Pricing advice, anyone? Artists? Commissioners?
Posted 14 years agoI'm utterly rubbish at pricing art. People tell me my prces are way too low, but then I get no work and have had people tell me I'm too expensive too - so what's your opinion? I've got a basic price chart here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6506939/
Also, what should I be charging for this sort of thing?
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6592470/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7083622/
Or maybe this?

I seriously have no idea o..0

Commission list, lots of open space here folks :P
Posted 14 years agoMy current wait list:
growly - detailed colour piece - 60% done, currently shading
The rest is open, and I love having smaller stuff to do whilst I work on more in-depth pieces like the ones above. If you're looking for a picture, I'd be happy to take on more work, especially with the chrissy holidays upon us. I can always use extra dosh seeing as I won't be able to get a job for... well, months. A year, realistically, if I can even then! Moh well :)

Dragon headframe up on Dealer's Den
Posted 14 years agoAuction times! I can't finish it, so you have the chance to. I love carving foam, but furring does my head in somewhat, and I'm not really allowed to be near that much glue right now :P

Dying of boredom. (also, apology)
Posted 14 years agoHah. I'm sorry to have been posting so many commission-fishing journals of late, I don't like doing it but I don't really have anything to do right now!
In short, I'm spawning. Can't get a job in this... uh... delicate condition, so I'm stuck at home being horribly bored until he's evicted. Not that I mind, it's a very cool and weird experience and I'm getting quite attached to the little guy, even though he's inherited his dad's strength and seems to be using my organs as punching bags.
In any case, it'd be really cool to have more art to do, which is why I've been posting so much. The extra cash doesn't hurt either, but it's more about the work for me :)
I've only got two art pieces in the works right now, and since they're both in the colouring stage they're going to take a while so any little pieces I do will be a nice break in between colouring sessions. Until then, I'll slog on and play Skyrim XD

Anyone interested in cutesy holiday/christmas themed pics?
Posted 14 years agoI like doing themed pictures, and with the holidays coming up it might be nice to do some artwork of people's characters to help celebrate it.
I'd like to do pictures in a cutesy style, not crazy realism or anything paricularly detailed, but with a holiday theme. You can get creative with the theme if you want - think candy canes, trees, decorations, lights, tinsel, mistletoe, wreaths... Or just good old santa suits. I could even do your character gift-wrapped, or getting poked by spiky holly leaves.
These would be cute couple pics, or good on their own - maybe as gifts!
I'd do simple colouring like these kinda of things, a little shading but mostly just nice, bright colours :)

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5128745/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5080890/
Pricing - I'd think... $15 for a bust/halfbody, $20 for a full-body single character or two-character bust shot, upwards for more detailed stuff. Just ask!
If you'd like one, note or email me. These should be fun!

In other news, I now have a functional TOS. Read it - it applies to all my commissions!

