Upgraded computer! ... Again. lol
Posted 2 months agoAlright, once again I'm uploading a journal post to talk about my computer. Hopefully for the last time for at least 5 years or so. I recently came into a decent bit of money, juuust enough to finally upgrade my graphics card!
Mind you, the GTX 1660 Ti was pretty damn good for what it was worth to me. But with new games on the horizon that this card falls outside of recommended specs, or even just minimum requirements, looking at the Oblivion remaster... Not to mention ray-tracing now becoming a requirement for a majority of games, it was high time I nabbed a better graphics card.
So I did, in the form of an XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT! Much larger, much faster, has 10GB more video memory than the 1660 Ti, and the clocks are just... wow. XD
It also allowed me to once again break away from using an Nvidia graphics card. What with their scummy actions lately, it wasn't in the cards to get a newer version of their cards.
Being as my new graphics card came to me as refurbished, I'm guessing the shipping company weren't that careful with it. The metal part of the PCI-e bracket where it rests upon the motherboard was bent. So I carefully bent that back into place, and it installed just fine.
I had prepared myself, just in case, if the card didn't work, by preemptively downloading the latest graphics drivers from both Nvidia, and AMD. Fortunately, the card works and I rid of the Nvidia graphics drivers.
So, it's installed, and I couldn't be happier. cx So now, here are my final system specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
GPU: AMD XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT
Memory: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x8GB)
Motherboard: MSi B550-A Pro
Storage: 1TB PNY CS1030 (OS drive), 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD + 512GB T-Force Vulcan Z (Both storage)
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 650 v2 Full-Modular (Handles the new GPU just fine)
In other news, I had recently upgraded my OS from Windows 10, to Windows 11, given that, at the time of this journal post, Windows 10 loses official support from Microsoft next month on the 14th.
First impressions so far, I love my new graphics card. My old GTX 1660 Ti did the job well, and I'm proud of it. My brother will find a place for it sometime in the near future, its potential won't go to waste, I know that for sure. :)

Upgraded computer!
Posted a year agoOkay! So, it has been quite some time since I did an actual journal entry here, and my main desktop computer has seen a number of upgrades since the last time.
Either early this year, or some time last year, I felt the pinch to upgrade my CPU from the Ryzen 3 3300X. It has served me quite well, it having a vast IPC improvement from the old/ancient Ryzen 3 1200. But I now have something with double the cores, with hyper-threading still. The CPU in question, is the Ryzen 7 5700X.
I had previously been looking at a Ryzen 5 5600X to upgrade to, as a decent stop-gap upgrade, but saw a deal on the 5700X that made it a worthwhile choice. I had also went out of my way to get a motherboard upgrade, and RAM upgrade as well.
My new motherboard replacing the B350M-E from Asus, is the MSI B550-A Pro. It was an upgrade especially since I wanted to populate all the DIMM slots, so I got another 16GB kit from Corsair, the same model and rated speeds, granting me up to 32GB. I also got a slightly beefier PSU that is also 80+Gold rated. The Cooler Master MWE 650 v2. Fully modular, too. cx Great for when I upgrade to a more substantially powerful GPU in the future.
My brother had, since the time I had upgraded from the old Radeon RX550 to his old GeForce GTX 960, got himself a more powerful graphics card. His previous card was the GTX 1660 Ti, and he upgraded to the RTX 3070 Ti. So his 1660 Ti had inevitably passed down to me. The old 960 now sits unused, waiting for a computer to be put in. lol
So now, without further delays, here are my specs now! :)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X (4800MHz@1.35v <- Max safe voltage, I looked it up)
Motherboard: MSI B550-A Pro
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 (4 8GB sticks! Somehow works perfectly even though 4-DIMM single-rank says 2933MHz)
Storage: Same as it had been, 1TB PNY Gen3 NVMe SSD + 2TB Samsung Barracuda 7200RPM HDD serving as storage.
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (+120MHz on the core, +1200MHz on the memory, runs stable all the time)
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 650 v2 Full-Modular (Now I can finally only use all the cables I really need!)
So yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. While I don't exactly keep up with all those AAA games that come out these days, there are a few that I've had interest in playing, and been wanting to have a relatively good experience playing them. Currently waiting on if or when we'll see gameplay footage for The Elder Scrolls VI. If the Thalmor show up again, I'll be sure to stomp a mudhole in them. lol

