General | Posted 12 years agoHtbD update on the way
General | Posted 12 years agoHello everybody. Just thought I'd clear the air a little bit.
I realize it's been over 2 months since the last page of HtbD was posted. I sincerely apologize for this. But rest assured that the gears are in fact moving. Karno has been incredibly busy with real-life issues, not the least of which being the passing of his father and getting his affair in order.
But Me and Karno are very busy trying to get the next 3 pages done (yes I said 3 ); Karno's done the page sketches, I've marked the usual list of little details I'd like changed, Karno's now working on the inks and we're hoping to get them done this weekend or early next week, provided nothing else jams up the engine.
Just letting you guys now. The good stuff *is* coming.

*tilts head* Huh, iiiiiinteresting....
General | Posted 12 years agoI *nearly* had an incident at work.
General | Posted 12 years agoLet me tell you what happened to me this morning.
At my new job, a catamaran shuttle that transports technicians out to an offshore windfarm, we have one lady Tech. From the rest of the crew I've Heard that she's more than a Little bit of a bitch, but I've never had any indication of such things, other than she doesn't talk to me much.
Today I found out that there is some merit to the rumors.
Let me explain the situation a bit first. These windmills open up at the top, and they have cranes up there to lift equipment up off and down to our ship. The top of the windmills can also rotate, moving the center-line of the crane-chain over our ship so the cargo just comes right down on our deck. My job when they do this is to reach out/up and grab the cargo while it's still a few feet off the deck and pull it in more to the center, where the Techs have their equipment container, unhook it, then signal them to retract the chain.
Also, a month ago the land cable from the main transformer station stopped transferring power from the mills, due to a internal fault I think, so now we have a few diesel generators standing on the mills to provide power while the Techs are working on them that we move around from time to time.
Okay, background done. Here is where it gets interesting.
Me and the skipper have just dropped off the last of the Techs and are heading to the windmill the lady Tech is on to drop off some equipment bags that are waiting for delivery on the ship. As we approach we can see the chain is about 3/4 of the way down, and the skipper checks the wind and current, then calls the mill to inform them that they need to rotate the top to get the chain right over us. The lady Tech come on the walkie-talkie, telling us that the hydraulics work very poorly running on just the diesel generators and that it's going to be a problem to turn it correctly. Both me and the skipper look at each other at that; neither of us had ever heard such a thing Before.
We get up to the mill and I go out on deck, whereupon I see the chain dangling in the air *outside* the ship. This is unheard of in my 3 weeks on the job and I call them up on my walkie to tell them to rotate the top more. Lady Tech come on sounding irritated as she tells me that would take too long and tells me to grab it with a boathook. I check the chain; it's about 7ft out and 4ft above me, so yeah, I'll need the hook for that. But that is also more than a little likely of me ending up in the drink, so I call the skipper over the walkie and tell him I'm going to go get my lifevest (we usually only wear those when we go on to the mills, or when there's an obvious risk of falling in). Now Lady Tech calls and asks what I need that for, sounding even more impatient. I press the call button and tell her in no uncertain terms that this is a risky situation and I am *not* taking any chances since she's not rotated the top.
I get my lifevest, grab the boathook and get up to the edge of the ship rail, hook the chain, pull it to the bags to be lifted and hook them on.
Now, some more facts. Those of you who are good at physics have probably already spotted the potential problem here, but I like to be thorough. When you have a rope or a chain attached to a high point, and the lower end is lying on the ground a bit to the side, and you pull up on the top of the rope, the end is going to move both up and towards the centerline of the top of the chain, i.e right under it.
Now picture the end of the line being attached to a bundle of bags that weighs a fair bit over 200lbs, I'm holding on to the bundle to try my best to minimize the swing once it's free of the ship, and the centerline is *outside* the ship.
Yeah, this is not a riskfree situation.
Now I call ahead to the Techs to pulse the crane (since it's electrical and only has one speed) because I don't want to be pulled off my feet. Instead of pulling directly alongship as it's usually done, with this situation the bundle will be pulled diagonally off the side, and there is more than a little stuff in the way. But nope, Lady Tech (or whoever else was running the crane) just went full speed right away, and I'm shuffle-stepping along, leaning back while holding on to the handles and doing my level best to make sure it doesn't get caught on anything that'll rip the bags apart, or trip me and sending my ass to the metal deck.
While this is going on Lady Tech comes on the walkie talkie and telling me to hold on to the bags so they don't swing or get caught. My hands are busy doing just that so I can't reply, but the skip calls back "He already knows that." (they could both damn well *see* that I'm doing that at this point). I am now being both pulled and lifted by the bundle, and I'm doing my damndest not to fall as I climb over everything that's in the way.
Now the railing is coming up, and about 2ft from the edge I figure "Fuck it, any more and I'm going over the side", and *just* as my hands open and the bags swing free, my feet about a foot from the side, I hear Lady Tech go "Apparently not." over the radio.
There were a lot of curses going through my mind at that point that I probably would have gotten fired for if I'd spewed them over the radio.
Now the bags are free and going up, swinging a fair bit, but definitely as little as could be helped in a situation like this, and I knew there was little more I could have done to prevent it under these circumstances.
Now Lady Tech comes over the walkie asking why I didn't use the boathook to hold the bags steady. There are 3 ways that could have gone.
1) The bags could have been held so that the swinging would be held to a minimum, then the boathook would have been detached and all would be well. This is not very likely as the bags were going both up *and* away from me at an uncomfortable speed, leading to most likely,
2) The boathook catches on the bags, getting yanked out of my hands and into the drink, or
3) The boathook catches on the bags, and I get pulled along, leading to me either going overboard, or dangling from the bags. Neither of these are good situations in any sense of the Word.
Two out of Three outcomes ending badly = Fuck that noise.
We had one more load to ship up, but that one went smoother (thank the Powers That Be) since I knew what and how to do it.
After that, me and the skip moved to the next mill. During the trip me and the skip discussed what had just happened (seems he missed the "apparently not" comment). I just concluded that the rumors had some weight behind them. Skip was a lot more succinct, and his line essentially boiled down to "fucking bitch".
This was only exasperated when we called ahead to the next crew, telling them that they would also need to turn the top of their mill to get into position, and all we heard was "No problem". Me and the skip just shook our head at that. Lady Tech is apparently the only uncooperative Tech in these Waters.
The cherry on top for this situation is that now, a bit later when we've dropped off the last of the gear and are just drifting, one line attached to mill to keep us in place, Skip suddenly starts laughing. I check to see what's so funny. Looking where he's pointing, I see Lady Tech's mill, with the top *now* rotated into the perfect position for what we asked for.
*facepalm*