Skyrim - the good and bad bits (slightly spoilery)
Posted 14 years agoAKA "My two cents: a short and shite review"
I got the game on saturday. I grabbed a hard copy from EB, and was pleasantly surprised that it was a WHOLE DOLLAR cheaper than the steam version, which seems a bit odd really. The funniest part was that it installed directly to steam anyway, so I kinda feel like I owe them a dollar, heh.
Still, I'm rather happy it did the steam thing - means if I ever lose the cd I can reinstall from scratch so long as I keep the cd key. woo.
Sadly, my computer is a five year old pile of poo so the game took a look at it and slapped on the learner plates - "Graphics set to low quality"
YAY. Weirdly, the game is a dead ringer for a slightly less chunky Oblivion at low graphics quality. There's a lot missing in the details, but until I get myself a new beast of a machine I'll be playing SkyBlivion. Moh well.
Gameplay... Actually pretty damned fun. It's more of the same if you're used to playing elder scrolls games, though swapping space and the E key for jump and 'use' AGAIN was a bit of a dick move. Wasn't it reversed for oblivion? I think it uses the morrowind key combo, which shits me a little because I always run up to doors with monsters biting at my arse only to jump up and smack my head on the ceiling before feeling mildly annoyed and pressing E.
The combat's similar to normal, though being able to see the monster's health bars clearly is a very nice addition, though dodging and moving about is a bit like wading through jellied poo now that the athletics and acrobatics skills don't seem to exist anymore. I used to spend hours running around like an idiot in the previous games so I could dodge around the battlefield like a scaly ninja.
My main peeve is the interface. It's very, very clunky. It feels far too much like a console to PC port rather than a nice, sleek PC beast with dynamic menus and good use of the many and varied keys on a keyboard. Magic is a hugely poignant example of this. As far as I've found, there's no key combo for switching smoothly between magic and weapons, and the magic menu is confusing and pointless. The way you learn spells is more irritating than previous games too.
The inventory screen is more of the same, just an endless list of text. Is it bad that I actually liked Morrowind's inventory system better than Oblivion or Skyrim's? You could see all your items laid out in a grid, which you could resize as you wanted. You could also sell as many items as you wanted at a time, rather than the 'one at a time' nonsense in the two latest. Bah.
Also on the item front - what's with removing most of the customisability from armour? It's just 'armour', boots, gloves and helmet now. Gone are the days when you could be wearing a piece from every set, including different left and right pauldrons and gloves. Morrowind was awesome for that. Seems they've also totally done away with polearms, which would really annoy any Nords I'd think of - no hunting with spears? It's a little strange, the item system seems to have been cut down a lot, but in the areas it didn't need it. Sure, you can still go around stealing every bit of rubbish, flatware (but not cutlery!) and clothing from someone's house including a cartload of perpetually-fresh produce, but if you want to run around in just pants, you're out of luck. Apparently in Skyrim, every outfit is a unitard. Good thing they don't seem to need to pee, or things would get awkward.
Shouts baffled me for a bit - The first one you learn is kinda cool. You learn the word, then the first dragon you bring down gets magically eaten by screen burn and you absorb its soul like a dry humanoid sponge. The soul automatically unlocks the shout word. Unfortunately, as I went arond learning words and killing various dragon shaped monsters, my active shout list never seemed to get any longer. I was stumped - was it particular dragons for particular words? Was I missing something? ... yes. I was. You actually have to unlock the shout words manually using the souls like some form of spectral currency. "OI, AKATOSH. I'm buying this word. One freshly killed dragon soul (your children are fun to kill, by the way.) coming to you in the mail, COD." Completely breaks any immersion from the whole 'mystical powers of the dragonborn' thing. Why they didn't just have a soul activate a random word when it was absorbed defeats me. Sure, it's nice to choose, but it feels silly and arbitrary considering the words you find are pretty random as it is. Meh.
Hm. What else? Stuff I like! Ooh, crafting. Smithing in particular. Being able to mine ore, turn it into ingots and make armour, trinkets and weaponry from it is rather awesome. Seems slightly hilarious that you're able to craft perfect "ancient" elven and dwarven armour at a shitty town forge with limited skill, but hey. At least you can get your hands on the stuff. That is, once I located a goddamn smelter. Took me a whole day to find one, and my pockets were so full of iron and silver ore you could have heated me up and made a rather fetching statue.
As far as the story goes, I'm slightly perplexed by the so called 'fall of the mage's guild.' A lot of what's happened since the Oblivion crisis seems to have been glossed over, nobody talks about it and you don't really have any idea how much time has passed. It seems like it's been a long time though. Oblivion had a lot of references to the Nerevarine from Morrowind as if it'd just all happened recently, but Skyrim's references seem to be to some bygone age. I suppose it fits with the elder scrolls lore and history that time jumps around like a hot rabbit, but it'd be nice to have a greater insight into how things tie in. Considering how in-depth the elder scrolls mythos is... Really, have you read up on it? It starts at the creation of the goddamn universe and has so much interplay between the 'spirits' (aedra and daedra, Lorkhan etc.) and how they created the mundane at great cost to themselves and all, and has a very comprehensive history of the races and beasts of the world. Very cool to read up on, actually.
uh, yes. side-tracked there... Considering the depth of the mythos, it's a bit irritating when it seems to have been almost entirely ignored from a historical point of view. Sure, there are ruins. Sure, there's a reference to the heart of Lorkhan, but it all seems a bit disjointed and hard to find, as if the designers just dropped in the odd reference rather than actually knowing the full story. I dunno, it's a very minor gripe and a RIDICULOUSLY geeky one, but I really love the elder scrolls :P
Oh, and giant spoiler, but also slightly irritating - Elder scroll = magical plot-solving mcguffin, as usual. FFFFF
Ok, I'm done. Heh.
... Art to do, then I'll go play more. Exploring Dwemer ruins is still as much fun as it always was :P
EDIT: OH GOD I FORGOT. These aren't Nords, they're munted Canadians. The accent is HILARIOUS.

