd totally have sex in some of the beds they have on display at MMA, and as for the MNH I'd have problems picking a location. Under the blue whale? In the Hall of Mammals? In the basement, where they keep the real dinosaur bones? Ah, forget it, all three!
8. On top of the Sphinx. 'Nuff said.
9. In a dirigible. Because steampunk is just about the hottest thing ever, and there would be inevitable extended foreplay because of all the layers and layers and layers of clothes that go into a proper steampunk getup. Getting naked takes longer when it involves laces on EVERYTHING and 2 sets of 30 hook-and-eye closures and petticoats and underwear that's built like our modern clothes. Of course, the vessel would need to have autopilot >D
10. Aboard ship. And I mean a PROPER ship, none of these gas-guzzling manatee killers people dare to call ships these days. Those fuckers deserve engine fires at sea and a quick sinking, the lot of 'em. Those are boats. A PROPER ship is wind-power only. A tall ship, preferably a gaff-rigged schooner because they're just gorgeous. Calm seas, brisk winds, sunlight and a bottle of good red wine = pure bliss.
There were other locations mentioned, these are just my personal favorites. So, let's see what you come up with!

You Wanna Be a Producer?
Posted 17 years agoHEY KIDS. Want your name in the credits of a fan-made Batman movie? My college buddies and I are planning to film a series of 3 movies set in Gotham City a few years after the death of Bruce Wayne. It's a totally original concept (no fake heart attacks here!) and we're really excited about it.
Unfortunately we are also extremely broke.
We need about $3000 for a camera, lighting equipment, a new external hard drive, costumes, set pieces, makeup, etc. Also, since I'm the only one with a car, a bit extra to help out with gas money wouldn't hurt.
So I've decided that anyone who commissions either me or the guy who I'm co-writing this with, whether for a $1 sketch or a $50 color piece, will be credited at the end of the movies as an Associate Producer! You'll also get a bonus badge of your character in Bat-gear, courtesy of yours truly. That's right, a shiny new badge for free!
My commission prices are set, but my friend negotiates based on size, medium, etc. Go check out his DevArt gallery. He only works in black and white, but trust me when I say it's all he needs. Note me if you commission him so I can add you to the list of producers!

Lake Sailing
Posted 17 years agoThe News:
OH MAN THAT WAS AWESOME. Lake sailing is so much crazier than ocean sailing. The winds shift 180 degrees sometimes! And Saturday was the BEST! Rainy, windy, gusts up to 20 kts, the boat heeled WAY over and fighting to keep the main sheet trimmed right...MAN OH MAN I WANNA GO BACK! Stupid life, stupid work, stupid real world. Curse you, responsibility!
Also:
- See "The Hulk." Especially if you loved Iron Man, and ESPECIALLY if you're a fan of Marvel comics.
- See "Wanted." Not as good as the book, since they used almost none of the original concept, but it was still quite fun.
In Other News:
1. Markered Sets are still on sale, and with all slots open it's definitely the time to grab one, since it'll get finished faster!
2. Badges (such as this one) are still buy 2 get 1 free!

Employment
Posted 17 years agoSo after about six days of hardcore begging, I appear to be gainfully employed! I'll know for sure on Wednesday, after my interview. But it looks quite promising :)
HOWEVER, I am still broke. As are we all. Also I am still in debt. So, while it's not as urgent as it was before, I implore you to commission me. I do badges now! Take a look! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1342907/
Since I'm less afraid of the bank shooting me in the street than I was a few months ago, I'm reopening trades and requests. Make me draw things!

HEY KIDS
Posted 17 years agoIt's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIVE.
Yes folks, I woke up and suddenly I was home! Yaaaay home! No thanks to y'all, buncha cheapskates, wouldn't pay fer a cardboard box if their grandmammy up and died *muttermutter*
Seriously, though, it's nice to be back. Of course, it's been raining for like 3 days straight...but whatever, it's really green outside!
So here's the deal: This southern belle still needs mooooolah. I'm still offering my $30 specials[b] http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/369461/, and my [b]regular commission prices http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/369459/ remain at their new, possibly permanent, superlow rate.
BUT (where!? Oh, right...)
I am now offering CONBADGES!
Details to follow soon, but basically, you can get inked lines for $3, colored pencils for $4, and markered for $5. I can do other stuff, like put sparkles on or use watercolor, or whatever. If you have a special request, just ask! But remember, the heavier the badge is, the more it costs me to ship it to you, so more stuff means I might add up to $1 shipping.
Examples forthcoming, as soon as I figure out how to get my dad's printer to recognize my computer :) Ahh, technology.

Single
Posted 18 years agoWell, I guess I was never technically not single, but I'm back to being definitively single. He's still my best friend, though, by virtue of the fact that he's the only person I can hang out with for more than 6 consecutive hours without wanting to stab in the face. And I'm happy that he's happy with his new girl. I'm just worried about them, since she seems to be looking for something a little less serious than he is...but it's none of my business. I'm just here to be a friend to them and be supportive should anything happen :)
In other news, my theater buddies got hold of the fact that I'm single last night at the alumni reunion...that was WILD. I may need to get myself a taser. Theater kids are horny bastards.
In other other news, my bank is still being stupid, so I'll be borrowing cash from my parents to pay you back (you know who you are).
In yet more news, I actually drew some stuff on the way home! (I'm home for the weekend to get a filling re-done). If the trend of my muse showing up on airplanes continues, I might have something FINISHED *GASP* when I get back! Keep your fingers crossed!
<3,
Elsie

CHRISTMAS TO THE FACE FGSFDS
Posted 18 years agoSorry I haven't shown signs of life in a while, I've been beaten repeatedly about the head with, in quick succession:
1. Finals
2. Relationship Drama
3. Air Travel
4. Family Drama
5. Housework/Repair Work
6. More Relationship Drama
7. Decorating for Xmas
8. More Family Drama
9. Xmas Shopping
10. A Christmas Tree (DURING Relationship Drama)
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I took a real, live (well, I guess it was technically dead since it was cut down) Christmas tree to the face last week. Luckily it was sideways, so instead of the pointy end or the trunk I got a buncha branches, and I managed to block most of the impact with my arms, but since it was at face level I'm counting it as a face.
Those of you who know about dearest Thomas (I'm guessing that illustrious group includes...well, just you, Rachel :D) will remember the rather un-me-like episode just before break during which I ran from the dorm into the snow in naught but pajamas and socks in order to confess my feelings to him just before he left for home. How very CW Drama Series of me. Anyway, we've had successive phone conversations since then, the last of which took place while I was putting the lights and such on the tree. Distracted, I didn't realize I'd hooked my headset cord onto a branch, so when I hopped off the chair I was using to put the star on top of the tree, the tree followed me.
Luckily the only things injured were my headset (the cord pulled out of the earpiece) and my pride. I've got some nice scratches on my arms, though.
Anyway, on to the important stuff: PRESENTS, Y'ALL! Since I'm broke as a very, VERY broke thing (insert Windows Vista joke here), I'll be taking the cheap route and giving out FREE ART. That's right, for the holidays you get a FREE (you pay postage, which is, like, $3.00 or something) piece of art from me, and not even just a sketch, but inked lines! If I know you in real life, you get color, but the first 20 people to comment on this get a free lineart piece, as many characters and whatever situations you want! It has to be able to fit on one piece of computer paper, though.
Merry freakin' Christmas, and don't have relationship drama near the tree. It's dangerous. (Don't have it in the kitchen, either. Too many sharp things in easy reach.)