A question for the generous HtbD donors.
General | Posted 12 years agoHello everybody.
I recently considered that those lovely fans who are generous to actually give some of their hardearned money to see more pages of HtbD come out should be given some extra bonus. That gave me the idea to create a mailing-list of all donors, who would get the privilege of getting the sketch of the comic sent right to their inbox right after Karno sends it to me. An advanced sneak peek essentially.
Now, the possible complication with this is the fact that, while I have the adresses that you sent the donation via PayPal with, that might not be a SFW adress, for whatever reason. So, I'm thinking that I'm gonna send out a mass letter to everybody who's donated so far, and asking if they'd be okay with getting the sketch-preview to the same adress, or if they'd give me an alternate adress, or if they don't want the preview. Their call.
Those of you reading this who already are donors, any thoughts?

And thus I turn 33
General | Posted 12 years agoYep, today was my birthday. A few more years to go before I reach my mid-30's but I'm getting there. X3
Wasn't really much fanfare about it, but neither was there anything depressing about it. It's just my birthday. Lots of friends congratulating me on Facebook, and I just got back frm a very nice little dinner out on the town with my mom and sis. Very cozy little place called Mando, an old and wellknown restaurant who's theme is that almost every surface save the floor is copperplated. Love eating there.
And since I'm making a journal anyway, I figure I might as well give you guys a general update too. The comic is coming along well, with a nice big buffer of scripts churned out by my muse during a particularly productive weekend. Karno's been very busy with other commissioners though, but I'm not on any kind of schedule here, so I let him take the time he needs. Besides, you guys and gals have gotten 3 pages this month, so you're already spoiled. XD
Still unemployed, but I'm hopeful. I'll make it by.
Also, I have way too many good games to play on my recently restored PC (almost all my game saves were lost in the process).
The Mass Effect series,
Dishonored
Battlefield 3,
Blacklight: Retribution,
Ghostbusters,
Crysis 2,
Wolfenstein,
Dead Space 1&2,
Bioshock 1&2,
Bulletstorm,
Singularity,
Deus Ex Human Revolution,
Prototype 1&2,
Darksiders 1&2,
And to top it off, I've preordered Bioshock Infinite, and I*m kinda thinking about getting Crysis 3, Metal Gear Rising, Dead Space 3, maybe Far Cry 3
I'm also considering getting into the latest F2P games, like Planetside 2, Dust 514 and that F2P MP FPS from the Crysis team (can't remember what it's called but it's going to be in open Beta soon).
Good lord. I can't see having a life and playing all those games at the same time. XD
Hope y'all have a nice day now.
Peace.

