Ethical Quesion
Posted 12 years agoI'm torn about something and looking for some opioions...
To get it out of the way... TL:DR I adopted some ferrets through Craigslist and they had fleas, should I tell the previous owner?
And now for the further details (because there's more to the story)...
So I got these two ferrets from craigslist, the people didn't really want to part with them but they got them after they got their kittens and since the ferrets came around the one kitten had been tearing himself up so they for some reason assumed that meant that the kitten was allergic to the ferrets and to find them a new home. Good news for me as I was looking for some ferrets (which is a complicated story in itself). So I go to get them, and the one looks a bit older than they said it was because he's petite (which I know happens, this isn't my first circus with ferrets) but he also had very thin hair on his tail, you can see pink easily, which can happen with a couple of the diseases they get later in life. This was still fine with me and didn't make me not want them (obviously since I took them, derp) but when I saw the kitten I was like holy smokes he's really having a reaction! He had a bald patch maybe 3-4 inches long and an inch and a half wide on top of his neck and about half of it was an open sore! These people also had 3 dogs and another cat and all 7 of the furry creatures were running around the house when I got there. The lady got really choked up about seeing them go, and she called me like 10 mins after I left but I was busy getting lost (over the state line and out of my comfort zone) so I didn't answer. I got them home and noticed they were itching a lot, like A LOT. I picked each up and did the hair blow back to see the skin and checked out their bellies, but there wasn't any indication that anything was amiss except the bald tail on the one that was itching the most. Just for peace of mind I stuck him in the tub so I could get him wet down and see his skin better (they're both white, one albino, one d.e.w.) he had some red patches here and there so I got out the oatmeal bath and laterhed him up and promptly sudzed up a flea. So husband went an got the other one and they soaked and rinsed and soaked and rinsed and we'll be sevin dusting them and the house tomorrow (we have 2 cats also, who aren't treated because they're strictly indoor). The problem is, this lady obviously didn't really want to part with these ferrets, but she was blaming them for what was apparently flea allergy dermatitis, not ferret allergy. So do I tell her? Do I offer her the ferrets back in n even exchange and go on looking? Do I not say anything? Obviously her cat needs some treatment, but I really don't want to give the ferrets back :(
What do ya'll think I should do?

These are important things to consider when dealing with me so you might want to take note, or not, but you definitely are about to get the chance to have fair warning...
ABOUT ME:
I am a late 20's, self-centered, cynical, pensive, and often disgruntled artist and general layabout. I am friendly in an impersonal way with folks I don't really know, PLEASE DO NOT MISTAKE THIS FOR FRIENDSHIP. I have spent enough time in the world that where I am concerned, you saying hi to me once online does not make us friends, which means that calling me cutie and sweetie and pet names such like that is just going to rub this furry the wrong way. I am not a huggy or drippily emotional person in real life, please do not mistake the fact that my character is cute for me wanting to play squeezy huggles time with you. I appreciate enthusiasm, but stay in your own bubble. Additionally, crawling up my bum by commenting on everything and constantly asking for freebies cuz you, well, comment on everything IS NOT GOING TO GET YOU FREEBIES. It also does not count as getting to know me and will cause my poor computer to receive more than its fair share of eye-rolling, there is a distinct difference between being friendly and being demanding, and if I tell you something over and over and over and over its gonna get irritating and gonna get you less (less art, less friendliness, less chance I will even want to get to know you). That all being said, I am actually fairly easy going, and am pretty easy to get to know if you bother to take the time, I amfrank, andopen, and I make a point of being informed so you won't get a lot of opinionated drivvel from me that isn't well backed up.
I am primarily a traditional artist who generally works large-scale on actual art paper. I am working on learning to do digital. I am here mostly because I get bored just drawing on my own so I'm looking to do maybe some art trading since I like to see others' take on my character as well as get inspiration for other characters to work on. There are some things I will not do, most notably I will not do reptiles, birds, cetaceans, babyfur, gore, vore or branded characters, otherwise its pretty much case by case. Since I do not have a scanner to accommodate the size art I usually do I take pictures to post, I use a Nikon D3000 SLR on sunny days (not all the pics in my gallery were taken outside, I am not always patient enough to wait on good weather...) For interested parties who are looking to trade I am willing to ship the original art if the receiver pays the shipping through paypal (note me for details).
I am 28. I am married. I have a toddler. I also have a full time 40-50 hour a week job in addition to running a household. I also have friends, and pets, and other hobbies. These things all impact my turnaround time if we are working on a trade or something. I try to be as quick as I can, but if something comes up please try to be understanding. I will not leave you hanging, I will get in touch if I will be a while, and I am always very involved in letting others know what step of their picture I am currently working on. If you need something back super quick or are an impatient person then maybe working with me is not your best option. Like I said, I am normally pretty quick, but life does happen and I deal with enough people who have no perspective on that in my paid job, I don't really want to get it in my hobby as well. I am not trying to be discouraging, just realistic.

