Anthrocon 2012 - a modest report
General | Posted 13 years agoThis was my first AC 2012 and I can only say that I enjoyed it. Sad thing though that my wuff wasn't able to come with me :(
The flights from Amsterdam to Pittsburgh and back had a few serious issues like delays, cancellations and overbooking so don't think I'll fly with United Airlines again. I arrived 2 days previous to the con so I had some time to explore the city. I've travelled many times to different cities the US but I fell in love with Pittsburgh and its people!
I didn't really planned anything for AC2012, except for presenting the East coast premiere of Bitter Lake together with Shay ( wolly )
At first the sheer vastness of AC and its con center scared me off a bit but after a day I felt more at ease.
I had a room on the 'Clockwork Floor' at the Omni Hotel and it was nice to hang out with some fellow Clockwork suiters. Also nice to finally meet qarrezel and Matteo and having a first try in my new timber wolf costume :)
I like the Omni hotel. It has that distinguished classic twenties atmosphere and the rooms are HUGE! :) Agreed, it is not next to the con center and yes you have to walk 7 minutes to get there but OMG the average lift waiting time is only 6 seconds! The Omni is in the same price range as the Westin and Marriot. Very recommendable!
The screening of Bitter Lake and the 'Behind the Scenes' feature went very well. Many thanks to all of you who came and watched our film. I would like to emphasize that without your enthusiasm and support a project like Bitter Lake couldn't exist nor would upcoming projects be initiated.
Soo…. and what about those Famous Places:
Fernando's: It is great what he does for the fandom and I think it's awesome what we furries did for him. Nevertheless, besides the provided dog bowls and T-shirts, I think the food is pretty plain and Fernando's Cafe doesn't distinguishes itself compared with the many other places where you can have a decent meal for a fair price.
The Tonic: It's a nice place: They serve decent food and a good selection of drinks but again I don't think it's very special. The main good thing is it's located very close to the con center and the main hotel, just like Fernando's.
Pittsburg is a great place for fursuiting and the people there have a warm heart for fursuiters. Well, at least most of the time. With the Clockwork group we walked to the con center a few times. A walk which normally takes about 8 to 10 minutes easily turned into a 30-40 minutes challenge to reach the con center at all! People abandoned their car, leaving it in the middle of the street -engine running and kids on the back seats- just to take our pictures. Seriously, If I could earn 50 cents per taken picture, I could turn visiting AC into a profitable business :) On Sunday morning we did a 'tour de village' just to take pictures at nice places. One of them was Pittsburgh's gothic church yard. A very nice location (check out lanovran's pictures) The moment we realized it was a Sunday morning and the churchgoers might not appreciate a spontaneous visit of wolfs, demons and dragons, an old lady came out of the building and hissed that 'this is Church property and we should leave immediately'! We managed to get some awesome shots though. Lanovran took a few and there was an other photographer as well. I forgot his name so if anyone knows where to find his pictures, please let me know!
Rain forced us to seek shelter. A city bus driver was very helpful in dropping us off close to the hotel without charge. Thank you sir! :) In the Omni lobby Colonel Drraer demonstrated that next to warfare and battle, he occasionally fancies a light dance. In this case with the very light feeted qarrezel See video at: http://youtu.be/oJdKpJtMH6E
I didn't attend many events during AC. I especially liked the social aspect of the con and I had a great time meeting friends and interesting people.
Thanks
wolly for sharing the AC adventure and being a true friend and pleasantly disturbed story writing genius. We still need to settle a little 'sword balance' however *rubs paws*
Was nice finally meeting you
qarrezel and Matteo. Looking forward to work on new projects.
Thank you
skynny and
manojalpa for organizing meets and photoshoots
It was nice to attend the Sofawolf party. Sorry for leaving a bit early :s
Thanks for the music
lanovran And thank you for your awesome flutework in Bitter Lake's OST
It was nice to hang out with
fangsy
aeto
kets
strifeb and all the other Clockworkers
We surely should do that music video once
skroy, preferably in Chicago :)
Thanks to all you guys who came to say hello, bought me beers, give compliments, asked weird questions, listened to my vague answers, made me laugh, cry and shiver and made AC worth every single minute. You are the ones that matter and for me you're what the fandom is all about!

Maybe the last chance to watch Bitter Lake...
General | Posted 13 years agoTonight we present Bitter Lake and 'The making of' on Anthrocon's main stage, the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom, starting 7:00 pm.
Now all European DVDs are sold out, there're only about a hundred copies left from the US batch and we have no plans for a re-release. So, if you haven't seen Bitter Lake yet or you just can't get enough of it: Don't miss tonights screening or get one of the last copies of the DVD at Furplanet's table in the Dealer's Den.