An update of sorts...
General | Posted 13 years agoLet's see, where to begin.
Yesterday I had to turn in my entire pc setup to a computer shop on account of just having tried just about everything else I dated to do on my own to fix the severe lag that, frankly, made it impossible to use it for the main reason I got it, games and movies.
So until at best the middle of next week, I don't have a home computer ( I'm writing this on my iPhone). Lovely.
Also, Karno has returned from FC free of Con Crud, and he's told me he's begun inking the latest page, so hopefully those will show up next week or so. If the rig ain't back by then, I'll work something out.
I'm a bit worried since the rough script for part 3 of HtbD was on the pc when, *just* the night before I was gonna turn in the rig, it caught a virus that pretty much locked up the entire computer (couldn't even start it in safe mode XP), meaning that I had to turn in the un-backed script along with the PC. That does not make me happy.
Anyways, that's it folks. Bit of trouble at my end, but things out of my control at least seem to be progressing. Take care.

Dead Space, I love ya, but...
General | Posted 13 years agoYou're not worth this much.
Seriously, I *am* buying Dead Space 3 for PC. That has been decided since I saw the first trailer.
And I then heard about the possibility of getting a little bonus if you preordered the Limited Edition via Amazon (yeah, I know about the bonus gun from GameStop, but I wasn't interested in that one). So, since I already had an Amazon account (barely ever use it though), I took a look at it.
60 bucks.
Huh.
Okay, that was a little more than I expected. Then again, it is fresh on launch day, so I figure it might be well worth that. Then I got Amazon to calculate the cost with shipping and taxes.
It jumped to nearly a hundred bucks.
Okay, wtf.
This needed local comparison, so I checked out what the local prices in Sweden for the limited edition would be. It comes out at between 65 and 75 dollars (equivalent).
So, what they're telling me is that, if I preorder from Amazon, I'm essentially paying roughly thirty bucks extra for a single gun in *one* game which latest gimmick is that you can now combine parts to literally make hundred, if not thousands, of varient guns.
Ummmm, no. Fuck that, and fuck Amazon. I'm buying it in stores here at home. .
Oh, and another thing that pisses me off? Both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are getting the Dead Space 3 demo, and completing the demo unlocks a new set of Mass Effect-themed armor in the game.
And PCs don't get the demo.
Seriously, wtf kinda marketing is that?
John Bain, aka TotalBiscuit, sums up the topic perfectly in this post.

Django Unchained review.
General | Posted 13 years agoHoly shit.
Okay, got that outta my system. Let's get on with the review.
I just came back from seing this movie in the theatre and I'm gonna avoid spoilers as much as I can, so I'll keep it brief.
One. Christoph Waltz's character "King Schultz" has got to be among the top 10 coolest characters ever portrayed in movies, if in fact not the top 5. I'd watch this movie again solely to see him.
Two. This had got to be the goriest, or at least *bloodiest*, western I have ever seen. I'm serious. At one point in the movie (those of you who have seen it no doubt know which one I'm talking about... actually, come to think about it, you probably don't... that right there should tell you something), I found myself thinking "...Not even the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies were this bloody".
Three. Jamie Foxx plays one of the best Badass Motherfuckers (Yes, that is an actual character description. Look it up.) I've ever seen. Still, DAMN!
Four. This is a LONG-ass movie. Almost three hours. If you have small bladders, consider yourselves warned.
Five. Damn Quentin Tarantino got fat.
Six. Holy shit. This movie singlehandedly made me utter that phrase more times than any flick I can remember in my whole life. And I've seen some shit.
In summary. Go see this movie. You will laugh your asses off. Guaranteed.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!!!
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, 2013 is now officially 2 hours old where I am. Had a great night with some friends and a truckload of fireworks. I'm now ready for bed. Pity I'm not sharing it with anyone, but oh well.
And I'm sorry that it's been a while since the last HtbD page. I've been having some problems finding the energy to write the page scripts, but I*m hoping to have things back on track this week. Neither I nor Karno are dead so the comic will continue. We'll probably start on Part #3 this year come to think of it. Lots of good time ahead for our unusual couple.
Again, happy new years. Have fun, party hard, come home safely.

