Asylum Seekers
Posted 14 years agoHave you ever felt like you just want to cry out, 'I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!'? Like the whole world has turned you mad, frothing at the mouth and you want to run in frantic circles laughing hysterically?
Well then, have we got a movie for you!! With the always wonderful company of
slickscale, we perused our local alternative and cult movie rental shop, The Lobby. We managed to come out alive, and with many odd movies in hand, one of them called 'Asylum Seekers'.
If you could somehow take a cartoon and make it a live action feature about several loonies who have to compete for the single spot in the world's best insane asylum, and have to go through a series of feats and contests in order to get in...well, you would have a fucking great movie. The directing is like NOTHING else I've ever seen, and the dinner party at the very beginning will leave you first speechless, and then in hysterical laughing fits.

My apologies for seeming as though I lack an interest in this site and you, the beloved fuzzies that inhabit it! In all seriousness, each and every one of you means something dear to me. Without your collective help, there would be no haven such as this for people like you and I -- the Lovers of Anthropomorphic Art.
The truth is, the lack of communication and artwork is from a combination of a personal shyness about the quality of my artwork, and from an inability to keep my mouth and my brain moving at the same pace. I have many things to say, but am not always able to translate to words.
I have been many things throughout the years, many things that I remember only scraps of. The growing that I have done has put me in a place where I can look back at the person I was with an entirely fresh perspective. I am not proud of some of the things that I have done, and disappointed at some of the things that I could've accomplished and didn't...but the change is so profoundly different, that I cannot ever imagine being that person again.
It is similar to recalling a memory of something, but instead seeing a silhouette interacting with the things that you had and speaking with the people that you had; you have separated from that. So much so that you can no longer accurately see yourself in the memory because it is so profoundly 'Un-You'.
For those whom I have led to suffering, and those whom I have caused suffering, I am sorry. All the atoms and cells and sentience in my being is sorry for being the one to make you hurt. Whether I didn't return money on time, didn't finish a commission, broke your heart, lied to you...anything you can possibly remember me doing that may have caused harm. For all of it, I am sorry. But I do not regret it. Because regretting anything in life is regretting what made you the person you are today. And You are WONDERFUL. Every part of you is BEAUTIFUL.
Perhaps art will be posted soon. Over time I will complete the tasks I need. And this Artful Hermit will eventually make some small, quiet but insistent statement of existence.
Cheers, all.

2.8 Tons
Posted 14 years ago2.8 Tons
In a fair world this number represents your own annual C02 emission limit – a limit necessary to maintain a hospitable climate on this planet. Right now developed nations are a long way off the mark. The average North American is responsible for about 20 tons of C02 emissions per year – seven times the per person limit.
The idea that we should share global carbon emissions is called the “per capita principle.” At its heart is the notion that every person living on the planet equally shares the right to emit greenhouse gases. If all seven billion of us share equal carbon emission rights, then climatologists estimate that 2.8 tons of C02 is the limit that each person can emit if we are to have a good chance at keeping the planet’s mean annual temperature from increasing by more than two degrees Celsius (which in 2009 many G8 leaders, Obama included, agreed we must do).
What will be the result if we fail to achieve this goal over the next nine years? Extinction, probably. According to leading climatologist Hans Joachim Schellnhuber of Germany, if we fail to reduce our per person carbon emissions to 2.8 tons by 2020, the human species stands little chance of survival.
Share this with friends and strangers alike, let’s go viral with this idea.
Sorry sorry!

I've got so many old sketches that I found while unpacking boxes yesterday, holy beeeeaaans...once I get everything set up (end of April at the latest I would think), I should scan all of them. Or you know...find my laptop cable. That would probably help, and then things'd be scanned sooner.

I am already tired of the copypasta pony art slathered hither and thither upon FA. Yes, I'm sure FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC etc etc, but please, draw something original. I don't like seeing the same 10 ponies or whatever showing up in my submissions box. At least draw them in a different style, FFS.

