Fairy-filled Childhood
Posted 14 years ago
My childhood has always been one full of fairy tales. I would often sneak into my mother's closet and "borrow" some of her elaborate shawls and bits of jewelry and roam around the house as a fairy princess for that day.
My interest in fairies really started when I saw the movie Thumbelina by Don Bluth. It instilled in me the idea that someone like me, an extremely tiny and rather insignificant person, could one day sprout a pair of wings and join the faeries as a pretty-pretty princess and be swept off my feet by a fairy prince. A few years later when I was seven, the movie Fairy Tale by Charles Sturridge came out. As a kid, I was blown away and it rekindled my longing for a pair of wings of my own.
Those ideas never left me. And discovering the Otherkin community helped me to strengthen my identity as the fairy I had always known I was. I've grown a lot more confident and am even planning on pursuing a life as a professional faerie as a side job to my artwork. Never felt better.

How many of you have childhood stories to tell about fairies? Any particular experiences, dreams (nightmares?), wishes, movies, books?

Something to Tide you Over...
Posted 14 years agoWe're sorry that updates have been so slow. Currently I am in the middle of buying a house and preparing for my wedding and
hifox is finishing off her final year at college. Because of that, no one has really been able to get the ball rolling again. Hopefully things will improve soon.
In the meantime however, here is a beautiful animation about 2 elementals to tide you over:
Thanks for being patient!

A Happy Little Update on Our Progress
Posted 14 years agoFirst and foremost, we would like to welcome all of our members- both recent and not so recent. In the span of two months, we have generated 20 amazing members, 2 affiliate groups and have already hosted our first contest (small contest with very little outcome, but hey). This is an awesome start.
Starting this month:
-We are going to be posting monthly stories similar to
. These will be stories about Faerie folk that we feel like sharing with you. As well as stories you, as members, submit for us to share. These can be written by you or fairy tales within the public domain you feel everyone will enjoy as well as give everyone a little insight into the realm of the Fae Folk.
-We are also going to be providing research and information on various Fae kith as well as other interesting links, videos, and other media for those interested in learning more about some of their favorite creatures.
-There will be discussions on experiences, your favorite stories and Faerie related characters, and general thoughts about the mythology.
We are still asking for submissions to be featured in the group gallery. Our goal is to have monthly submission features but that can only be achieved when you send us your work. Since we don't expect everyone to send us links, we are going to be on the lookout for work we feel deserves to be featured. So some of you may be hearing from us soon :D

New Group Affiliate and Admin!
Posted 14 years agoWe are happy to announce that
KitsuneArchives has joined us as an affiliate group!
KitsuneArchives is a very active group centered around discussing kitsune lore. Be sure to send them a shout and show their group some well deserved support.
Speaking of kitsune, I would like to introduce everyone to your new admin
Hifox. She is a close friend and sister of mine and was interested in being an admin for this group. Feel free to drop her a line and check out her gallery.
In addition to this journal I would like everyone to read our previous. There was some stuff that i would like more input on. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2483844/
Lastly, be sure to send us your submissions. We might feature them in journals to come!
Thanks everyone,
Rowynn Greyy

Plans for the Future
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone! Now that I have more than just me as a member, I would like to pitch a few ideas and voice concerns:
1. Over the next month I am going to be getting a contest set up for this group. We need an icon. The one we have is only a temporary and rather than coming up with one myself I wanted to host a contest for it. I'll post an official journal for it when the times comes. Let me know your ideas and concerns regrading contests.
2. Several groups that I've been a part of have a mascot to represent their group. Is anyone interested in one? If so, would you all like me to host a contest for that as well?
3. This group is going to start hosting member submissions as of now. If anyone has any work that they would like submitted to the group just comment here, leave a shout or send us a note. Unlike our favorites section, submission entries are going to be reviewed based on technique, design, and artistry. Extended info will be posted on this in the next journal as well as on our main page.
4. Where for the time being I don't have any problems maintaining the group, I would still like to have an admin or 2. If you are interested, send us a note and we can work out an informal interview.
So far this has been a really great start for the group and I thank you all who have joined. However, if it is not too much trouble, may I request that some of you spread the word? Mentioning it in journals and by way of mouth will help us expand even more.
Thanks everyone.

Welcome Fae of FA!
Posted 14 years agoA few months back I decided I wanted to organize a group here on FA. I wasn't sure if a Fae oriented group would work out when the great majority, in fact nearly all of the members are Furry (Hence, "FurAffinity"). Of course, to me, I see no real segregation between a Fur and a Fae person. It all derives from similar philosophy and there are a great many Fursonas that double up as a kind of Faesona when you get down to the heart of things. So, I decided to stop waiting around and twiddling my thumbs and finally got the ball rolling. And by "got the ball rolling" I mean my insomnia kicked it around 1AM and I had nothing better to do.
Being the one and only member currently, I feel like I should introduce myself: My name is Rowynn and I am a Fae Otherkin.
I hadn't quite settled on that until this year. I knew I was a faerie at a young age. My parents divorced when I was 8 years old and it nearly knocked the wind out of me and i became very bitter and cold. Later in life I succumbed to my own banality and ignored that side of me for about a decade or so. I started regaining my Faerie identity in high school but wasn't sure if I should call myself a Fae or not. In college I met a few people that helped me along the way and eventually it brought me full circle back to my childhood experiences, memories and identity.
I could go on, but honestly, I'd rather hear about all of you. :D