Changing up character colouration. Opinions?
Posted 14 years agoI hardly ever draw Falli in colour these days. That's perhaps due to lack of motivation, or lack of interest in just drawing one character, but also possibly because colouring something in metallic silver is both difficult and time-consuming. It's either spend hours on one picture to make her look how I like, or have her turn out a sort of boring grey, which is what happens most times.
So! I've had a thought - it might eb prudent to give her a colour change-up. It'd allow me to not only have a character that was colourable in a fun, simple way, but also give me the opportunity to redesign a bit. I really do like how Falli is now, but she's not very accessible for art.
Hm. I guess I could make a new character, but I don't want to, Falli is my thing. Maybe just have an alternate colour scheme for the hell of it? I dunno!
Thoughts would be appreciated :)

sergals? Whu?
Posted 14 years agoI really, really don't understand the appeal of these things. Generic looking 'furry creature' with a face like a noseless whippet with shark teeth that got its face slammed in a car door a few hundred times. Is there something mystical that I'm not getting here? Is it because they're designed by that most elusive of creatures - a real Japanese person?
Totally confused. :|

Worst fursuits ever video still alive in spirit
Posted 14 years agoTotally... I was looking for the videos today for old times sake, they've been taken off youtube but I found that some random person posted it to poe tv, whatever that is - and from what I read in the comments, some people thought it was a serious attempt.
I'm speechless - from the very beginning we said we were attempting to create the most horrible abortions of suits we could, and people still think... HAHAHAHA
Oh people, your lack of brains can be so amusing. Also, lol.

Iron artist... oh wait, was I doing that?
Posted 14 years agoI totally was at some point! You know, I'm terrible at finishing things. I think it's time to try to combat that. So - I'll re-open the iron artist challenge! I've done a few of them, but there's a heck of a long way to go! The info from the original iron artist journal is as follows:
~~~
The themes I'd like to stick to are:
1: combat
2: evil
3: changing/modifying
4: bondage
5: overwhelming joy/bliss/freedom
You can be pretty creative with those themes! Normal commissioning rules apply, so no scat, pee, cub or injections. Most other stuff is fair game unless it really erks me. Not too much does that though :)
So, yeah! $5 sketches, and I'll put them on a nice texturey background so they look like a page out of an old manuscript if you like. I like that style - like this guy: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1809982/
I'd like to start getting some slots filled now, I can't start until after next weekend and I do have Tafe three days a week, but for the four days I'm not there I'll be artin' like a mad bitch. So, fifty slots! Themes! (If you really don't like the themes but want in, don't worry. They're there more for inspiration and idea triggering than a strict thing anyways!)
Note me, or email me at fallimar[at]iinet.net.au :)
~~~
I'll open that up to any theme you like, aside from things I won't draw, though those aren't that numerous as I said before. I'll also open the commission types up - doesn't have to be a sketch, if you'd like something else, then just ask me and I'll quote you. I've got a visual price guide here if you'd like an idea of costs: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6506939/
So yes! And I'm hoping to make this a long-term thing - I'll keep going until I reach 50 eventually.