Not dead! (life update)
Posted 12 years agoIn case anyone was wondering, I'm ok, just been laying low. No particular reason, not drama or anything, just distracted. Mostly this has been because of work. The busiest time of year for me is from about the second week of November til now-ish and I sort of mentally check out and do mostly nothing in my time off during this period. All my mental resources go to making sure my salon doesn't self destruct (and that I don't self destruct) until we are safely past x-mas. Now that things are calmer I will be getting back to work on some art, initially finishing things that I had started before (the final raffle pics from the summer *oops*, that pic I owe Cael Garvin, and the coloring on the kangaroo pics I'd started).
Husband bought me a new laptop so I've spent the last week getting used to it and loading music and just enjoying not having such a pos computer to play with, but just today loaded up sai and my wacom driver so may be doing some test doodling tonight (besides the quickie icons/tags I wanted to do for furry-paws)
I've an embarrassing amount of time lately reading web comics and playing furry paws (I love dogs, and stupid internet games, so this is amazing to me), I'm gonna try to pull back on that a little.
Also my birthday is tomorrow :3
Um, I guess that's about it that I really have, mostly I just wanted to drop in and let everyone know that I'm really ok, and just been kinda on hiatus due to the fact that the holidays make my customers crazy (like, you ruined my christmas, litigation type crazy)
Hope everyone has had a lovely early winter/yuletide, and is looking forward to the new year as much as I am!
Yours

come play! It's kitschy and just a basic online game, but why wouldn't you want lots of dogs?

what computers do you all use?
Posted 13 years agoSo I'm looking to start saving for a new/used laptop sometime hopefully before the end of next year. I'm ok with used if it means I can get something better. We have a desktop that I like but its in an inconvenient location. We bought a brand new large screen "family" laptop at the start of this year that my husband quickly took over, so I got a hold of a small used one through a friend, and it works for art, but not for writing and its very very small, and rather beat up. It was free, so I really can't complain, but I do need something a bit better.
Since I am not really schooled in what to look for in a computer for myself I'm asking around to see what you all use (laptops only please) and how you like them.
I'm looking for something small enough to stowe in a backpack easily but large enough to have a number pad on the right. Otherwise I don't really have preferences, I only play a limited number of games, but when I do it tends to be for a while so one that is less likely to overheat would be a bonus (if thats possible to get as a feature).
Basically I'm using a Dell inspiron 125 special edition (whatever is special about it I have no idea) and am looking to upgrade.
Any advice would be fantastic!

Wacom Driver Woes... advice?
Posted 13 years agoLooking for other wacom users (specifically I have an intuous 4) to maybe give some insight... I feel like I have to re-download my driver like once a month or so. One day it works fine, the next I'll start up and the contact between the pen and tablet surface is glitchy and lagging and can't be used for more than the most basic pre-sketching and even then it is frustrating, so I have to go to the site and re-up my driver. Why? Why does this happen so often? It is really frustrating and I don't know if it is something that I'm doing or not doing that is causing this or what. Is this normal, does it happen to anyone else?
Normally I just let it go, but right now their site is down also so I can't even go get the driver again and that kinda pushed me over the edge cuz I have something I really want to work on.
Any advice or anything would be super appreciated, I love my tablet, but am almost ready to start seeing other people...