Well, *this* is interesting
General | Posted 13 years ago*sigh* Well crap, I'm out of a job
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, can't really say I'm all that surprised. The company I work at was going really slow last month, so I got put on a month's notice, and today it ran out. It's kind of a bittersweet irony that I lose my job on the same day I get my paycheck.
But it's weird. Okay, last month was practically empty, but these last two weeks my hands have been completely full. And from what I*ve heard from the other guys, some regular projects that are pretty much my specialty are on the way, so I can't quite figure out what the boss is thinking. Most of the crew thinks he's gonna call within a week and ask me to come back. That would be nice, but it wouldn't exactly be a surprise.
Anyway, I am now officially unemployed. I'm not gonna be hurting for money for quite a while, but I gotta start looking for a new job or I'll go nuts.
Told the boss I might consider goign back to sea. But I gotta admit, in the 4 years since the last time I stepped off a ship, it's kinda lost its charm a little. Not sure I wanna go back to that life.
Ah well, just keeping you guys informed. This won't really affect the rate that HtbD comes out; I worked out the math for that a long time ago.
Stay safe. Hope your employment is steadier than mine. XD

Spreading the word on a great deal!!!
General | Posted 13 years ago
ssn_inc is having a special sketch stream this weekend where he will be offering sketches at less than half the usual price (!) to raise money to keep him and his afloat until the end of the month. He's asked anybody willing to spread the word, and I'm more than willing. My gallery has several of his pieces in it, which should tell you the kind of quality this guy can put out.Go here for details!
Great artist, great deal and great art. Who can resist that? Not me.
So if you've got some spare cash (just $10 is enough) and some free time this weekend, then I highly recommend you swing by and give the man some business.
WOOHOO!! 3K BABY!!

THREE THOUSAND WATCHERS!!
Man, another milestone reached. I gotta think of something to celebrate.
Any suggestions? I'm open for ideas. :3

Vacation, or else
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, today was the first day of my unplanned vacation, and it could have gone better.
Lemme fill you guys in. Last Friday my boss walked up to me and told me that since the company is having something of a slow time right now, and I've got almost 3 weeks of vacation saved up, he wanted me to take this week off.
That, or get put on notice.
Yikes, talk about the stick and the carrot at the same time.
But well, it's the blackberry season, and I need to get started on my driving theory (again! XP), I said yes, but I'm not sure if I should take all of my vacation time, sicne if they *do* need to let me go, I get the vacation time out as cash in hand. Still, one week at this time of year can't hurt.
Just a shame the day started with me being a little nauseous, which got joined by a mean headache later on. I had a hot RP date setup, but I wound up just taking some mild painkillers and taking a nap right about when we were supposed to meet up on the chat.
Still, turns out she feel right asleep about the same time, so no real loss. :)
Oh well, I'm feeling better now, but I still need a good night's sleep.
Talk to you guys later.

Summer's winding down, Back to work
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, August is here, and the heat is starting to fade ever so slightly. Still, this sumemr has been pretty good. I had three weeks of vacation during the hottest period, then SMACK dab when I go back to work, the rain comes crashing down. Booyah!
Also, a lot of you will have noticed that there was no HtbD page in July. That was mainly 'cause payday (and the day I usually write the next pagescript) happened right in the middle of my vacation, at which point I really didn't want to sit indoors and write at the computer. That, and my muse was distracted as hell from all the lovely lovely leisure time.
But, the wheels are back in motion, or getting there at least. I've sent the latest pagescript to KArno and he told me he'd have a sketch for me this week. We are funded, via generous donations from the fans or just plain me, up to page #25 (Woohoo!), and I'm working through the script right now. We might actually get to finish this part this year if the muse get's back on her feet (she's snoring in the hammock atm). And then it's on to Part 3!
Interesting times ahead indeed. I also need to get off my ass with the Rave series. I really do. Oh well, nothing for it.
*flips hammock upside down, dumping the drowsy muse promptly on her ass*
"WAKE UP, we've got shit to do!!! Now here, hold the hedgetrimmer. The fucking Humle is eating the damn house."

W00T!!! PARACORD!!!
General | Posted 13 years agoGot my shipment of fresh paracord in the mail today. Had to go to the post office to check out the box. About 300 ft in various colors. Have to admit, I've been binging with making paracord bracelets, and I've gotten about four done by now. One Piranha, one Double Corset Spine, one Bound Endless Falls, and the cherry on top, a frikking King Cobra Stitch (my very first one!!).
Got plans for a few more I wanna try tomorrow. Gonna be an interesting week. X3

My thoughts on more Halo games
General | Posted 13 years agoI wonder what it say about me that the ONLY reason I'd support another Halo game (or even a trilogy for that matter) is that Red versus Blue from Roosterteeth would get more material to work with?
Okay... Seriously... WTF???
General | Posted 13 years agoI actually just saw this.
This.
Commercial.
Actually.
Exists.

And for those who, for some inexplicable reason, wants to see the complete commercial, here you go.

Caution: You just might lose braincells just looking at this.