The most influential and important words I have ever read.
Posted 14 years agoKappy is, quite possibly, one of the BIGGEST positive influences in my life to date, and for those who know me, I do not say things like this lightly.
It is very rare that I have been privileged enough to come across friends such as her, especially ones that will be willing to put up with my ups, my downs, my tendency to hermit, and my tendency to overly fret about the little things.
She is patient, caring, loving, sweet, kindhearted, remarkable, funny and fun to be around. She has taught me things that very few people touch on, and has helped me through some of the worst growing pains in my life. She has introduced me to some of the best music. She has helped me to learn to laugh at myself. She has helped me find my inner child and helped me to learn that it's okay to be scared sometimes.
Kappy, the most beautiful, wonderful woman I have been blessed with knowing; just writing this is making me tear up.
Kappy, if you're reading this...don't ever forget how much you mean to me. When I can't express something like this accurately, it's only because I can't sort through my emotions enough to get past the mushmouth!
1: Under no circumstance should you feel shame for who and what you are.
If you are bringing positive influences into your life by your own choices, under no circumstance should you feel shame for your interests. Your personality as a whole is compiled of traits and tips from those you admire.. Why should you be ashamed of any of it? If there are traits you are honestly ashamed of in yourself, do some serious reconsideration as to where they originate from, and why you are keeping them. Your life and self are in your hands, don't ever sacrifice that control.
2: Never rely on someone else to love you, in lieu of loving yourself.
This is a piece of age old advice that most people overlook so quickly... You cannot fully love anyone without learning to love yourself, first. Do not rely on anyone else to feel good about who you are, or to justify that you are loved or can be loved. You deserve everything you bring into your life... Cherish it only as you cherish yourself.
3: Look at yourself, and love yourself.
You have been given the greatest gift of all, a vessel in which you can experience life through, physically. You would not be able to do this if it wasn't for the parts of you that you may even despise. Look at yourself in the mirror, and thank the parts of you that help you get by. "If I didn't have these legs, no matter what size or shape they are, I wouldn't be able to walk". That alone is a gift most have taken from them or are never blessed with.. Do not take any of yourself for granted.
4: Concern yourself less of your appearance, and more of how you come off energetically.
Your appearance only plays into a very small portion of how people interpret you. Your demeanor plays a much stronger role in how those around you feel around you. So what do you do that shows people Who You Are? What can you change to better help demonstrate how you truly feel?
5: Be true to yourself, no matter how much you don't want to hear it.
Sometimes what we need to hear the most are things we refuse to listen to.. especially when it comes to ourselves. Don't suppress thoughts or decisions that may make you uncomfortable, as the fact that they cause discomfort in the first place indicates something needs to be addressed. Lying to yourself will benefit nobody.. especially Your Self. Listen to yourself, offer as equal opportunity for consideration of anything as you would your best friend.
6: If it doesn't make you feel good about yourself, you might want to reconsider.
If you are actively involved in an aspect of your life that consistently upsets, disrupts, or separates things you love and care for (yourself included), offer some serious reconsideration as to why you are doing this in the first place. If you feel it is beneficial to you either now or in the long run, consider how you can address the issues that are bringing you negativity. It is all in your control.
7: Enjoy the simple pleasures.
One will never be able to fully enjoy the amazing things in life, without first seeking amazing qualities the most mundane of places. Everything on this earth has a piece of magic to give you to, what are you passing up? Who is to say a nice long walk through a forest dense with dew isn't as fulfilling or rejuvenating as going to spa for a day? Everything is what you make of it.
8: Share, Help, and Love Others.
If you've reached a point in your life where you can support yourself enough to support others, share your joy! Share your love! The absolute best things in life are shared with those you love, do it now! Tell someone how you feel about them.... Share something you love with someone you barely know... Help someone do something that takes either a moment of your time, or a day of your life! Helping others selflessly brings joy and goodness into the lives of everyone involved. Don't keep it to yourself, unless you truly feel you need to!
9: Do what you love, when you want to do it!
We live in a world that calls for dedication to tasks that exceed our true desire. If you feel as if you're sacrificing something you love for something you don't, take a look at your schedule and try to arrange some more "you" time. This may call for choices to stop doing idle tasks that kill time (refreshing your internet pages, channel flipping, or even masturbating if it's become a routine) in order to make more time for things that stimulate and fulfill you. If you play when you want to play, you will discover the desire to work as well. Keep a healthy balance between work, errands, your casual time, (tv, computer, crafts, etc) and your You Time (time to consider/ponder questions like these.. Or to meditate, pray, or anything you find beneficial). If this calls for an alteration to your sleep schedule, consider waking up earlier every day. 10 or 15 minutes difference each day can turn into hours of time you slept through before. Suddenly now you have that much more time to get chores out of the way, or do a little playing if you feel like it instead of chores. Do what your heart tells you.
10: Don't let anyone tell you how to live your life!
This life is here for you, and you only. Take advice only as advice, not demand. Consider all possibilities (even those you don't want to consider), and take control of your life. If you don't agree with something, give it thought, and let it go. If it comes back, consider it once again with a new perspective (as it wouldn't come back if it wasn't to be considered again), and allow it to offer you valuable insight. If nothing can be gained from it, once again, let it go. Don't hold on to anything that isn't helping you.
... and above all, Follow Your Heart.

