The movie industry is going to stop putting out new movies on 35mm film, which means that any small-town theatre will have to convert to digital or bust. Spread the word! Don't let the classic film-houses fade into obscurity.

back from Break
Posted 13 years agoThat's right, I'll officially be back in Seattle as of Monday, Jan 14th. Back from break and immediately back to school.
Winter Break
Posted 13 years agoIt's that time of the year again. The semester's almost over, and I'll be on winter break from school. Which means, of course, I will be out of the state until mid-January.
North Carolina, here I come.

The State of the Roads
Posted 13 years agoI don't normally post journals like this, but this week has been so horrific that I thought it important to share.
People, be careful out there. November is the highest month for car -related fatalities.
This -week- alone, 17 people have been involved in car crashes in just in Western Washington. 7 people have been killed.
A Bicyclist is run over by a dump truck on Howell street. Link
Three people killed in Kingston. : link
A Prius takes out three people, including a 4 year old, in the U-District. Link
A Car crashed through a business in Renton. link The article states that 5 cars have crashed through this building in 3 years. How can people just let this happen? That is a sign that the road needs a redesign.
A man is run over in a road rage incident on I-5 LINK
A Bicyclist is killed by a pickup in Marysville. Link He was hit on STATE STREET of all places. State street, which is pretty much the main drag down the center of Marysville. That would be like getting run over going down main street.
A 19-year old kid runs a stop sign and crashes into a car with 5 people in it Link
Drag Racing in south Seattle kills two teens Link
This, this is why I don't drive. This is why I bicycle. Because stuff like this is unacceptable.

Today, I was called an asshole for being polite
Posted 13 years agoAKA: Those crazy cagers: one bicyclists observations on insane traffic behavior in Seattle.
I am a bicyclist. In fact, I bicycle a lot, everywhere I want to go. I'm on the road almost every day. This means I see a lot of crazy stuff happen on the city streets. Dumb car drivers, insane cyclists, dickish taxis, and everything in between.
Today, I was cycling along the "South Lake Union Trial," which is actually one very long parking lot that runs in front of all the marina businesses along Westlake. It's about the width of a street, with nose-in parking along both sides and a lane of travel down the center -just- wide enough for two cars to pass each other.
I take this route -a lot-, as do several hundred other cyclists. It's the only way to get from downtown to the Fremont bridge without going up and over Dexter (which is one -seriously- large, long hill).
I was coming back from Fremont when I encountered a woman in a large SUV backing out of her parking spot, blocking the entire lane of travel. Most cyclists would blast past her, but I didn't feel like risking getting hit, so I stopped to wait for her to finish backing out and leave. I sat there for a minute, safely out of the way, and when she finished I rode past her.
Waiting for her to back out was a small silver car, and as I passed he felt the need to yell out the window "You're an asshole." And my response is "what?" What am I an asshole for? For stopping and letting her backout without risking getting hit? For sitting calmly and not yelling at her for blocking the parking lot with her absurdly large car? I am just -baffled-. Apparently, no one is allowed to be polite on the roads anymore. Ever.
This, of course, isn't even the most inane thing I've seen in recent days. A few days ago, I witnessed another encounter at the intersection of Denny and Stewart (though thankfully I was not involved with this, I was just standing on the sidewalk). A large truck turned off Denny and onto Stewart, but the back end of his truck couldn't clear the intersection. Happens all the time. The light on Stewart was red, so the truck driver edged as close to the car in front as he could get, and managed to clear one of the two lanes of eastbound travel.
Most people, faced with this, would just change lanes and go around truck. It wasn't a particularly busy day on Denny. In fact, that's exactly what everyone did except for -one- particularly entitled feeling person. (who had Kansas plates, interestingly)
Rather than go around, they drove out into the intersection until they were nose-up to the side of the truck, and laid on the horn. What did the guy want the truck to do? He couldn't move, the front bumper of his truck was almost touching the car in front of him. Apparently, honking your horn can magically make red traffic lights turn green if you're angry enough.
And the final incident in recent weeks is the most confusing to me. I was cycling down 4th avenue. 4th ave is a 4 lane wide street that is never terribly busy. Most of the time, the only people on the road with me are some buses and a couple taxis.
This night, the road was pretty empty. I was in the right-hand lane, cycling down the center to keep out of door range, when I hear a horn. I look, and there is a jeep -right- on my ass. In response, I do nothing. Every other lane of travel on this road is empty, there is no reason this person cannot change lanes and go around. I make sure that I'm enough in the center of the lane to prevent the person from buzzing me (one of my biggest pet peeves.)
Instead of going around, the person chooses to follow me for another block and a half, before decided to blast past me ON MY RIGHT, barely squeezing between me and the curb lane of parked cars. And where did that get him? To the next red light.
I just don't get what about cars and traffic makes people so insane. People are flipping each other off, yelling, honking their horns. Heck, just last week a car driver -shot another car driver and killed her-. What is wrong with people? The more I ride, the more crazy stuff I see.
On a positive note, a big thanks to the Seattle taxi driver who said he loved my spoke decorations on my bike while we were stuck at a light. I'd had a bad encounter with a driver earlier that day, and that made me feel so much better.

