Posted 12 years agoI was hoping to open for a few pinup commissions, but jfc. i'm hating on a lot of my old work in here. most of this stuff is at least a year old. it's like, i wanna do new work, but i also need money, but how can i ask people to take a blind stab with me over it when i'm not even sure how it's gonna come out. I know it'll come out better than my work before, but still... ;___; i need to work on actual furry characters more often too. not everyone likes humans on her, buuuhuhuhuh..

$40 Soft-shaded Full Color Digital Portrait - 1 SLOT
Posted 12 years agoI was exceedingly pleased with the outcome of my latest piece, specifically the style in which I painted it. So i'm offering one slot for commission! The commissioned piece will be a full-color digital portrait with soft painterly shading and linework. Bust portrait with minimal background - a more defined background is possible but will cost more. Sketch approval is provided and recommended, but not required. Border is optional. Finished piece will be 8"x10" at 250dpi in a .TIFF file (or JPG if you prefer, but the dpi will be compromised in that format). .TIFF files are great for prints if you choose to make one.

Posted 12 years agoThought I'd ought to get around to posting a journal or something here, that's not just crying for commission money. According to the last submission I have on here, I haven't been here in... jfc, a year. A year. It's been a hell of a year too. Finished college finally - I thought senior project was going to eat me alive, chew me up and spit me right the fuck back out. We also moved this spring, to Malden, MA (Boston artists represent!), which has come with its own slew of problems. It is nice, however, to be right on the Orange Line and Commuter Rail (MBTA speak for 'i can take the damn train into Boston instead of driving in it). I tell you what, you adapt to the driving habits around here real fast. Also, I sympathize with how Massholes drive now. It's not just for the sake of being a bag of dicks. THESE STREETS ARE CRAY. christ on a fucking bicycle.
Anyway, whining aside, I've wandered my way back to FA. My ties aren't as strong with this place as others, since I'm not a furry myself but I do draw them. But I still somehow meandered back here. I blame
soapdish. The brat got an FA account, and I was like ...okay, fine. (p.s. y'all should check her out - she does some pretty bad-ass things with fursuits and digital drawings, and I'm proud to say I've known this bitch for ten years now).
I'm working my way to commission readiness, slowly but surely. I wanted to take the things I learned while working on oil paintings for my Senior Project and apply it to Photoshop. Hahahaha that only works to a certain point. I'm paying more attention to directional lighting, anatomy while still maintaining my illustrative style, and the actual brush strokes. Dowloading the brush set provided by Dan LuVisi on DA was a life saver in itself. I'm not good at making custom brushes, and he has some excellent texture and painting brushes in there. Hallelujah!
So expect to see a lot of WIPs and experiments over the coming weeks. I want to get back into the swing of things. Pin-ups will always be my one true love, but I also want to practice with REAL backgrounds and not just half-assed half-tone bgs. Keep an eye on my journals too, I might just offer a freebie now and then.

My best friend and roommate got her car towed thanks to a douchebag neighbor, and because it isn't registered (haven't had the money), we can't get it released until we pay for that, on top of towing fees. So i'm trying to scrape together some funds ASAP so the car doesn't have to sit in the impound lot any longer than it has to.
so $5 ICONS! These are pretty simple chibi portraits done in a desaturated version of your character's color palette! I'm opening 3 slots to be finished by 12am EST TONIGHT. I do ask for payment upfront, but they will be finished within the next few hours.

Kinda wish I had a reason to be excited about it. I think once you hit 25, there aren't any ages left to look forward to. And it just reminds me of how so not mature I am despite my age (which bothers me from time to time). Meh.
And I get to spend the morning hauling my ass up at ass o'clock in the morning for a donut shift, just to get to be told all morning everything I do wrong and how bad I am at my job. IF I'M SO BAD AT IT, BITCH, THEN STOP SCHEDULING ME FOR IT. You don't get to shake your finger at me, then keep scheduling me for it so you can continue to do so. I'm so fucking close to walking out of that shithole.
Goodie fucking gumdrops.
On the up side, Silvie's coming up tomorrow, and gaming on Saturday, so i AM excited about that. Fuck working on Saturday, I'm calling out sick, and they can kiss my lily white Irish ass.

