Win a free scalemate plush on tumblr
Posted 12 years agoHey all,
In an attempt to start drumming up interest in my plushies, I'm holding a contest on tumblr. There's going to be another one on FA eventually, but if you use tumblr, you can check it out and enter the contest now. The only way you can get a scalemate from me is by winning a contest. Here's the info:
http://evilcorynn.tumblr.com/post/6.....est-time-heres
I should have more info about offering commissions on here soon too.
I also made a FB page for my plushies: https://www.facebook.com/corysplushies

Changes!
Posted 12 years agoExcitement! Anxiety! Hooo boy.
I want to talk about this, but I can't let coworkers see it until I'm ready to turn in my notice, so this is the only safe place I have to mention it. My best friend and his husband just adopted a baby (six weeks old now) and my best friend has been on maternity leave but will need to go back to work soon. I've been having issues with my anxiety which have prevented me from working for a while, because it's manifesting as agoraphobia now (though I still technically have my job). My friends wanted a full time nanny so...
Pretty soon, I'm going to be a live-in nanny at their place. There's still details to work out (I need to give notice at work, and at my apartment). I'm not going to have any expenses besides my phone and food, but I'm going to be poooooor. So I'll probably start trying to sell my plushies in earnest. Oh yeah, I haven't been posting anything in a while. I'm going to have to start doing that soon.
So yeah. Going from living alone and working in a call center to living with two married men and their baby and being a nanny. From making pretty darn good money to making so little that I could probably technically be on welfare. But this is good, because with my medical issues, I'm not getting paid right now and I've used all my FMLA, so there's not much time left before my work can fire me if I can't return full time. So, better to give notice and have a plan for what to do next.

I pledged at the level to get a tail and four different colored tail covers.

Some stuff
Posted 12 years agoSo, I've been unwatching people. I need to seriously reduce the time I spend on the internet. I have personal friends (and family) on FA that I want to continue checking on, but I need to be able to check FA less often, which means I don't want to sort through a hundred submissions whenever I come by.
I don't want anyone to feel badly if I stop watching them. It's not because I don't like you or your art. It's just that I'm not commissioning anyone every, anymore (and I watched a lot of people to see when they were open for commissions). And some of you, I follow in other places now (like Tumblr).
Anyway, thanks to everyone who made my time here at FA fun and rewarding. I'm not like deleting my account or anything, but I feel like my FA days are something of the past now.

‘Hobbit’ Animal Deaths: Up To 27 Die As Wranglers Blame Production Company: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/.....n_2158198.html
I do not like PETA (who are mentioned in this article), but the fact is that Peter Jackson chose to use live animals on the set of his films (even when CGI was a possible alternative) and many animals died of disease and accidents that could have been prevented. He said that over half of the scenes with animals were CGI. I don’t understand why more couldn’t have been CGI (do you really need live chickens that badly in a movie?).
Horses with broken necks or backs, chickens mauled by dogs, goats and sheep kept in poor conditions and falling ill.
It was easy boycotting The Grey, since that was probably a terrible movie anyway. But this is going to be painful. Ugh. Fuck you Peter Jackson. Fuck you for making a trilogy I really want to see and choosing to abuse animals instead of using the really good CGI you have access to. Just… fuck you.
Edit: Originally I posted this link: http://www.radaronline.com/exclusiv.....-animal-deaths
But because it referred to PETA in the subject, everyone latched onto that one word and assumed it was all BS because PETA was involved. Let me be clear. PETA is a horrible organization that has done a lot of terrible things and has lied. But they aren’t always wrong. And they’re not the only ones who are reporting this problem.
The original sources were the animal wranglers, and the fact that there were problems was confirmed by the American Humane Association:
http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen.....,4102302.story
The Humane Society of the United States is involved too:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne.....at-they-394826
I changed my original link because this one has more information (thought it’s not as concise as my original link). It also has Peter Jackson’s response. I personally find his response unsatisfactory. I am personally boycotting the Hobbit trilogy. Other people reading this can make their own decisions.

