Posted 13 years agoMegaplex was awesome and I'm currently working on editing all my photos from there. The photos can be found on my Flickr page (http://flic.kr/s/aHsjB1RvWq). I'm about halfway through them now. If you want a full sized photo without the watermark just message me.

Politics, Gay Marriage, and my quest to drive myself crazy.

Normally I don't like politics, but recently I have been getting involved in discussions in the comments of
CigarSkunk's journals. CigarSkunk's views are far far ever so far right of center, but that not really relevant to what I have to post.
In one of the discussions a question came to mind; what is the right's reasoning for the opposition of homosexual marriage. So I asked, and haven't gotten a response yet. However, I did some digging and found this: http://tech.mit.edu/V124/N5/kolasinski.5c.html
Basically it argues that a married couple are eligible for many government subsidies intended to promote the raising of children in order to keep the birth rate up. If homosexual marriage is legalized it would open up homosexual couples to receive those benefits, thus taking money from the state with out the state gaining any benefit. He also acknowledged that a homosexual couple could still raise children, but cites a sociological study that points out the impotence of having both a female and male parent.
This is one of only arguments I have found that doesn't boil down to "gays are icky" or "because <insert holy text here> said so." And to be honest, I think it has a valid points. However I have a couple of comments.
1) With talks of budget cuts and tax increases in the United States, it is very reasonable to think that these marriage benefits, with maybe the exception of social security and joint health insurance, would only go into effect after the birth or the final adoption of a child. It would save taxpayers money, and at the same time increase the amount of money many people pay in taxes, generating revenue.
2) While there may be an importance to having both a male and female parent, is that impotence more or less damaging then living in foster home after foster home or in an orphanage. Could having a small population of people raised in a same sex environmental contribute to the diversity of ideas and experiences in the United States? I think homosexual parenting is a very open area of debate.
Discuss if you want, I just found it to be a very interesting argument.

Who is Amazing Fafner?

He is not to be confused with Fafner DeUrsine, who is his cousin. Amazing Fafner is an enigma. His existence is only a rumor, and facts about him are only hearsay. What is known is that he is a black polar bear and....thats about it.
But there are some rumors, here they are:
Some say, he pees the color of blue kool-aid.
Some say he speaks five languages, but only all at the same time.
Some say he knows the direction of north at all times, but is always lost.
Some say he only sleeps in the winter.
Some say he can find his way through the dark only using his pubic hair.
Some say his bathroom looks like the cockpit of the space shuttle.
Some say he like the music of Lady Gaga.
Some say he can't understand the concept of high heels.
Some say he uses a cougar as his everyday vehicle, the animal, not the car.
Some say he once lived in an erupting volcano.
Some say his fur is bulletproof.
Some say he can be used as a floatation device in care of a water landing.
Some say he is Kaiser Soze.
Some say he can do linear algebra in his head, but only when using complex numbers.
Some say he is powered by a small nuclear reactor.
Some say he drives a Ford Pinto because he likes explosions.

Rant/Getting things off my chest/school sucks
Posted 14 years agoSo here is where I stand at the moment. I'm taking 4 classes at UCF this semester and not doing all that great in any of them. I have been in college going on 5 years now and I still am far out of reach of my degree. Right now my classes are sucking up all my time, and I don't see it getting better for the next few semesters. I am spread too thin, I do the bear minimum in each class because that is all I can do at the moment. I'm doing poorly on tests and assignments because I don't have time to study; and when I do, I have about the same motivation and interest in studying as I would in chopping my own dick off. With my degree (applied mathematics) I can teach or if I sell myself really well I might be able to get an engineering job...or I could go for a masters or PhD and remain in school till the end of time.
In short, I'm sick of school.
I went to college because that is what my parents wanted me to do; except I didn’t know the first thing about college, how to go about applying, what I wanted to do when I got there, or even what I wanted to be when I grew up. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I took up mathematics because it was one of the few things I know little about, and that was only after changing my major from electrical engineering to simulation programming, to physics. I got a relatively mild amount of debt my first year and a half at DeVry, and the state have been taking can of tuition since I switched over to state colleges.
To be honest I see little benefit in finishing my degree. I have exactly zero experience in either teaching or engineering, and with no feasible way to get any by the time I finish. I don't know if I would like to do either of those jobs; there is a bit of appeal to both of them for me, but without any first hand experience I don't know if I would really like them. Other then that I would be crunching numbers and analyzing data, which definitely dose not appeal to me. I don't think grad school would be right for me. Then there is always the degree in hand and the only thing I can do with it is wipe my ass.
While school is not costing me too much financially, at the moment, it has taken its toll on me none the less. I work, go to school, sleep, do homework, eat, and fail at trying to relax. I fail at relaxing because when I do, I feel guilty that I'm not working on some assignment or studying. I'm scatter brained, more then usual; I constantly forget if I locked the door or turned off the lights, left a window open etc.. I'm not the neatest person on earth, but recently things has been falling into disarray; I'm embarrassed to have this much shit lying around. My social life has taken a nosedive, I have very few friends I talk to on a regular basis anymore; mostly because I don't have a whole lot to say, other then bitching about my life, which I don't like to do. I think I come off as an asshole, at least in my mind; but I honestly don't have the faintest idea what people think of me. If I have been an asshole, I'm sorry.
I guess I'm writing this just to get this shit off my chest. Been having tremendous doubts about school, and the fact I'm not doing well this semester is not helping.
If you have any comments, suggestions, helpful hints, words of encouragement, words of non-encouragement, four letter words, pounces, hugs, punches, swift kicks in the ass, stories, or morality tales feel free to share them.

Now, according to the website, retailers lobbied congress to pass a law to regulate the fees involved in using debit cards. "As a result, you may see higher fees, fewer rewards and more restrictions on your debit card. You could even see the loss of free checking."
Well, that sounds like it sucks doesn't it?
Let's read the fine print. "In December, the Fed issued a draconian regulation that reduces fees paid by retailers by 70 to 90 percent."
So basically this means that banks can no longer charge whatever they want to retailers, of all sizes, to use their debit card system. I'm not an economist by any stretch of the imagination, however from purely the information presented on this website it sounds like the banks are crying because congress took away a bit of their profit. Boo-fucking-hoo
So this is a veiled threat to consumers that if we don't speak out to deregulate debit card transactions we will lose minor consumer level banking benefits....
I just have one thing to say to the banks: FUCK YOU!