Digital portrait stuff
Posted 14 years agoI really, really enjoyed working on Brunalli's portrait. Really :D
IT's been a long time since I loved working on something so much and was as motivated to complete it, so I'd LOVE to do some more of these. I will have to increase the price - my initial idea was to do simple portraits, but when I got into it I couldn't leave it with a lesser level of detail so I just kept on adding until I was happy, around 10-12 hours work in total, maybe more. So, depending on character and detail level, I guess they'd be in the $40+ range from now on.
Still, I'm INSANELY happy with how it turned out, and I'd love to do some more. Reptilian characters would be a huge incentive for me, I adore doing scalework as it's weirdly... architectural? I dunno. Helps me fit together the different parts of a face. Very intuitive and cool :)
I'd also love to try my hand at a furred creature, anything really! Feathered even. Just to see how my new techniques and ideas could be translated into something more complex than my standard 'boring coloured linework picture'. Yay for stimulating my creativity. Great feeling :D
The portrait is here, by the way: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6592470/
Hope you like it as much as I do. Yeah, it's not perfect - I've got a long way to go - but it's my best work so far. Yay :)

Posted 14 years agoHeadshot/portrait digital painting experiment - two slots!
Posted 14 years agoI want to get back into the digital painting groove, but doing whole pictures with backgrounds and stuff is a bit daunting right now. So, why not take the most interesting and important part of a character and draw that? Head/bust character portraits seem like something I can tackle and actually complete within a reasonable time frame, so I'd like to see if anyone would like one. It'll be $20 each for the first experimental ones, and I'll only keep that price if they're easy and fun enough for me to want to do lots more. My digital paint work usually starts at $50, so it's pretty much a bargain :P
So... any takers?
So... any takers?
My memory. It sucketh greatly.
Posted 14 years agoSo much weird life stuff has happened to me in the last few years, a lot that I won't go into on here because it's either personal or boring, but basically I've had so little time for thinking about art and suits and furry stuff in general what with so many other things on my mind. My brain's a bit broken, I've got a huge chemical imbalance that basically has me feeling constant fear and every time something happens that's a little scary or makes me worry, the bottom drops out of my stomach and I panic. Yay! Fun life, me :P
Eh, most of the time it's not so bad, but it does tend to mean that my brain likes to unconsciously forget things that are nagging at me and making me feel bad. So... basically, if I've forgotten you somehow, then PLEASE do tell me! I'm sure I still owe people stuff from years ago, and even if I'm not able to complete stuff as I said I might before due to lack of materials/confidence/time or whatever, I'll either offer refunds if money was involved, or work something out if there wasn't. Gargh.
After so long being away and so much going on it's really hard to keep my brain working. o..0

Cheap arts! Also suit stuff
Posted 14 years agoSo! I've finished my queue (of two. yay!) and I'm free. FREE! Looks like I'll have a lot of spare time on my hands for the coming months too, so if there's anyone in the market for some Falli artwork then now's a good time to get it :)
As I said in my previous journal, I'll be doing cheap stuff for a bit to get my artistic groove on and go from there.
In addition, I've decided to see if I can finish off some fursuit stuff I've had lying around for far too long - Right now I'm working on a dolphin headframe that's been looking creepily at me for way too long. It looks surprisingly cute now it's got some fur on. I'll be making it into a partial, so look for it on this account soonish :)

Sketches and stuff. Apparently I -am- back!
Posted 14 years agoI've got two pieces to finish for a couple of lovely locals, but after those I'm free to do some more artwork. I've really enjoyed working on art again, so I'm looking to do some more. In the spirit of keeping things fun, I'd like to do some easy stuff for cheap - sketches and icons, or simple flat-shaded pics like the wombat I posted recently. Busts/heads of characters or stuff like that would also be awesome to do.
I'll quote you prices for most stuff, but for right now (until I feel I've got too much work on... haha! yeah right!) Sketches will be $5, Simple icons and flat shaded pics $10, though if you ask for something complex or with more characters I'll quote ya. Extra kudos for simple and cute!
If you'd like something, just send me a note or email, I'll get back to you ASAP. :)

