Return from Burning Man!
Posted 10 years agoOK, returning GRADUALLY. Not REALLY back into regularity until the 14th of September, for now I'm off in Oregon visiting the illustrious sir Neidburg, and then I get home!
In the meantime, there's no way in HELL I can possibly describe the entirety of what it's like spending a week in the playa of Burning Man's Black Rock City. There were neon lights, friendship and inclusion, an AMAZING slap in the face (ask about my encounter with the Tiki God of Whiskey and Metal), laughing, shouting, screaming as the man fell, and solemn reflection as the temple burned along with the photos and mementos of tens of thousands of burner's deceased beloved. For all my friends who couldn't be there, whether I know you intimately yet or not, I left a piece for you in there as the temple burned away.In the meantime, there was nothing more affirming and pleasurable getting to spend two weeks with Kee, Paul and Caz. FIVE STARS.
Ok guys, be well!

BURNING MAAAAAAAAN
Posted 10 years agoOK SO tomorrow I'm heading off with my friend Kee to go to Burning Man! Not surprisingly I won't be around at all, for about the next three weeks (busy busy busy!) since I'll also be stopping in to see a great friend of mine in Oregon! I honestly don't know what I'm in for, but something tells me it should be a great experience. Living in the desert, sandstorms, 100+ degree weather, RADICAL SELF EXPRESSION and FIRE. I'm hoping I'll grow in some way or another going out there, or at the very least just have a great time.
Ok my lovelies, be well!

Leaving IMVU, moving to Weasyl!
Posted 10 years agoHELLO everyone! So with FA's recent transformation into IMVU and my initial distrust of the company, I think it's high time I moved to a site that ISN'T showing signs of imminent corruption and still rests in the hands of the furry community. I tried to remain optimistic, despite apprehension, when FA became IMVU, but their first attempts at advertising (putting down that awfully distracting IMVU ad, and the clickbait + potential viruses, spyware, etc) are giving me wicked bad vibes. Even though it took those ads down, seeing clickbait on FA speaks volumes about the kind of company IMVU is, and it was the nail in the coffin for me. FA SEEMS to be getting "dirty" just like Myspace did right before it turned into the sick-zone of the internet.
Anyway, that being said, I'm abandoning ship and heading on over to Weasyl. I MAY be posting there exclusively from here on out.
Be well, my friends!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEE (AND I GOT A FURSUIT!)
Posted 11 years agoWELL, happy birthday to me! To all of you who actually watch or follow me at all (which would be surprising considering how little I post), it's my birthday today, and it's a big one! I just turned 30! WOOOOO, it's hard to imagine I got all the way here 'eh? It's a good time for a little reflection, and the end of my 20's has found me in a pretty interesting place. I had my journey / attempts to get into Sheridan, followed by a little side-track where I acquired a Bachelors in English and a TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) Certificate, and now, here I am, in my first "semester" of complete, utter freedom. I'm not sure what I want to do, exactly, or where I want to go, save that I'm still using all this time to do some skill building. I'm taking my first ever animation course at SVA, and classes at the Japan Society. Am I wandering in life? It's hard to say.
That being said, in other news, I GOT A MOTHERFUCKING FURSUIT! Can you believe it? I've been wanting one forever, but with the tremendous price, and the fact that I wouldn't be caught dead in one that isn't amazing, I had the suspicion I might never actually get one at all, and what a shame that would be. Then, the other day, my good friend Raemuz sent me a link. At first I was like "Oh that's cool", then it was like "Wait that's really cool.", then it's like "That's... holy shit, I really love this!" and the next thing you know, totally out of the blue, the day before my birthday, I got the suit of my dreams!
The costume was made by jill0r, here's a link! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12662257/
I hope life is going well for all you guys!
Be well!

