Attention, Citizens! [updated]
Posted 14 years agoI will be moving to CommaChameleon by the end of the month. This move is an attempt to keep my various online identities more discrete.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
To put it simply, I don't want anyone who's not part of this community to know I'm a furry. I'm seeking employment and want to minimize the chances of this information being exposed. In addition, if it were circulated among my IRL network of friends, my life would be changed and not necessarily for the better.
WHY DO YOU CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK?
Humans are a social species. Everything we do is motivated by how we feel about other people, and how other people feel about us. What I'm doing is no different than the distinction many people make between their work life and their home life, which they must segregate to prevent one from interfering with the other. My analysis of my own situation is a bit more complex than this (I counted at least 4 separate roles I must maintain on the Internet) but the principle still holds.
WHAT'S BEING AFFECTED?
* My deviantart account, evilamoeba, has been deactivated. This was important to me because it was the strongest direct link between "evilamoeba" and my status as a furry.
* Several (but not all) pieces from this gallery will be transferred to CommaChameleon. I cannot guarantee that everything will still be available. If you're in doubt, and you want to hold onto a certain piece of mine, save it to your hard drive!
* The favorites gallery on this account will not be transferred. Those of you who inspect my favorites to find new art can expect a similar style of selection at CommaChameleon. However, others might want to take a last look through these favorites before time's up. (EDIT: okay I might refave some of my all-time favorites. But still.)
* I will probably create new accounts for instant messaging and other social networks. Note that this will allow me to more freely discuss furry topics on other websites, so I may become more active on Twitter, Tumblr, etc. All existing accounts will still be maintained, but I may refer new contacts to the appropriate CommaChameleon account.
* My default nick on IRC will now be CommaChameleon. I hope to remain active as an op in #gamebuilders
* My gaming accounts (Steam, League of Legends, etc) will maintain their current use. I will probably not be making a CommaChameleon alias for use in games. However, they will no longer be listed publicly (on CommaChameleon profiles).
* As CommaChameleon I will still have a lovable alligator character named Meeba. CommaChameleon may or may not have a chameleon "fursona" unless demanded by the populace.
WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING?
I've already begun creating new accounts, including the e-mail commeleon@gmail.com. As far as FA is concerned, no content will be removed early than May 1st. UPDATE: As I upload pieces into the new gallery I will remove them from here. This process has already begun.
If you have any other questions about this, ask down below!

Art I Commissioned! Check It Out!

For those not in the know, this guy is Ricky. He's a red squirrel who's articulate and knowledgeable in topics like history and the fine arts, but has a rather finicky personality. Normally he's the sort of guy you'd find at a near-Ivy League liberal arts college-- likes wearing polos and sandals, occasionally plays tennis, crippling fear of muggers, etc. However, he owns a high-tech power suit (created by his scientifically inclined cousin--an opossum named Medina) that makes him a master of sound distortion and illusion, with which he attempts to investigate unusual happenings anonymously.
I've mostly been using him for role-playing purposes lately, but there's a chance you'll see a story involving him one of these days.

The Superbowl
Posted 14 years ago1. I did NOT need to hear Fergie sing Sweet Child of Mine.
2. Upon thinking about it further, I'm not sure I would call that singing.
3. Where is the LOl 'E?
I don't mean to comment on the Black Eyed Peas in general (they sound decent coming out of the studio, and I think there is some merit in that), but it's hard to argue that this was a good performance.

A little social experiment...
Posted 14 years agoI wonder how many unsolicited IMs I can get before 6 AM Monday morning.
AIM: evilamoebaexe
Yahoo: evilamoebadotexe
MSN: the.evilamoeba[at]gmail.com
Steam: evilamoeba
Leauge of Legends: EvilAmoeba
Bloodline Champions: Meeba
I will attempt to chat with everybody who sends me a message. Spam away! I'll post the results on Monday.
EDIT: Results!
4 people sent me unsolicited IMs. 3 of them were people I already knew and 1 of them was somebody I already knew who pretended to be somebody I didn't. Less exciting on the whole than I would have hoped.

Streaming something creative for once!
Posted 14 years agoHey guys, I heard you liked art.
Come watch me ramble as I try to get my tablet set up and color a can of diet soda.
After that I might work on music or bore you with another eccentric indie game.

EDIT: Stream's concluded, obviously. Thanks to everyone who took their time to watch.

What you see is not an exaggeration; this is what happens every time I try to play Starcraft. The artist, Commissar-K, is not a cartoonist, but in the documentary business. He's also pretty righteous dude and is still offering commissions like mine for low, low prices. Contact him for more information.
Relatedly, how many of my watchers play League of Legends? I'm in a losing streak and I need to improve my skills. Consider myaward-winning award-resistant talents for hire.

US Bill to Censor the Internet.

As you might have seen several times before, a US senator has introduced a bill that has honorable intentions (helping fight piracy) but overextends itself (by allowing the federal government to firewall these websites, both domestic and foreign, without due process of law). You can find more information (disclaimer: from activitists) at http://demandprogress.org/blacklist/coica and sign a petition. If you have a little more time on your hands and want to make a bigger impact, call or send a letter to your representatives. http://www.senate.gov/general/conta.....nators_cfm.cfm E-mail is not an acceptable alternative for sending a letter to wrinkly lawmakers.

