Posted 5 years agoI have my own police story's that id like to share with you for the moment. These story's may not be in order but they all took place around the same time when i'm in middle school.
Story #1.
One night when i was asleep two officers knocked on my door, my mother open the door. And the officers asked "ma'am is your son home? Theirs been a car break in?" my mom told them that iv been asleep in my room the whole time. and went to woke me up telling me the police wanted to talk to me. so i got up in my but my underwear and went to the door. next thing i knew the two officers grabbed me and violently pulled me outside. There i was, in my underwear, middle of the cold night, confused, embarrassed, being interrogated.
"Where's the radio!"
"What Radio?"
"The one you stole! From the car!"
"I dont know what your talking about? I been asleep the whole time?"
"LIAR! You know we can take you away from your mommy and lock you up kid!!!"
About that time one of my neighbor whos car was broken into came over and said. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING THAT’S NOT THE GUY, THAT’S A GOOD KID."
"Oh." oh. That was it and they walked off. No apology. Nothing for the embarrassment I went through.
Story #2.
Me and my friend were walking home from school. My friend was swinging this gold chain necklace around and got too close to the grill of a car and got it stuck. We pulled it up and kept walking. Suddenly two officers came and took us both into a building in separate rooms to interrogate me.
"What where you two doing a moment ago?"
"We where heading home and my friend was swinging his chain and it got stuck in the grill of the car."
"LIAR!"
"No. I'm not lying. That’s the truth!"
"LIAR. You two where trying to steal from that car! We got you on tape!"
"No. I'm not lying."
"Yes you are! So tell us the truth and we wont throw you in jail."
"But im not lying!"
30 to 45 mins went on like this. Back and forth threatening a 12 to 13 year old. Holding back tears and telling them im was not stealing anything, in the back of my mind. I slowly began to believe them. Mom came and got me and the officers said to her "Your son was such a good boy. He really stuck to his guns and kept to the truth." I had a small sense of pride after that. But now that im older. I realized just how fucked up it all was.
Story #3.
Im not about 18-19 and I enjoy going for midnight walks around the block to clear my head. As I was out a cop Pulled over, lights on.
"You there what are you doing out this late!"
"Just going for a walk to clear my head."
" would you mind slowly putting your hands on the hood of the car?"
"Sure."
I became numb to the whole experience with cops at this point. He did his usual.
"Do you have ID?"
"Yes its in my right pocket."
"are you carrying anything dangerous I should know about?"
"No."
Of course i got a full body pat down. Left leg, right leg, butt, groan, belly, back, chest, pits and arms.
after 30 mins of asking questions, pulling stuff from my pockets and paten me down. He let me go, I asked. "Was there something going on in my neighborhood to warrant this?" he said "No." and drove off. Leaving me to question his intentions.
Story #4.
I'm now a working adult as a security for a casino. I'm hanging out in my own driveway watching the stars. When a cop pulls over and shining a bright spotlight in my eyes.
"YOU Slowly put your hands out."
I do so, but now I'm tariffed but trying not to show it. You see a few weeks before, a police video circled around my locale feeds. It showed a car tipped on its side an officer walked to the car as a what looked to be a white male trying to climb out. And with out hesitation the officer shot him in the chest, causing the mans limp body to fall into the car. That happened the next town over.
And now here I am fearing the same fate. I did what I could to be calm.
"YOU! What are you doing out here!"
"Sir I live here. I just came out to get some air."
"Are you sure? We got a report of a strange man walking around this house."
"Well, yeah. I live here."
Luckily my mother came out and telling the officers I live there. But I remember vividly being terrified that I was going to die any moment now through the whole thing.
So why I'm I telling you all this at 2:30 in the morning. Because of the things that have been happening lately got me thinking. What if I wasn’t born the race I am now. Would I have been thrown to the ground and chocked tell I cant breath breathe like George Floyd or like Eric Garner. Or keep my mother from seeing me tell I'm in tears telling the cops that I did something that I didn’t do. Just for them to take me away anyway and throw me in a juvenile hall and treat me like a criminal. Or would they plant drugs on me when I'm out for a walk trying to relax. Or just shot for no reason for no reason like Philando Castile. I learned recently that in several black community's children are told that the police are dangerous and that they need to be vary careful around them because there's a real chance that they could get shoot and killed due to the color of there skin.
I do not want to live in a world where people let alone children being afraid of the people who are sworn to protect them. I do not want to live in a world where people live everyday angry because they feel like there they will be seen nothing more then what they are now. I do not want to live in a world where people feel like they need to watch there backs at every turn fearing the cops or there neighbors will kill them. I do not want to live in a world where schools are segregated everyone deserve rights to become more then who they are now. Succeeding or failing should be because of ones merit NOT because of how you where born as.
Now iv been a security guard for about 4 years before I quite. Now technically I was what they called "Guest Services." but it doesn't matter, we had security uniforms on and when people see you, they treated you no different from the real thang. Even though I hated my job I did everything in my power to treat people equally. Some days where better then other, so I understand some of the stresses that can happen. And I met some great people in and out of the casino. But I also met some people in and out of the casino who I think should have never been granted a position of power of any kind. Because some power can driver a seemingly good man mad. And its though one, we should all be afraid of.
Do I know how to fix everything? No, of course not. But I know that doing nothing unacceptable.
Black Lives Matter.