So I've decided to open up one of my favorite style of pieces to do - mixed media portraits! YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO REQUEST CHRISTMAS THEMES IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO. You'll still get the price. :3 I'll only be opening a handful of these at a time. But no worries if they fill up, I'll reopen them once pieces are finished and a slot frees up.
These will be available from 11/12 til 12/17 to ensure you receive your work in time for Christmas (to guarantee this, if a piece cannot be completed by Dec 24th, you will be refunded 1/2 the total price).

9x12" Traditional Mixed Media Portraits
I'm really excited to offer these. They're a lot of fun to do and they look great! And the original pieces will be mailed straight to the customer in a protective sleeve (matting and mounting is also available for an extra fee, but no framing, sorry). These usually consist of colored pencil, ink pencil, gouache, ink, gold leaf, and oil pastels (thinned with mineral spirits). Gold leaf (technically called liquid gold) is available in Classic Gold, Renaissance Gold, Silver and Pewter - you can request one or leave it to me.
Matting will be done with a single matt (you can ask about a double matt if you prefer) of a coordinating color and mounted on museum board with linen tape - all materials are archival quality and will not damage the piece over time. THIS IS OPTIONAL - you do not have to go that route if you don't want to, I'm just offering it because it gives the piece a very clean and professional presentation and looks wonderful in a frame.
These are portrait-style only (for now) with no background besides a single color choice.

These would be really good as gifts - the pages are pretty hefty in weight so they'd go well with sketching and inking, maybe markers, light scrapbooking, and such.
These can be done either on just the front or the front and back. Materials can include but are not limited to colored pencil, ink pencil, oil pastels thinned with mineral spirits, gouache, light ink (no watercolors or anything else water-based - i don't think they can hold up to washes).
Generally these would be limited to portrait or half-body (to the hips), one character only per cover (so if you do a double, you can get two characters, one for each cover).

Front & Back: $50
Shipping: $7 Domestic - note me if you are outside the US, the price may change.

Suggestions for commission specials?
Posted 14 years agoSo I'm already thinking about what to do for Christmas, since it's next month. I'd like to open a special commission or two in honor of the holidays! (and to earn me a little more cash toward my own present - a new tattoo!)
I have one or two things in mind, but I think I'd really like to know what my fellow artists like to do and what my watchers and clients would like to see me offer! If y'all could shoot some ideas my way in the comments (or in a note if you're so inclined), i'd really appreciate it. :3
I plan on opening Christmas commissions on Sunday, November 13th, to run until Sunday, December 18th (maybe a couple days extra if i have the free slots and time available). ALL COMMISSIONS WILL BE COMPLETED BEFORE CHRISTMAS. If something awful happens and I'm not able to complete any commission before 11:59PM EST on Dec 24th, those commissions will be refunded 50%. No point in getting a Christmas commission that can't be delivered in time for Christmas, right?

Posted 14 years agoSeriously. A nor'easter on Halloween weekend. Not only that but it was a nor'easter so early in the season and yet it KICKED OUR ASS on a January-weather level. WHAT. THE. FUCK. And here I heard we were gonna have a mild winter. :/ Idk anymore.
Got out to my car last night after work and was clearing off the snow with my sleeve (cuz lol i don't have my scraper in the car). I happened to look up at the sky over toward the northeast corner of the parking lot and suddenly saw the whole sky light up like lightning had struck. I found where the transformer had blown, because it was showering sparks like crazy. D: I was so glad to get home and discover we had power (ended up losing it about 11 o clock, but got it back around 4 am the next morning - fucking fire alarm screeched and woke me up).
It's cold out now. But I have a warm kitten on my lap and that makes the snow more bearable. Hope everyone else is safe and sound!

So I'm offering $25 calavera portrait commissions! Couples are $40 ($10 off!) - sorry, no more than two.