I want to be friends with all the 'roos!
Posted 13 years ago...but I am lazy and don't have it in me to note everyone who gets one. So I've been kinda hitting up random punk-a-roo owners regarding befriending Ricky and its been going pretty well...
I did have this kinda taken aback moment earlier, so far everyone I've contacted has been pretty open and most are even excited about their roos being friends with my roo, and Ricky is getting lots of friends this way. But today I got a response that said simply,
Do not draw my character. I don't like this idea at all. Greetings.
in that order. :( my punk-a-roo high has officially been grounded and it makes me wish more people I was friendly with had their own so I didn't have to contact strangers about these things.
Sigh...

Posted 13 years agoso, may be on less for a little while. My dog is on his way out, and I'm calling for a vet appointment tomorrow, its been a really hard night, and things don't promise to get any better for a while. I'm not looking for sympathy, but if the art is slacking, or depressing or non-existent thats why.
going to bed now, tired of feeling like garbage.

Posted 13 years agoblargh.
I've been feeling rather blah for a while now, a combination of factors contribute to this, most notably working too much and having very little time to spend all by myself (I love my child, but I have a very high need for personal time too which I haven't gotten much of lately), I've been waking up too early and going to bed too late for no real reason. I feel like I can't get anything done, and I feel kinda sluggish and gross all around.
But I'm looking forward to changing that.
I'm starting on the Beyond Diet plan tomorrow, to try to get back to my old shape and self. I'm tired of just remeniscing about the days when I had a figure and am about to embark on a metabolism reset that I'm a little stressed about but also feeling very positive about.
It would be fabulous if husband would get on board as well, but of course thats not going to happen, so I'm gonna wind up all slim and hot, and he's gonna just keep on with the body by alcoholism we both ended up with a few years ago.
At any rate this is me kinda regrouping before going to bed before starting this new craziness tomorrow. I took the second half of this week to kinda treat myself to all the chemically fortified and nasty foods I won't be able to eat anymore (I'm not complaining, just lamenting, its a BIG change to not have soy anymore, half of what I eat has soy in it...).
When I start to see some progress I'll post a scrap pic of a before and during and then eventually an after.
I'm psyched and scared. I know this will work if I stick with it, my one boss is like wasting away on this lifestyle change deal and I can't wait to get to that point, but for now I'm just sort of meditating on the hope that this will work and that I'll start to feel re-energized and motivated in a way that I haven't in quite some time.
stupid life stuff over.
black fox out.

Snake Oil
Posted 13 years agoIt irritates me that people are dumb enough to buy into a campaign that neatly sidesteps details of its own platform over 75% of the times they are asked for them. Its like, "Its a super bonus awesome surprise! You won't know how we really feel unless you vote for us! So vote for us and then we'll tell you! You know you want to right? To find out what you win? C'mon! Do it!" *poke poke* and people are EATING THAT SHIT UP. You know its just gonna be a let down, but your sense of wonder and excitement at the surprise that awaits you keeps that snake oil flying off the shelves.
Spoiler alert in case you were planning on voting for the mystery platform to see whats behind the door with the elephant on it...
Crackdowns on availability of cheap healthcare for women.
Crackdowns on availability of cheap healthcare for low income families.
Tax cuts for the rich
Tax cuts for big business
Leaning on the rape and destruction of our green spaces to support an energy independence plan that will take us two steps back when THE OIL IS ALL USED UP. Its gonna happen people, its a FINITE resource, which means that any energy policy that involves oil usage is going to fail, its only a matter of time.
so disappointed in the race this year. ugh.