Project: Soul Revolution
Posted 14 years agoI've got two gigantic sketchbooks, one of bristol, one of drawing paper, and I will have both of them filled by the end of next week. This is my goal; to sketch anything and everything, regardless of the finished product. Ceasing worrying and beginning to shape, sketch, scratch and scrawl my dreams onto whatever surface comes into my paws first.
What does this mean? It means the things you find posted here will be a lot more scattered, strange, weird, colourful and spiritual than usual. No longer will I stick to just a single style, I will make my visions and my plea to humanity known.
This is the Revolution of the Soul, and it is time to tune in, turn on and evolve. Let's begin at the beginning, where all things started: imagination and compassion.

I have a half-arsed plan for you, skunky! It will involve records (all sorts of wonderful music -- you are going to listen to at least ONE Moody Blues album with me!), possibly Christmas cake (Ukrainian I think) and just generally love and changes for the better.

Posted 15 years agoOver the next few days or so, I will be removing all of the adult artwork that is posted in my gallery. I will certainly continue drawing my characters nude, because there isn't a thing that's incriminating about nudity (except to some, I suppose).
The nub and gist of why I am doing this is because there may be a job opportunity for me in the New Year, if I can buckle down and get to it. With such a thing suddenly dropped into my lap, I would prefer that my name not be associated with adult furry artwork.
Don't think I won't still whack off to you guys. Don't worry.

Posted 15 years agoTook a yoga class for the first time on the same day, and definitely am feeling much better for it. I have come to a place where I need, NEED to realign my energies properly. I've spent too much time in my life around people who do nothing more than drain my stores, and it has left me tired and not much of a social creature. To be fair, I've always been a bit of a hermit, but it is time to reclaim Me.

Enjoy some FANTASTIC, Edmonton-based reggae music! Souljah Fyah -- absolutely some of the best music I've heard in a long time. Just saw them the other night, and even got a free copy of their new CD, I Wish. It's definitely been a good year for concerts and shows; The Flaming Lips, Bassnectar, Eddie Izzard, Souljah Fyah...and all the fantastic shows put on by the Edmonton Opera!
Already planning for the Vancouver trip with the beautiful pair,
kappy and
glitterpills! We've got plans for having one helluva goodie bag to bring along; simply cannot wait to explore time, space, and collective consciousness with two of my most favourite people in the entire Universe. :)

Posted 15 years agoCurrently listening to Josh Groban's new CD, Illuminations and I must say: this music is soul warming, heart caressing, tear inducing beauty at its best. The man has a voice like no other, and to realize he had a new CD out literally two days after listening to him for the first time in almost seven years...well, I cried. I wholeheartedly and unashamedly cried. Every time I've listened to Mr. Groban, it has preceded a great change in my life, and now, in the first day of the month of caroling and snow, something in my heart has changed. The Robin, she sings again.
Quickly quickly, as I must finish painting my roommate's birthday gift, I would like to inquire and inform.
Inquiring about Louis Wain prints; I am redecorating my room and would love to have a few for my walls. And ideas for where to get some would certainly be appreciated!
And finally, last but most certainly not least, the beautiful fuzzy pair
kappy and
glitterpills will be joining forces with myself and going on a week long roadtrip to Vancouver come mid-April. It is most certainly going to be glorious!

