Kellashee adopts?
Posted 11 years agoI'll admit the whole adoptable thing confused me for a while, so I've done some research into it after someone brought up the idea with me and I'm vaguely considering doing up a few kellashee designs in this manner. Would anyone be interested? I mean, they're an open species so anyone is welcome to come up with their own character designs but I thought if there's some folks out there that would rather just adopt characters, I could possibly cater to that.
And the winner is...
Posted 11 years agoFirstly thankyou everyone who entered my little give-away! It's been a lot of fun reading the comments and seeing all the different critters people suggested. The randomly drawn winner is...
whoosh-! Congrats Whoosh :) I'll drop you a note so we can talk details.

Posted 11 years agoTo celebrate hitting the 500 watcher milestone I'm giving folks the chance to win one of my little ACEO sized graphite sketches of animal of their own choice. I'm going to pick the winner tomorrow from a random draw so if you're interested, today is the last day to get in on it :) For more information head over to this journal.
Almost 500? Neat, who wants a freebie? *CLOSED*
Posted 11 years ago***This give-away has been drawn and is now closed***
I want to thank you all for enjoying my work so much that you decided to watch me and come along for the ride. Your enthusiasm and support means so much to me and keeps me going through even the bleakest of art blocks.
Because my muse is totally hung up on these little ACEO sized (2.5" x 3.5") graphite animal sketches at the moment, when I hit 500 watchers I've decided I'll pick someone to win one - all you need to do is 1. Be a watcher and 2. Respond here with the animal species you'd most love a little sketch of. Now keep in mind, this is a traditional media prize and I will need your postal address in order to send it. BUT if you're not comfortable with that and would be happy with just the digital scan of it, this is fine too.
PS. If you signal boost this, throw in a link to where you've done so in your comment and I'll toss your name into the hat draw again for twice the chance to win!
Edit: I'm going to let this run for a few days before choosing the winner so don't panic, you have time to enter!

Interested in the Kellashee species?
Posted 11 years agoI've created an FA page as a repository of art/suit photos/etc for the Kellashee. It is an open species, so anyone is welcome to create their own characters and submit original content to me for inclusion.
kellashee
There's not a whole lot there as yet but that will change as I have a ton of stuff to upload that I've been saving since I released them several years ago, and more keeps appearing, so I'll be busy for a while ;)
Since more and more folks have been expressing interest in the species, I'm also going to be developing their world/background/canon and keeping this page updated with it. If enough interest happens I may turn the world-building into an actual artbook type thing down the track.

For those who share art online
Posted 11 years ago
naira brought this to my attention and it beautifully sums up why you should always credit an artist of any artwork you share online. Many artists rely on their name staying attached to their work to help provide an income so that they can put food on their table; it's not an ego-trip thing, I promise. Sadly I have a feeling this message will fall on deaf ears when it comes to the people who most need to read it - the ones who react in self-righteous anger when asked politely to provide correct credit and go on doing as they please.http://christopherburdett.blogspot......-name.html?m=1
The coolest things happen to me sometimes
Posted 11 years agoAnd I have
draphilius to thank for them in this case! With AC happening this past weekend,
foxamoore released his much anticipated and epic album Come Find Me, recorded with a live orchestra at Abbey Road. He ran a crowd-funding campaign for this which included a couple of slots for commissioned music to appear on it. draphilius snagged one of those and dedicated it to my faerie dragon/feline Kellashee species which is a huge honour, thanks dude! Check out the album here: http://foxamoore.bandcamp.com/album/come-find-me
In addition, and completely without my knowledge until friends who went to AC told me about it yesterday, I've been included in a massive and amazing artwork by the talented
sixthleafclover which was on display at AC and won the Chairman's Choice Award in the art show. It's just stunning and she has all my congrats.

Krita Kickstarter - Help Fund More Awesome!
Posted 11 years agoThe Krita folks are running a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund some pretty awesome development goals. As an avid user of Krita I wholeheartedly urge you to go and check it out - http://krita.org/kickstarter.php
For those not aware, Krita is an open source art program that completely kicks ass. People have said it's comparable to SAI, though I haven't used that software to make the comparison. I've essentially waved goodbye to Photoshop after using it for 17 years though, that's how much I love this program.
Go throw money at them! Go! *makes shooing motions with paws*

Scraps n doodles
Posted 11 years agoI've decided to start uploading my less finished sketches and doodles into my scraps. I do these just to chill out and take a break from the more involved pieces, or on days where I can't concentrate on the decent stuff but would feel too terrible doing nothing. I often do little gift sketches of random folks I know X3
Commission Info Update and WINNAR
Posted 11 years agoAfter thinking it over for a week I've decided I'm just going to offer the illustrative realism and not the line art stuff on a commission basis. All the interest I've had has been in the realism stuff and it's where I feel truly at home art-wise. I'll update my price sheet shortly to reflect my decision :)
And now to the bit you've all been waiting for: picking the winner from my last journal entry. Random number generator saaaaays... congratulations Ivy! And because I'm giving the line art stuff the flick, I'm upgrading you to an illustrative realism bust portrait :D Get thy refs to me hence!

