Autumnal joys to all!
Posted 9 years agoHappy October, everyone! I'm not so active on here anymore as far as posting, clearly. Not much art to post anyhow, things have slowed down a lot. Life has become quite difficult, to say the least.
I'm still around though, enjoying your lovely artworks. Just wanted to say hello & wish you all a most pleasant autumn ^ ^

Mind-blowing films of the last couple years
Posted 12 years agoHello friends! Just wanted to discuss cinema for a moment. There's been a surprising amount of highly unique and inspiring film coming out lately, so figured I'd touch on a few of those real quick.
Last night i had the pleasure of seeing Jodorowsky's Dune, & I'm still riding the creative high. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxaXzxpKk4w
See it soon as you get a chance. I simply cannot stress how awesome & inspiring this documentary is, both visually and emotionally. Guys, trust... get some Alejandro up in your life (:
Oh & while on the subject of great films cut down before their prime, there's this other doc as well about Richard Williams' attempted making of The Thief and the Cobbler & it's subsequent kidnap/butchering by producer Fred Calvert. Not sure when this one's coming out, but I'm hoping soon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv33FDnRkn0
Also, here are a few others that I've seen recently & LOVED. Listed in no particular order, they're all incredible films.
Vanishing Waves -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQPFQuo_Nxs
Upstream Color -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdYO3KWmcv8
Holy Motors -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWu9WjEcdbk
I had a lot of fun seeing Gravity as well, and to a slightly lesser degree The Conjuring & Spring Breakers. All on the more popular side tho & have been out for a while, so i won't bombard you with trailers you've most likely already seen.
Aaanyway. Last but certainly not least, here's some that aren't out yet but i sure am excited for :3
Johnathan Glazer's new film, Under the Skin -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOLLKM7-lL0
Apparently it's about a sort of "Man Who Fell to Earth" alien (Scarlett Johansson) who preys on hitchhikers as she travels across the UK.
Not sure what to expect from this one, but it sure looks cool. Marçal Forés' Animals -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysX20MEkpF0
And of course Masaaki Yuasa's new animation, Kick-Heart -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW-o2mvSDW4
So yeah, that's it for now. If you've seen any of these movies, or haven't yet but are appropriately jazzed, please do let me know what ya think!

Goings-on
Posted 12 years agoHey! Just realized i haven't written anything up here in well over a year now. So figured i'd offer an update of sorts. Here's the short-list of things that have gone down since my last journal:
- Lost my job.
- Got into a car accident.
- Came out to my parents.
- Got a dog.
- Finally saw my sculpting work in a movie for the first time (Cabin in the Woods)
- Went to Vancouver (definitely highlight of the year. such a cool place!)
- Started meds reduction. As of this week, almost completely off. Feeling awesome & much more alert.
Oh! And more recently, my former boss did a sort of write-up about me & my work on facebook. So now i'm being contacted by all these sfx artists and industry heads that i've admired for years. Needless to say, i'm rather excited about this. Still kinda reeling from it all, but it's definitely lit a fire beneath me. As you may have noticed, i'm posting pretty regularly again & will continue to do so. Just doing my best to scan & clean up as much finished (or mostly-finished) work as possible. And quite a lot has accumulated, especially over the last couple years. I'd lapsed into a state of spaced-out irresponsibility for so long, i more or less forgot how awesome it feels to share new stuff with you guys. Reading your comments, discussing all manner of things... it effectively wipes the dust off my brain and gets me all that much more excited to work. Also, i figure what with all the recent industry contacts, maintaining an influx of new work is the best way of at least staying fresh in the minds of potential future employers :3
btw, i'm starting a tumblr for my art & photos. Got it all set for the most part, just been lazy about putting actual work up on there. Soon though! I'll post the domain once it's official.