Oooh, fashion!
We are the goon squad and we're coming to town
Beep-beep
Beep-beep
Listen to me - don't listen to me
Talk to me - don't talk to me
Dance with me - don't dance with me, no
Beep-beep
There's a brand new talk, but it's not very clear
Oh bop
That people from good homes are talking this year
Oh bop, fashion
It's loud and tasteless and I've heard it before
Oh bop
You shout it while you're dancing on the ole dance
floor
Oh bop, fashion
Fashion! Turn to the left
Fashion! Right
Fashion!
We are the goon squad and we're coming to town
Beep-beep
Beep-beep
Listen to me - don't listen to me
Talk to me - don't talk to me
Dance with me - don't dance with me, no
Beep-beep

Ah, Bliss! Comes and makes the sun shine a little brighter!
Posted 15 years agoWhat better way to possibly start a morning than with waking up to a beautiful smile and a warm hug? Chase that with a brisk jog in [my] first snow of the season at 9:00AM, another warm hug and an adventure to a small local bistro, and I daresay you've got yourself a good start.
Follow all of that with mint shisha, coconut tea and a peculiar yet wonderful, simply spectacular book called What It Is, by Lynda Barry [http://www.amazon.com/What-Lynda-Ba.....er_1897299354]; discussing the nature of the formless thing that gives things form. If you enjoy collage-style works of art, this book is for you. It's one of those books that makes you think you're only looking at pictures, but quietly tells you a story without you even realizing you heard one.
I'll be haunting this bistro, far, far more often.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to vanish once more into the ether of internet idling, and investigate some moss. Cheerio.

Halloweenies.
Posted 15 years agoThis particular raccoon is not going to be online much in the next few weeks; those of you who know me and need to reach me can reach my phone or dropping by my workplace. :)
The next few weeks are going to be spent collecting and putting together costume items (mmmm, it's a surprise...but my roommate is going as Jareth, the Goblin King!), and putting together my art portfolio so that I can have it ready to show my hopefully soon-to-be new workplace along with my resume.
Wish me luck, folks!

Love life, love yourself, love one another.
Posted 15 years agoPainting a zombie portrait for my favourite creepy customer - wonderful fellow; we swap B-movie suggestions on a regular basis - while listening to such things as Florence and the Machine, Metric, Mika, Leonard Cohen and Mumford and Sons (can you tell I'm shamelessly plugging wonderful music?), has truly made for a wonderful morning.
I've also been commissioned by a small theatre arts and entertainment group in St. Albert, Alberta to draw a 'Dramasaurus' for their promotional t-shirts. Oh happy joyous day!
And last but not least, my favourite, favourite, FAVOURITE art store that I spend all my paycheques at just happens to be looking for staff in the next few weeks! FFFFFFFF. Oh my god I can finally drop this job that's been causing so much stress in my life!
It's like a jigsaw falling into place; finding the friends that will stand at my side when I need them, finding the dream job I've always wanted, and finally getting my muse back.
In an hour or so, I'm going to grab a bag of green and head out into the crisp fall air to take a heavenly walk to a friend's place.

One foot in front of the other.
Posted 15 years agoWalking home today, I realized something about myself. I prefer walking. Putting one foot in front of the other, and letting the pair of them carry me wherever fate decides.
The weather has no bearing on anything except for how many layers I dress myself in (alas and alack! for I have no fur coat to keep me warm through the chilled winds and weather), and I don't mind getting leaves or snowflakes tangled in my hair once in awhile.
Experience...it's all the experience. We trap ourselves inside rolling metal beasts and great chipboard and vinyl-sided structures, and insist upon keeping nature out, out, out. Getting dirty is of great horror to many, and the thought of walking anywhere, no matter how short the distance, brings out whining and moaning.
When the weather permits, I LOVE to ride my bike. Zipping down hills, and panting and straining up them to get to the top and see the city all around me. But walking allows me the luxury to look around myself and take in the wonders that no one takes the time to notice.
Sometimes this concrete jungle has beauty in it, but we are slowly letting it slip away. And why? Because we are losing our ability to care. No, not even care...believe. We don't believe in the trees, in the birds, in the quiet of the whispering leaves. But they believe in us.
So I speak for the trees, and the birds and the bees; for you and for me. Let the leaves hitch a ride in your hair, on your jacket, in your pocket, and know that what we've left of this great Earth still loves us and still cares enough to nudge us once in while. Could it really be coincidence when you stop for a moment on a well traveled trail to admire the trees moving gently in the breeze, and not a soul stops by for 20 minutes?