I need monies
Posted 13 years agoMy mom is helping me out with my surgery, and I've already put down $1000 for it. I am going to need another $1000 by 12/18.
I have no idea how I'm going to manage that.
My attempts at getting commissions always fails. Man, I just don't know. If I end up getting paid for the three weeks of work that I missed, I will be OK. But right now, I don't know if they're going to approve my claim for that. And if they do approve it, I might not actually get the money until after the new year.
I'm so fucking stressed out.

$5 commissions, need help!
Posted 13 years agoHi all,
If you know me, you know I've been sick and missed work for the past three weeks. They stopped paying me sick time two weeks ago. Though I'm OK with paying rent and stuff from my most recent paycheck, my next paycheck is going to be close to $0. I still have savings, but I'd rather not dip into it to take care of my bills.
I know my art isn't great, but I can at least offer something cheap and quick! I've been drawing and coloring with pencil and markers and would like to offer that style for commission.
Check out some examples here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7631668892430/
Cost $5 per character.
Additional $5 for backgrounds
Right now, I don't want to ship originals, just because I don't have the time to do it.
If you're interested, please PM me with what you want and references (if you don't have references, a description of what you want is fine). You can request something really specific, or leave it up to me. Ask for whatever you want, I'll let you know if there's any issue with me drawing it.
I can accept payment through paypal.
If you could spread the word, I'd appreciate it! Let me know if you do, and I'll doodle something for you (post a ref of what you want doodled).

Silent Sentinels Suffragettes
Posted 13 years agoWomen like the Silent Sentinels ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Sentinels ) fought long and hard for the right to vote. Even where willing to go to jail, they suffered brutality, and they never gave up. All we have to do to vote is register online and then fill out a mail-in ballot. If suffragettes could get the shit beat out of them in order to vote, then we can slap a stamp on a ballot.
Register to vote right now! On the internets!

I wouldn't have a problem with it (i fucking hate half the porn on this site), but there are artists whose porn I do like, and it keeps saying i have submissions I haven't looked at, and I can't fucking figure out how to look at it!

Posted 13 years agoI've decided to get chest reconstruction done. I'm starting the process of figuring out how much it's going to cost now. Estimates I've seen range from $1500 to $8500. I have no idea how I'm going to pay for it if it's fucking $8500.

Posted 13 years agoMan, I'm such a whiner. But this has been a crazy month.
I finished getting my octopus tattoo colored, but didn't get to the background. Dropped $300 on the last sitting.
Oh and then my cat got sick. Another $300 on the vet bill (thankfully, she's much improved).
About $250 for a hotel on a visit to see my mom. That wasn't any kind of issue before the vet bill. It was just a little bit frustrating after the vet bill.
Now, I have to get a crown because one of my teeth broke. That'll be another 5-6 hundred out of pocket. Now we've gotten to the point where I don't even want to buy the next book in the China Mieville series I'm reading and I'm definitely not going to be getting the background done for my tattoo any time soon.
Found out my dad is a diagnosed psychopath. Which actually is kind of a relief. All these years, I've been trying to get my dad to love me, and now I realize that it's not possible. I can give up on trying to have a relationship with him.
But, someone else in my family has crossed a line with me. And that's still upsetting me. One thing I have learned since I escaped my psychopathic father's influence is that I don't need to put up with people being unkind to me just because they're family. So I feel that action is required. I'm just not sure what, yet.
On the bright side, I have found out that you can get domestically bred, hand-raised African pied crows as pets in the US. It looks like it'll cost about $1500, but that's something I think I'm going to save up for and get one day. I've always wanted a pet crow, but would never be so cruel as to take one out of the wild. Plus, it's illegal to keep domestic crows as pets.

This woman makes amazing tails out of yarn. She doesn't have many pictures up right now (I'll be getting mine soon, so I'll be sure to get plenty of pictures to share). But trust me, they're freaking awesome. Go commission her, and help her buy a simple urn for her uncle who passed away. Or donate just a couple of dollars.