brief update & BODY MUSIC
Posted 15 years agook so first off, apologies to commission folks for my taking so goddamn long. i've been having to deal with some recent issues concerning my present living situation, & it has required channeling most my energy into creature design work.
temporary setbacks aside, please rest assured that all is still well under way... it's just taking a little longer than initially expected.
thanks for being so patient! you guys are the best <3
alright... that said, LET'S GET DOWN!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, FRIENDS!!!!! (also, horror movies)
Posted 15 years agoHope you're all having a lovely Oct. 31st.
this holiday has always meant a great deal to me. & apparently my entire neighborhood too.
It's been a lot of work so far. I'll try & take some good pictures.
Also, i saw that horror films meme & wanted to share my list before the season is through. The horror genre also means a lot to me, as is made pretty obvious by some of my work.
So here they are:
1. Alien
2. The Thing (1982)
3. Videodrome
4. An American Werewolf in London
5. The Gate (seen at a very young age. scared the shit out of me)
6. Hellraiser
7. Poltergeist
8. A Nightmare on Elm St. (1984)
9. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
10. Gozu (truly amazing film, & certainly unsettling enough to be considered horror)
So if you haven't already, try watching one of these... preferably tonight ^^
& again, wishing you all a very happy Halloween!!
Have fun and eat lots of candy!!!

Commissions
Posted 15 years agoAlright. I've been putting this off for far too long now.
As the title above seems to indicate, I am now open to take on commissions for anyone that's interested. & frankly i could reeeally use the help.
See... over the past several months I've backed myself into somewhat of a financial tight spot, if you will.
So that and a fair few other pressures have been instrumental in bringing me to this decision (not to mention impending costume expenses).
Though, rest assured, this isn't entirely out of necessity.
One of the few things that consistently brings me joy in life is the act of creating artwork. That and sharing said work with others.
& Having been relatively active within the furry art community here for around four years now, this has been something I've wanted to challenge myself with for quite some time.
But, for whatever reason, i've just been too much of a pussy to even try.... at least up until now ^^
Honestly, I'm just excited to hear what you guys want.
Aaanyway, here's what i was thinking -
$40: b&w sketch - pencil & inks on white paper ($50 w/ gouache color, $45 digital color).
clean:

nsfw:
- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4653492/
$50: mid-tone sketch - pencil & inks on toned paper w/ white highlights ($60 w/ gouache color, $55 digital color).
clean:

nsfw:
- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1975512/
& in case you're wanting something a little simpler -
$20: b&w single character pencil sketch, no b/g - pencil on white paper ($25 w/ minimal digital color)
- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4655879/
I can either mail the actual 8 1/2" x 11" drawing or send a large file burned onto a DVD-R. (RGB Color file. 300 PPI. 20 in. or larger, however specified). Or i can just do both (:
Don't exactly know specifics yet, but shipping may have to be taken into account.
As for means of payment, i'll be operating through paypal.
I'm sure as this proceeds and i get a better idea of what folks tend to ask for, i'll end up putting together a list of things i usually have a difficult time with/tend to draw poorly. As well as things i simply can't/wont draw. but, just to mention, i work best with simple compositions and limited/muted colors (washes & such).
I'm sure many new things will be learned throughout the process, so for now I'll just roll with the punches.
Oh! Also, I'm going to be casting up & painting new copies of my "skinned" mask.
- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/367793/
Figured it'd be nice to make it available, what with Halloween right around the corner & all >_>
So if you want one, they're $145.
Normally, for a custom latex mask, the price would be a great deal higher so as to cover for materials.
But I'm givin' ya deals here!! IT'S DEALSVILLE FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!!
So that's what i had in mind. i sure hope these options are agreeable.
PM me if you're interested. Or if you have any questions, suggestions, etc.
Whatever you think might aid me in this new endeavor.
Thanks guys. I look forward too seeing where this goes.

grey sunday
Posted 15 years agoIt's been dark & rainy, thank goodness. Finally feels like October.
Though, as much as i'd like to jump right in the spirit of the season & so-forth, I've unfortunately been having to deal with a whole lot of bullshit lately, coming in a wide variety of forms. Everything from annoyingly trivial to dead serious. Sometimes it's bearable, but it would appear as though the onslaught is strong & constant. I'd say the worst of it is the undiagnosable eye issues. It's been about three years now & it only seems to be getting worse. Also, the meds i take to lessen it's severity aren't really working anymore. I tried to get off them, but even the slightest downward shift in dosage results in a sizable worsening of the eye symptoms & some of the worst nausea i've ever experienced. So I'm essentially cornered on this fucking drug that doesn't do anything but make me feel sick. I wish, at the very least, I could just find out exactly what's wrong with me. Even if it's incurable, a diagnosis would make all the difference. At least then I'd know I'm not the only one in the world having to deal with this shit.
Been losing a lot of sleep too. Or rather, it's like i've completely forgotten how to sleep. I'll be up for like twenty-some hours at a time, so my schedule is in a perpetual forward-shift. Possibly due to some of the afore-mentioned surmounting bullshit. But honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Happened so gradually, it's kind of hard to tell at at this point. Though, regardless, all that strain sure doesn't help the eye problems much, considering they're a neurological issue.
The anxiety gets pretty bad, but i smoke a whole lot of weed and it helps considerably. It really is amazing just how many dispensaries have surfaced around here in such a short span of time.
Anyway, i don't mean to be such a downer. Despite all these issues and setbacks, i''ve been producing a lot of artwork lately & i look forward to sharing it.
Staying holed up in my studio all night (stoned out my gourd) isn't exactly healthy, but it does yield quite a few new works.
This month brings with it an all-too familiar wave of excitement that hits me in ways i simply can't describe.
hopefully my costume won't suck again this year :I
Sorry guys. I'll probably delete this soon.
Just wanted to get a few things off my chest, if only for a few hours.