the "test" was pretty accurate. Mostly I loved that there is a qualifier called "abrasive" and I'm it, and that is pretty much spot on.
here's the full rundown, for anyone who wants some insight:
Assertive
You behave in a confident and forceful manner, take charge of the situation, raise your hand in class, stand up for what you think is right, and lead others. Among those who have a high score on the "assertive" trait, many have jobs in which they are valued for their organizational skills as well as their talent for supervising others.
You are not interested in fading into the woodwork, leaving everything to fate, taking more time than necessary to accomplish a task, or avoiding confrontation.
Creative
You are good at solving problems, coming up with original ideas, and seeing connections between things, connections that most other people miss. People with a high score on the "creative" trait often are employed in such fields as finance and scientific research, and enjoy avant garde and classical music as well as literary fiction and scholarly non-fiction.
You do not shun abstractions and concepts in favor of the concrete and tangible.
Intellectual
You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You're the living embodiment of the saying "You learn something new every day." In general, those with a high score on the "intellectual" trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.
You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.
Irritable
You have your own problems to deal with, and little patience for those who need help to get through the rough spots. Going out of your way to lend a hand not only takes time away from your own pursuits, it ultimately harms those you're "helping" by insulating them from the harsh realities of life.
You don't need to help others to feel better about yourself. It's not your ambition to be known as a major bleeding heart.
Abrasive
You are accustomed to rubbing people the wrong way; it's simply what happens when you express your opinions. In your opinion, there's nothing wrong with being controversial.
You don't have a "live and let live" attitude when it comes to other people whose opinions clash with yours; you see no reason to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who is just plain wrong.
Organized
You like to think a task through before you embark on it. If it's the slightest bit complicated, you make a list (even if it's only in your mind) and methodically work your way through it. When you have a goal in mind, you're not satisfied until you reach it.
You are not one of those people who ignore the details, and you don't understand how anyone can get anything accomplished without thoughtful planning ahead of time.
Conscientious
You feel it's important to work according to a plan and finish every task, to do things correctly and thoroughly.
You are not the kind of person who abandons a project before finishing it, or slacks off when you've lost interest.
Innovative
You come up with a lot of ideas; if one doesn't work out, there's always another waiting in the wings. You often have interesting solutions to difficult problems. You're practically a one-person brainstorming session.
You are less interested changing the world than in dealing with things as they are. Unlike those who spend all their time trying to solve problems, you prefer to zero in on things that work and stick with them.
Curious
You like to get to the bottom of things. You're not content knowing what someone did; you want to know why they did it.
You don't simply take things as they are and move on; you're not content skimming along on the surface; you don't feel you're wasting time by digging for the meaning of things.
Critical
You have high standards, and aren't shy about it. Some may feel that you are cruel, but "the truth hurts," and you're just the messenger.
You do not hesitate to offer criticism when it is deserved, and you don't necessarily want to hear anyone's excuses for not living up to your standards.
I did not have a single hit in the categories Traditional or Agreeable.

working working
Posted 13 years agoI keep seeing (and sometimes purchasing) original species from people, and it makes me really really want to come up with a species of my own. I have been working on this for a while now, but whenever I get a picture in my head it is nothing like what comes out the end of the pen. It is incredibly frustrating and I don't understand how others manage to just create species out of nowhere.... Finally I decided to kinda piece together attributes, and I think I may be on to something, but it still needs some development... now I'm stuck for fine detailing and a name, and this whole process very well may be the death of me...
so, if I drop off the face of FA, its because I died trying to birth a new species, lol

How does one go about flagging someone for banning?
Posted 13 years agoI'm not a crank and this is NOT inappropriate or unprovoked. I got this comment on my non fursona characters account as a response to a submission: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8751996/ (scroll down, there's TONS of it)
frankly I'm a little nervous about even going to their page, and I've never flagged anyone before. Anyone able to help? Obvously this account needs banning, I just don't know how to get that started.

Zombie Survival Cookbook needs support to get published!
Posted 13 years agoSo
tigerskitten is trying to raise funds to publish an awesome sounding cookbook thats all about food you can cook when you don't have a refrigerator, like in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.
This is going to be a very useful book when that happens.
And you know its gonna. Hell, its already started in africa...
So, for us to be able to buy this valuable reference for eating when beset by zombies she needs some friendly contributions to her publishing fund.
Small amounts, large amounts, any amounts from $1 up. If you go to the publishing site and donate more than $5 you get a bonus from the site itself GO HERE!
and also if you contribute you can go visit her journal about it here and she will make you a chibi magnet as a token of thanks. And her art is awesome, so... Zombie survival and chibi magnet. All around, its a good idea.

How do I...
Posted 13 years ago... Spiffy up my profile information? I don't want it to be all bright and crazy looking, but I have no idea how to add any color at all and condense links into tidy little "here" buttons. Anyone out there who might be able to help I would be very very appreciative, even if its just a point in the right direction.
