Game Development, WOWSERS! (Mega Man Maker v0.0.2)
General | Posted 9 years agoHooray for long-winded progress, I suppose. This is a little project that I started some months ago that I don't think I'll be finishing any time soon: Mega Man Maker. It's exactly what it sounds like - a Mega Man sandbox in which to create levels with blocks from the first six NES titles, and share your levels with others. So far, work has been put in making the Mega Man movement match the original, and I think I've done a spot-on job of it thus far, so now I can show off a bit of a demo before going back into hibernation and working on a bunch more!

I have bunch more to work on in the future, so I'll be updating as much as I feel necessary on my Twitter, https://www.twitter.com/GDFauxtrot . Come on by over on Twitter, tell me how much you like/hate it! I'm all ears on this project, especially now since it's in its early stages of development.

I am bad at this "keeping up" business, I swear...
General | Posted 9 years agoObligatory "I am not dead" statement here.
Now with that out of the way, in case anyone is even remotely interested, a few things:
1) It has been FOREVER since I have visited FA, and I have always been meaning to hop on and see what's new, but I just never got around to it, which sucks - I really like this community, honest. I would love to be more involved, but I have never been too good at that.
2) I think I can commit myself to hanging out here more - I sense a void staring to open amongst the bombastic changes that I have gone through over the past year or so, including college and work. I am not sure what this void is, but I can definitely feel it - a sense of something missing, like the puzzle is missing a few jigsaws. I think meeting new friends and finding my place in this community would be a great way to fill this void, but hey, only time will tell.
3) A previous journal was my "alpha" build for a joke game. Yeah, that ain't happenin'. Either I make interesting games or I don't. I don't want to limit my creativity to mediocrity masquerading as "satire." Instead, I have a more intriguing development in the works, and once I get my laptop back from the shop (rip lappy), I would very much like to develop it at least to the point of a "proof of concept build." So that's cool!
Oh, and real quick: this may not work out even though I have always wanted to, but I am going to try to keep consistently drawing more. My idea is to set up a schedule to keep me going, which has worked for me in the past on other things. How exciting!

Working on a new project!
General | Posted 10 years agoI will be working on a little Unity game project for the next month or so. I want to make a survival horror parody, where the scares are done by furniture in a house. It's pretty much a comment on how bad other Unity games are when trying to be a Slender clone (which is also a bad idea). I want to also make up a poorly-done "backstory" and leave the pieces of the story around the house. The goal of this project is to pretty much make the player laugh while still trying to look like a survival horror game, which will be done with the furniture and scripted "jumpscare" events around the house.
Because licensing/buying models is a no-go for me, I will be creating all of the models myself. I actually have no previous modeling experience, so this is going to be very interesting. I will also be doing all of the programming, which is also something I have little experience of in Unity (I only have 2 years of Java on me). And, well, I'm not a texture artist nor a foley artist, so texture and sound assets will have to be something I dig for myself online. With those aspects combined, I feel like this project will be fun.

Try it out yourself (alpha 0.0.1, no real gameplay yet): https://www.dropbox.com/s/ox89hza3x.....pooky.zip?dl=1
Keep in mind that that huge blank cube is going to be a house. I just have to model it first. :P
(If anyone who reads this happens to be a modeler or programmer, any help would be very much appreciated. Both of those tasks take up a lot of time, and having other people help out with models and scripts would be a huge help.)

what
General | Posted 10 years agoWhat do I put here? Do I talk about my personal life? Do I whine about what sucks about life? Do I attempt to find the meaning of life? Meh, forget all that. I guess I could just describe myself or something, I don't think I'll be changing this journal anytime soon.
Well uh, hello there. My name is Greg, but it would be a lot easier to call me by the name I completely made up for the sake of being at least vaguely interesting: Fauxtrot (fox-trot). I'm somewhat disappointed by FA not giving "Programmer" or "Gamer" as an artist type, so I'll say it right here. I have a strong interest in programming as a career, more specifically game designing. I am looking forward to starting this adventure in September, when college kicks into gear. When I'm not programming, I'm typically working on a myriad of many other things, including video editing, audio editing, writing, drawing... just a lot of stuff, and they're all so much fun (at least until the work gets tedious). I am a very busy person, often sacrificing whole nights' worth of sleep to my hobbies and schoolwork. Life's pretty rough right now, but I'm hoping my work pays off and I can relax soon.
FA has been a way for me to relax and just cool down and stare at cool stuff other people have made, but I am hoping I can meet someone on here whom I can contact and just connect with (someone teach me how to RP dammit, I'm too shy to initiate any of that stuff). I think the FA community is an awesome place, and I've been too shy to break into it any say hello. Perhaps soon if start feeling confident in my drawing abilities, or I make something I feel is totally worth sharing, I will do so here. But for now, I think I've spent way too much time updating my profile since I last signed in months ago, I have work to do. Bai. c:

Setting up shop...
General | Posted 11 years agoI've been wanting to make an FA account for so very long, but some issue with account registration has been effectively shutting me down in that regard. However, now with a new drawing tablet on the way and the registration fixed, I may soon start posting content and, hopefully, open art commissions! I also write, so sometime in the future I may begin writing for FA. Cheers!
