Artist to commission spotlight: Kittiara
Posted 13 years agoI commission a lot of artists, because I think what they do is awesome, and I like helping people out when they need money. And, of course, I love my characters. Seeing other people draw them is the best thing.
I’ve been really frustrated lately by some artists who I commissioned almost a year ago, at least one artist who disappeared with my money, and some people who did not deliver what was promised. That sucks. But I keep getting rewarded by working with people who are consistently awesome and I thought that it would be nice to do some little thing to try to reward their hard work. I thought I’d write up posts about the folks that I think are awesome, and share their awesomeness with others!
The first person I want to share with everybody is Kittiara: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/kittiara/ . I know, she’s already pretty well known! My brother showed me her art, and she was the first person I commissioned when I joined FurAffinity.
Kittiara isn’t cheap, and there’s no wonder why. Her work is amazing, professional level stuff. You have to have patience when you commission her. She’s going to school, and schoolwork comes first, which I think is fair. But it is so worth the wait. And she constantly updates commissioners about what’s going on (either through journal updates, or through notes).
Here's the pictures I've gotten from her:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3986005/ Scrae (digital painting): I didn’t give her a picture ref of Scrae. I used to enjoy asking people to draw him based on a description (which I have since found out most artists don’t like to do, much to my dismay). It may be my all time favorite picture of him.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6184881/ Vic (digital): Vic is an RP character, a transgender doberman/lion. Kittiara asked for people to suggest characters for her to draw, and I got lucky and she picked mine!
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6206571 carp (Byzantine badge, traditional): Kittiara calls these Byzantine badges. They are traditional paintings and they are beautiful. carp is my more commonly used fursona.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4994164/ Cora (digital): This was my first attempt at a fursona. With a rather crummy reference sheet, and just a few words about Cora’s personality, Kittiara captured her perfectly!
PS: Kittiara is not open for commissions at the time this is being posted. If you're not already watching her, you should, though.

Man, why am I so addicted to commissions?
Posted 13 years agoI told myself I wouldn't get more until all my outstanding ones were done. And yet, I just bought two today.
Finally got everything from the Japan Charity Auction (yay!).
Now I have three outstanding commissions. One person is rad and keeps telling me what's going on. One hasn't sent me a note since August. Another apparently left FA three months ago and I don't know if they finished my commissions or what.
And I won a commission from a raffle thing that I never got. Man this is a lot of work keeping track of this stuff.

Spread the word: Boycott The Grey
Posted 13 years agoLiam Neeson is in a movie called The Grey (which is about something that would probably never happen: wolves hunting a group of men lost in Alaska). He said in an interview that he and other actors ate grey wolf stew to get into character.
The director may have also ordered wolf carcases from trappers to use in the film.
I'm not a fan of Peta, but they've called for a boycott of the movie, and I agree wholeheartedly with it. All over the country, grey wolves have been removed from the endangered species lists due to pressure from ranchers. The grey wolf is doing a lot better than it was when it was first added to the endangered species list, but the population levels are far lower than they once were, and I think it's irresponsible for people who are in the limelight to be so casual about hurting animals.

3DS friends!
Posted 13 years agoI have a 3DS, and I finally got my wifi working (thanks to a donation of a wireless router from my brother-in-law).
I guess the thing to do now is to get friends?

Commissions and/or Trades
Posted 13 years ago(prices and examples are towards the bottom)
I would like to tentatively see if anyone would be interested in commissions or trades for felt dolls. I have two patterns I've created for human/furry dolls. I really don't need the extra income that badly, but I thought what I could do is use any money I get to commission other people for stuff I want! And with that in mind, I'll be very open to trades.
I'm out of a lot of felt colors, so depending on what you want, it might take a couple of weeks (I'm trapped in my apartment by snow, so it could be a bit before I can go shopping). I'll be very happy to provide progress pics! In fact, you probably couldn't stop me.
I'd be veeeerrrrry interested in a trade for a nice pair of wolf ears (hint hint).
So here's what I've got:
16cm felt plush, starting at $20
Examples: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7241019 | http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7229167 | http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7229124
Characteristics of these plushes: blanket stitches (you can see the stitch on the outside), generally don't stand on their own.
18cm sit up felt plush, starting at $25
Examples: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7205896 | http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7058406/ | http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7056315/
Characteristics: Sit up, but aren't flexible enough to stand up, hidden stitches.
Starting prices for both include simple clothes that are not necessarily removable, basic features (standard hair, ears, tails, wings, etc), simple details/designs.
Add $5 for crazy detailed features, complex details/patterns/deigns, removable clothes. Depending on how difficult additions might be, I reserve the right to ask for more!
Is there anything else I should add when attempting to get people to commission me?