Labyrinths - Film
General | Posted 13 years agoMany people asked me about the labyrinth on the wall of 'Exigency'. Some say they've seen it before. Well you're very right: I used it in the trailer for EF's 2010 fursuit theatre: http://youtu.be/sDUV15pVnEE
The origin of this maze however comes from a short movie I made in 2007. I re-uploaded this 7-minute gem as I think it has an interesting connection with the furry fandom. It also explains my love for labyrinths and classic typewriters!

Further Confusion Meme... with a twist :)
General | Posted 14 years agoWhere are you staying?
In a way to expensive Hilton Hotel room (the cheap ones were already gone >.<)
Who will you be with?
A very awesome rainbow malamutt
What day are you getting there?
Wednesday 11th. We plan to stay a few days longer after the con so if you have any suggestions for spending holidays in the Bay Area, we'd love to hear :)
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
I guess with a lot of folks, especially with my mate and a few fellow film makers.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
I probably answer some questions after the first official US screening of Bitter Lake.
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
Oh yes! Keep your eyes on stage B :D
Will you be suiting?
I had no plans running around naked. We do that only in Europe ;)
Which suit(s) will you be bringing?
North and Onyx (aka Raden Drraer)
Do you do free art?
I'll sign your butt for free if it makes you happy ^^
What is your gender?
knot
How old are you?
To old for you I guess *nods grey muzzle*
How tall are you?
1.94 m. (six foot four) when I act normal. During cons however my length may vary between 0.5 m. and 2.27 m.
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'?
Love to be taken but only by my mate :)
Can I talk to you?
I'm sure you can. Just keep in mind that English is not my native language.
Can I touch you?
Sure, but avoid the sticky areas :)
How can I find you?
Try the bar...
Try the other bar...
Try Room 366...
Can I visit your room?
That might cause some serious mental trauma!
Can I buy you drinks?
Oh yes :D but it might ruin you!
Can I stuff you?
Now what kind of question is that??
Can I give you stuff?
That's more like it. Yes!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs are nice but don't overdo it.
Are you nice?
Mm?
How long are you going?
Way to long. I'll be at the con hotel even after the FC staff left :|
Do you have an artist table?
No, but you can buy my art at the FurPlanet table.
Do you have prints/CDs?
What about dvd's hmm??
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Oh, just say hi and I'm prolly in for a hug (as long as you act normal and smell nice)
Where will you be most of the time during the day's?
I'm a wolf. I love to roam...
What/where will you be eating?
Trust me, you don't want to know.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc..?
As long as you don't force me into anything and you have a good insurance… sure, why not?
Can I look in your sketchbook?
I don't sketch but if I did, I don't think you want to look at my scribbles...
Can I take your picture?
If you feel the artistic urge of photographic expression: sure, go ahead :)

FILM LOCATION NEEDED! - Can you help a furry movie project?
General | Posted 14 years agoCurrently I'm working on a new short furry movie project.
It's not the succession of Bitter Lake (yet) or another Room 366 music video. This is just a small 'in-between' project. Nevertheless: it will be something very interesting :)
For this film we need an abandoned mansion, warehouse, factory, castle or something comparable. It's no problem if it's a murky or grungy place. We actually like it that way!
Finding a place like that might sound simple but there are a few catches:
- Location: Netherlands - Belgium - midwest Germany.
- 2 shooting days planned in February or March
- It's absolutely necessary that we can use this location with permission of the owner. So no fenced urbex locations please.
- We need 400V. power current (or the permission to use a generator) on site for lighting purposes.
- We have a filmcrew of about 10 persons from the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, the UK and Belgium, so a cheap hotel or accommodation nearby is desirable.
Can you provide -or do you know- such a place and would you like to be involved in serious furry film making? Than I would LOVE to hear from you!
Send me a note or write me a mail: ez_wolf at yahoo.com
Thank you so much! :)