Vanishing Photos
Posted 13 years agoI don't know how many people watch my gallery closely, but some may have noticed that many of my car pictures are going away. This is because I have been asked to remove them by FurAffinity staff.
Vehicle photography has long been a grey area on the line between art and "pictures of manufactured items." I try my hardest on every photo I upload, and only upload the very best of the dozens of photos I may take at a show.
To anyone who enjoys my car photos, everything that was on FA and more is also all over on my DeviantArt, which has long been my primary site. You can also follow me there.

Posted 13 years agoThank you to
dolph
keeko-chan and
skyan for coming to my birthday today. I'm sorry more stuff didn't happen, I hope you guys had fun anyway.
I went dancing at the Century and got my birthday dance. For those who don't know, a birthday swing dance means that everyone who has a birthday gets in the middle of a big circle of people, then they play a song and you dance with a bunch of different partners. One person will come dance with you, then another will shove them aside and take their place.
There's another dance on my actual birthday, Tuesday the 28th, so here's hoping that'll be fun. It's a wear vintage theme
Also, I probably won't be attending or posting much on Furlife anymore. The only sort of thing I'll get to now is maybe some fursuiting outings if they're nearby.
On that note, if there's anybody out there who likes to bicycle or swing dance or hit up car shows or go to plays, I'm always doing that and more.

Oldest Movie Theatres in Washington face closure
Posted 13 years agohttp://www.arlingtontimes.com/news/150605895.html
The Olympic Theatre in my hometown was built in 1939, and is one of the oldest operating movie theatres in the state. It's also the only movie theatre I ever attend, partially because of the cheap ticket prices ( $7 normally, $4.50 for weekend matinees, and $3 on Two-for-one Tuesday) and partially because of the friendly atmosphere.
But now major film studios are talking about ceasing to put out movies on 35mm film and only distributing them digitally. This means that the Olympic, and every other small-town movie theatre in the country, will have to either make the switch to digital, or close down.
I'm not sure what to we can do about it, but I think people at least need to know. I'm hoping that some solution will be found, I can't imagine going to see a movie at any theatre besides the Olympic.

When are you arriving?
Thursday night
Where are you staying?
In my dorm room down the street. :U
Who are you rooming with?
Maybe
forceuser and
koohiimonsutaa
Will you be cosplaying?
No. :c Didn’t have enough time for cosplay. Instead, shall be in one of my fursuits.
How can I find you?
I’ll be in fursuit. I shouldn’t be terribly difficult to spot.
Will you be attending/running any panels?
No idea. We’ll see what panels happen.
Do you do art commissions?
Indeed I do. Only digital shit though, since I won’t be carrying around my markers or colored pencils.
Can I take pictures of you?
Of course. :D
Are you attending the raves?
We’ll see. I probably will, but you’ll have to really flag me down, I’ll have headphones in.
Can I buy you drinks?
On if it’s soda. :3
Are you Friendly?
Of course :D
Can I hug you?
Hugs: yes. Glomps: no.
Any other con plans?
. . .nope, not really. Just gonna hang out with people.
I'll probably just be wandering around the con, talking to people and posing and drawing.