Posted 3 years agoNew Computer!
Posted 4 years agoOkay, well, its not really a brand 'new' computer. But a majority of the parts I have in it right now, it may very well be just a brand new one in general. So, during the month of March, we had saved up enough money, along with getting my father's tax return checks, along with the stimulus grant that was brought on by the whole pandemic thing... we had the money to finally upgrade all our computers that we've had since early 2010 or 2011. Yeah, we've not had new computers for 10 years. lol BUT, overall we were able to finally get something brand new for ourselves. This was what I originally had in my computer. Excluding the ancient one I had that my old power supply destroyed with a small 'pop'.
Motherboard: ASUS Prime B350M-E
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200
RAM: 8GB 2133MHz HyperX Dual-Channel (Yeah, two 4GB sticks. -.-)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 550 2GB (plays my games like total ass, expected of a graphics card with no power connector)
Storage: 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
PSU: Thermaltake 600w 80+ White
And that was what I had since mid-late 2017. The original CPU back then was good for what it could do at the time. But as time went on, all the games being released became more power-hungry, and very quickly, my parts that I had, just didn't cut the mustard anymore. And the power supply in question that I had intended to make use of for upgrading to a better graphics card, it gave up the ghost. Very fortunately, it took NONE of my parts at the time with it. But finally, after all this crap going on, we finally had the money to upgrade everything. So, here is the parts list for my computer that I'm currently writing this journal on now!
Motherboard: ASUS Prime B350M-E (carryover because there isn't anything wrong with it at all)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3300X (I'm in love with this one)
RAM: 16GB 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX (Two 8GB sticks!)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 4GB (hand-me-down from my brother, who had upgraded to it when it was new back in 2015 I believe... He's got a better graphics card now, himself)
Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD (So snappy!) + 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (relegated to storage only)
PSU: GameMax 600w Semi-Modular RGB 80+ Bronze (currently experiencing buyer's remorse, I can't turn off the RGB lighting at all. x.x; Not to mention it has an ECO button I have to press every time I power off and power back on to get the fan spinning. <.<* )
I've currently got my CPU clocked to a static 4.35GHz at the moment, because when I simply had it set to default, it would regularly climb up to this rated speed on its own. And now that I've got it set there, I finally broke the 4GHz barrier on a PC that I own! This piece of machinery is absolutely beautiful, and no matter what... I will not EVER go back to using a hard disk drive as a main OS drive. This NVMe drive is beautiful. It used to take me over a minute and a half, two minutes at worst, to boot into Windows on the HDD, but with this NVMe, it takes no more than 20 seconds, if that! I'm gonna take care of this one. This thing is amazing, and I won't ever be looking back again.

manikanika has a free art raffle going on again, and I figured to give it another go again!Moving! (sort of...) UPDATE!
Posted 5 years agoSo, after living in this hellish trailer of mine over the past six years when it started falling apart, we're finally getting rid of it! Reason for the sort of part for moving, its getting replaced. Its being replaced by a new one that is in far, FAR better condition than the last one. So tonight, I'm gonna be poofed gone for a few days while everything happens. I'll update this journal once I'm situated in the new place and have internet connected again. See you all on the other side!
Update: We're finally moved into the new place! Its a hell of a lot better than the piece of trash we were in. Even though it has one less room in it, there is still plenty of living space. Speaking of which I'm so glad to finally have gotten a few nights worth of full sleep! We're still moving bits and pieces from the old place into the new one, but by the end of the month we should we well settled in!
