An observation regarding furry gamers.
General | Posted 13 years agoThis is just something I've come to notice, but most of the furry gamers I know tend to gravitate more towards the RPG genre than others. I'm curious as to why this is. Do you think it's because furry is more of a "dorky" hobby or do you think it's just because a disproportionate amount of furries to non-furries RP in their spare time on forums and stuff?
This is just something I'm curious about.

My Thoughts on the new Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC
General | Posted 13 years agoI've finally seen all of it, and I can say that I'm pleasantly surprised by it overall. I knew it wouldn't fix all my grievances, but it fixed enough of them and vastly improved the ending. *Obviously spoilers*
Pros:
They finally fixed several plot holes. Joker's strange contribution to the ending, how your party magically ends up on the Normandy, and Hackett knowing that Sheppard and Anderson made it to the Crucible are all explained. Furthermore, the removed the part where the Mass Relays blow up.
Sheppard is now allowed to question the Catalyst on each of the ending choices. Furthermore, he can express cynicism towards each choice, culminating in the forth, "Reject" ending choice which damns the current cycle but guarantees success to the next one.
EMS required to get all the endings is lowered to 3100, meaning that MP is no longer required.[/li]
The extra epilogues, the monologues for each one, and new investigative options differentiate the endings enough so that each one feels unique. Furthermore, the epilogue's slideshow changes to reflect the consequences of your actions. No two players should get exactly the same ending.
Cons:
The ending still comes out of nowhere with no adequate build up to the choices you have to make. It's still very abrupt when it happens.
While they try to explain the Catalyst's motive for the Reaper harvest, it ultimately proves futile. He still comes across as grossly misinformed.
It still has the feel of being "space magic", even with the Crucible and the Citadel being explained a lot better.[/li]
The scene with the Illusive Man still doesn't really feel all that relevant in the grand scheme of things. The confrontation with him still feels like an ass pull, even if the concept is one I agree with.
Overall, I'm satisfied. It's not perfect, but it's free and really does help the ending in the best way it could have. Props to Bioware for actually listening to fan feedback and reaching an adequate compromise that would make most people happy.

This is why we can't have nice things!
General | Posted 13 years agoThis has been making the rounds lately, but I feel the need to spread the word myself. A couple of nice people in the fandom convinced the local area to help with a fundraiser in order to get donations for the fire dept and now they may lose their jobs because a couple of assholes couldn't keep their prick in their pants in front of children. Needless to say, I and many others are disappointed such a good thing can be ruined by 2 idiots. A couple of people are starting a donation drive as an apology from the fandom. My E3 opinions
General | Posted 13 years agoMicrosoft: They overdid Kinect again! I think they've forgotten who actually spends time watching E3. It isn't the people who are interested in your Kinect gimmick, it's the people who want more games. Also, I hate Microsoft for already paying for earlier access to DLC for Tomb Raider and other games. I hate when they do that.
EA: I counted 3 social games from EA. Ugh. The whole thing was a resounding meh. Couldn't care less.
Ubisoft: We finally got some good stuff. I love what they are doing with Assassin's Creed 3. Also, the Wii U application for Rayman looks interesting. That and ZombiU shows a surprising amount of creativity from a big company. Lastly, I love that new IP, WatchDog, they showed at the very end. It's such an interesting concept and has the potential to be the next Assassin's Creed.
Sony: They did well. Looking forward to All-Stars and The Last of Us. The storybook thing took way too long, but they did well overall. The games once again stole the show.
Nintendo: Mixed opinions on Nintendo. I love how they try to innovate and improve upon gameplay. It shows a degree of creativity that is refreshing On the other hand, they haven't rally done anything new with there IPs in quite some time. All the stuff they show seems like glorified tech demos. Lastly, they should've done more with the 3DS and the Wii U. Moving that stuff to other events is a grave mistake. I'm concerned about the price point for the Wii U. That tablet looks expensive and Nintendo doesn't sell their tech at a loss. With Microsoft's new Smartglass, they might have shot themselves in the foot. They needed to shine and failed horribly.
Overall, I'm a disappointed. They all played it safe. I'm looking forward to many of the games announced (Dishonored, Hitman, Sly, Bioshock: Infinite, Playstation All-Stars, Tomb Raider, WatchDogs, The Last of Us, etc.), but that's despite the conferences, not because of them.

General | Posted 13 years agohttp://www.humblebundle.com/
I'm sure most of the PC Gamers here already have the games on this bundle, but it's still worth a good plug. It includes:
Amnesia: The Dark Decent
Limbo
Swords & Sorcery
Psyconauts
And Bastion with a high enough contribution.
It's for charity and you get to name your own price and determine where your money goes (to charity, the developers, or the people running the thing).

Pimping again!
General | Posted 13 years agoAs I recall, my buddy
Spazzoid is still doing commissions. He's a very good, very nice, and affordable artist. Check out his stuff.
Furthermore, I've recently had the pleasure of getting a story commission from
gladiatorw07f. I can personally attest to his professionalism and good character. His prices aren't bad either. Check him out if you need a story written.
Lastly, for the gaming crowd, there is always my blog at pressstarttodiscuss.blogspot.com . I write articles every week detailing my opinions on video games. Also, Alan Wake is available for $15 (half off) at gog.com for the next few days. GoG sells games DRM-free, so it's definitely worth a look if you've been interested in Alan Wake.

A Weird Thing I Noticed
General | Posted 13 years agoIs anyone else on who watches me slightly bothered when they hear the word "mate" when someone is describing their significant other. I don't know why, but it just sounds weird to me. I'm perfectly fine with boyfriend/girlfriend and husband/wife, but "mate" sounds a little too animalistic, even for furries.
I dunno.
I dunno.

Spazzoid is doing commissions now. His prices are very reasonable and he's very good. Check it out at this link:

Secondly,
Zero-Shift is doing a series of game reviews on new IPs. He's pretty informative and has good commentary on video games. Check out his gallery to see what I mean.
Lastly, there's still my pet-project, pressstarttodiscuss.blogspot.com . I have my own opinions on video games and hope to begin good, informative discussions on them.

An Open Letter to a Love Lost.
General | Posted 13 years agoThere was a time when I thought I could never be rid of you. There was a time where I thought my affection for you would be undying. There was a time where I cared for you and you cared for me back. But now I know, all of it was for naught.
Why, Mass Effect 3? Why would you betray me so!? I thought my choices mattered to you! I thought that the friendships, the allegiances, the bonds I formed would make a difference! But instead: Betrayal! None of them mattered to you at all, did they! Nothing I did would have changed anything! It would have been fine if you wrapped up all nicely, but nooooooooooooo! Instead, you had to be destroy all my love in the last 5 minutes with space magic, nonsense explanations, and layers of plot holes!
Well I won't take it lying down. You're done to me Mass Effect. I've stood with you for years, and you threw it in my face. I won't forget this betrayal. I hope you're satisfied.
Sincerely,
-Enigma
