hey, watchers and friends!

i'm alive, as you can tell from the recent uploads. i've been.... egh. time's become a bit blurry lately. i've gone through several depressive seasons over the last year or two. i won't get into all of it here, but among other things, i've just been burned-out. i've grown... weary, when it comes to the art i make, and my reasons for making it. so, in an effort to do something about that and find the spark again, this is just a little heads-up that i intend to pivot my content just a little bit going forward!

here's a shortlist of what to expect on this page going forward:
- more worldbuilding, character-driven art, designs, etc | i want to explore eX's native setting, hash out some lore, write some shit, develop other races and characters for them to interact with in a shared canon, y'know, cool stuff like that! i've been doing a little bit of that already and have found it super rewarding and stimulating, so expect more of that.
- more aliens/monster/etc. and human subjects | truthfully i've never prioritized the label of 'furry' for myself; i actually like humans, aliens and monsters and robots and such, and anthros in about equal measure! so i intend to branch out a bit from the anthro-focused stuff that currently comprises a large majority of my content.
- eX will feature a bit less often in nsfw/kink comms | i feel like i've drawn a lot of this genre of image, and collectively it forms an impression of them that i thiiiiiink doesn't jive with how i currently view them in my head? they're an intensely reclusive and private person who delegates a lot to their lieutenants and automated systems while watching through a screen or from the shadows. so i plan to make stuff that's more aligned with that vision

none of these are like, hard

other misc announcements:
- itaku + weasyl galleries shutting down | i never use those websites, i have no interest in using those websites, so i'm going to stop dumping my art there. (commissioners always have permission to repost any art they get from me wherever they want)
- commission price/TOS updates | more on this later, writing this journal was taxing enough xxmxx most likely what'll happen is, i'll bump my prices for 'proper' commissions and be more selective with them based on what i'm wanting to/able to take on, while stream commissions will remain as affordable as i can handle and largely unbiased (FCFS or raffle-based).
- other stuff | i have a few pet projects going on right now too, including a website and more music

frankly i've come to the conclusion that they're kind of a bad deal both for me as the artist and for the commissioner. it's very time-consuming and tedious for me to make clean linework and coloring look presentable and frankly i don't think the result is worth what i need to charge in order to compensate myself fairly for the time it takes. also, sketchpaints are also just more fun to do, and they often come out looking very nice for the price point, so, why not just lean in and make that my Style, for now

I don't have any strong feelings about Dragoneer. I do have strong feelings about the circumstances of his death, but that's not unique, and I don't want to talk about it.

I have mixed feelings about Furaffinity. Its leadership and moderation staff have, in the past, protected some bad people and wronged some close friends of mine. Despite that, this website still has some sentimental importance to me and I'm interested in keeping it running, so I've subscribed to FA+ for the time being to help out financially with that. I will be picking comms, so not every form submitted will get worked on. I said I was going to do this last time I opened, and then I didn't and just took every submission. This time I'm actually for-real limiting my workload to a set number of commissions, and I'll be contacting those whose commissions I choose. It's not ideal, but the alternative is raising my prices or first-come-first-serve, and both of those have drawbacks too, so, we'll try it like this. Stay tuned for the opening announcement!

I honestly thought raising my prices would net me fewer commission submissions. I got more. I got more, and they were all really banger ones. Choosing which ones to accept and which ones to reject didn't feel good. (In the future I may need to go back to a FCFS system.) So, I decided not to reject any of them! Last time I did that my queue took me several months to go through. This time around, though, I came up with the best solution I could think of: splitting up the workload.

I'm accepting all the commissions I got sent, but I've divided them up into two groups: February and March. The February group I'll aim to complete this month, while the March group will be completed next month. You can see which group you're in on my Trello here: https://trello.com/b/wdPZ1iPg/exs-commission-queue I'm not super stoked about the idea of making people wait longer to get their commission done, but at the same time, let's be real here: I'm currently finishing out the commissions I accepted in October of last year. Hi! We're going proper-caps for this journal, it feels more appropriate.

I recently passed 1k watchers on FA!

Quite honestly I'm not really sure how to feel. I think the dominant emotion might be skepticism, actually. After all, 1k isn't a huge number, and it took almost a decade to grow that big, and many of my most popular posts have been commissions I've bought from, frankly, better artists than me. I guess if I have to choose between underestimating and overestimating myself, I'd rather underestimate and be pleasantly surprised than overestimate and be embarrassed.

That said, I've had a level of success since transitioning to digital art and since taking commissions "regularly" that kind of boggles my mind to think about. I'm actually going to have to raise my prices and/or limit how many commissions get accepted per opening, if I have any hope of keeping up with the demand and avoiding these months-long queues. Those are, I think, good problems to have.

So, the bottom line is sort of what you might expect: if you're watching me and enjoy what I post, thank you! I don't know if I can even fully appreciate that many people paying attention to me, it all feels kind of abstract, but I'm gonna show some appreciation anyway. Hey everyone! (Mainly people commissioning me, though.)

I am going to be at Midwest FurFest this weekend! (This is not relevant or exciting to most of you.)

What IS relevant/exciting is that I won't have my tablet with me (it plugs into my PC, my laptop can't handle it) for a week (I get back next _Thursday_, as I'm visiting a close friend for a couple of days after the convention before I fly home). So, that means there won't be any streams. It also means progress on outstanding commissions will pause for a week. ... not that I've been making fantastic pace with them anyway.

So on that note, I also want to say, for those of you that have had to wait a hot minute between updates or are still waiting: know that I haven't forgotten anyone, and I _super_ appreciate your patience. Whenever I set a goal such as "These are commissions to be done in this month or these months" I always seem to wind up taking way longer than that, and it can be anxiety-inducing to feel like I'm letting people down like that. But on the other hand, with every batch of commissions I tackle, I'm learning new lessons about how to manage both my business model and my personal work ethic to get things done and make the process smoother and more enjoyable both for me and for you.

So, seriously, thank you! For your patience/understanding, and also just generally for your frankly kind of shocking and overwhelming support lately since I started opening comms "regularly" like this. It really truly means a lot to me.

hi! it's finally happening! i'm opening for public commissions!

These are NOT first-come-first-serve. This time, I'm taking commission applications through a Google Form! Just fill it out and hit send. I'll leave the form open for at least 24 hours, maybe longer. If there aren't a lot of responses, I'll take all of them; if there are, I'll select as many as I think I can handle this month. So, the turnaround should be within the month; but, luckily, you'll be able to keep track of my queue on a public Trello! If this goes well I'll reopen next month and make a regular thing out of public commission openings.