Now what am I going to draw?
Posted 14 years agoI got tired of the 30 day challenge on day 29.
I like to try to draw something every day while I'm at work. But I need suggestions!

Damn tempting artists and your commissions
Posted 14 years agoI decided to make a deal with myself. I could commission people again after all my outstanding commissions are done. So at the rate these things are going... I'll be commissioning people again in like six months.
Bluh bluh bluh
Posted 14 years agoI have been very uninspired lately. I have been trying to make sure I draw something every day, but I've been failing at that a lot lately. I sit down with my sketchbook and I just don't want to draw. So I pick something random or ask a friend to throw out an idea. The only thing I really want to do is finish the comics about my werewolf, and I lost the little book that I'm drawing them in. So yay.
Almost set for pride!
Posted 14 years agoI got my new tail today from
jpupbob and hopefully will get new ears from
thedragongirl so I can be all furfagged out for the pride parade on Sunday. Yay!

Wanted: Cheap ass wolf ears
Posted 14 years agoHey all, do you know anyone from whom I can get a pair of simple wolf ears on a headband?
I have plans to commission a very fancy, and expensive, pair of ears from someone, but they won't be taking commissions for a while. In the meantime, I would like a simple set of ears to wear with the new tail I'm expecting soon. I want to wear them at the pride parade at the end of the month (furry pride represent!)

Looking for requests again, this time... babies!
Posted 14 years agoI like making hybrids (some of you may have noticed), so sometimes I take characters I create and imagine what their kids would look like. So here's the deal: pick one of your characters (or any character or something else out there) and then pick one of mine, and we'll see what their babies look like!
Just comment here.
Here's a few of my characters if you need suggestions:

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4275875/ Clover the African wild dog
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5748257/ carp the wolf
PS: don't worry too much about their actual sex.

Would you like a chimera?
Posted 14 years agoIt started out as doing entries for a contest, now I'm just having fun making chimeras.
A chimera is a creature that is a combination of two or more other creatures. If you'd like, I'll make a chimera for you. Just give me a list of your favorite animals, and I will take bits and pieces of them and put them together in some fancy new combination.
Here's a few examples:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5751888
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5759654
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5765982
The only thing that each chimera will definitely have in common is that they will all have snake tails.
So let me know if you're interested. I'll basically be doing this until I'm no longer entertained by the idea!

I just gotta say something somewhere
Posted 14 years agoI had a panic attack this morning. I've had them much less than I did this time last year, when my depression was really bad, and I was in a job that made me go back and forth between crying or shouting throughout each day. Since then, I've been through lots of therapy, and I increased the dosage of my anti-depressant, and I have a new job with waaay less stress.
After I started the new job, stuff just seemed like it was perfect for a couple of months. It's a really great job. I can objectively stand back and see that. But, the last few days, getting out of bed has gotten harder. I start out every day hating my job, almost as much as I did my last one. And it's made me irritable and a bitch and I wasn't even fully aware of what was going on until pretty much last night.
And the panic attacks are back. They started again the day I was standing at my bus stop and a man jumped off a building across the street from me. It makes perfect since that I would freak out after that, and I took a few days off work, and I talked to my therapist, and I was afraid of going outside for a while. But then it seemed to go away. But now, every couple of weeks, I get another panic attack.
I need to get back to seeing my therapist regularly, and there probably needs to be adjustments to my medication. Unfortunately, I didn't see her so long, that it's become a pain in the ass to schedule an appointment (you have to apply to go to this particular clinic, because it caters to the queer community, and it helps people by giving free care a lot, so there's a whole process to starting treatment there. Now I have to do the same process again). And I don't want to talk to my doctor about changing up my meds without talking to my crazy doctor. So I'm basically going to have to hunker down and weather the storm for a few days more.
Sorry to lay that out here. I know I should talk about this kind of stuff when my depression gets bad, but with a lot of my friends and family, I see that it makes them worry and that stresses me out more. Sorry, John, that you are the one member of my family that is on FA! I think you understand better than a lot of other people though, and I think you know that I'll be OK in the end. It just is going to take some time and really suck for a while.
On the bright side, I'm not experiencing suicidal ideation (that's when you think about how you might go about committing suicide, but don't actually mean to carry out the plans, but it can turn into really being suicidal easily enough). That's usually the big sign that lets me know if I'm really fucked up. It's like a canary test. I can sit back and think "Do I want to imagine how I would kill myself today?" and if I'm horrified, I'm not too far gone.
Hey, on the bright side, I got a $75 amazon gift card at work today as part of a contest. I'm going to try to convince my friend (who's in charge of the prizes for this quarterly contest) to get a paypal giftcard as a prize (is that a real thing?). Then I could buy commissions with my prize money when I win future contests! And I will win.
I always win.