Swing you Hepcats, Swing
Posted 13 years agoDancing tonight was so awesome I just had to post about it. I've been trying to get back in the dancing groove since being gone all Winter Break (I wimped out last week, and tripped over my own feet all night the week before), but boy am I glad I decided to man up and go out dancing tonight.
What really got me back out on the floor was the music tonight. An awesome mix of slow tunes, and, get this, Fifties Rock and Roll. Now that's what I'm talkin' about. I got to dance to Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, and all the others. I even managed to take one of the best follows in the place out to swing to "That'll Be the Day" (boy do I love that song) and managed to pull off 8-count moves without looking like a total ass.
And woo, the party rocked all night. I cut out after the Shim Sham, but I really busted a move. Danced with some new chicks, and reconnected with some regulars. Even got to try out my new black jeans. :D (totally keeping the look. I think I pull off all black with a colorful neck scarf well. A girl even told me that my red ascot was cute. >w< )
So cannot wait for next week. Free movie, then dancing all night. I LOVE the Century Ballroom.

Asexuals, and the TV show "House"
Posted 14 years agoGoddammit, Fox. Can't do anything without screwing it up.
Now, I don't watch House. Never did. (I like my shows with cars) But I know there's a whole lot of people that do. Apparently, this week's episode was about an Asexual couple. And, this being a medical drama, they had to come up with a medical reason that somebody could *gasp* actually not want to have sex.
Read more about it here: http://club-of-aces.deviantart.com/.....ouse-281550367 on Deviantart.
A couple quotes for those too lazy to click.
"Dr. Wilson (another character) talking to Dr. House (the main character, of course) about a patient he had who claimed to be asexual. Not only that: the patient was conventionally attractive, well-adjusted, and even happily married to another ace (how's that for defying stereotypes?). House was extremely skeptical--okay, that's a bit of an understatement--and bet Wilson $100 that he could prove there was a 'reason' for the couple's asexuality.
The asexuality storyline . . . was handled pretty well through most of the episode. But then, at the eleventh hour, it took a nosedive...
You see, House always has to be right. And as House always has to be right, he had to find a medical cause for the couple's asexuality. He couldn't find an excuse for the patient herself, so he conned her husband into coming in for tests by offering him a free flu shot. Eventually, he found a tumour on the husband's pituitary that was blocking his hormones. (Oh, did I mention? Asexuality was being represented as the lack of a sex drive rather than the lack of sexual attraction. )
Asexuality could still escape the episode unscathed, though: the wife still had no medical reason for being asexual. Surely she couldn't be pathologized, right?
Not pathologized maybe, but delegitimized all the same: she, upon discovering that her husband wasn't truly asexual, immediately confessed that neither was she: she had been lying to him for their entire marriage so that they could be together."
So, apparently Asexuals either have a tumor, or are lying. Wonderful. >:|

I hate Malls
Posted 14 years agoI really do. :/ They're noisy, crowded, smell terrible, and never have anything worth buying. And yet, I still say yes whenever my mother asks me to go with her to the mall. Why, oh why do I never learn?
I can find want I want within the first 20 minutes of entering the mall (typically in the movie store or comic book store), but my mother has to browse. Visit the clothing stores and spend 15 minutes in the underwear section. (God, good, I hate clothing stores the most. I don't care if they're in a mall or not, I HATE clothing stores)
We spent something like 4 hours at the mall. I spent most of it with a splitting headache sitting on various benches with my iPod turned up all the way to attempt to drown out everything. While my father looked through every discount movie bin in the entire Frye's electronic store.
However, for as much as today sucks, I did get a copy of A-Team season One, and Knight Rider season Two on DVD. So. . . not a total loss. Still, whatever happened to having comic book stores in the mall? D:

Winter Break
Posted 14 years agoYES. I am finally done with school. It is winter break time. AKA, ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO GET SHIT DONE. I'm hoping to get some fursuiting-type things done, lots of art, and lots of sleeping.
Also, to all my freinds in Seattle, I shall be gone for a month. I fly out today, the 18th, for North Carolina. Yep, the east coast. And I'll be there until January 14th. So sorry, but I shall be hanging with the N.C. furs for a bit.
See you Seattle peeps in January. And Here's to the hope that I shall get things done and not just sit in front of the TV all day. We'll see. . .