do I exist? I think so... yes. probably yes.
Posted 14 years agoOMG this place still exists! Geez.
I've done so little artwork of late after the whole... getting married, being married, making medieval stuff... thing, but I've been missing it.
I'll try to upload some stuff here once I've done some sketchings. Maybe medieval themed, maybe just random furry. I dunno, ideas welcome :)

bear with me a little
Posted 14 years agoJust a heads-up to people I'm doing art for right now - I've come down with some annoying thing that's basically got me staying in bed all day. No strength, can't eat. I'll be taking a little longer than usual on art is all, nothing to worry about. Thanks.
Ever wondered? Non-anthro conversions
Posted 14 years agoSo, ever wondered what your character would look like as a non-anthro, or just a bit less anthropomorphised?
Or on the flipsode, ever wondered what your non-anthro character would look like anthropomorphised?
I'd love to try my hand at doing a few conversions, as it were. I'll keep the pay-what-you-want idea going, but if you'd prefer me to just quote you for a piece, I'm happy to do that too. Comment or note :)
EDIT: hee... anthro- actually means human. I'm talking about more animally pics rather than human ones, but I can try human ones as well! Why not go totally both ways :p

Pay-what-you-want commissions!
Posted 15 years agoInspired by
beezle, I am opening for pay-what-you-want commissions. They work thusly - you tell me how much you'll pay me, give me a character and/or idea to draw, and I go for it. Anything from a couple of dollars up to whatever you like - I'll do as much work as I feel is warranted for the price. No, I won't just do a simple sketch if you give me a twenty, don't worry about that... but if you ask for a seven character orgy and pay $20 you're a lot less likely to get colour and detail than if you ask for a single character portrait :P
Still, I do do some things like paintsketches for cheap, so if you really want something in colour or detail or whatever, just ask me. Otherwise, comment or note me with what amount you'd like to pay and I'll jot you down for a spot. I'll start your commission once I've received payment (half upfront half on completion for amounts over $30 if it gets anywhere near that!) and go through the queue if there is one.
tl;dr version: pay money, get art, you choose the price.
Woo!

HALP. Need art mojo. :|
Posted 15 years agoUgh. So I'm back here and suddenly I've come over all poopy and unable to think of anything I want to draw. If I were poetically inclined I'd say my muse was having an affair with another consciousness, but I'm just plain, cynical old me so I'll say I'm just boring.
So uh... anyone have any ideas? I really can't start taking any unpaid stuff as I'm still jobless (and a student now, so feel slightly less bad about it, yayness) but I do need ideas. How about a really cheap commish run? The simpler the commish, the easier. Or do what Beezle's doing right now and do 'pay what you want' commissions... If that's what people like I'll go that route.
I'm still open for the usual stuff, basically anything, so... yeah. Ugh.
Halp! :P

Things! Commissions! Drawing stuffs!
Posted 15 years agoOh jeez, it's been ages since I was here properly. I check in now and then to see if there's any awesome art, but my actual life's been so busy with learning to chef and being a married thing that it's been a bit difficult to be my usual online self. Not that I'm that much of an online entity anymore, I've reverted to being more of an old-school geek girl.
That said, I'm still here and still available for the odd commission if anyone wants something from me. I'd prefer to keep it relatively simple, but in all seriousness you're free to contact me about commission stuff any time. Note me if you want my email, I don't do any business over FA or IM (security reasons and general uneasiness y'know) but my email works, so yay.
Really, I'd just like to draw more, and I need some ideas to get my mojo going. Also, as always, need cash. If the two happen at once, the better it is :P

Starting the I-Ron Arteest! Lots of spots to fill!
Posted 15 years agoSo yus, starting now. Lots of spots to fill, I've only got 8 spots taken for now, so 42 to go! Tell your friends - anyone wanting a sketch done relating to my themes (or not!) then get them over here, they're cheap! :D
Also, the whole... help me get my artistic groove back and learn a bit too, eh? :)
For a reminder, the sketches are $5 US each and the themes are:
1: combat
2: evil
3: changing/modifying
4: bondage
5: overwhelming joy/bliss/freedom
Be creative with 'em, or give me something entirely different to work with!