Commissions Soon + Chance at a Freebie
Posted 11 years agoAlright folks - I feel comfortable enough with Krita and my art direction now that I will soon be opening digital art commissions. I just need to work out my pricing structure and then it will be action stations! I will be available for character commissions, badge designs, general illustrations, anthro, fantasy, pet portraits - basically a bunch of stuff. **Edit: Commissions now open!**
To celebrate, I'm going to pick one of my active watchers to receive a free flat shaded colour bust portrait. If the winner wishes, I can add their name to the portrait to make it suitable for a con badge.
Example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12583889/
SO all you need to do to be in with a chance is be a watcher of my FA account and COMMENT HERE so I know you're an active account. I'll pick a winner at random within the week :)

Prints available, and a commission question for you all
Posted 11 years agoI've begun making some of my art available as prints via DeviantArt, so if you are interested in hanging my fuzzy (or scaly) critters on your wall, head on over here: http://toastweasel.deviantart.com/
I'm also interested in hearing from people what sort of commission options you would be interested in having available. Also, would you be interested in having your fursonas translated into the cute little feral critters I've started painting recently? I'm not quite ready to offer commissions full-time yet but I'm starting to think about the direction I want to take things, and I would love some input from you all!

Kellashee Musings
Posted 12 years agoI recently did some brainstorming with a friend of mine
cybertouch over the details of the Kellashee - here's an abridged version.
The ethereal Kellashee inhabit a small world called Viridia. This world has an interior sun and they live on the inner surface in a thickly forested and hilly environment of giant trees. Anomalies with the world's gravity cause strange phenomena - one of which are the 'sky rivers' which otherworldy aquatic creatures traverse. Other environments in this world include lakes and rivers on the inner surface (as distinct from the sky rivers), rocky mountainous terrain and treeless plateaus. The massive trees conceal most of the landscape.
Their culture is tribal and has similarities to what we know as the Celts by way of some customs and a runic written language. Their world has several dozen tribes of Kellashee inhabiting the vast lush forest. The language remains similar between tribes but with local dialects. Tribes tend to specialise in different activities and talents and there is little to no conflict between these tribes - they trade and intermarry frequently. They are warrior-like without being warmongers - they protect what is theirs fiercely but have no notion of conquest.
Kellashee are arboreal - they can fly and prefer to live high up in the trees to avoid the dangers lurking below. They create large communal spaces within the trunks of the giant trees and build shelters and work spaces on the outer limbs. They have developed technology sufficiently to create and use mechanisms for raising and lowering the young, old and invalid, as well as heavy loads, from the surface to the treetops. They also utilise funiculars for movement of heavy loads along the hilly ground level and between trees.
As they are omnivores, their diet consists mainly of what they can hunt and forage from the forest. They have very little in the way of agriculture as the environment is not conducive to such - some nurturing of naturally seeded fruit groves and the breeding of small creatures for meat are the extent of their agrarian development. Some Kellashee like to tend small gardens up in the treetops where the light can reach, and cultivate rare and delicate plants and flowers for aesthetic and medicinal purposes.
Kellashee can see exceptionally well in the dark as their eyes share a similar structure to that of felines. Also like felines, long whiskers and an innate sense of balance gives them a sense of their place at all times, lending them grace and agility. In addition to these physical traits, Kellashee have developed the ability to weave illusions from the forest around them to confuse and evade would-be enemies.

Weeee it's finally done!
Posted 14 years agoAfter a good half a year obsessing over my avatar in Second Life, it's now at the level that I and the Luskwood crew are happy for it to be released to the public. This av started as my own personal modding project as there was no avatar in the entire grid that came close to how I saw myself as looking. After a while I started getting lots of positive comments about it and people asking where they could get one. I decided then to polish it up, make it 100% Luskwood parts and make it as unique as possible. This avatar has ended up deviating from what I considered my fursona to be (fae dragon x tiger) in that there isn't much more than a hint of dragon in it and it's ended up more of a fae kitty.
This av has been a journey of beating Blender into submission and figuring out the mysterious and rather un-builder-friendly SL sculpt. With the help of several friends and a hell of a lot of trawling online for info I dived headfirst into figuring out the magic behind sculpted blink, optimising for Level of Detail issues, presentation issues and the completely non-straight-forward process in texturing. The rest of the Lusk crew have scripted it beautifully and made it a wonderful, updated HUD (the on-screen control panel).
I have Liam Roark (co-founder of Luskwood) to thank for the inventive name. I'm completely and utterly hopeless at naming stuff and he came to rescue with 'Kellashee'. Basically the name is a hybridisation of 'Kellas Cat' and 'Sidhe'.
This av is being released at Luskwood on June 11 at 7pm PDT