A closer look into Room 366
General | Posted 14 years agoHello everybody,
For those who have been linked to this journal and don't know who I am: I am EZwolf and shooting films is both my passion and my profession. Amongst other productions, I'm also the one responsible for the (in)famous "Room 366" music video that has been going around on twitter lately.
48 hours after my music video leaked into public I think it's time to speak out about it. I can honestly say that at first I panicked a little when I heard the video went viral. It was originally only supposed to be shared among those who took part in it, after all. That panic however quickly changed into utter amazement: Amazement about how quick it spread, the amount of re-posts, and the number of views but sadly also about the rather hostile comments it got.
Some of the assumptions that were made about what this video really is about and why it was made, are quite telling about what is going on in some of the viewer's heads. People jumped to the most outrageous conclusions but I didn't see many who actually got it right.
So let me tell you what it is really all about!
"Room 366" is a spin-off project from a series of very appreciated and fun room parties held at different cons in Europe. The kind of room parties we all enjoy every now and then: A meeting with friends - nothing particularly raunchy. On a whim we decided to do a music video during this year's EF and share it amongst those that participated as a private video on YouTube.
It was supposed to be a parody of your typical run-off-the-mill pop music video, and we did not think much of it. Pick any random R'n'B song and you'll see considerably more booty being shaken than in Room 366. I consider it to fit perfectly within the limits of community and society standards - if you don't mind the costumes. This video shows nothing new. After all; It’s just fursuiters dancing, posing and cuddling. Attend any furcon and you see just this. Attend any regular dance party and you see people doing just this, only more poorly dressed. Youtube is already full of that, and unless you're new to the internet, you will know where to find much more offensive stuff. Seriously, if you really thought this video is a documentary about furry sex, take your mind out of the gutter and stop fantasizing!
The shit hit the fan however, when one of the participants posted the link here on FA. He took it down after about a minute when he realized he had accidentally published a private video. Unfortunately however that was enough to let the genie out of the bottle….
So, amongst the millions of hard core porn images on FA, suddenly a slightly suggestive dance video appeared in which actually NOTHING happens besides some fursuiters having fun together … and OMG, suddenly it was all over Twitter, Youtube and many more obscure communities not worth mentioning.
So, did it cause a lot of drama? It depends on your point of view…. Of course, the R366 video is an easy target for lonely trolls desperately seeking attention. Well, let the poor bastards have their fun. But it was also encouraging to see how many people actually enjoyed our video - far more than we would have expected.
And how did things turn out for me? Well, I got over 650 messages during the last 48 hours, and in some of them I'm being accused of deliberately having leaked this video for self promotion purposes. Believe me; promotion is fine, but if your main business is corporate video and your hobby is coming up with furry features, being "promoted" through 4chan is the last thing you want, thank you very much!
I'm absolutely not happy with the way this went public and I never intended to create such a fuss about it… but now it's out and I have to deal with it. I have no problem saying: I'm proud of this video, the work of everybody involved in the production, and especially the fursuiters who took part in it. You guys ROCK, no matter what!!
At this point, I want to stress that everyone involved unanimously agreed that we would share this video only amongst ourselves through an unlisted youtube upload. Looking back at what happened, it may be arguable if that was the best decision, but absolutely nothing during this production happened without the consent of the participants.
To all the people that keep re-uploading it: I probably don't have to tell you that you have no legal right to do so! But seeing the video gets hundreds of positive comments, and knowing that it's pointless to even try getting a video off the net once it went viral, let's just leave it like it is. [EDIT: I had some versions removed from Youtube though. I'm sure the folks that uploaded them know why]
To the thousands of furs who responded positive on this video trough FA, Twitter, YouTube and DM's I'd like to say: Thank you! You keep me and my friends motivated to make art the way we like it. I salute you!
Yours sincerely,
EZwolf

Yours sincerely,
EZwolf
Bitter Lake got premiered on EF - Info about DVD release
General | Posted 14 years agoAfter many months of hard work we had the European premiere of our movie project 'Bitter Lake' on Eurofurence.
I really have to say that I had no idea what to expect. Releasing the trailer created high expectations in the fandom which made me a bit nervous. Would we be able to satisfy our audience? Or would it all end in a muffled applause and people walking away shaking heads….?
Well, judging on the response we got I truly can say Bitter Lake was a bombshell! We got such a big applause, so many compliments and friendly words… I'm still glowing :) The run on dvd's directly after the premiere was an experience I will never forget.
Afterwards Shay and I had a meeting with GoH Jim Martin and his wife. Besides kind compliments and some constructive critiques Jim give us some very interesting directions for future projects. Directions we'll cherish and use well.
DVD sales exceeded any of our expectations. Over 30% of the EF attendees bought a copy! We're sold out now but BlackPaw will have them available in their webstore within a week or two so keep an eye on https://www.blackpaw.de
Currently I'm talking with distributors in the US. I hope we have the dvd for sale there very soon. Until then, order them from BlackPaw if you don't want to wait.
I'm looking forward to the US premiere of Bitter Lake. It will be on one of the bigger Furcons. More information will follow soon.
We noticed that the 5 huge Bitter Lake movie posters we brought were very much wanted. One got sold in the charity auction for €450 which all goes to EF17's charity project: Raubkatzenasyl (Shelter for big cats). One got stolen from the Dealers Den and the other 3 are privately owned. Many furs asked me about it, so my conclusion is that it might be nice to print A3 sized posters (16.5 x 11.7 inch) in a larger quantity and make them available for sale. Drop me a note if you're interested.
So, all in all the whole Bitter Lake project turned out to be a huge success and an experience never to forget.
A very big THANK YOU! goes out to all the people that supported us by watching the film, buying the dvd or in any other way. We could not do this without you. I thank you and salute you for that! :)