Guy's mom is dying of cancer, appreciates support
Posted 12 years agoThis guy
mushymutt's mom was just diagnosed with aggressive skin cancer and he's trying his best to help her afford better treatment and find a small place where she can live closer to family. When your mom's dying of cancer, a strong show of communal solidarity and support can make all the difference in the world, showing people what kind of community we are and restoring faith in humanity. So, if you can, throw him whatever you feel like, even just a dollar adds up. There was a great quote I remember once that said "No single raindrop holds itself accountable for the flood". I like to keep that in mind.
Anyway, send him some love and support via paypal at mushymutt[at]gmail.com, and if you feel so inclined, you can repost his journal, or send him some well wishes!
Best wishes my fellow furries!

stands for all things
even those things that don't flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary to reteach a thing its loveliness
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self blessing"excerpt

The Eagle who Thought it was a Chicken
Posted 12 years agoOne day a baby eagle fell from the nest and was discovered by a farmer. The farmer was kind enough to bring the small bird to his barnyard so that it didn’t perish. The baby eagle found a good home and, placed with the chickens, grew up believing he was a chicken. He waited for the farmer to bring food, he clucked when the chickens laid an egg, and he enjoyed running around the field and sitting in holes on sunny days. Life was good and life was comfortable, and the young eagle’s favorite adventure was to run under the fence with his friends to that cliff where they would gaze the mountains and dream about what lay on the other side.
One day he was with his fellow chicken picking seeds off the ground when a shadow covered the sky above him. He lifted his gaze and was mesmerized by the sight of a beautiful eagle cruising the sky. Unlike other chickens that he saw struggling to fly, this eagle needed little effort. With his wings spread wide, he could fly smoothly and change his direction with the slightest of gestures. “Wow. Look at that!”, yelled the young eagle to his friends. “Who is that?”,
“That’s an eagle”, replied a chicken. “He’s the king of the sky. But we belong here on earth. We are chickens.”, she continued. The eagle stared at the bird disappearing into the horizon as if it was gliding on an invisible path that only it could see.
Days later, the eagle was flying again over the barnyard and was stunned by the sight of an eagle running around with the chickens. He surged down to the ground and as the chickens saw him they ran to hide in the coop. He landed in front of the little eagle before it reached the door.
“What are you doing?”, asked the old eagle.
“What do you mean?”, answered the young one.
“What are you doing running around with chickens?”.
“I am a chicken. These are my brothers and sisters. I grew up with them.”
“No, you’re not. You’re an eagle. You belong in the sky, not on the ground.”
“No I am not. I am one of them. All I know is to do as they do, and to eat what they eat. I can’t even fly.”
“You can’t because you never tried. But you’re an eagle, just like me”.
“Even if what you say is true, I’ve spent my whole life as a chicken. I am not an eagle anymore”.”
“It’s the heart of an eagle that matters, not the way we live or eat. Come with me”
The young eagle looked back at his friends hiding in the comfort of their home. “Don’t listen to him!”, yelled one of the chickens. “He is tricking you”,” said another. “ If you go with him, you will die!”. “ Come back and be with us!"
But deep inside the eagle’s heart, a faint voice told him what he needed to do. He took one more gaze at the barnyard where he spend all his life playing with his friends, then turned around and followed the older eagle.
The eagle took him to the cliff he used to visit sometimes, where he would stare with his friends at the great mountains beyond. They stood next to each other on the edge looking at the mountains in the distance. Without a second of hesitation, the old eagle jumped off the edge, spread his wings and soared upward on the wind. The young eagle looked down the cliff and trembled. He’d never flown before. May be he would die. Maybe he should go back.
“Don’t look down” the old eagle said, “look up at this beautiful sky, aim toward the sun, and have faith!”
The young eagle lifted his sight up, spread his wings and leaped…
Back at the barnyard, the chicken heard a triumphant cry that ascended to heaven. Their feathers trembled and they looked at each other without exchanging a word. They knew they would miss their brother a lot. They knew that he would visit some day and tell them how it felt to fly. And they will gather around to hear his stories about the lands he visited. And for the time being, they would keep doing what they always did: living as chickens.