A bunch of Wat
Posted 14 years agoFinals week here at art school. So annoying. x.x Time for a bit of a rant session, and some cool stuff at the end.
-We had a group presentation today. My group is me, and two theatre students. Well, one of my group mates is all "I'll take care of putting together the PowerPoint" so I send him my slides and work on my part.
This morning, just before class, we get together in the school computer lab, where he mentions that the Powerpoint is done. I notice something odd and state the obvious "Do either of you have a laptop?" They both say no. "Well, our presentation has to be on a laptop to, yannow, plug it into the projector and present it." "Oh. Yeah. Damn."
The logical solution, of course, would be to put it on my laptop. Except that the school computers use Microsoft Office 2007, and my laptop uses Office '97. Not exactly compatible. . . Yeah. That's about how my day went.
Now for something awesome. Yesterday, in swing dance class, we went ice skating instead. So I got to take some video of my classmates attempting to (badly) swing dance on ice.

ORIGINAL CHARACTER MEME
1) First list all your OCs by first name so we can see your list of all your wonderful OCs:

2. Traffic Cone
3. Rhamphy
4. Blanche
5. Simile
6. Danny

–I’d have to say Saisha, just because she’s my fursona as well. I do love Johnny almost as much, though.
3) Who is your least favorite?
-I dunno about least favorite, but I don’t write about Betty and Danny as much just because they’re more background characters.
4) Who is your most developed?
-Saisha, with Johnny as a close second. They’re the only characters where I’ve really thought out their background and how it affects them today.
5) How many girl OCs do you have? Boy OCs? It OCs?

Killer Diller Halloween Weekend
Posted 14 years agoHad a crazy fun Halloween. :D
First, me and my roommate decided to take shameless advantage of the Monsters on Broadway even Sunday afternoon. (this being when the children of Seattle are invited to Trick or Treat at the businesses along Broadway) Rhamphy was a hit amoungst kids, adults, storekeepers, and well, everyone else. :D Got lotsa candy.
Then Sunday night I dragged
keeko-chan and
forceuser along dancing at the Century. It being the night before Halloween, pretty much everyone was in costume. (Which I was not expecting, I felt decidedly under dressed. ) Still, I got to dance with a couple of undead prom queens, several Flapper girls, and one smokin' Disco Queen. YOW!
Monday at lunch saw me take first in the costume contest at school with Rhamphy (What can I say, the librarian loves me) First place being a strobe light and more candy. I'm sure I'll find a use for it somehow.
Monday night was the best though. The Savoy Swing Club held a Halloween Swing Dance up in Greenwood that I just had to attend. Live band, costume contest, snacks, the whole works. So I went ahead and went swing dancing in fursuit, Saisha to be precise. (I hit everyone with my wings @.@)
It is unsurprisingly hard to dance when you can't see your partner, like, at all. Eh, I still learned some new moves to pull out next Sunday at the Century.
Hope everybody had a rockin' Halloween.
YOW!Monday at lunch saw me take first in the costume contest at school with Rhamphy (What can I say, the librarian loves me) First place being a strobe light and more candy. Swing Time
Posted 14 years agoWent out dancing at the Century Ballroom on Capitol Hill last night. Saturday and Sunday nights are both swing nights. IT WAS AMAZING. Awesome jazz music all night, lots of cool cats in their best get-ups. So much dancing.
I made a few friends, even. It's amazing how friendly the swing community is, even when one isn't the greatest at dancing. (like myself. >w<) Asked some girls to dance, managed to do the entirety of the Shim Sham Shimmy without hurting myself, and even learned a few new moves.
So going back next weekend. Maybe both nights. And every weekend I'm not busy. Because the Century is so AWESOME.
Any other Seattle furs that might want to go swingin' out there?