Bitter Lake will be available on DVD during EF17
General | Posted 14 years agoAfter months of hard work, we have put the final touches on Bitter Lake! Because we managed to do so, we have also made it possible to spend our time before Eurofurence to work on a DVD release.
We are proud to announce that Bitter Lake will be released on DVD immediately after its premiere at Eurofurence this August.
The region free DVD will be sold by Blackpaw in the Dealers Den at Eurofurence. The DVD will feature the full movie, behind the scenes footage and photographs and will be subtitled in English, German and French.
There are plans to make the DVD available after Eurofurence too, but details about those plans will follow in the weeks to come.
In case you missed it, Check out Bitter Lake's website: http://www.bitterlakethemovie.com

General | Posted 14 years agoWhere are you staying?
The Alcatraz Hotel
What day are you getting there?
Wednesday
Who will you be with?
A very awesome colorful malamute
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
I guess with a lot of folks, especially with my mate and the crew of BL
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Can't tell as there's no program yet.
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
Oh yes! :D
Will you be suiting?
I had no plans running around naked.
Which suit(s) will you be bringing?
North and Onyx (aka Raden Drraer)
Do you do free art?
I'll sign your butt for free if it makes you happy ^^
Oh, and there will be some private room film shootings. Very hot and very private (which means it probably will be on YT within a week after EF).
What is your gender?
knot
How old are you?
Prolly older than you are.
How tall are you?
1.94 m. when I act normal. During cons however my length may vary between 0.5 m. and 2.27 m.
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'?
Love to be taken but only by my mate :)
Can I talk to you?
I'm sure you can but please don't if your talk doesn't make any sense.
Can I touch you?
Sure, but avoid the sticky areas :)
How can I find you?
Try the bar...
Try Room 366...
Or: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKJRKgTBAPQ
Can I visit your room?
That might cause some serious mental traumas!
Can I buy you drinks?
Oh yes but it might ruin you!
Can I stuff you?
Now what kind of question is that??
Can I give you stuff?
That's more like it. Yes!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs are nice but don't overdo it.
Are you nice?
Mm?
How long are you going?
Just the regular days
Do you have an artist table?
No, but you can buy my art at some tables.
Do you have prints/CDs?
What about dvd's hmm??
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
I will have a large piece for the charity auction.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
If you act normal, don't spread a horrible odor and speak a bit Dutch, English or German: just say hi and give a friendly hug :)
Where will you be most of the time during the day's?
I'm a wolf. I love to roam...
What/where will you be eating?
Believe me, you don't want to know.

Bitter Lake Trailer is released
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://vimeo.com/24232957
Bitter Lake is the first live action full motion picture to be made in the Furry Fandom and is the second EZwolf and Shay production to date. Produced entirely by the crew itself and sponsored by Eurofurence, Bitter Lake combines the creative skills of a small team of enthusiastic and driven people and shows what can be done with minimum resources in a very short timeframe. The incredible work done when it comes to camera work, script and story writing, music composition, (voice) acting, art and fursuit building is something unique and every piece of the puzzle fits. Shot entirely on location in France and the Netherlands in HD 35 mm, Bitter Lake will premiere at Eurofurence 17 in August of 2011 and will feature an original sound track by Fox Amoore.
News on a possible DVD release will follow in the near future!