Commission Bounty ($20)
Posted 15 years agoAlrighty, here's the deal. I have suddenly been overcome by narcissism and am interested in getting another picture of my character. I'd like to see what a gator-ferret looks like-- that is, a combination of this guy http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3189682 and this guy http://www.furaffinity.net/view/794459/.
The thing is, I don't know which artists are comfortable (or willing to experiment) with reptile/mammal hybrids. So, I'm invoking the power of my social network. If you know an artist who could fulfill my request, even if that artist is you, leave me a comment on this journal. I'm willing to pay around $20-$30 depending on the art quality. (To the artist, not the commenter)

Rate My Fursona (Meme)
Posted 15 years agoEvaluate that gooey alligator/amoeba you know so well.
1. What do you think my character would have a job/career in?
2. What is unique about my character that you enjoy?
3. What are his/her personality flaws? (Don't count physical things like "can't run fast" or "weak to fire magic".)
4. What are some changes you would like to see? (not "none")
5. What would you like to see my character doing in the future?
6. How old does my character look? (assuming a typical lifespan)
7. On a qualitative scale, how attractive is my character? Is he someone you could trust?
8. On a scale to 0-9, where 7 is "as attractive as the prettiest real person I know" how sexually attractive is my character?
9. On a scale to 0-9, where 0 is "not at all" and 9 is "perfectly", how well does my character fit me? Are there any notable discrepancies?
10. If you could, how would you personally change him to fit me better? Would you suggest starting from scratch if I wanted to accomplish this?
Try to compose your thoughts before reading what other people think.

Comprehending the Abstract and the Surreal
Posted 15 years ago(10:27:14) Meeba: If you look at abstract art (or the lyrical equivalent) the whole point is creating something random and seeing what people can make out of it.
(10:27:45) Meeba: It's like creating a system from which meaning can be created, rather than telling a story with a particular moral.
AND SUDDENLY EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE. The world will never look the same to me.

Personality Test!
Posted 15 years agoThe Quick & Painless ENNAGRAM Test. http://helloquizzy.okcupid.com/test.....enneagram-test
I used random.org to answer the questions. Let's see how it lines up. Bolded are things I feel are applicable to me.
You are ONE - the Perfectionist
"I do everything the right way"
Perfectionists are realistic, conscientious, and principled.
They strive to live up to their high ideals.
How to Get Along with Me
• Take your share of the responsibility so I don't end up with all the work.
• Acknowledge my achievements.
• I'm hard on myself. Reassure me that I'm fine the way I am.
• Tell me that you value my advice.
• Be fair and considerate, as I am.
• Apologize if you have been unthoughtful. It will help me to forgive.
• Gently encourage me to lighten up and to laugh at myself when I get uptight, but hear my worries first.
What I Like About Being a ONE
• being self-disciplined and able to accomplish a great deal
• working hard to make the world a better place
• having high standards and ethics; not compromising myself
• being reasonable, responsible, and dedicated in everything I do
• being able to put facts together, coming to good understandings, and figuring out wise solutions
• being the best I can be and bringing out the best in other people
What's Hard About Being a ONE
• being disappointed with myself or others when my expectations are not met
• feeling burdened by too much responsibility
• thinking that what I do is never good enough
• not being appreciated for what I do for people
• being upset because others aren't trying as hard as I am
• obsessing about what I did or what I should do
• being tense, anxious, and taking things too seriously
ONEs as Children Often
• criticize themselves in anticipation of criticism from others
• refrain from doing things that they think might not come out perfect
• focus on living up to the expectations of their parents and teachers
• are very responsible; may assume the role of parent
• hold back negative emotions ("good children aren't angry")
ONEs as Parents
• teach their children responsibility and strong moral values
• are consistent and fair
• discipline firmly
It's amazing how perceptive this quiz is to somebody who didn't even answer the questions. :Y

1 vs 1 Games of all varieties
Posted 15 years agoName every game you can think of that's played 1 vs 1, or can easily be adapted for 1 on 1 play.
Extra credit for games that:
* Are free/easy to find
* Take about 20 minutes to an hour to play, or can be extended into a set of games for a 20-60 minute match
* have anthro characters (negative points for ones that look like a McDonald's ad)
* Are actually fun
Speed run/time trial modes are okay, provided you have reason to believe the game is consistent enough to be played as a speed run.

Writing Tools
Posted 15 years agoHas anyone tried using this? http://paperrater.com/free_paper_grader
I posted one of my school papers into this. While I really like the interface and some of the analysis (average sentence length, number of long/short sentences) I can't help but disagree with some of the suggestions. They recommend changing words like "frequently" and "employ" to "often" and "use." This seems inappropriate for a paper in which the goal is to sound smart.
Relatedly, I'm looking for writers to start following on this site. Any recommendations?

A team of myself and my friends (names withheld for their protection) vs random pubbers. You could say there's room for improvement in my Left 4 Dead skills.
I have a feeling that it's mostly just execution issues right now (as in I'm not good enough at shooting and communicating information to my team for more advanced tactics to be reasonable) but getting shut out this badly leaves me suspicious. Does... anyone have any tips beyond the basic "stay together" for survivors and "attack the ones that aren't staying together" for the infected? I'm at a loss here. o_o;

Anywho, Corvi was open for commissions so I decided "why not?" For only $7 I'm really impressed with the results of this sketch! I might go back later and do my own coloring with shading and whatnot but for now, you guys should totally hop over there, fave the pic and give her some more traffic. :>