Posted 14 years agoHey guys! God, it's been forever. I've been ridiculously busy lately with art shows that keep popping up all over the place (though nothing's sold *grumblegrumble*). And now i'm going to be even busier with a tiny addition to my family.
On saturday, I went to the local shelter to check out their "kitten shower". They have 200 cats in their facility, including 3 dozen they'd just rescued from a hoarding situation, and I wanted to go and donate and check 'em out. My cat Merlin passed away last october and I've missed the companionship like crazy. So i thought perhaps this was a good opportunity to possibly help out and adopt a new fuzzbutt (she could never be Merlin's replacement, and that's not my intention - she's just one more bundle of love with her own personality). Lo and behold, I found her.
She's 3 months old and a lynx-point siamese. That's what the lady told me, even though her paper says DSH/mix, and she certainly looks like a siamese and is mouthy as hell. I named her Freya. Timid around people, but she's warming up to me and my roommate pretty fast and she just craaaaaaves attention! She was one of the hoarded kittens (which almost all were adopted really fast). I'm hoping she'll be cool with my roommate's cat Peppo, who's a big soft pushover - she's retrieving him from her parents' house this evening!

My landlords are a bunch of pricks. :/ Oh and looking up cheaper apartments, Draco found an ad for an apartment in this building that looks NOTHING like our flat. and oh hey, where's our hardwood floors? where's our free A/C? where's our freshly painted walls sans half-assed graffiti? Screw you guys. Damn this 1-year lease.

Been super super busy. Started externship last Monday at a doctor's office in North Andover, MA. Worked 39 hours there (unpaid) and 26 at the Job From Hell (paid). I wanna cry a little. This is going to be a long remaining 4 weeks of this crap.
Sad thing is, i'd rather be at the doctor's office than at my paying job. T^T

I've seen a handful of people do this and I thought it was perfect for pinups. Elvgren is my god and Betty Page is my goddess. :3 Poses are referenced and inspired by the work of Gil Elvgren and Betty Page (consequently Bunny Yeager).
Here's how this goes. Check out here and comment there to claim a pose, then comment back here with references linked, color choices (read below) and what # you claimed (after I approve the claim).
These pieces are discounted as the sketch part is already completed and you only pay for the inking and coloring. (sorry, these do not apply to the 25% off sale) Fully colored, shaded, no bg. No couples poses as of yet. These will be done in lacey undergarments ranging anywhere from full teddies to cute panties and a bra, with or without stockings/garters. You can pick the color scheme: white/pink, all pink, all red, black/pink or black/red.

And I'm spending it screwing around on the computer all morning, armed with a huge mug of Irish Breakfast tea w/ sugar, and then I'll follow with at least one Clint Eastwood movie (I bought Dirty Harry and Pale Rider at WalMart, both of which I have not seen yet), registering my car, then going to work.
TOMORROW, however, mybestie beastie and I are trotting off to Portsmouth for the day. I love that city, especially the waterfront. Gonna do my best just to spend money on lunch and not buy crap. Already bought myself a birthday present (clover plugs from Omerica! squee!), so I don't have that excuse anymore. It'll be fun!

Posted 15 years agoSo the apartment I was trying to get money together for fell through - no cats allowed and Draco and I have one each. But screw getting rid of our cats! We'll just stay here then.. until I just can't stand her family anymore and I slaughter them all. :/ So I'll just put commission money (right..) away for a laptop. Toshiba has a Sattelite for $399! I don't have it upfront, and I doubt they'll approve me for their credit card (hah, which is 29% APR! fuck that!), so it'll have to wait. My current laptop's done at this point, so I'll just have to use Draco's for now and get more into the habit of traditional media work.
So yeah. the commission specials are still open, for laptop reasons now.
On the plus side, I got 98s on both my tests in Medical Terminology. Got another one Monday, and a test in Clinical 1 on Tuesday. and my grades for that computer class I tested out of and my Health Care Processes (that class was a joke) class are 86 and 92 respectively. Not too shabby.
I'm gonna go paint on sketchbooks some more..