Posted 14 years agoI can't stop reading Homestuck. Now I get it. I understaaaaaaaand all the troll obsessing. I had all these things I wanted to draw this weekend but instead all I can do is this comic.
My brain is thinking on what my trollsona will be already, and I've only just gotten past act five, part one.

Posted 14 years agoWorking on requests
Posted 14 years agoSorry I didn't actually draw any requests on Sunday. I ended up sleeping off my headache. But now your requests will keep me busy for a few days!
Contest?
Posted 14 years agoIf I had a silly little contest, with the prize being a drawing from me, would anyone be interested?
No, I'm not going to ask you to do something where you draw my characters (that kind of contest seems like such a scam to me). It involves cats, Lovecraft, and photomanipulation.

Posted 14 years agoThis has been a pretty great, and pretty exhausting weekend.
Yesterday I got there fairly early with John. We started our day by standing in line to see Bruce Boxleitner (Tron himself). I got an autographed picture to give to Chaz. We then met Jonathan Frakes (William Riker). They were both pretty nice, and Frakes may or may not have been drunk. We had intended to try to meet William Shatner, but the lines were just too enormous to deal with. We heard he wasn't that great to meet anyway.
Then we wandered around to see the artists and writers that we were most interested in. I got sketches of most of them:
*Aaron Diaz: Does Dresden Codak: http://dresdencodak.com/ and drew me a roboctopus http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/ (he also did robo corgies for Gitai the next day http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/ )
*Pascalle Lepas does Zap! http://www.zapinspace.com/ and drew me my favorite villain from her comic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/
*David Willis does Shortpacked! http://www.shortpacked.com/ and drew my favorite lesbian character (and an octopus): http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/
*
hippybro drew two of my characters for me. Vic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/ and London: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn/5504918054/
He was sooooo super nice. I only commissioned black and white sketches for $10 a piece, but he went all out with them.
*Dylan Meconis does Family Man http://www.lutherlevy.com/ and drew me a Manticore: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn/5504912508/
*Evan Dahm does several great stories http://rice-boy.com/ I got no drawings from him, but did get a signed copy of Rice Boy. All his stuff is free online and I highly recommend it to pretty much anyone.
We went back to try to stand in line for Brent Spiner but my back was really hurting so I gave up and found a place to do some stretches and then sit for a while. John stuck the line out though. We were pretty much done after that.
Today I went back with Gitai and Jonathan. We were on a quest. We had to get someone to draw a picture of Gitai and the Martian Manhunter beating up Grant Morrison. And we did. David Hahn http://periscopestudio.com/david-hahn/ drew http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/
I also dressed up in my furry ensemble, because hippybro requested to see it. I got a lot more attention than I expected. A lot of people asked to take my picture (even a guy out on 4th and Pike where I stopped to buy some girl scout cookies).
I got a couple more commissions.
*Lar deSouza from http://www.leasticoulddo.com/index.php and http://lfgcomic.com/ did a picture of two characters. One is mine and one belongs to Canadian Laurie (It's partially a present for her): http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn/5504912340/
*Ben Dewey http://periscopestudio.com/ben-dewey/ did a picture of my pterosaur: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn/5504317729/
and a picture of Jonathan's nephew fighting a sith: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....7626079715749/
The highlight of the whole weekend was meeting Phoenix Jones! He's a real superhero from this area: http://www.facebook.com/guardianofseattle?ref=ts He's so nice and I got my picture with him!
As always, there were lots of great costumes, and lots of free swag, and books and toys to buy. I have enough reading material for a bit. If you want to see photos you can go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/corynn.....th/5504272675/

Posted 14 years agoDammit FA, why can't anyone tell me how to post pictures to a journal entry?
Also, how do you post people's little icons without their names next to them?