1st Furry Film in the making: Bitter Lake
General | Posted 14 years agoCurrently Shay (wolly) and I are working on 'Bitter Lake', the first motion picture ever produced by furs for the furry fandom.
We came to this idea after we did the fursuit theatre last year for Eurofurence. The overwelming response we got from our stage play there made us decide to do something similar again. For various reasons however, we decided to choose for motion pictures in stead of theatre.
So, what is this film all about?
I'm not gonna tell you anything about the storyline besides the fact that the script is written by one of the most talented story writers I know. What I can tell is this:
- We're very happy to work with a crew of 10 very enthusiastic / talented fellow furs from The Netherlands, Germany and the UK.
- The soundtrack for this film will be composed and performed by the very talented foxamoore
- All our character's suits are designed and build by qarrezel
- Shooting takes place in The Netherlands and France
- We shoot on 35 mm HD with pro grips and lighting.
- Premiere is on a 12 meter wide screen on Eurofurence's main stage, so be sure to attend!
- The teaser / trailer will be released early june.
- The filmposter can be found at: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5592966
And... YES there will be a dvd release including some interesting stuff besides the main feature film :)

Day Ten
Ten years ago I spend 6 months in a mental institution to get rid of a few ghosts from the past. It was a very hard time but after that I was able to start a 'new' life with less fears and feeling more self assured. I'm probably still a little crazy but I consider that to be a blessing :)

1. Tom: Sweet, bright, naughty wuff. We don't know each other very long but already you mean more to me than anyone else did for the last decade. Never before I was able to share so much with someone I love :)
2. Marjet: You have seen the darkest part of me and never stopped supporting me and believing in me. Chances you ever read this are very slim as you despise the fandom but I thank you for respecting me being part of it.
3. Bas: One of the best friends I've ever had, my caving buddy and one of the funniest guys I know. The world needs more people like you!
4. Shay: Wise friend, highly creative mind and most appreciated grouser, without you the fandom would be less tantalizing. I admire your dedication to what is true and rightful.
5. Ace: Energetic young friend and dedicated fursuiter. I respect your self-assurance and your open character. you're the guy that turns every fursuit event into a good party! Looking forward to suit with you many times more!
6. Stoel, Garr, WSF, Murder, Kee, Nym, Shiv, Noodles, Sheppy: I love and respect you for sharing the intrinsical part of your live with me. I feel honored to know you.
7. Nukka: Sweet cuddly big dog :) Actually you should be on the top of this list. You're part of my daily life so much that I simply cannot imagine a life without you.

2. I wish I didn't run away from my own true sexual identity when I was a teenager. It might have saved me from living a lie for too many years.
3. When I learned about the furry fandom back in the old days, I shouldn't be afraid that it would transform me into some kind of weirdo. I would turn out to be weird anyway *lol*

Day Four: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.
Day Five: Six things you wish you’d never done.
Day Six: Five people who mean a lot.
Day Seven: Four turn offs.
Day Eight: Three turn ons.
Day Nine: Two smileys that describe your life right now.
Day Ten: One confession
Day Two:
1. I live an hedonistic life style.
2. I quit on hard drugs (cold turkey style) at the age of 17. Never touched any drugs since.
3. I used to be a 'reborn christian'. Since 1994 I'm a happy atheist.
4. I realized I was gay at the age of 15 but it took me another 15 years to come out of the closet.
5. I work as a commercial photographer and film maker. Within 2 years I hope to make a living by doing only art.
6. I love caving.
7. I share the biggest part of my life with dogs. I have done so since I was very young.
8. I am not that self-assured person many people think I am.
9. I have a serious lack of discipline.

Day One:
1. You entered my life so unexpectedly and yet it feels like I knew you all my life. You make everything that was out of reach come together miraculously. I love you!
2. You have such a great heart. You are such a gentle person… Stop waiting and complaining… start living now! Life has so much to offer: Just reach out and grab it.
3. Dear grumpy friend :) We don't see each other very often but I love the way we laugh, argue, disagree, make plans and work together in a remarkable creative way.
4. The crazy one whose blood runs trough my veins and who I've never been able to meet: I salute you! If you weren't you, I wouldn't be here!
5. We had some nice talks together and shared a few secrets but it seems we are very different. No offence but please stop poking me!
6. My sweet young friend: There's more in life than home, work and the fandom. I tried to challenge you with music, literature, art and new ideas….. I hope you will be happy.
7. I've not been there for you lately. You two are building your own place and I know you could use my help. I'm so sorry I failed you.
8. Mom, back off!
9. It's OK if you borrow my stuff but after you use it: why the f*ck don't you just return it to my studio?!
10. Thank you for understanding and accepting me after I told you about all the weirdness in my life. You're a trustful friend and business partner.
