frankly i've come to the conclusion that they're kind of a bad deal both for me as the artist and for the commissioner. it's very time-consuming and tedious for me to make clean linework and coloring look presentable and frankly i don't think the result is worth what i need to charge in order to compensate myself fairly for the time it takes. also, sketchpaints are also just more fun to do, and they often come out looking very nice for the price point, so, why not just lean in and make that my Style, for now

Posted a year agoI don't have any strong feelings about Dragoneer. I do have strong feelings about the circumstances of his death, but that's not unique, and I don't want to talk about it.
I have mixed feelings about Furaffinity. Its leadership and moderation staff have, in the past, protected some bad people and wronged some close friends of mine. Despite that, this website still has some sentimental importance to me and I'm interested in keeping it running, so I've subscribed to FA+ for the time being to help out financially with that. If you haven't already, consider whitelisting the site in your ad-blocker.

February + March worklist

I honestly thought raising my prices would net me fewer commission submissions. I got more. I got more, and they were all really banger ones. Choosing which ones to accept and which ones to reject didn't feel good. (In the future I may need to go back to a FCFS system.) So, I decided not to reject any of them! Last time I did that my queue took me several months to go through. This time around, though, I came up with the best solution I could think of: splitting up the workload.
I'm accepting all the commissions I got sent, but I've divided them up into two groups: February and March. The February group I'll aim to complete this month, while the March group will be completed next month. You can see which group you're in on my Trello here: https://trello.com/b/wdPZ1iPg/exs-commission-queue I'm not super stoked about the idea of making people wait longer to get their commission done, but at the same time, let's be real here: I'm currently finishing out the commissions I accepted in October of last year. Two months instead of one would be a huge improvement in my turnaround.
If you're in the March group but requested an immediate invoice, I'll get in touch with you soon to figure out how to handle it. If you have any questions, complaints, or want to modify your slot in light of this, feel free to contact me!

I recently passed 1k watchers on FA!
Quite honestly I'm not really sure how to feel. I think the dominant emotion might be skepticism, actually. After all, 1k isn't a huge number, and it took almost a decade to grow that big, and many of my most popular posts have been commissions I've bought from, frankly, better artists than me. I guess if I have to choose between underestimating and overestimating myself, I'd rather underestimate and be pleasantly surprised than overestimate and be embarrassed.
That said, I've had a level of success since transitioning to digital art and since taking commissions "regularly" that kind of boggles my mind to think about. I'm actually going to have to raise my prices and/or limit how many commissions get accepted per opening, if I have any hope of keeping up with the demand and avoiding these months-long queues. Those are, I think, good problems to have.
So, the bottom line is sort of what you might expect: if you're watching me and enjoy what I post, thank you! I don't know if I can even fully appreciate that many people paying attention to me, it all feels kind of abstract, but I'm gonna show some appreciation anyway. I'm hosting a raffle, with three prizes, and the link's below! It ends in one week.

MFF and slow progress

I am going to be at Midwest FurFest this weekend! (This is not relevant or exciting to most of you.)
What IS relevant/exciting is that I won't have my tablet with me (it plugs into my PC, my laptop can't handle it) for a week (I get back next _Thursday_, as I'm visiting a close friend for a couple of days after the convention before I fly home). So, that means there won't be any streams. It also means progress on outstanding commissions will pause for a week. ... not that I've been making fantastic pace with them anyway.
So on that note, I also want to say, for those of you that have had to wait a hot minute between updates or are still waiting: know that I haven't forgotten anyone, and I _super_ appreciate your patience. Whenever I set a goal such as "These are commissions to be done in this month or these months" I always seem to wind up taking way longer than that, and it can be anxiety-inducing to feel like I'm letting people down like that. But on the other hand, with every batch of commissions I tackle, I'm learning new lessons about how to manage both my business model and my personal work ethic to get things done and make the process smoother and more enjoyable both for me and for you.
So, seriously, thank you! For your patience/understanding, and also just generally for your frankly kind of shocking and overwhelming support lately since I started opening comms "regularly" like this. It really truly means a lot to me.

These are NOT first-come-first-serve. This time, I'm taking commission applications through a Google Form! Just fill it out and hit send. I'll leave the form open for at least 24 hours, maybe longer. If there aren't a lot of responses, I'll take all of them; if there are, I'll select as many as I think I can handle this month. So, the turnaround should be within the month; but, luckily, you'll be able to keep track of my queue on a public Trello! If this goes well I'll reopen next month and make a regular thing out of public commission openings.

So I'm changing the rules so that each bid within the last TWELVE HOURS of the deadline will extend the deadline by 24 HOURS. Posted 2 years agooouuuuuuffghhh FWA was WILD and so much fun ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ i basically livetweeted it on my twitters, but not everyone follows me there so i'll lay down some of the highlights:
— after a very rocky start with a freaky hotel room situation, i was adopted by Drazin and his friends, who, i can't stress this enough, were the best roommates and friends a bug/raccoon could ask for through the rest of the con
— the Moonlight Festival was VERY fucking lit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i saw so much latex it kinda made me jealous, but i got complimented on my kink fit (shiny spandex, cuffs, and some other accessories) which made me feel very good. there was music, drinking, dancing, demonstrations, and vendors selling all sorts of kink and smut wares. i bought a cool knife
— spent way too much money at the Artist Alley/Dealer's Den tbh 💀 i also had no idea during the con that the Artist Alley is,,,, like,,,, just a thing that any artist can do???? so now i'm like, well shit, i mean,,,,,,, maybe? sometime in the future? i could do that?
— met up with several friends and met several new ones! quite honestly, it was intimidating at first because it's like... you're being confronted with the real and imperfect humans behind these idealized fursonas/characters, and that's scary if you're not used to it or have unrealistic expectations. but over the course of the weekend i accepted and adapted to it all, loosened up and came out of my shell a lot; the vibe is just so much different in person, in a good way, there's so much more you can do, and now i'm like damn holy shit I wanna meet all my friends IRL now ::D i'm sad that i didn't get to hit every friend on my list that attended, but maybe next time
— took as many pics of/with fursuiters that i could remember to, and while i didn't run into some of the people i was hoping to, i DID have chance encounters with a few familiar faces that i didn't even know were going to be there, so that was fun!
— i got to observe and participate in some Funny Antics, nothing objectively super wild or even all that explicit but definitely more action than I thought I was gonna see 😊
i feel like i got very lucky with FWA as far as a first furcon experience goes. it was incredible, honestly kinda life-changing in a way, and my savings account is totally dry now but I'm already daydreaming about my next con, whenever/wherever it ends up being. worst case scenario, FWA 2024 for sure ::)

i do business mainly through Discord, for now! it's the most convenient and least stressful way for me to manage commissions and commissioners.
i have a Discord server specifically for this purpose! there are no join/leave notifications, and no usable chatting channels -- it's just kind of a bulletin board that you lurk in. there's a ping role you can toggle on or off, too! i ping that role (and only that role) when i announce streams and commission openings.

i'm going to FWA!
this will be the first con i've been to in over half a decade, the first furry con i've ever been to, the largest convention i've ever been to, and the farthest i've ever traveled to attend one.
this means i have absolutely no clue what the fuck i'm doing. as you might imagine though, priority numero uno is securing a place to sleep and eat and maybe even possibly shower.
so i'm just sending out feelers to figure out if any of my watchers are also planning on going in May!