NY funtime
Posted 15 years agoThese trips back east usually aren't very eventful. But this one..... well, it was certainly unique.
Anyway, I just wanted to list off some of the high points (& a couple serious lows):
- the whole point of the trip was my mom's 60th birthday & subsequent surprise party. That was fun, of course.
- spent a somewhat boring three days in south Jersey (managed to hit a nice beach though).
- got lost looking for a flea market in Brooklyn. but it was alright 'cause we somehow ended up in Prospect Park.
- later that night, got taken to a crazy warehouse rave kinda thing with weird little attractions & interactive art. soon got quite drunk, wandered around, saw a little strip show, ran into Reggie Watts, wandered some more, did one too many drugs, & ultimately wound up making out with someone (which was nice, considering just how many years i've been trying to do so).
- awoke horribly hung over. ended up puking under some seats on the LIRR. luckily we were somewhere around Plandome, so the train was essentially empty.
- next day we went & looked at a building where a ufo abduction case had occurred in 1989. there's a Budd Hopkins book about it called Witnessed.
- (finally, day of the concert) - first tried to hit up a few galleries in Chelsea. but of course the one day we decide to do this, they had all apparently just shut down for installation >:[
- thereafter went & had some of the best prepared vegan food on earth.
- stopped by Central Park & started in on the THC lollipops my brother had brought for the show.
- after 45 minutes or so of being uncomfortably stoned on the subway, we made it to the venue.
- the place was a rather old freemason temple. 1907, so the cornerstone said. very cool to look at, but there was unfortunately no ventilation whatsoever. it had become a fucking sweat-lodge even before the shitty opener was done.
- halfway through Boris & Sunn's performance, the power blew out. took almost an hour to come back on, & when it finally did there was only enough for the instruments, so the rest of the show was played in the dark :l
- what with the wet-heat & surmounting technical difficulties, we ended up spending more time outside the venue eating ice cream than we did inside listening to music. thankfully it was a beautiful windy night.
- but despite various discomforts & the show going on way later than it should have, i actually managed to have a really good time. BXI was great, and to hear Altar in it's entirety was SO COOL. not too sure it was worth all the bullshit, but a fun show nonetheless.
- then, after a couple more days spent with relatives & such, we flew back.
So that's most of it... the memorable bits at least.
I guess it was a nice two-week jaunt, all in all.
Sure is nice to be home though. & just in time for fall-festivities ^^

Manly Pursuits
Posted 15 years agoIf you happen to be in/around Los Angeles anytime before Oct. 17 & feel like seeing beautifully executed paintings of men,
then might i suggest you check out the Thomas Eakins exhibit now showing at LACMA. Very cool stuff, & only around for a short while longer.
Also, i think it's free after 5 with proof of LA residence.
Perfect for anyone in the area who, like me, somehow managed to miss the Gerome exhibit at the Getty.
Anyway, just thought i'd give this a mention.

East Coast RAGING
Posted 15 years agoHey guys!
So I was gone for a couple weeks. Back east in NY, doing the family thing.
Super big thanks to all who +watched and +faved and left comments while i was gone. I kinda last-minute extended the trip so as to encompass a Boris/Sunn 0))) concert.
But, as it played out, the trip ended up encompassing a whole lot more than i had initially expected..... certainly more than i'd care to divulge at the moment >_>
So yeah, I'll have to cover the highlights later.
Just wanted to mention that I'm back.
& glad of it!
